How do you discover the vettonso ship?And when did you decide is your favorite ship?

Hmmmm, okay so Vettonso was originally one of those ships where I kinda had to be like "love it and then leave it" bcs its just so small if that makes sense? Fernando and Seb are my favorites so of course I would love to put them together, but it just wasn't established enough for me when I had first found out about it, whenever that was. But then: boy king au. Basically I posted the statue Seb is based on and was like haha wouldn't it be fun to draw him as a boy king??? So I researched the statue more, and it was of Joseph I, whose brother, Charles VI, is who boy king Seb is based on. Charles VI was in a war of succession for the Spanish Throne. So when I originally drew boy king Seb, I'm like "yeah historically I think the only ship that would work would be Vettonso, bcs of that war. Austria(Red Bull Seb) vs Bourbon-Spain(Fernando and Renault)." So it spiraled from there, because I realized, oh hey wait I can draw fanart for it now! And write lore!

So you can blame the Habsburgs on why I'm so into Vettonso I guess 😭😭 It was just basically that that pushed me into it, bcs it made me realize, oh hey wait I can establish and make whatever I want! Fernando and Seb are my favorites to draw as well, so that worked nicely. I got very into their dichotomy and "storylines" because of that. And I'm now just forever obsessed with trying to put their dynamic in different situations, bcs I think they're equally fascinating. Just with how their careers line up, how they're so similar yet different, how their relationship progressed, etc. Vettonso is fascinating to me because they really are equals in a way I feel like most others ships aren't. It's hard to explain but yeah, idk, I just really enjoy them and exploring their dynamic. I think because they're opposition, but eventually fond, it's very easy to put them in situations, and try to parse out how they would connect, if that makes sense?

Basically: they're my favorite little dolls I like to play around with and put into all kinds of different situations and eras

Hi it's just to let you know that the official romanization of Revaan's name is Raverne ! Also they have romanized Baul's name to Baur !

I do like Raverne though, I think it's got a nice fancy sound to it! (I had kinda suspected it was going to be an R instead of an L, so the fact that it's SO close to Laverne except for that is hilarious to me personally.) and Dragoneye Duke is honestly probably the best translation for his title, I wasn't envying the localizers that one. :') Baur instead of Baul I was NOT expecting, but in retrospect I think his name's supposed to be a reference to the Bauru crocodile, so that actually makes way more sense!

someone else also said Meleanor has become Maleanor, which is the REALLY weird one to me, because I was so surprised it was written as Mel instead of Mal in the first place?! oh god no I can't decide which one I like better. 😭 (I wonder if they might change it to Mal...they have made romanization changes before) (like I remember House of Distraction being corrected to House of Destruction in Playful Land) (I did check and she's still Mel for now, but I dunno, they might Mal her up and some point and save me from having to make a decision about which one to use) (HECK I CAN'T DECIDE)

#I love this exchange so much specifically because it tells us a lot about how the translator microbes work. I mean. I highly doubt that – at #least at this point – john has ever discussed woodies with Aeryn. #But I can quite easily imagine that he’s at one point looked at some alien thing shuddered and gone ‘ugh. Gives me the willies.’ #And since aeryn’s translator microbes picked that up and returned it with woody we can kind of see how they work. #It’s taken willie – a colloquial term for penis – and substituted it with another colloquial term for penis – woody. #The problem is that these terms both have connotations that the microbes don’t pick up on #hence the incorrect substitution. #However they do seem to do okay with homophones #presumably based on context. #It’s like how back in like 2012 if you typed a word into google translate that didn’t translate well #it would give you it’s best guess #and then if you translated it back it would just have a completely different meaning. For me, it has felt very cathartic to write out my story, on my terms, in the way that I want to be known. I hope that the archive can offer that space to other psych survivors as well, and I can't wait to keep developing this project and offering even more. In the next couple weeks, submissions will open up for the second edition of the zine, so if you're interested in submitting creative art or writing keep an eye out!

