I often find myself wondering "What if NMJ and NHS were born at the same day (much like JGY and JZX), and were the same age during the story? Would their relationship change? Would they still have the same friends? Would their role in the sect change as well?"

(Of course, if you're interested in writing it, you don't need to answer all those questions and it could simply be about the "twins'" shenanigans haha)

Their relationship would definitely be different. A big part of their canon dynamic as I see it is the fact that NMJ is much older (I'm not sure what canon says, but my headcanon is 6 years apart), and because of their parents' deaths, pretty much had to raise NHS, being both brother and parent to him. So if they're born on the same day, that dynamic is completely removed - they can just be brothers.

So how would this affect things?

Nie Bros

Well, NMJ would have huge changes. The one thing that isn't a concern is his role as Sect Leader - not only does NHS have no interest, but being the son of Daddy Nie's concubine solidifies NMJ as the heir. But their having been raised together from the very beginning could still solidify a strong friendship between them - I imagine NHS' mother might have encouraged him to be the person to help NMJ remember what it's like to be a kid (because he's usually all work/no play). So NMJ will have someone at his side who supports his younger side, who reminds him to relax and to make friends and that there is more to life than work and leading his sect. Also NMJ would be able to step away more having a brother of equal age to temporarily manage things in his absences. The conclusion is that NMJ would be a little more relaxed and easygoing, and may not have as much Big Da-ge Energy as in canon - though he might be more frustrated with his brother's unwillingness to train/take responsibility because NHS won't be *baby*, he'll be *my lazy brother*.

NMJ would also no longer be known far and wide as Da-ge - NHS will still call him that on occasion, usually when he doesn't want to do something and wants to emphasize NMJ should do it because he's older. (NHS: Age before beauty, Da-ge! NMJ: Enough with the Da-ge, I'm five minutes older. NHS: That's still older, old man, now let me rest in peace :p)

NHS as well would have some differences because, as no longer the 'baby' of the family, I don't think he'd be spoiled QUITE as much, and probably wouldn't be allowed to get away with as much as he does. There would probably be expectations that he would eventually be NMJ's 2nd, his right-hand-man, and he'd try to get out of those as much as possible, but he'd be seen less as NMJ's natural successor and heir because he'd be encouraging NMJ to find a wife, pushing him to have a life outside of work.

Canon Events

So the big thing in my head that would be affected by all of this is the canon timeline because... *drumroll*... With our Director Nie and Sect Leader Nie being the same age when their father dies, I fully imagine them to put their heads together to avenge their father as soon as they can figure out how to succeed. They would be 15/16 when their father dies of qi deviation because of Wen Ruohan, so def. old enough to plan out revenge. We all know what happens when NHS loses someone he loves, after all, and NMJ will no longer be preoccupied with raising his baby brother, and instead can dedicated time and brainpower to taking down WRH.

I would like to think they can succeed - NHS would be more likely to try and find a 'dishonourable' method of revenge - that might actually bring conflict between them, the method of revenge and whether it's worth it - but I think their relationship would be solid enough to work through it (or at least to forgive each other in the end).

So yeah, WRH keels over in his soup one day or something and the Sunshot Campaign never happens.

Other Relationships

So... we know there are only so many characters mentioned by name in canon (hell, the Nie Bros are the only Nie mentioned at all until Fatal Journey was filmed), but from what we can see, there aren't many contemporaries to the boys. LXC would be closest at a few years younger (my headcanon is 3 years diff), but the rest of the young masters and mistresses of their generation seem to be younger. This means we won't have our One Braincell Trio (*cries*), though NHS might want to adopt JC and WWX as baby brothers.

That's all I can think of right now, but this is a fascinating idea - I'm tempted to try and write something small to get a feel for it.

Soooo... In the light of this post, I had a brainrot. What if Nie Mingjue adopted Jiang Cheng?

Now,I know the reasoning should be deeper than "NMJ DAGE SENSES TINGLE", but pls stay with me k? I am not guaranteeing this will make sense and suggestions are more than welcome!

Now that the premises are out of the way, let's start.

