1. 1. Hii, if it isn't too much hassle and if you're still taking asks, i have a question about a fic i think has been deleted? I'm not sure.

A) It goes like this : Nie Huisang goes back in time, and he gets his brother to bring a young, severely malnourished Wei Ying and is trying to keep him from being sent to Yunmeng ( he kept intercepting his brother's letters to Yunmeng to let them know about Wei Ying). And he has this idea that if he gets Wei ying to believe he is an ugly child (malnourished ++) and that everybody will love him for him and not his skills.

I had it in my bookmarks but i think it was recently deleted? If you have any idea please lmk 🙏 i've lost too many fics this way.

B) There is another fic that's been deleted? a while ago. Wei ying had to wear a mask and was told to never reveal his face. He was married to Lan zhan in an arranged marriage but then Lan Zhan was supposedly forced to marry Wen Qing? Wei ying ended up adopting A-yuan and his twin brother.

Idk if i remember correctly (if it's the same fic) but the last chapter i read Wei Ying had to be forced through a sort of cleansing from demonic cultivation and he basically almost died bleeding ( he told lan zhan he was the one he trusted to do it). I think in the chapter count only one or two chapters were left till the end of the fic.

3. Firstly I have to say that I love this blog! It's keeping my To Be Read pile very well stocked! 😁

Secondly, there is a fic I found on AO3 around a year ago and no matter what tags I try I just can't find it!

What I remember is that it is modern with cultivation, married WangXian, and that it's the beginning of an apocalypse where loads of people have been turned into puppets. It was supposed to be blamed on WWX but, coincidentally, he falls ill just before the start and couldn't possibly have done it.

Iirc the apocalypse lasts for about a week and turns out to have been caused by something contaminating the water supply with JGS and/or JGY behind it.

20. Hello again! I've been trying to find two fics for weeks and just can't seem to find them. A) One was an arranged marriage between lan zhan and wei ying that was set up by the jins; wei ying was never part of the jiang and he had some funky death stuff going on in the burial mounds, and took in the wens. The jin made both the wens and the Lans think the other was going to attack and that's why they did the marriage. B) The other fic has wei ying and lan zhan getting together but keeping it secret; I don't remember much, just that in trying to save the wens, jiang change tries to marry wen Qing and madam yu gets pissed off and says that since it was wei yings idea, he should marry her. Wei ying is later crying to lan zhan because both of them know it's the only option they have to save them, so he'll do it. Lan xichen comes across them and realizes they're in a relationship, and decides to marry wen qing himself to fix it - later lan zhan and wei ying reveal their relationship. Annual Favorite Supernatural Fic Rec List of 2023:

I bookmarked 66 fics in 2023 (and read…a lot more than that), but only 9 were written/updated in this year of our lord. SMH we gotta pump out more content, friends. Seriously though, I’ve got several more 2023 fic reads in my Marked for Later, but some are still WIPs or I just haven’t gotten around to picking them up yet. I’m sure some (like the much-hyped Lighthouse Keeper AU where there is darkness by the talented quiettewandering [@wanderingcas on tumblr]) will end up on my Bookmarked favs…but, alas, they’ll just have to wait for the 2024 recap.

Partial Summary:

A canon rewrite AU diverging from the events of Some Cruel Tide, in which a shifter disguised as his father used Dean's blind obedience to molest him. By the start of S1, Dean's relationship with his father is more strained, his devotion more intense, and his life consumed by the need to hide the parts of himself he is most ashamed of.

My words:

If you’ve been looking for a gay!Dean manifesto, you’ve found it. Obviously, the subject matter is dark: warnings for past childhood sexual abuse, internal and external homophobia, past suicide attempt, and traumatic outing. It is also beautiful and heart-wrenching and scratches the swollen, itchy, weeping rash on my heart in a way that only the balm of good Dean angst can.  

Favorite part:

“I wasn’t acting out,” he blurted.

“What?”

“When I – I wasn’t trying to act out or anything.” Deacon’s presence hovered behind him like an aura, and Dean reminded himself, Don’t rock the boat. Don’t rock the boat.

Dad sighed. The line crackled, and Dean pictured him standing in a phone booth somewhere, probably huddled up against the cold. “Then what the hell would you call it?”

Dean tried out a few words in his head, imagining how they’d sound to Deacon. He ended up with, “I misunderstood. I thought I was supposed to.”

The way Dean’s PTSD is described in this fic, like a slow, oozing poison that awakens the longer he and Cas travel together, is tantalizing and masterful. Ostensibly, this fic is about Dean and Cas road-tripping to a case. It’s actually about how you, a monster-hunter, can come to terms (or not) with your body and soul when you think you’ve become the very thing you’re spent your whole life hunting.

 Favorite part:

"Like everything will be going fine and then all of a sudden I just. Can’t. I can't stand it. And the more fine everything is, the worse it gets and I feel-" he breaks off, eyes on his hands like they aren't his hands, thumb rubbing over and over the ring on his index finger, "It's like everyone else is living this normal fucking life and I'm still back in the pit."

Personal Space: The Final Frontier by botley

Partial summary

"Captain's Log, Stardate 10918.8. Captain Ellen Harvelle reporting, First Officer… Castiel… attending. After a month of bargaining with the Gehennian government, efforts to permit a search party within the Rack facilities still proved unsuccessful. Although Starfleet’s orders dictated we tuck tail and leave, I elected to disregard this decision and beam a rescue operations team down for the recovery of Lieutenant Commander Dean Winchester.”

