arya ii

this is only her second chapter and arya feels like her world has been blown up “she'd felt safe around them, but now she knew that was a lie" her sense of safety and the ideals she holds dear are already being challenged. as arya is sitting there whispering “he was my friend” to herself i wondered how does she (or anyone) possibly live with this injustice? a child was murdered and everybody is party planning. its crazy!!!!! 

her entire life arya has been able to play with no fear or restriction. theres so much wank about arya not “respecting the class boundary” and every time i think to myself “what class boundary???” at no point in her nine years has anyone ever told arya she cant play with someone bc they’re too lowborn. she played with maidservants and stableboys and kitchen staff. ned invited the smallfolk to his table and valued their words. his opinion doesnt change after the trident either. ned holds her as she sobs. he tells her to “grieve for your friend” he does not reprimand her for befriending him in the fist place.

he tries to alleviate arya’s guilt too. she hates and blames herself for what happened. that is devastating. but ned tells her to never blame herself. and she needs to hear that bc arya is taking on the brunt of this trauma. she is sparing herself no pain. from the horrible fact that mycah was murdered, to realization that nobody spoke up for him, to being iced out by her sister, to losing nymeria, to feeling utterly alone. 

ned also confides in arya the danger that surrounds them. he tells arya the time for childish games is over. she has to start growing up. arya vows to do so while thinking she’s never loved him so much. which i do think contradicts the way the fandom frequently interprets her - almost like she’s “willful” out of spite rather than she’s just trying to find her place in this world without having to sacrifice her humanity

in his previous chap jon dreams that his mother is beautiful. here arya says lyanna was beautiful and thinks "everybody said so" again not even a hint that she was  "unconventionally attractive" whatever that means

arya and ned share the same view (”the stark view”) of tourneys. they want nothing to do with it. ned is horrified by the crowns spending while deeply in debt. arya is horrified by the cruel royal family and those her serve them. the northerners in general are practical people who prioritize preparing for winter rather than playing at war. boop!

1. Are you named after anyone?

Yes! I'm named after some family member, my great great grandmother I think? My full name is Catherine

2. When was the last time you cried?

The other night, I kept crying on and off but I've been with people almost constantly so it's hard. I still feel somewhat homesick but it's getting better 👍

3. Do you have kids?

Nope, and not interested

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Practically constantly, I absolutely love it. My family is extremely sarcastic and so I do it with them all the time, and it's impossible for that to not bleed into my conversations with other people

5. What sports do you play/have played?

None right now. I think I played soccer as a kid? And I don't know if it technically counts but I was in marching band during high school which was a lot of fun but also a lot of work.

6. What's the first thing you notice about other people?

This is probably weird but I'm super interested in how conversations work, and I can't help but notice whether people take a leading role or following role in conversation, if that makes sense? Like people who are content to listen vs. people who want to lead the conversation

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings probably? Imo most horror movies don't end well, and I mean about the quality. Like yeah you'll find it scary and them inevitably, something silly will happen that just ruins any sense of fear you had

8. Any special talents?

Hard to say, I can't really think of any atm. I think I'm pretty good at guessing what animals are which?

9. Where were you born?

Not gonna go into specifics 🤭 but honestly I've never moved and I live probably like 20 minutes or so from the hospital I was born in. You guys can probably guess by now which country I'm from lol

10. What are your hobbies?

F1 first and foremost(watching, downloading pics, gifing, studying lol), reading fanfic, drawing(but not so much lately, perpetually burnt-out), photography(I've taken so many pictures in the past 2 days)

11. Do you have any pets?

Yes! I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. My cats are two tabby boys named Jin(or Jinnie) and Frank(originally Francis.) And my dogs are named Maisie and Ruby. Omg tho about Maisie. My mom named her after this book detective named Maisie Dobbs, right? So when we were making the dogtag, we put "Maisie Doggs", it still makes me laugh whenever I think about it.

12. How tall are you?

Around 5'4, and I'm sorry, but I don't know the metric equivalent 😭

13. Fav subject in school?

Why did my mind first go back to highschool??? But I guess I'd say my Russian class. I like my other classes but Russian is probably the most fun because it's very laid back and everyone in the class now knows each other pretty well! We were all making sure we could stick together for next semester, to the point of changing out schedules 😭

14. Dream job?

Not sure honestly. It's hard because I have ideas for like actual legitimate jobs that I'm working towards, but sometimes can't help but be like: "ah but what if I were a photographer? What if I were a race car driver? etc" But realistically, probably something in the government

15. Eye color?

Brown, not super dark but not really light either

This world is shit. I think everyone can agree with me. With the new law bills being put it feels like we are falling backwards. So I would like to say. Its okay if this is overwhelming. Take a break if you need to. Distract yourself about anything other than this. You are not alone. Its okay if you cant protest for any reason. Or you have no clue on how to help. Especially if you are in a unsafe area. Just show your support on social media if you can. it may not be good right now but if we look back on history, we can learn that this can end. It will take awhile but that's okay. Lets make the people who fought for this discrimination to end proud by showing the world we wont give up because of them.

You guys rlly don't realise how much knowledge is still not committed to the internet. I find books all the time with stuff that is impossible to find through a search engine- most people do not put their magnum opus research online for free and the more niche a skill is the less likely you are to have people who will leak those books online. (Nevermind all the books written prior to the internet that have knowledge that is not considered "relevant" enough to digitise).

Whenever people say that we r growing up with all the world's knowledge at our fingertips...it's not necessarily true. Is the amount of knowledge online potentially infinite? Yes. Is it all knowledge? No. You will be surprised at the niche things you can discover at a local archive or library.
