LIKE-! chat omg this is truly just routine for them,,,, Like out of the 3 siblings, Freminet always gave off the biggest child assassin vibe, but wow. To see that routine and desensitized nature of the HotH's line of work just,, splayed out in a Character Trailer is . wow. and the look in his eyes as he says it is- wow.

YEAH UHH BLOODSTAIN ON HER FACE??/ The lighting in this scene now is evidently less saturated. And it's just- oh my FUCKING GOD it does so many things:

the blood on Arle's face looks... dry. it doesn't look as fresh as you may expect which could mean many things. It could mean she spent,,, hella long in there with that guy doing what needed to be done. It could mean she took care to something else immediately after dealing with the guy (perhaps smth related to the children Snezhevna wanted to save). But regardless it means she didn't put in the effort to clean her face and hide what happened. OBVIOUSLY !!! that is so . obviously her style but to S E E IT IN MY GENSHIN IMPACT CHARACTER TRAILER it's- oh my god

it serves to highlight the really, truly, bleak nature of the scene now that we know plain and simple Arlecchino just killed a man. There's no subtext, there's no reading between the lines. The only thing that didn't happen is that we didn't see contact nor see a body. But, no sugarcoating, Arlecchino killed a man. No one is hiding it. You are not surprised. No one should be but damn.

and ofc it acts as a representation of Snezhevna dying...

because it seems like the saturation is back once the camera switches to looking at Snezhevna laying in bed.

And is it me, or does it look like Arle's allowing herself to actually display a tinge of worry in her expression this time? And also, EVER so slightly in her tone as well. You can feel it, it's gentler.

OKAY. so bear with me. I haven't actually read any of the sibling's character stories yet, so there could be a LOT of info I'm missing but:

There's still a pretty thought-provoking conversation going on (in MY mind, at least) about just how intensely these children are being trailed to be soldiers for the Fatui. They're obviously in an environment that indoctrinates them into being soldiers of SOME kind, but I still don't know what kind of soldier that's supposed to be. Are they all ALWAYS extensions of the Fatui? Or are they more-so extensions of Arlecchino specifically..? Snezhevna was obviously trying to help those children she came across, and I'm assuming that happened on her latest mission, so was the mission for a charitable cause?? What was her next mission supposed to be?? Same line of work? Saving people? Or would it switch up and was she going to be sent to "take care of" (kill .) someone???

So I don't know whether to interpret that line as a hint of them being overworked and 1) feeling like they need to continue their work out of pure fear that they'll be deemed ineffective and useless... or 2) feeling like they need to continue their work out of a sense of loyalty and duty to the place that took them in and raised them. Or both..

and ofc the funeral scene. I can't say much more than what's already shown right on the screen.

Wanna watch me ramble about Frank and Eddie's Parenting for Much Too Long? No? Too bad here it is anyway!

I see a lot of interpretations of Frank and Eddie as parents where Eddie is the more lenient parent while Frank is more strict. But what if it was the other way around?

Update: ok. this just turned into me talking about their flaws as parents,, oh well that's cool to think about to

Frank's "not afraid to get dirty" attitude could lend itself to him being a parent who would let his kid go about and explore (with appropriate supervision and reasonable curfew of course) and overall have more faith in them to not get in too much trouble. Curfew to him is an agreed upon time between him and the teen, so about 10-11pm, maybe 12am if they're old enough and it's not a school night. He's far less likely to ground or take away privileges if they get into trouble (unless it's school but I'll get to that), usually turning it into a learning opportunity. Maybe restricting curfew if necessary.

Eddie on the other hand, has some worry wort tendencies and would be Terrified of his babies going out on their own, even if they're supervised by a friend's parent. His idea of a weekend curfew is 7-8pm and he needs a phone call or text every hour. or maybe every half hour. And when they do get into trouble he is the first to lecture them. He's more likely to want to ground or take privileges entirely, not just change curfew. Eddie's fine with after school stuff because knows a Teacher will be there and it's a school program/function. Though field trips and prom still make him a nervous wreck.