My words:

This fic has been on my rec lists before. It’s still a WIP, but it very unexpectedly posted an update after a 3(?) year hiatus, so I’ll cling to hope until my fingernails leave a bloody, mauled mess.  This is basically a Star Trek AU where our favorite Supernatural gang are fucking around in Starfleet instead of the Midwest. Fantastic stuff – worth the read even if it does remain unfinished.

Favorite line:

"Dean made a face. Castiel decided the man was hideous."

Delicious, crunchy marshmallow goodness of some fantastic Dean!whump and panicked caretaker!Sam with the solid undercurrent of slightly sweetened amalgamized oat and corn cereal of a solid case fic. Yum.

After a series of run-ins between the pair, Dean and Cas develop a friendship that everyone else around them suspect more from immediately, though it takes them a little longer to get the memo. When Dean struggles with a particularly devastating patient loss, their mutual understanding of loss and love bring them closer in a way that neither of them could have expected.

My words: A solid, old-fashioned romantic AU. It’s unpretentious, fluffy, heart-warming, authentic and the kind of could-have-been-a-novel goodness that makes up the heart and breadth of fanfiction. Warning for infant illness and death (not Jack).

Favorite part:

"I know they say there’s a chance, but I’ve just got this feeling .” She shook her head and looked down for a moment. She looked up again and took a deep breath as if steadying herself. “I wish I could see you grow up.”

 My words: Another Goddamn quality AU. This one is a little quippier and fast paced than the Hospital AU above, but it’s full of fantastic characterization and even a last-minute breaking and entering romp. Fun that’s perfect for the whole family!

Favorite part:

“Been asking you out all week.” Dean tells him, and Castiel realizes all at once he’s right.

“Oh my god.” Castiel laughs. “You have.”

My words: You gotta love the Djinn dream trope. This one has everything you want in a caught-in-a-fake-reality-while-your-lover-pleads-for-you-to-return-to-the-waking-world story, plus an extra dash of on-point characterization and some truly imaginative scenarios for Dean’s alternate realities.  

 Favorite part:

“We could look into adoption,” says Cas. “If you’d like. Of course we could also simply take a child, but I think that’s frowned on."

My words: This is more straight-up (not straight) porn than I usual rec, but this is a fantastic take on the from-sex-to-love fic where everyone was already in love to begin with. There’s a hefty sprinkle of idiots-to-lovers and sex-curse. Also angst, which is my bread and butter.

Favorite line:

Castiel stares up at him, his eyes gone soft, hooded. Dean thumbs over his eyelid, just to watch it flutter shut. “I’m not solely interested in you for your hands, or your mouth. They are wonderful attributes, but I don’t long for them so much as I long for you.” He leans into Dean’s palm and kisses the center. “I don’t know when I fell in love with you, but it would take the death of the universe to get me to stop.”

My words: warning for the fact that this is technically an mpreg fic even though Castiel is an angel and not really a man. Warning, also, because this is another WIP that hasn’t been updated since the beginning of the year, so I don’t know if it’ll be finished. Basically, Dean and Cas bump uglies to unexpected results. Cas kinda freaks without telling Dean he’s his baby daddy. He also yanks out his intestines so said baby can be nice and comfortable in there. Funny and angsty.

Favorite part:

“Are those—?”

“Yeah.” He waves his hand at the door again, starting to feel like one of those used car lot inflatable men, limbs akimbo. “A total murderer looking guy just bolted that way. And not like— the regular murderer-looking people who come in.”

“And he left his organs.” Dennis thinks a moment, and then shrugs, as if this isn’t the weirdest thing he’s ever seen. He’s been working here longer than anyone Henry knows, maybe it isn’t. He opens his mouth and Henry can’t help hoping some miracle plan of action is going to fall out of it. “Can I ask you a personal question?”

“Um. What?”

“I don’t want to offend you.” He pauses, brows furrowed. He rolls Henry’s cup over in his hand. “What is a ‘FABINISTA’?”

Muriel struggles to understand the word "serendipity." As Aziraphale tries to explain it to them in concrete terms, he realizes that his first encounters with Crowley, as angels and then as angel and demon, are perfect examples.

"Aziraphale, may I ask you something?"

Aziraphale, sitting at his desk, turned to Muriel, and replied quietly, "I'm listening."

They were sitting in what had become a bit of their space, the alcove of one of the bookshop's windows, exposed to daylight most of the day. It was not uncommon to find them there, nose buried in a book.

Muriel swung their legs around to face Aziraphale and asked, showing the book they were holding, "I was reading something and the author is talking about serendipity. I can't quite figure out what that means. I don't even remember hearing that word up there."

Aziraphale chuckled slightly, "The Heavens? Talking about serendipity? Talking about the possibility of something good in the unexpected. Oh no, of course not they wouldn't."

The angel got up and walked over, then pulled a chair over, sat down next to Muriel and continued, "Serendipity is the faculty of of making fortunate accidental discoveries; an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident."

Muriel nodded and replied, "It's a bit like luck, then?"

Aziraphale thought for a moment before replying, "Almost, but not quite. Luck is the chance happening of fortunate or adverse events. Serendipity is an unexpected pleasant surprise. It's like searching for a book on a shelf and finding a long-lost letter used as a bookmark.”