So, around the time when WWX, JC, LWJ, MY and NHS are delivering XY to NMJ in Qinghe, NMJ praises the Yunmeng bros and NOTICES that they light up like lanterns at night, ESPECIALLY JC, who has gone:

Anyway, NMJ's Dage senses are tingling. Did he just sense parental disappointment? Daddy issues? Mommy issues? 5 childhood complexes in a hanfu just barely held together? WHOMST is doing this to such a young man and by proxy to WWX too, even though it seems that WWX is far more used to praise, so meh. But Dage NOTICES that throughout the whole banquet/dinner JC is literally sparkling cos someone finally gave some rightully deserved praise and it is the biggest man in the whole Qinghe (and possibly the whole cultivation world). JC is selling himself short though.

NMJ turns to NHS mentally asking what he would think about a few more brothers, NHS shrugs and mentally communicates stuff like "you know, love me some free brothers".

NMJ cannot think of a way to let JC and WWX stay, so things go as per canon up until the Yunmeng bros go back home and they kneel in front of JFM to ask for forgiveness.

And here JFM decides that he can forgive WWX, because he is not in line as heir and other reasons, but because JC SHOULD be the heir and so on and he has disappointed him, he must be punished.

And so he says: "Jiang Cheng go away and don't come back until you understand what you did". JC is devastated. To really drive the point home, JFM decides that now Yanli is the heir.

Madam Yu isfurious and as a last "fuck you" she gives Zidian to JC, then leaves into the night to go back to the Meishan Yu sect "for a period of reflection, I am going back to my mother for three months at least Fengmian, you can't stop me".

FYI the destruction of Lotus Pier will take place and WWX will lose his core to WZL and tossed in the Burial Mounds where he will take on demonic cultivation, I will come back to it in a moment.

Anyway JC takes his things and leaves Yunmeng. NHS finds him on the street and is like "my best friend? ON THE STREETS FOR LIFE? NOT ON MY NIE WATCH!"

And he takes him to Qinghe, where he does the puppy eyes to NMJ. "But DagEEEE, he has bEEN TOSSed on the streets, you CANNOT LEAVE HIM OUTSIDE" and explains the situation.

NMJ never had any chance when faced with the power of Being The Younger Brother emanated by NHS and JC.

He decides, that's it, from today on you are a Nie and no I will not accept objections. And so JC becomes NMJ and NHS' brother, stops wearing Jiang purple and starts wearing Nie grey. He still has Sandu and Zidian, which are allowed in honour of Madam Yu, whom NMJ respects a lot. And JC becomes better, a little less angry, albeit grumpy as ever.

NMJ is also more comforted by the fact that when he dies NHS will be able to rely on JC.

And then Lotus Pier is destroyed and NMJ asks JC what he wants to do and he says that he wants to take to Qinghe Yanli and WWX - and NMJ agrees. All considered, NMJ is better prepared in case Wen Chao arrives.

And JC saves Yanli, but WWX is now in the Burial Mounds without a core.

Things go as per canon, Yanli does not die but she has to rely heavily on the Jin clan, WWX still flings himself of the cliff and JC suffers, but he still has enough support from NMJ and NHS - he is now more than ever a Nie.

This until Dage dies. And then NHS and JC start working on avenging him properly - and things go as per canon.

The Untamed, episode 42 - watching notes

I was up playing partygames over discord until 3 am yesterday, so I didn't get to watch another episode. I complained about it to my friends, which in turn made them complain that I sounded like I would rather watch my "gay chinese fantasy show" than spent time with them. I contemplated saying yes, but decided to keep my friend instead :D

And we were currently in the middle of a confrontation with Jiggy (as I've been informed he's called ... what? ^^) who apparently murdered his son to keep some secret, which with how this shows is going, I wouldn't be surprised is them going full game of thrones and ... you know what I'm talking about

So here he is again, using his second chance without a thought.

Because lwj believes that wwx is right, MORALLY, so he will go against his clan, reputation be damned, and stand with the man he loves ... finally. He'll choose what they both believe to be right and walk with him "until it's dark" :')

You know why I support Asexuals right to be loved and cared for in the community is because, we're dicks, we really are, you know that right? We try and claim to be so morally superior to the hets and the cis because "they're the oppressors, we can't be oppressing anyone if we're oppressed" and sure, that's a brilliant surface level rebuttal not reminiscent of the same neo-lib shit you hear predominantly from the hets and the cis (usually together) but let's go a lil deeper.

