★ What is the longest book you’ve read? Well, Oathbringer held that spot since 2020, but a couple weeks ago I finally got around to reading Rhythm of War and at 460k words (1232 pages!) it now holds the top spot. I listened to the audiobook and followed along with the physical book, which really is the way to go for me with beastly books like this. The audio is over 57 hours long, but I listened at about 2.25x, and it wasn’t near that daunting. 😅 Also, I loved it—five stars, all around. Comentando até a página 162 - Interlúdio ao Capítulo 7.

Finalmente lendo o livro mais >>mendigado<< pelos leitores de fantasia no Brasil, por isso não podia deixar passar em branco, portanto, vou TENTAR ir comentando o que estou achando da leitura. :)

Okay, sobre o prelúdio: entendi nada. Só sei que o Kalak quer pedir demissão e o Jezrien (o rei imortal) deixou, Talenel foi de arrasta pra cima e só precisa que um fique ligado ao Sacropacto...

(Acho que esses comentários vão servir mesmo pra me lembrar das coisas, porque parece que vão 45678 personagens em 38484 lugares diferentes).

Agora quanto ao prólogo (que segundo o próprio Sanderson seria o prólogo 2/3), essa parte foi MUITA BOA! É incrível como o autor e o tradutor conseguiram transmitir tudo de uma forma entendível. Me senti assistindo um filme do Nolan, do Dr. Estranho ou High School Musical!!!!! E se tem uma coisa que o Sanderson é craque é em cenas de ação, Mistborn está aí pra provar.

Esse capítulo, em suma, é o nosso querido Szeth assassinando (em um ato decolonial) Gavilar, o rei de Alethkar e o autor nos apresentando os poderzinhos desse planeta. Ao final, o defunto pediu pro Szeth passar uma mensagem a Dalinar, seu próprio irmão.

Agora no Capítulo 1 (ou o prólogo 3/3) e 2 o nosso recém apresentado e já querido Kaladin está atrás de uma promoção, mas no fim se fudeu. A parte das lutas me lembraram um pouco de Ken Follet e Bernard Cornwell (fica aí a dica).

Já no Capítulo 3, temos uma nova personagem: Shallan, que tem uma missão: dar um golpe e ficar rica. Já estou torcendo por ela!!! Inclusive, gostei muito que ela é artista e devem colocar umas inserções de seus desenhos.

Mas nesse capítulo foi citado alguns termos que eu ainda não estou muito familiarizado e por isso toda vez que são citados eu fico com aquela sensação de que sei o que é mas não lembro, rs. Logo, vou deixar aqui pra consulta (vai que esqueço de vez).

Os primeiros deles são parshedianos e parshemanos. Os parshendianos são mais fortes, altos e inteligentes que os parshemanos, que são dóceis e praticamente mudos (fls. 86); “Parshendiano” é um termo usado pelos Alethianos e significa “parshemanos que raciocinam” (fls. 32). Povo de pele preta com estrias vermelhas.

Certeza que ele vai passar essa impressão de “raça inferior” pra depois desconstruir tudo isso, mas de qualquer forma isso me lembrou os Koloss de Mistborn (mesmo que não tenha nada a ver). Além disso, e ainda falando em semelhanças com Mistborn, os esprenos parecem os espectros... Enfim.

Agora, sobre o rolê dos olhos claros e escuros, eu ainda não estou muito a par, acho que a explicação sobre isso eu deixei passar. Só lembro que tinha alguma coisa de quem tem cabelo preto e olhos claros é “mais puro”, sei lá. 

No Capítulo 4 e 6, Kaladin continua seu sofrimento como escravo e se tem uma coisa que eu espero que o Brandon tenha colocado nesse livro é ele se vingando do mercador de escravos Tvlakv.

O capítulo 6 é muito bom, começa com aquela falsa esperança de que tudo vai dar certo, até que o coitado do Kaladin conseguiu piorar a sua situação de ser UM ESCRAVIZADO, ao ser admitido em seu novo emprego, tornado-se UM ESCRAVIZADO EM UM GUERRA.

Ademais, se você gosta de livros sobre guerra, eu indico muito A guerra não tem rosto de mulher da Svetlana, que nos apresenta algumas declarações de mulheres do leste europeu que participaram da Segunda Guerra Mundial. E, além do tema de guerra, o que me fez associar os dois livros foi o fato de que as mulheres ficavam com a pior tarefa durante o confronto: resgatar os soldados feridos. Era nada mais que a função com a maior taxa de mortalidade, semelhante ao trabalho que nosso querido Kaladin conseguiu.

Já no capítulo 5 e 7, continuamos acompanhando a Marta golpista de Roshar, que simplesmente foi reprovada do ENEM da Jasnah aka Paola Carosella de Alethkar (desculpe pelos apelidos bobos). Nesse ponto, a última coisa da história que li, foi o encontro da Shallan com o Irmão Kabsal, que pediu para que ela desse um recado à Jasnah e, se eu tivesse que apostar, por causa desse recado ela vai ser admitida para ser a pupila.

Ainda no assunto Shallan, eu achei o plano dela MUITO arriscado... Será que não tinha alguma opção mais fácil de se safar da falência de sua família??? Eu hein.