Aziraphale paused for a moment and shook his head, "You don't have to look far for an example. Me and Crowley. Our encounters were a series of serendipities. It began when I was flying through a starless sky."

"Oi!"

Hearing this cry, Aziraphale changed the curve of his trajectory and headed toward the source of the call. He found himself face to face with another angel, and not quite sure if he was the source of the call, he asked, "Yes? Was that you?"

The other red-haired angel replied in a rather rapid stream, "Oh, hi, yeah. Err, look, if you don't mind, could you hold this, while I crank it all up?" 

"I stopped to help him, as I was just crossing the sky to go about my own business. If I had ignored his call, if I hadn't helped him, we might never have met. It would have been luck if I'd run into him while he was in my way, but here, he called and I chose to answer his call."

Muriel nodded thoughtfully and asked, "Why did you mention several serendipities?"

Aziraphale smiled gently and replied, "Because many of our first encounters were serendipitous. Our two sides sending us to the same places without our knowing it. Pure chance. Like that day in the Garden of Eden."

"Well, that went down like a lead balloon."

Aziraphale nodded mechanically out of politeness, then asked the demon who had just appeared, "I'm sorry, what was that?"

The demon repeated, "I said, that went down like a lead balloon. The angel replied, "Yes, yes, it did, rather."

Aziraphale smiled fondly as he recalled this encounter and Crowley's insistence on talking to him, then continued, "This time, it was Crowley, well, Crawley at the time, who chose to come to the wall to talk to me. We could have perfectly ignored each other, but by crawling up on that wall to talk to me, he made a serendipity of that chance that day."

Muriel replied, "If I understand you correctly, you really do consider your encounters to be happy"

Aziraphale nodded, "Although I would have absolutely denied it at the time. An angel meeting a demon was not a happy event. But each time one of us took a step toward the other, resulting in the happiness we have now. So yes there were serendipitous."

Muriel smiled and said quietly, "Thank you for your explanations, I think I really understand now." 

They scratched their head and continued, a little more hesitantly, "Can I say that finding Gabriel's matchbox was serendipity?"

Aziraphale replied, "What makes you think that?"

"Well, that day I had to do my usual work, alone at my desk, and on the way I found this box, which started the chain of events you know. And I end up here with you and Crowley, living an exciting life, where people know me and recognize me, where I'm learning to be someone."

Aziraphale took their hand and said gently, "You're absolutely right. Finding this matchbox is a perfect example of serendipity. But you know it's the same for us. Finding that box brought you to us, and meeting you as a result is a source of happiness for us as well.

Muriel exclaimed, "That's really great! I think that word is going to be my favorite!"

Aziraphale smiled fondly and replied, "Well, it's a beautiful word that evokes only positive things, so it's a good choice.

Muriel jumped out of the alcove they were in, then wrapped their arms around the angel and hugged him, murmuring, "Thank you."

Aziraphale, surprised, patted them gently on the back and said, "We're grateful to have you in our lives too, Muriel."

They straightened up and said, smiling a little cheekily, "Your serendipity is coming so I'll be off. They grabbed their book and their small backpack and headed for the door of the bookshop. Aziraphale followed them with amused eyes and saw that Crowley entered just as Muriel was leaving. 

The angel can't help but put his hand over his mouth to hide his laughter, for Muriel had thrown their arms around Crowley, hugging him as they had Aziraphale just before, and the demon's bewildered expression was absolutely hilarious.

He didn't have time to say anything because the angel had already left and Crowley entered the shop.

He approached Aziraphale and, after following Muriel with his eyes for a few seconds as they entered the cafe, asked the angel, still looking puzzled, "What's wrong with our little bee?"

Aziraphale told him about the conversation he'd just had with the other angel, and Crowley's expression softened as the story progressed.

When the angel had finished, he said softly, "So you think our encounters are serendipitous?"

Aziraphale lost a little of his smile and asked, "Why? You don't?"

Crowley shook his head, raised his hand and placed it on the angel's cheek before replying gently, "You ask me if I consider our encounter on the wall that made me get to know an angel like no other who went so far as to protect me, a demon, from the rain with his wing. An angel who didn't hesitate to lie to thwart God's will because he didn't want to see people suffer. An angel who trusted me enough to let me point a gun at him, even though I'd never held a gun in my life. An angel who is now a partner who loves me like I never expected to be loved. You're asking me if I think the events that brought us together were serendipitous? Of course I do, Angel."

He gently stroked the angel's cheek with his thumb and leaned in for a tender kiss.

When he pulled away, his tender expression became a little more playful as he added, "I have a prime example of serendipity. Imagine, on my way home today, I took a detour because of some work on the street above, a water pipe that had burst, and I passed the tearoom. They hired a new pastry chef who is French and now they have real French crepes on the menu. Isn't that the perfect example?

Aziraphale replied cheekily, "It'll only be a serendipity if you take me there."

Crowley chuckled softly, "I wouldn't have it any other way, Angel."

He held out his hand and added, " So?"

Aziraphale grasped the outstretched hand and replied, "Temptation, oops no, serendipity accomplished!"

Hand in hand, they left the bookshop laughing and made their way to the tearoom, followed by the eyes of a little bee who, as they watched them, thought that finding the matchbox had indeed been a happy accident. 

