Hec the Geck can live on #through Hecate #We even have a catweazle-like magpie named after my youngest sib's magpie character :P (with permission) #I think art is about leaving little bits of yourself in there. #Anyways the whole dumb comic is just a test of my abilities to adhere to industry standards #Gotta use that comic art qualification somewhere XD #I think I can get issue 1 under my belt. As has already been reported elsewhere, Penders recently took to his personal blog to announce a major milestone...

The first Lara-Su Chronicles book (which is mostly a Mobius: 25 Years Later collection) is real. The proof copy has been manufactured. These will be in peoples' hands in a matter of months.

We've already seen the godawful cover art plenty of times before, but I'd like to highlight how bad the back cover blurb is here. It's mostly background info with very little about the actual story. "Some characters would be married with families of their own. Others walked different paths. The fate of a world would be determined." That's all it says about what happens in the comic! The rest is inside baseball stuff. Not exactly a great hook.

However, I feel like this weirdness may be because Ken had to very carefully design the front and back cover so that it isn't selling itself as a new Sonic book. As we've discussed before, Ken regained ownership of all the stories he wrote for Archie Sonic after the settlement with Archie, as well as all the characters he created for the series. He's allowed to do whatever he wants with his old work and his own characters, but he's forbidden from selling new Sonic-branded products. They have to be distinct at a glance. Per the settlement, Sega needed to make sure Ken's future works didn't "have a look or feel as though they were part of a Sonic universe." This is one of the reasons why the cast has been redesigned in a new (bad) art style for The Lara-Su Chronicles.

So while the old comics reprinted inside the book still contain Sonic characters, since Ken can still use that existing material that was forfeited to him in the settlement, you'll notice that nowhere on the new front or back cover does Ken show a character owned by Sega. The only characters shown using their appearances from the original comics are Julie-Su and Lara-Su, who Ken owns. Knuckles has been replaced with his TLSC equivalent, K'Nox, who's probably juuuuuust different enough to be considered a legally distinct character. In the blurb, Ken can mention that he wrote the original stories for Sonic and Knuckles-branded comics, because that's just a factually true statement, but he can't advertise that the book he's selling contains Sega-owned characters like Sonic, Knuckles, or even Sally. They're just... "some characters."

I remain fascinated by the weird needle Penders has to thread here due to the very specific copyright situation he's found himself in.

So, after a literal fucking decade, Ken "Squirrel Years" Penders has finally opened preorders for The Lara-Su Chronicles.

The first (and likely only) volume is a 160-page graphic novel. 140 of those pages are reprints of the original Mobius: 25 Years Later comics, with the final page of the final story being edited to lead into 20 pages of 'original' TLSC material.

Only way this man isn't getting sued is if SEGA don't give enough of a fuck to fight him.

Yeah I hear Ken reiterated his variant covers being a cash grab.  Says the man who not only tries to milk the Sonic connection to his project, but felt the need to tease a Sonic/Image crossover (which barely used the Pre-Established characters) to set up The Lost Ones.

Eh, at this stage of things I wouldn’t even bother getting upset with him. The man clearly hasn’t got anything better to do at this point other than whine, and God knows he ain’t gonna release TLSC anytime soon. Best to just leave him to rot away.

Not only should Sonic Prime have been about other Sonic continuities, they should have had both pre-and-post reboot Archie Sonics. That's right, no balls throw Penders 10k. It won't make TLSC come out any faster. We'll invent a kind of discourse the world has never seen before

Getting into the loki parts of the marvel fandom through owen wilson hornyposting blogs and I'm seeing stuff about how the writers "actually meant for sylive/loki to be weird and controversial and it's all just one long con and they're not endgame" and. More power to y'all honestly but I'm getting war flashbacks. I'm not ready for tlsc (the lokius conspiracy)

i think a lot of us are tjlc survivors and we've learnt our lesson the hard way lmao

personally i'm never gonna do it again, i love being invested in the ship and in the fandom and i love the headcanons and the theories, but just for fun, i'm not gonna take them seriously or expect them to become canon

idk who's saying that, i agree that s*lki might not (and hopefully will not) be endgame, but that doesn't mean that it was written to be weird. or rather, if it was written to be weird and controversial they did a shit job, because aside from that one little jealous tirade from mobius it was never treated as such. even mobius starts acting like it's normal in that same episode. it feels weird because it is weird, but it's not written as weird.

and most of all, s*lki not being endgame doesn't mean lokius is. it would be great writing, but we know far too well that between good writing and heteronormative writing, chances are they're gonna pick the latter.

The first volume of the Lara Su Chronicles is currently due to come out by July 2024 and it's mostly a remaster of Mobius 25 Years Later. Assuming it does come out, will you buy it and review it

Looks like this is finally the real deal. He's taking preorders, and he says he's putting in the order with his publisher within the next two months. I will, of course, be obligated to look at this in some capacity. I've been waiting for literally anything from TLSC to release for the entire 9-year history of this blog. I doubt I'll have much to say about the reprints of M25YL, but it does have those first two chapters of The Lara-Su Chronicles that he's been posting WIPS of for god knows how many years.

Lord knows what happened to the motion comic app that these were supposed to be released on. He seems to mainly just be telling people to buy the $36 hardcover book with the reprints included, and now that he's left Twitter and moved over to his own personal blog I don't really feel like sifting through his posts about the Beatles and whatnot to find an answer. So I guess this means I probably have to buy the book. Which means giving Ken my home address lmao

Anyway in case anyone was curious, yes, he really did go with this cover art that's just a vastly worse copy of Spaziante's cover for Archie Sonic #131

Also I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated TLSC, but I am steadily working on it.

For those waiting for a GMTR update for my Brian series, it’s coming. Just writing up chapter 4, and hopefully will be able to get chapter 3 up soon 💕
