at a certain point i think we need to acknowledge that art is very rarely created accidentally. if you can see a theme in a work than that theme was, more likely than not, at least somewhat intentional on behalf of the creator. you don't put a piece of yourself out into the world without thinking about what it means at least a little bit.

#sigh. sorry got a comment like 'nintendo creates these accidentally heartbreaking scenarios and then fans add depth' and i just. #do you really think that not a single professional adult writer on the oot writing team thought about the implications of the scenario they #were writing. do you think that all of the ways in which the world is set up to reinforce the themes brought up by that scenario are also #accidental. do you think writing is just throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks without any more complex thought. #do you truly genuinely think that in a game so constrained by storage & software limitations ANYTHING about that story would be accidental #it just seems like such a sad and reductive way to view art. it's like you can't imagine that anything is done in earnest. #that people might really care about the things they create. that they might be truly meaningful. #the mcuification of story analysis. we just assume that nothing has substance anymore ig. our brains are so flooded with consumerist #garbage that we assume all art is made purely for consumption and profit. ok #WHATEVER. sorry. i have this disease where im obsessed with video games as art and i hate that no one sees it like i do #personal

let's say. denki is a decently popular streamer.

not huge or world-famous or anything, but he has a decent fan base, is able to make a living off what he does, maybe has a teeny bit of merch out there. and he plays a lot of multi-player games, always with his same team: RedRi0t, pinky-alien-queen, cellophane, and dynamight!

sero, mina, and kiri will occasionally have face-cams, not always, but bakugou ? never. doesn't do it. the other three have channels they will upload to if the stream goes well, but dynamight! does not exist outside of charge_bolt's channel, not something he's interested in, doesn't want an online presence, but he still enjoys playing with his pals ! the mystery of him makes him a little more targetable, especially when denki takes the time to make hilarious compilations like dynamight! yelling at me for 7 minutes.

you like charge_bolt just fine, will watch him every now and then on a weekend when you are home alone with nothing better to do. it's funny to watch him scream and run from dynamight! in dead by daylight. of course, you're a little curious, too, who the guy behind the voice is, even do a google search that confirms very little is known about him on the internet. no name, no picture, no age. just a voice.

charge_bolt has a patreon, and the first tier gives you access to his discord. it's not much, so you subscribe and are thrust into a very full server, one that has notifications going off every minute, is a little intimidating, but charge_bolt interacts often, has everyone in his lil group as mods, so you stay. you don't have access to the private streams, since that's a higher tier, but you can still see all the channels. they go so fast that any comment you make is typically eaten away, but, one day, a new upload hits—another compilation of dynamight! absolutely wrecking him—and you send a message fairly early on. something like sparky i don't think you'll ever get the upper hand on dynamight! at this rate and—the man himself replies.

you're goddamn right: simple, nothing special, but you react with a 😂 and a 💕 anyway. and then it seems like—he doesn't interact too often, but sometimes you can catch him right after something has been uploaded, like he's checking the reaction, and he always responds to you. first in the #just-dropped channel and then elsewhere. nothing too substantial, simple replies or just 👍🏻 reactions, but still. you feel a little charmed by it. find yourself watching just to hear his voice, the few in which he laughs loud and victorious and mean, the very little he reveals about himself.

and one day you send a message in the stream, a little woo go dynamight 💗✨️ and it's not ten minutes before you have a friend request on discord.

Quodo Mini-fest IV announcement

Coming soon (in January)… Every year, I run a low-pressure Quodo fanwork exchange in Jan/Feb. It's basically just an excuse to have a little explosion of Quodo fanwork goodness coiniciding with Valentine's Day. Sign-ups open January 1st 2024 on AO3 (I might open sign-ups earlier if people prefer that). But I just wanted to give people a heads up and get the word out! If you would like to participate, you will need an AO3 account.

Also, I just want to make a note about the fanwork minimums for this event. The last couple of years, I feel like the works for this fest have not been particularly "mini" (which is perfectly fine -- I love the effort!). However, I do want to remind people that the following are perfectly acceptable gifts for the purposes of this exchange: a 100-word drabble; a sketch/doodle; several icons or a single gif; a fanvid of any length. We're open to a lot of media and to a lot of different effort and skill levels. (No AI-generated works, though.)

If we end up with as many longer gifts this year as we got last year, I will likely stagger reveals over several days (rather than release everything on February 14th as I have done in the past) to give people time to browse the whole collection. Anyway, that's all I wanted to say. Please reblog/signal boost! 😊

wow i am now attempting to edit the crosswords i wrote a week and a half ago and tested last week and they are. bad. i've already completely refilled one of them, refilled about half of another, and at the top of a third i had just written "too hard + boring" so will likely need to refill much of that one too. and when i'm done refilling i will still have to write new clues...i was not on my game in late february apparently! at least the rewriting process has been going okay. i'm so much more efficient at this than i used to be, which means i can be a lot pickier about quality now. so that's a good feeling, though obviously i would prefer to just...do better from the outset lol.

#i haven't been inspired to care about the quality lately but then i gave one of my themed puzzles to two of my friends #and they gave me feedback on the clues and i was like oh right. those matter #in good news though i think my meticulous database maintenance practice is paying off #because now when i refill i usually do get a lot of options from the software and i rarely have to do it by hand #which saves A LOT of time #inch by inch i am making this fucking garden grow goddammit #if you think about it i've only had this database for what. less than four years? and then all of my changes were overwritten #a year or so in. so my current wordlist is the result of only a little over two years of active work #just imagine how good it's going to be after two more years!! #cruciverbs #i came on here to write this purely as a way to encourage myself because it's such a bummer that these puzzles suck so bad lol #back to the grind

We dont toss em out as we age (generally) he's got a typical office job that pays decently well, has his routine and friends both old and new and coworkers who he hates (relatable). And one day maybe you're playing a scary game just for the hell of it set up a stream bc maybe it wont be as spooky with a chat but u got like one viewer 😂😭 and u know discord integrates with twitch so mr.