A serendipity.

hey kandi 💗✨ as you know, i am a huge fan of your fics and your art and your fic recs and everything else 🥹 but i can't make sense of how you manage to do it all.

how long did it take you to plan the whole year of fic recs, how long in advance do you decide on the actual fics for each day, and how do you balance this and writing? and did you sort of select all the fics already, or do you still read and add to your recs as you go?

You're so sweet, thank you so much for following along ❤ I started with the planning for these ficrecs sometime last October and have been slowly but surely adding to the sprawling spreadsheet that documents my decent into fanfic madness. I'd say I've probably got the posts up until June or July in my drafts and ready to be posted, but whenever I find a fic I love that I feel fits the theme, I still constantly change things around. To be fair though, a lot of these are fics and authors that I've had bookmarked for a really long time and always wanted to recommend, so I didn't need to go and search for at least half of them.

Still, as a result of this project I've read more fanfics in these past few months than I probably have in the two years previous, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I've found so many more fics and authors that I love, and sharing that love makes me incredibly happy. Of course, this somewhat cuts into the time I'd usually spend on writing, which is why I have been mostly recycling my tumblr ficlets on AO3 instead of writing anything new, but I'm having a great time, so it's a fair trade-off, I think 😉

The most fun though has been whenever someone tells me they've really enjoyed one of the fics I've recommended or that they've ended up finding a new author that they like. That makes me so happy, because I love each and every one of these fics, and I want them to get the love and attention they deserve. And also the realization that there is so much fic in this fandom that I can literally pick any trope I like and find at least 30 awesome fics to rec for that week is the fucking best. We are truly blessed in this fandom, and it's great to be reminded of that.

ATLA fics that read like Muffinlance's? I've made my way thru almost her whole catalogue, I adore them, and I CRAVE MORE.

So I'm almost 3 years out of the game in terms of keeping up with ATLA fic-writing fandom, but some suggestions:

Check the "inspired by" sections on muffinlance's fics. For example, here's the list for Salvage (it's quite long!). These might vary a lot in technique and tone, but they were all made by people who love the same stories we do

muffinlance's gifts on AO3 - This group will have a lot of overlap with the first one, b/c many people who write "inspired by" works also gift them to muffinlance, but it's worth knowing about, and I've found some fun stories searching through here!

muffinlance's bookmarks - These will be more varied in fandom (muffinlance reads in several fandoms) but she has GREAT taste. I've found a lot of fics I loved from her bookmarks -- in particular, snipers solve 99% of all problems changed my entire experience with online fandom

ml's #fic rec tag on tumblr -- probably a lot of overlap with the first three, but she also promos some tumblr-only authors there

Captainkirkk/aloneintherain is another fic reccer to check out, I might have heard about muffinlance from her recs actually. Her blog has an atla recs tag, a weekly fic roundup tag, and a general fic rec tag which includes recs people submit

You'll notice I've been suggeting methods to find fics rather than linking specific fics, because tbh I'm not really sure what "reads like muffinlance" at this point. She's a fantastic author with a pretty distinctive voice, and there's a lot more fantastic authors in this fandom but I'm not sure if they'll appeal to you for the same reasons muffinlance does. A lot of my favorites are the obvious popular ones (The Dragon-King's Temple by kryal, the first third of Embers by Vathara, Another Brother by AvacadoLove)... okay some fewer-hit-count faves that you might not have encountered: The Best Path by EudociaCovert, Imagine the Ocean (and sequels) by Damkianna, definitely not suspicious at all in the least by presumenothing, Sweat and Ginseng by Taliax. You could also check my bookmarks, I've got about 60 public ones

If you're okay with other fandoms, I recommend the authors metisket and polynya on AO3, their stories make me happy in a similar way to how muffinlance's make me happy :P

Hii i was wondering if you could help me finding a fic either if you knew this fic or maybe someone reading this does . is a coma buck fic but I belive it was posted a little bit before 6x10 like maybe days apart so is not canon compliant 100% it focused in buck's recovery in Eddie's house and what I can remember the most is that buck had some side effects including absences seizures and there was a scene in a house party where he got one and almost a drops a glass but Eddie caught it something like that any help is appreciated I was so sure I had this in my bookmarks but I can’t find it

He doesn’t remember the last thing Eddie had said to him before – Alright, cowboy, go get ‘em – or the hooking a carabiner into his harness or the smile Eddie gave him. Memory loss. Muscle spasms. Shortness of breath. They won’t know how this will affect him because not many people wake up from something like this. And it’s the not knowing that succeeds in making Eddie feel a little out of his mind, like he no longer has a solid place to stand.

Keep your theories, Eddie wants to say, pushing away everyone in a white coat that comes by to study Buck’s charts and gawk like they’re behind glass. I just want him back.

He was already interesting before your so-called miracle.

Recovery isn't linear. Eddie only tries to keep a grasp on everything he holds dear as he and Buck find that out the hard way.

I’ve got a question regarding ao3 and I’m not sure who to ask so I figured I’d start with you.

Do you know of anyway to sort bookmarks by word count? An extension maybe?

I bookmark any fic i even kinda enjoyed just so I don’t lose them and have everything in one place but I can’t figure out how to sort them by word count if that’s even possible. Any ideas?

The saddest news ever is that AO3 doesn't allow you to search the bookmarks by wordcount because the search system for those is different that the overall search system and would require to change it and well... This is AO3, it's a team of volunteers and things to change have a degree of importance. So yeah, maybe one day, but not today.

So! I looked for other options... And started to make a whole ass post before finding the best one right under my nose...

