99% sure you've read this one but it's literally just Logan drags Krel into hanging out with them and then they get attacked by bounty hunters. Yes, it is wizfic verse based aka it has Mort and Seamus and Douxie are friends.
Here's a tiny snippet under the cut:
“What d’you think, Krel?” says Logan. “Aliens. Real or not real?”
“Definitely real,” says Krel. “The universe is huge and you think life is restricted to this mudball?”
“Exactly!” says Seamus. They start walking towards the woods. Krel still looks uneasy, but he follows them anyway. It’s only just starting to get dark, but as they get deeper in the forest they can see more stars, and Seamus points upwards. “Any one of those stars could have planets, and those planets could have life. And we can’t even see a fraction of the stars in our galaxy alone.”
“Seamus tells us this all the time,” says Steve. “He’s obsessed.”
“One day, I’m going to be on the team to make first contact with aliens,” says Seamus. He grins at Krel. “You can be on the team, too. I’d offer to Logan and Steve but they’re not smart enough.”
“Excuse you, I’m plenty smart!” Steve protests.
Seamus makes a face. “Debatable.”

-ONE LAST KISS-
♡~~♡~~♡~~♡~~♡
Summary: You can't help but think about the last kiss you shared with Luke before he revealed himself as a traitor.
Warnings: Angst; Reader feels guilty;
Requested: Nah
GN Reader!
....................................
The walls of your cabin seemed to swirl around you as silent tears streamed down your face.
You had tossed and turned for hours, but sleep just seemed to evade you. Always just out of reach no matter how tired you were.
As quietly as you could, you climbed from your bunk, not bothering to put on shoes as you slipped silently out of your cabin.
Your brain seemed to be om auto-pilot as your feet carried you to the edge of the forest. Sitting at the base of an old oak tree you and Luke often used to find yourselves at.
You leaned back against the large tree, the space next to you feeling all too empty as it had since Luke had left you behind.
It hurt. Him leaving.
He hadn't even bothered to properly say good-bye, an action that left you wondering if he's even cared about like you cared for him.
A stupid thought. You know he loves you. But doubt clouded your mind everytime you thought about it.
The Luke you fell in love with seemed to be lost to you when you last saw him. It was like a completely different person had stolen the body of your love, and was simply taking claim of his face and name.
His usually bright blue eyes were dull, and cold. As though they'd frozen over.
He'd hardly looked at you.
Barely acknowledged you were there.
You choked back a small sob, burying your face in your hands. You were mentally scolding yourself for not noticing his shift. The small things that should have clued you in as to what was happening.
Against your wishes your mind flashed back to the last kiss you'd shared. How different it felt compared to all the others.
You hadn't payed it much thought at the time, but now, looking back, you couldn't help but notice how emotional he seemed then.
Like he was never going to be able to kiss you again.
His hesitant breath against your lips as he pulled away. The way his touch lingered on your cheeks a little longer than usual.
You hadn't noticed.
You simply pressed two quick kisses to his face, one to his jawline, the other on his scar. Then you smiled and left him to go teach archery.
Maybe, if you had noticed his tension, the hesitance to let you go, you could have prevented all of this.
You knew realisticly you weren't to blame. Kronos had been poisoning Luke's mind for months, but even then you hadn't noticed.
Certainly there were things you had. You had tried to get him to confide in you about his stresses, but he'd refused. When you got more pushy with it, he began distancing himself.
You stopped asking, not wanting to push him to much, and he seemed to relax, so you let it go. After that, it seemed like everything was fine again.
The two of you would stay up passed curfew, go for walks through the strawberries like you always had.
Then he left.
He left camp, and he left you.
You sent a silent prayer to whatever god was listening, begging for a moment of peace. For just one minute without your brain screaming at you.
You were of course met with nothing but your tear stained face, and the silence of the camp around you.
"Just one." You thought to yourself, "I would have been happy with just one last kiss."
....................................
And here it is! My first ever fic for the pjo/hoo/toa fandom! I had the biggest crush on Luke when I first read the books, so I thought he was a good pick.
And I am taking request atm so shoot me an ask if you have an idea!<3