For most people homo/transphobia begins at school where you have the most ignorant class of all, children. They don't know shit but they know what their parents say at the news and copy that. That's how you get "gay" as an insult and you start to see the bullying of asexuals. I had a friend who, in a year 10 sexual health class said "sex is repulsive, I can't believe why anyone would take part". At first none of us knew what to say since, he wasn't religious besides being Buddhist but he didn't take that too seriously so we couldn't use that as a reason. He didn't really like anyone so the idea he'd gotten a date in the first place to be rejected was a farfetched idea.

This made it something new, something different and what do we do with something different? We stamp it out of course! (please understand sarcasm) So, we bullied him for it. Called him weird, said he was unnatural and get this, infront of the special sexual health person they brought in from the NHS. She never said anything about asexuality or tried to stop us at all. If she did, it probably wouldn't have gone down like this.

Of course he then lashed out, we were being disgusting people to him let alone horrible friends. I'm not surprised I joined in though. I was an insecure egg who didn't want to come off as queer at all in case I got the same treatment. I kept saying it was under the guise of "helping him assimilate into normal society" which, looking back on it, sounds fucking reprehensible. I was horrible to him because he was asexual, he came out a year later after we'd calmed down a bit.

However, hoping the rumours had gone away, he came out to us specifically and we ripped him apart, it was awful, I wish I never did it. I regret all of it looking back and I hope people can see how much of a different person I am now. I feel guilty and I've apologised to my friend since. Suffice to say, we're not friends anymore (he threw some stuff back at me which was also horrible, tried to beat me up too but I'm taller so).

The point is, this is just one story but its eerily similar to my families reaction to me being trans. To them its inconvenient, a reason for society to hate me and their saying these things to "help" me. Asexuals face oppression every day, just because it isn't state sanctioned, doesn't mean it's not societal. Some of these people go so far down the hole of "acceptability" they forget to show compassion or empathy with these people.

Asexuals don't live in a void!

Asexuals are oppressed!

Asexuals need and deserve protection and they're not going to get it from anywhere else!

Anyone who disagrees seriously needs to evaluate their morals as I did!

Asexuals deserve love!

♦ (20/f) Today my father told me to go hang myself. I am adamant on the fact that no, my parents aren't abusive. But they do say hurtful things. Thing is, I actually *am* suicidal. I don't know how to explain them how I feel and how certain words trigger me and make me self-destructive, since they.. really don't understand anything when it comes to mental health. How do I go about that? Because one day I might just go and do that and that's not what I really want...

that is an…incredibly disturbing and cruel thing to say to anyone, never mind your own daughter /: did he apologise at all for saying that?

it’s 100% not ok for your father to say that to you! people might be ignorant of mental health issues sometimes, but there can be no doubt that he knew what he was saying and the implications of what it meant. there is no possible valid reason for your father to say that, it was deliberate and intentional. 

it’s a little easier for someone to make a “flippant” comment about mental illness, when they can’t connect with or relate to it? but knowing that someone very close to them is suffering can suddenly bring it home and make things feel more real, suddenly mental health is important, they (hopefully) want to understand and allows more compassion to come through.

you could possibly try printing out some info on depression and suicide? blackdoginstitute, beyond blue and the nhs website all have some good facts on depression / suicide that’s written in a way that’s easy to understand – ask your parents if they’ve got time to talk, have the print-outs with you and go from there. if your parents don’t understand then the information you’ve printed out about suicide can help – when someone understands something, it’s easier for someone to be compassionate and empathetic. 

try to be as honest as you can in the conversation with your parents, don’t hold back! answer any questions they have as best you can – the honesty is going to be hard to do when you’re talking to people who might judge you, but it can go a long way in them being more caring, supportive and careful in what they say because they can see it has real consequences and effects. 

if it becomes clear that talking to your parents isn’t helpful, and is only causing you distress? then it might be a better idea to seek help from other sources instead – friends, other family members, any other adults you trust and feel comfortable around.

you know your parents, I don’t?! if you say that they’re not abusive then I do believe you. however, even if you can’t talk to them about mental health? you can try to tell them to stop saying such cruel and unnecessary things (such as suicide baiting), because it genuinely hurts you and upsets you. if they can’t acknowledge that? then living somewhere else for a time could be something to think about, you deserve love and support right now