Best option: right in AO3, script required, ordered from bigger to smaller

The best option I could find is a modified version of the "AO3 Review + Last Chapter Shortcut + Kudos-sortable Bookmarks" script, which was a comment from 2019 and added a sort by word count option. To run the script you will need an extension like Tampermonkey, click on the pastebin link, copy the code, create a new script and paste it.

The original script add two clickable links right beside the title box allowing you to get to the last chapter right away and to download but also, if you go to the filter box, "Kudos" will be added in the dropdown list for "Sort by". The modified script, however, do not have that download button, but, it does add the option "Word Count" after "Kudos" in the "sort by" dropdown menu.

Once you've selected it and sorted by, it will display the work from bigger to smaller only. I unfortunately am not familiar with javascript so I can't modify anything, but I guess it's better than nothing.

I also do have to drop this post that links to a video which explains how to add plugins to firefox nightly on android because like that you can also have that option when you don't have your PC.

Option 1: right in AO3, nothing else required, no order

When you bookmark works, you can add tags and notes. When on your bookmarks tab, you can search for those. Which means that you can add tags for a number corresponding to the word count of the fic. (say, 1000-2000, 2000-3000, etc) which means that you can look for the right tag for the word count you want.

This also means that you cannot sort them from bigger to smaller (or the contrary) but will still have an estimated length to help your search.

Option 2: right in AO3, needs a script, no order

Another option would be to use tampermonkey (or other similar extension) and add the "AO3: Estimated reading time" script. This script displays directly on the fic's box the reading time and you can let it display a colour depending on the level (colour that you can change to you wishes).

If you want to dig through the code, you can very easily change your wpm (I think it's set to 250 by default) and how many minutes changes the colour (for me, under 30 minutes will be green, between 30 and 90 will be yellow, above 90 will be red), but less easily add new levels. (but I guess you could modify and test things around to your wish, do remember to create a copy of the script so you can go back to original).

This means that you can browse through your bookmarks and have a visual help to know how long they are. But again, no order.

Option 3: out of AO3, needs an app, ordered

This option is nice if you read fanfictions on other site than just AO3, but it doesn require some works.

I found this tutorial on how to add work on Calibre (a free ebook reader) and add plugins so you can add fanworks and display a word count, that will therefore be ordered.

This is the second best solution, in my opinion, because it also downloads the works you want and like that you can always have them on hand, but I'm pretty sure it's only for pc.

okay I GIVE UP im breaking down can anyone help me find this one tlt fic on ao3 i haven't seen it since thanksgiving break about three months ago now and its making me lose my mind. i'm pretty sure it was published sometime around then (maybe that month?) but i've tried so many different ways of searching through tags and haven't been able to find the one i'm looking for. i dont remember the author's name or the title and im absolutely certain it's not in my history or bookmarks because i don't have that many fics in either and i've gone through them.

i remember it being really long but just one chapter, and it starts off with a lot of talking about being at BoE and Pal controlling Cam's body shows up then. And if i remember right, Gideon is in control of Harrow's body when that happens. It probably has some sort of post-HtN tag but i obviously read it after Nona came out which means it was published sometime between September and December of last year. Harrow and Gideon switch several times in this, so there might be some sort of bodyfuckery tag on it (which i haven't found it in) because of that, and there's two masturbation scenes in it, one where Harrow's controlling her body, and one where Gideon is.

Any help is appreciated i do not have the patience to keep coming up with nothing by myself

But! That aside, I want to say thank you. I haven’t read your fic. I went over the tags. I read through the summary and warnings. Other than that, it’s been sitting bookmarked for like… a long, long time. Before it was fully finished, I think.

Hello hello! I actually used to have ShiraCheshire as my blog, just like my other accounts, but then I forgot my tumblr password/email like multiple years ago. I had never posted much of anything so it wasn't a big loss. When I got back into tumblr I had to snag a new name since my old one was taken (by me), thus why this blog's name doesn't completely match up.

I wrote a fic! It's faaar from the OG though. While I started writing fairly early on, I didn't post anything until after the actual big fics like Solar Lunacy and Twins had already taken the fandom by storm. And that's not even mentioning the actual OGs, much older fanfics like Late Night to Early Morning (A big favorite of mine.) Are you sure you have the right writer here? haha

I get a lot of recs from cool pals because they know a fic like mine really needs it! OC&Sun and Moon platonic is not a common tag, so it won't show up for a lot of people who exclusively search Reader/Sun and Moon romantic fics. I wouldn't say I'm that big a fic popularity wise, I just have some really awesome dedicated fans and readers who help get my fic out there to help overcome the visibility difficulties I have in AO3 searches. I am very grateful for that!

Well so much for updates while Art Fight was going, I guess this now a recap of the season.

So I though of making a post after my initial attack, but then I thought “no I should do work on my next one.” Three attacks later and here I’m am. I thought I could get a quick update in three weeks in just so I posted anything about Art Fight. I would do this by making a draft tumblr post and hoping I would feel the urge to complete it. Turns out I did not.

Let's get on with this recap of my first Art Fight season. I was on team Werewolves, had only 2 characters, and only 5 bookmarked characters. Unfortunately, I would not get any attacks over the month, but I can understand that. It's just 2 characters, and there's no way to search characters by creation date (other than the 8 newest characters on the front page). There's basically only a few friends that know my Art Fight stuff anyways.