reading animorphs sequentially instead of in whatever random order you can get your hands on them is such a trip because you can see these kids getting progressively better at war and worse at being happy, you can see how traumatic events from one book echo into the next ones but never quite get dealt with because these kids have no real way to take care of their mental health, you can see their relationships deepening but simultaneously gaining friction and faultlines as they learn just how far they'd go for each other but also how far they'd go in general...

obviously this series was meant to be episodic in nature, and i actually think that might be the better way to first encounter it, but the arc of the series in publication order is extremely well-crafted

#though im having to take a break #i just read 16 and like. In the context of Jake's endgame it has me so fucked up #i mean it's a lot in itself especially since he doesnt really deal with any of what happened #but also like. him genuinely not knowing if he thinks fenestre killing hosts to get their yeerks is okay ot not? #its a bad turning point for him but also still so much better than where he ends up and im too sad #animorphs #tbh im very [miles studying beter meme] about this #its so good at establishing character and themes #and laying down plot hooks for later #in a format i really dont think about much #Semi-episodic book series arent really a thing anymore are they?

So. Fatebreaker, right? Ryne's biggest fears made manifest, daddy issues personified, yes?

He's an amalgamation of Thancred and Ran'jit, his face, his voice and his weapon is Thancred's, but his body, his fighting style and his words are Ran'jit's.

Throughout the fight Fatebreaker constantly makes comments about how only he can protect Ryne, only he can provide for her, only he has even the right to so much as stand beside her, to be in her general presence. He's possessive and obsessive, repeatedly asserting that she is HIS and his only. Which is exactly what Ran'jit says basically every time we encounter him.

But this time it's in Thancred's voice. This time it's with the voice and face of a man she actually cares about.

Ryne isn't scared of Thancred, she never has been. Even when she first met him she was barely even nervous (as clearly shown in Thancred's short story). There's a lot of different feelings happening between those two, but fear has never been one of them.

But now, after things have gotten so much better, she is scared of Thancred becoming like Ran'jit. Because if Thancred was just a little further gone, if he was just a little less compassionate, he would've. It wouldn't be hard for him to go down the same path as Ran'jit did, to be incapable of letting go of the ghost of that girl he loved so so much to the point he'd stubbornly grip anything close to her he could. He didn't, but the fact he could've is terrifying.

It makes his final words, words that are Thancred's, so very important. This is her deepest fears made manifest, but he still says he wants her to be happy. Her happiness not only matters, but is important to him.

#Now we -the audience- ofc knew Thancred was unlikely to go down that path #bc if theres one thing hes been consistent in even in his darkest moments its living up to his loved ones' wishes and legacies #the only time he even speaks against it is his conversation w minfilia in amh araeng #and thats more a case of all his (poorly) repressed grief and stress exploding than him actually meaning what he says #and trying to control rynes life after minfilia literally told him to just let her live her life goes directly against that #i think about fatebreaker a lot. as i do all things related to ryne & thancred #and to me its so important to note that hes more or less ran'jit with just enough thancred in him to be *too* thancred for comfort #its so. her greatest fear isnt even the thing thats been haunting her her whole life (being forced to fill in for minfilia) #its having her free will taken from her by the person she cares about the most (thancred) #and for him to be trapped in endless suffering because he cant move on #just like ran'jit did and was #its not even necessarily that shes all that scared of ran'jit himself #what shes scared about is caring about someone like that #because then she wont say no or try to be anyone but minfilia #(thats also why this fear appears specifically after things get better) #(because she was already ready to forsake herself if it eased thancred suffering) #okay im gonna stop now i need to sleep gnight everyone #ryne waters #thancred waters #ran'jit #final fantasy #final fantasy 14 #final fantasy xiv #ff14 #ffxiv #xander rambles #at this point i should make a tag for ryne ramble posts i make so many of them #tomorrow. maybe. if i remember #edit: i made it #xander being insane about ryne