Frank hardly gets to lecture the kid(s) because Eddie gets to it first. the only time he does is when Eddie gets Too Upset or overwhelmed and Frank's worried he'll start yelling at them.

Though Frank's not without flaw either. Frank is more concerned with grades than Eddie is. He's more likely to pressure them By Accident and bring up college a lot when they're older. Eddie on the other hand never went to college, and knowing the American school system, he probably had more 'C's than 'A's despite how smart he really is. So Eddie is less concerned with perfect grades and believes if the kid doesn't want to go to college they shouldn't be pressured into it.

I won't go too in depth but I don't think Frank did many extracurriculars in high school. Meanwhile Eddie was getting into all sorts of activities. So when their child's grades have been slipping, Frank is the one to bring up taking them out of their extracurriculars "so they can focus on their grades." To which Eddie responds with a very firm No because he knows how much extracurriculars can mean to a kid.

Frank is also more strict with chores and such. Their room needs to be clean before they go anywhere, they make their bed every day, etc. Eddie is on board, but he understands Organized Chaos and that sometimes it takes a few extra minutes to get up and start a chore. (ADHD and Depression let's go babyy) Though he is stern about getting them done by a certain time (like before dinner). Frank would rather it be done sooner/when told.

In conclusion, Frank doesn't mean to pressure them so much, and Eddie doesn't mean to be so overbearing. They're great parents, but no one is perfect. I think they'd learn and grow overtime especially with each other to bounce off of and rely on. So in the end they turn out to be great parents whose kid(s) call and visit regularly when they're adults.

11. What craft would you like to learn?

Every once in a while the urge to learn to weave compels me to look again at how much a small rigid heddle loom costs… then the cost drives me to look at instructions for how to build an inkle loom and then I realize even if I could build it, (or more likely convince my brother to,) I wouldn’t be as interested in the straps I could make on the inkle loom as the wider area on the rigid heddle… and then I realize that I don’t really know any more what I would do with that wider woven area… and then I decide all over again that I need to get better at sewing before I can even think of learning to weave.

12. What craft do you consider yourself already skilled in?

Well, once I was looking at a general craft magazine, and there was a model holding a garland and she was wearing a gorgeous knitted cardigan with cables. I was disappointed to see that the pattern in the magazine was for the garland and not the sweater, but just from the picture I recognized that the stitch patterns used were similar to ones I had, and so I modified those stitch patterns to match the sweater more closely and made my own. And that’s how I got my favorite sweater. Mom shakes her head over my patternless ways (as though she doesn’t do the same things with socks). So I would say knitting.

interesting... not sure how to quite answer this. honestly? i think it's how people get caught up in drama and frequently forget that most people here just want to write some fun stuff and move on with their lives. i'm not interested in the bullshit & if someone doesn't like me or someone else, that's perfectly fine. i'm of the opinion that we are all adults -- we all have jobs, people that we don't mesh well with, people that we do enjoy the company of. we know how to behave irl. i think this attitude should extend online. people need to mind their business and unfortunately sometimes don't. that's my hot take

unfortunately for my yuletide recipient, their otherwise totally appealing letter was primarily prompting based on one of the installments of our shared canon that i find by far the most saccharine and irritating and that i think embodies everything that is self-satisfiedly wrong with it. but since i looked at it only once back when it first came out i was like "well it can't be that bad" and went back to it today as canon review to see if i could write about it after all

with the result that now instead of the cute canon-compliant shipfic my recipient obviously wants, i have the first 1k of a technically canon-compliant fic, in which the desired characters are in a romantic relationship that is portrayed positively and features significantly onscreen. but which is actually mainly about forcing one of the characters to confront the intrinsic nightmarish horror of the setting while his uncomprehending life partners, irretrievably embedded in the horror, try and fail to understand what's happened to him. idk, maybe this event provides the impetus for the last remaining leg of their triangle to get together? maybe i can end it optimistically by making it possible to completely escape the universe in which the narrative is set, have the protagonists all happen to not choose to do that because they're just not that freaked out by the whole thing, and then..... frame that as a canon-typical happy ending and hope my recip doesn't notice