Hopefully next year will be much easier to get an attack. I'll probably upload more of my characters to it in addition to the Florida Collection. Now let's get onto my attacks.

#1: Downy

Of course I would start off with a Rito. I wanted to find avians to draw, and I found this guy by @venonatt. You can see that it has a similar style to my 2 Art Fight OCs, though I varied outline thickness all around as how The Windwaker does it. and so will the next 3. I also added a more basic background with a nice, coloured in name. This was also probably the quickest drawing I made in the past while, taking just 4 days. I really like this character, especially how their hair came out. While I did take colours from the original drawings, this one took the most liberty with colour selection. The last thing I'll say about it is that the mouth was the most difficult part. It seems I cannot do open mouths or smiling for my life. The only reason their face doesn't look 200% weirder is because I put a white line to be their teeth. Otherwise it looks like they're looking at a burger.

#2: Finch

Here's my second, this is based on a character by @fimvie. It took quite longer. That was mainly due to Zeldathon, but this was a little tough to make, there were many redraws. I was initially going to have more outlines for the wings, but that looked too busy. I had to erase all the lines for the wings and redraw them. Beyond that, you can see it's mostly similar to the first attack, except the outlines don't have much varying width. I could've done an outline or not having shading or a background, but I just didn't feel like submitting the attacks that way.

#3: Rowan

So I'm not a person to draw a lot of fan stuff since I came back, but I do still like The Owl House, and this character by @coxinhadoce47-art got my attention. I kept to the same style as before, but I also did the eyes in an slightly TOH style. I was very surprised that this character used mainly purples and red. I'm not sure if any colour on the character is between orange and blue. I also really love the background I made for it. The sky and snow were amazing to make. I especially like adding the bright celestial objects which I added, even if they're small dots.

Also, at this moment, I realised that attack titles didn't need to be just the name of the OC. With that, I wanted to test how long they could be by creating a 2600-character long recipe for buffalo blue cheese hot dogs. Unfortunately only 256 characters can fit in there, so I couldn't put that in, but I didn't leave a character to waste.

#4: Tanniet

My last drawing of Art Fight, and my first friendly fire. This character is by @majoracats. While I thought it would be initially quick, fast enough to maybe do a fifth attack as an outline, I has to turn this in several hours before the event ended. I had to switch my schedule this week to ensure that. It's mainly because I had to redraw the shape of the body multiple times. Tanniet was way taller before, but I felt she needed to be shorter. I made her shorter, but that also involved changing other most other things to keep it proportional. Regardless, I'm proud of what I got to do.

This also has the most detailed background. There's plenty of stuff, textures, and shadows. Surprisingly, that wasn't what took most of the work.

Final Thoughts

Now that this is over, I'll be returning to regular art soon. The thing with Art Fight though is that it completely reset my plans for drawing. I have little idea as to what to make next now. Will I keep up the pace? Probably not, this required doing little in my free time other than drawing, and I want to do other things again. But it won't be long until the next piece.

As for next years, I think I learnt two things. First, after the next attack you submit, post it here with nothing but the credits, rather than writing a million words like me. Second, draw outlines faster. That seems to be the main slow down, I need to get outlines better quicker so I don't need to spend time doing revisions.

Beyond that, I would like to see if I'd be interested in just doing an outline drawing or just simpler drawings. The main reason I went all out on these four was because I liked doing the textures, shading, and text. It's been quite a while since I've done just outlines, but it would be a way to quickly learn them. Art Fight has also gotten me more interested in art events, I can use them to figure out how to draw more, and keep within a time limit.

Anyways, that was my first Art Fight season. I can't wait for the Art Fight postseason.

Today it's time for "paper reviews with Killian" aka using fountain pens has made me utterly pretentious about what paper is in my notebooks. And since my favorite paper, Tomoe River, was discontinued at the end of 2021, I've been desperately searching for a replacement.

Which has lead me here! Endless Recorder is probably my favorite notebook on the market right now. The original uses 68gsm white Tomoe River paper, available in dot grid, square grid, lined, or blank- with a table of contents and numbered pages for all but the blank version. It's hard back with a buttery smooth cover, available in 5 different colors, and has two bookmarks inside. I prefer lined notebooks, which is much harder to find (compared to blank or dot grid) when it comes to Tomoe River paper, and they're just really well made notebooks.

BUT since the paper is getting discontinued, they switched to a new paper- 80gsm Regalia paper. Everything else is the same, but I'm very hesitant about change >_> The fountain pen community has touted Cosmo Air Light as a great replacement for Tomoe River, so I tried it...and absolutely hated it. So I've been very nervous about my favorite notebooks changing. Let's move on before I admit just how many of the originals I've hoarded...

The covers look pretty much the same - save for a font change - but the width is the first real sign that something's different. 80gsm paper is thicker than 68gsm, so the new Recorder is a bit heftier than the original. Same two bookmarks, though!

The inside of the covers look almost identical, except for more small font changes. The ink seems more saturated as well, though I wasn't sure if that was just the lighting.

The ink is definitely more saturated on the new paper. I'm not sure if it's because of the way the paper is made - I never promised to understand the science behind paper - but I do know it looks nice.

The page numbers and lines are nice and crisp in both, and once again more saturated in the new version.

And now, the actual important part: how does it write? I tested it with two pens & inks. The dark blue is shimmery with very little variation in color while the muted mint looks a bit different depending on how saturated it is. The pictures don't quite capture it (probably because I used my phone camera for all of this), though I can still talk about it.