Vou terminando por aqui. Essas primeiras 150 páginas foram MUITO BOAS, estou bastante empolgado com esse livro. As primeiras impressões foram MUITO positivas.

Eu consigo enxergar uma melhora entre Mistborn e esse livro. Em Caminho dos Reis tudo parece mais completo e real, sabe? Em Mistborn eu sempre tive a impressão que tudo que acontecia ali era bem... local? Parecia que tudo estava sob uma redoma? Sei lá, na minha cabeça isso faz sentido.

Se fosse pra comparar com algum livro de outro autor, eu diria que é bem mais simpático e envolvendo que o início de A Roda do Tempo... (além disso, quero só vê qual vai ser a minha percepção sobre A Roda do Tempo depois que eu terminar O Caminho dos Reis).

E é isso. Está sendo um 10/10. Só espero que eu ainda tenha paciência em continuar comentando o livro por aqui...

Thinking about The Way of Kings and the story Wit told within it. One of people that lived on an island. Peaceful in almost every way. And yet, whenever one of them made a mistake they would all gather to beat that person to death. All under the order of their king that did not tolerate failure. Unfortunately for them, it was later discovered that their king had been dead for years in the tower that they did not dare approach. Upon discovering this, the people wept, and screamed, and destroyed.

Sorry for how badly I relayed that story but it has all the essential points. Anyway, as I was saying it was a simple story that according to the Wit, the storyteller, did not have it's own underlying moral(mostly I think cause it was based on true events) and that whatever moral one found in it was exactly what one wanted or needed to hear. Unfortunately, it definitely isn't real and it was structured to convey that people are perfectly fine with doing wrong things as long as they are the responsibility of someone else. Essentially that people are able to justify doing wrong as long as they can either blame their ignorance or someone else for it.

Knowing this I'm forced to wonder if this is why many deny all the evidence that proves that climate change is real and a problem, that people are currently suffering under a racist system, and that sexism is a real and active problem for women. If you can blame your ignorance ("which isn't your fault at all") or your leaders, or your gods, then none of the problems are your fault at all. You are just a product of your surroundings. You just followed orders. You didn't know any better. It isn't your fault. You're not in the wrong.(I swear if any of this is taken out of context)

I worry that my application of a story from The Way of Kings may be true. Cause if it is, it means that some people hope that as long as they can operate in "ignorance" and under the authority of others, they can do whatever they want and be absolved of their sins(for lack of a better word). I'm not exactly religious but I do hold some hope that every self-righteous voluntarily-ignorant follower(cause they're so proud of not being sheep) will eventually be forced to realize that they are responsible for their actions. And I hope that they are crushed by that knowledge.

I just finished reading RHYTHM OF WAR on this last Monday, and, STORMS, that was a ride. I don't think it's my favorite in the series, but it was still incredible. There's a lot of amazing character moments and developments and LORE, and it was just . . . awesome. (It also took me a while MONTH to get through, so I am very ready to move onto new books. It's a heavy story in more ways than one, and it's intense enough that reading it before bed meant that it didn't matter how much self-control I had; it would keep me up no matter what.) Sis anys enrere

El món s’havia acabat i la Shallan en tenia la culpa.

—Fes veure com si mai no hagués passat —va dir el seu pare en veu baixa. Va eixugar-li alguna cosa humida de la galta. El dit se li va tornar vermell.— Jo et protegiré.

L’habitació es sacsejava? No, era la Shallan. Tremolava. Se sentia tan petita. Abans, tenir onze anys li havia semblat ser gran. Però només era una criatura. Tan petitona...

Va alçar la mirada cap al seu pare, estremint-se. No podia pestanyejar, tenia els ulls desencaixats.

—Als abismes tu dormiràs, la foscor t’acarona... —va dir el pare en veu baixa, contenint les llàgrimes.

Una cançó de bressol que coneixia, aquella que ella sempre li cantava. Al fons de l’habitació, uns cadàvers enfosquits jeien a terra. Una catifa vermella abans blanca.

—De pedra i por el teu llit serà, ara dorm, petitona.

El pare la va embolcallar amb els braços i va sentir com la pell se li recargolava. No. No, aquell afecte no estava bé. Un monstre no hauria de rebre amor. Un monstre que matava, que assassinava. No.

No podia moure’s.

—S'acosta ja la tempestat, el vent et bressarà...

El pare va passar per sobre del cos d’una dona vestida de blanc. Hi havia poca sang. Era l’home qui sagnava. La mare estava boca avall i la Shallan no podia veure-li els ulls. Els ulls horribles.

Fins i tot, la Shallan podia imaginar que la cançó de bressol era la fi d’un malson. Que era de nit, que s’havia despertat cridant i el seu pare li cantava perquè es dormís...

—Cristalls amb llum resplendiran, ara dorm, petitona.

Van deixar enrere la caixa forta que el pare tenia ancorada a la paret. Brillava intensament, i la llum s’escapava per les escletxes de la porta. Hi havia un monstre a dins.

—I amb una cançó el temps passarà, i t’adormiràs, petitona.

Amb la Shallan als braços, el pare va deixar l’habitació i va tancar la porta als cadàvers.