For the most part, the new one behaved very similarly!! It's got just a bit more tooth than Tomoe River, though most papers do; TR is just incredibly smooth. The new paper is also wetter, somehow. I was using a broad nib in both pens, and while my TWSBI 580 is pretty juicy, it was particularly so on the Regalia paper. I'm not complaining, though- I like broad lines that show off as many dimensions of my inks as possible. It does mean that ink takes longer to dry- though part of the smearing also came from my sweaty hands. It was really hot the day I worked on this, and the air conditioning isn't working right in my house ><

So, I'm left-handed, which means I usually rest my hands on the paper in weird ways to avoid smearing wet ink. I've found that paper can hold onto oils from the skin and interfere with how ink lays on the page, and the amount it happens depends on the paper. It usually isn't that noticeable on Tomoe River paper, except in very dark inks (with obvious spots missing from words) and very light inks (where words can be much harder to read due to less ink being put down). My biggest issue with Cosmo Air Light was how prevalent this was. It was inescapable; it felt like if I even breathed on the paper, it would misbehave. Any time I want to use it, I have to rest my hand on a separate sheet of paper or risk angering the paper.

As for Endless Recorder's new paper, I am delighted to find that it doesn't seem affect it at all. I made sure to press my hand against the paper and write over it, and it doesn't mess with the ink in the slightest. It seems like such a small thing, but to me, it matters a lot.

Overall, I'm still fussy about having to change, but I'm looking forward to using Regalia paper more regularly- I just have to finish my current notebook. After that, I'm using my brand new Endless Recorder, and I'm hopeful it'll bring me just as much joy as the original.

The plot is Steve married the reader (adopted Carter) as Peggy's dying wish, but later on after Steve's and his friends many attempt of alienating her on their home and mistreating her, she finally had enough and left. I think she filed for divorce as well? Soon Peggy come clean on her last will and testament that she took advantage of the reader's kind nature and love for Steve, out of jealousy because the reader gets more attention when they were younger.

Not trying to be rude or anything but its true. I think you wrote one great story (All Things Truly Wicked) and you took that as a sign to write a hodgepodge of other one-shots that are not as successful.

You should have just stayed on the high road with that one and left it be.

And as you can see there are many more pieces of fan-art and appreciation on here for her works than for yours. Because people just comment, they don't really care about yours.

I commend you on voicing your opinion in such a compelling way as well! Hiding behind an anonymous screen and giving me unsolicited (and somewhat rude) advice. How brave! Funnily enough I enjoy each and everyone of my stories which is why i continue to write and I have found that there is always at least one person who enjoys them as well. Some are more popular than others but I can assure you they are not filler for anything. Some ideas can simply be expressed in a single chapter and so I write them that way.

While I absolutely adore the fanart pieces that have been dedicated to my works I absolutely do not need them. I don't write works hoping and praying that someone will think they are "worthy" enough to draw. People do it as they please, and i'm grateful for the ones that have been dedicated to me. (love you all artists <3)

So do not say people do not care. I would not write and share them if people did not care about them.

I have gotten a few negative comments regarding my college AU story and honestly that's okay, I know a slow burn modern day romance isn't everyone's cup of tea, you're allowed to like and dislike what you please. I enjoy writing it and I have more bookmarks than I anticipated so surely there are people who want to read on!

And I do not go searching for fame. I have a nice little following and I'm eternally grateful to my 38 followers (hello all!) for everyone who reads, comments, and gives kudos on my story. I do not lie awake at night shaking my fist at a fake injustice that I am less famous than another person doing the same as me.

This features my original characters!

Mikayla sat at her chair in the school library, reading a mystery novel that had caught her eye.

She didn't read often, but when she found a book she thought looked interesting, she could read for hours.

Across from her Dawn was typing away on a essay for English class. She looked like she was constructing hard, and for good reason. Mrs Sandy's English class was known for tough essays. A bad grade on it was considered bad for your overall grade, so many students in her class really focused hard on making sure their essays were great and passable.

Unfortunately Dawn hated essays. She often complained about having to do them, and started on them late. Mikayla often scolded Dawn on starting late on assignments. Dawn was notorious for rushing and and making bad mistakes when late for things, a fact she signed about.

So when Dawn complicated and promised to not be late on the essay, Mikayla rolled her eyes and counted down the weeks when Dawn would not do her essay and then rush the last 2 days it was due.

Cue Dawn panicking during lunch that she hadn't even started it, made a excuse that she was busy (doing other school work, baking, and training as a magical girl Mikayla noted, much to Dawn's ire) and was now busy typing away to finish it before the coming Thursday.

Dawn had begged Mikayla to join her in the library so she could help make sure she got it done. Mikayla signed, telling Dawn that a jelly cookie was going to be needed afterwards, Dawn sighed, a small smile on her face and agreed.

So this was where she was now. It wasn't bad, the after school library was peaceful and Mikayla often tried to come here for peace and quiet after school.

Since she became a magical girl 2 weeks ago, she hadn't had time to come to the library. So today was a lucky day for it.

She had searched the shelves for a book to pass the time. A mystery novel cover caught her eye, the main characters look appealing to her tastes, and she had sat down to read.

It was a great book too. She loved mystery novels. They were one of her favorite genres of literature.

Suddenly Dawn gave out a grown.

Mikayla put a bookmark in the page she was reading and headed over to Dawn.

"What's wrong?" She asked.

"The computer froze, now I've lost half my work!" Dawn complained.

"I'll never get this essay done on time!" She wailed.

"This wouldn't have happened if you started it earlier.."

"I know, I know!" Dawn argued back, putting her head over her arms in defeat.

Mikayla crossed her arms in thought, smiling mischievously.

"I can help you finish it at my house...if."

"If? Dawn questioned, raising her head up, one eyebrow raised.

"We play a round of card guess."

Dawn gave a look of annoyance, but sighed a small smile appearing on her face.

"Yeah that's fair." She explained.

Card game is where you had to match two cards for each player. It was Mikayla's favorite game.

Dawn was never good at it, losing often.

("Awww I almost won! Best outta 3!" She declared after losing a 2 time. Mikayla laughed. "Sure, but I'm still gonna win!" She declared back, shuffling the cards for the next round. Dawn gave a big grin. "Your on!")

They had fun with it, despite Dawn losing often. It was a fun game to them when they didn't know what else to do during the times they hung out. Mikayla smiled at the memory.

" And...I get 3 of your jelly cookies at lunch tomorrow!" Mikayla declared.

Dawn gave a pretend shocked face and gave a dramatic "Not my jelly cookies!" Then gave a grin.

Dawn had gotten Mikayla to love jelly cookies when they went to their local town's bakery. She had said they were really good, and Mikayla wanted to try some new baked goods, it had been a long time since she went out to a bakery for sweets. They bought some and Mikayla had fallen in love with them ever since.

Something about the taste of the jelly mixed with the soft dough tasted delicious to her, Dawn smirking all the while Mikayla ate the cookies in joy.

Dawn often made jelly cookies at home, using a recipe her grandmother had made. She brought them to lunch for dessert often. When Dawn went off somewhere, Mikayla would grab a few to snack on. Dawn would never really notice, until she came back to their lunch and caught her in the middle of taking a few.

Dawn didn't yell or tell her to stop, she had instead rolled her eyes and just laughed, much to her relief. Mikayla had apologized, but Dawn said it was fine. It wasn't like it was crime and they were delicious, she had stated.

So this was just common knowledge at this point, to get a few extra jelly cookies for helping Dawn out. Both were fine with it. If it made them both happy then it was fine.

"Yeah I'll make that a deal with you. Thanks for your help." Dawn explained.

"It's no problem, you'd do the same for me" Mikayla explained.

"Yeah you make the best blueberry muffins..ever!" Dawn explained.

It was true, her grandpa had taught her how to make them as a kid, and it had stuck ever since.

"Hehe, see?"

"Yeah.." Dawn said laughing awkwardly.

Dawn turned the computer off, grabbed her stuff, and they walked out of the computer room, Mikayla grabbing her stuff on the way out of the library.

As they walked down the hall, Mikayla had another thought come into her mind.

"If we finish this in 2 hours, we play 5 rounds of card quess, and you give me 8 of your jelly cookies"

Dawn signed but gave a smile along with it.

"Sure... but you give me 4 of your blueberry muffins in return."

Mikayla laughed. "Deal"

They walked out of the school together, two friends helping the other out.

Mikayla couldn't have wished for anything more she wanted to do than this.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?

My phone. I uh, I didn't keep it there for long. But I couldn't find anything like paper or a wrapper. So, I used my phone to hold my place as I searched for at LEAST a sliver of paper. I found one but yeahhhhh. The binding was a bit fucked after that one.

Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

All the Lore in the False King AU. I straight up am currently figuring out how many days are in a week how many weeks are in a month and how many months are in a year. As well as creating an accurate creation myth for Kairi to pull from. She's a high priestess and I want to make sure the internal logic for her character is properly written with the whole priestess situation. Not to mention how Light and Darkness poisoning work and HOW THE FUCK Scala Ad Caelum works into all of this. I'm certain that when I finally iron this all out, and actually start the fucking prolog to the first Chapter, almost none of that will be seen in the AU. Hell with all this work, I might just file off the numbers and use the concept to make a very intricate book series.

Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?

I don't think a character I've written could be considered stressful. I tend to avoid writing characters that I lack the ability to comprehend or can't reasonably write at all. Which that being said, I have bitched a lot about certain characters in the past. More often get annoyed with certain characters cuz I think they are being illogical, but I know that I own bias. Characters that are prone to annoying the fuck out of me are the ones with certain types of syntax that I have a hard time writing. Examples of which are L (Death Note) and Xigbar. They own both very unique speech patterns which causes me to process what I want to say twice over. Which sucks cuz most of my writing is stream of consciousness based. Although that annoyance typically wanes when I get into the character's head and find a decent bit of even ground.

What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?

There are writing rules? 0-o

Okay but really, I actually am fully aware there are rules. But the issue is, I uh… I forgot them. I took a grammar course for 1 whole year, and the most I can tell you is that Dashes are beloved. Oh, and I hate run Ons, but that's really just it. So, like, if you written stuff seems competent, just know the person who's writing it has no fucking clue if what they wrote even worked. As long as it flows in spoken word, I couldn't care less.

And if you're wondering if that has given me issues? Oh, has it. My friends read my stuff and cringe at my lack of writing prowess. I am truly incompetent. But hey…. No one has commented on my fics that my stories make no sense. So, I got to be doing something right.