So I am re-reading TOA and i have decided to write some things i noticed now that I know what is going to happen next.
THE HIDDEN ORACLE
Meg was about do develop a crush on Percy, and Apollo noticed. It was immediatly curbed by Percy mentioning his girlfriend. He did not even notice XD
Apollo actually got out of the three legged death race unscathed O.o Scared to death but unharmed
Lester is being surprisingly not pathetic??? I mean, he can't remember shit and has the constutution of a limp noodle, but he has not fainted in several chapters!!! Maybe it's because Camp Half Blood is a relatively safe space for them...
THE FORESHADOWING IN CHAPTER 26 IS DEVASTATING - he gets confirmation it is the emperors behind everything and he thinks "i would have rather tangled with Tartarus or Ouranos or Primordial Chaos" APOLLO PLEASE
Speaking of foreshadowing, Rhea?!??!? "Find your center. Enlightenment has to come from within" HELLO??!?!??
Apollo mentioning he caused an earthquake that wiped out most of Sparta and that he never liked the Spartans much??? What about HYACINTHUS???????
"I busted out some footwork the Nine Muses and I had been working on" please I want so bad to see Apollo dance. Especially Apollo as Lester
Apollo being absolutely convinced that he will never have a proper partner is tragic. "It was not in my destiny" bro
The Germani appear and the absolute first thing Apollo does is move in front of Meg. "Instinctively". This is the same guy that at the beginning of the book was evaluating which demigods would be best to keep on hand to throw at quests. I can't. Just how much exactly did he repress his protective instincts through the years and centuries?
I find so fascinating that Apollo wants to strike Nero down immediately after meeting him. Like, yes. Apollo is a god. And he would not allow anyone to threaten what he cares about. Even after his trials, he might be kinder and more attentive to demigods, but I think that anybody who crosses him (really crosses him) will have to start praying for mercy.
If there is one thing I can say about TOA is that it is certainly expanding my musical horizons, with all the songs I have to check out on youtube just to have an idea of what Apollo is singing about.
He did not suck during the confrontation with Nero?! Burst of godly strength saved the day and his dignity
"Just because she had lied about being my friend did not mean I wasn't hers. She was in danger. I was not going to leave her" man. He cares so fucking much. No wonder he never let anybody get close to him in the last years.
Didn't they say a sonnet was worse than a limerick in the next book?
"BLESS HIS CONNIVING LITTLE HEART". "Children of Hermes cannot rap". "[Cecil] was demoted to dancer" skjsjskansnkzbsnsmmsnzm
It's kind of ... sad? How happy Apollo is when flying on the giant ants. He is used to being a god who can fly whenever he wants, and a part of him is usually in the sky every day as he drives the sun chariot. And instead he has been stranded on earth, away from what is both his duty and something he greatly enjoys. "It felt so good to fly again. [...] For two or three seconds I was exhilarated".
AND THE ARROW OF DODONA IS FINALLY HERE AND TALKING FRIENDS!!!!
I cannot believe I am so happy because of a talking arrow
The arrow QUIVERED kjsnsksjsnsnzjxndnsk i love them so much
Not Apollo asking where Jason Grace is 💀
I genuinely cannot understand if this is foreshadowing or really lucky wording on Riordan's part. Rachel asks about Meg and Apollo thinks "She might as well have plunged the Arrow of Dodona into my chest". RICK. RICK DID YOU KNOW? HAD YOU ALREADY THOUGTH ABOUT THAT SCENE IN TBM OR WAS IT PURE CHANCE????
WE WERE ROBBED. I have been wondering for a few days if in TOA we ever see Apollo sing for fun (not to confuse enemies, not to open doors, not for any practical purpose. Just for the fun of it). The depressing answer seems to be no, although I might have forgotten. At the end of THO it is implied that Apollo, Leo and Calypso join the sing-along at CHB, but the fact that the books end before we actually see him sing is a travesty.

Five Ways NaNoWriMo Turned Me into a Writer at Fifty-One
Tumblr media
No matter your age, NaNoWriMo has something to offer for you. For participant, Dorothy Wong, Camp NaNoWriMo gave her the chance to finish a novel! Read below to learn about her experience and what she gained during her writing journey. The year I turned forty, I took a twelve month leave from my job. With no work commitments, I thought I would finally write my novel. While I ended up with a blog full of chatty travel posts and fantastic memories, I didn’t write my book, not even a rough outline. Anytime I tried, I found myself distracted and overwhelmed. If I couldn’t write during that sabbatical year, I told myself, I was never going to write anything. And for almost a decade, I didn’t.
Then a friend posted on Facebook that she was attempting a month-long writing challenge called NaNoWriMo. My first thought was, “Why would anyone voluntarily sign up for that?”. I couldn’t imagine putting myself under that time pressure to produce an actual novel.
Turns out, NaNoWriMo was exactly what I needed to break through my self-imposed barriers to writing. During Camp NaNoWriMo April 2021 I went from never writing at all to writing an average of 1500 words per day and creating a flawed, but completed, 50,000 word manuscript. I was ecstatic. Not only did I finish a novel, I thoroughly enjoyed the process.
Here are the top five ways NaNoWriMo turned me into an enthusiastic writer at fifty-one:
1. Community: There’s nothing quite like being part of a group effort, where everyone is cheering you on to complete your 50,000 words. NaNoWriMo is dedicated to creating safe and diverse spaces, including providing online and in-person opportunities to meet fellow writers. As an older writer, I worried about keeping up when the participant age range skewed much younger. To my relief I found a community through the BIPOC online meet-ups that connected me to others like me, many with established careers and extensive life experience, who wanted to write. Finding a community of writers will give you the support you didn’t know you needed.
2. Timed Sprints: During my first online writing sprint, to my absolute shock, I churned out 600 words in 15 minutes. Being in the company of others who are all doing the same thing (known as “body doubling”) really worked for my brain. Scientific studies show that doing a task in tandem with others increases productivity. If you’ve never tried timed writing sprints, they can be a game-changer.
3. Word Count Tracker: NaNoWriMo’s online word count tracker sent an instant dopamine hit to my brain every time I updated my progress.
4. Word Count Goal: While writing an entire novel can be daunting, reaching 50,000 words felt doable. Broken down to 1500 a day, I worked in short bursts throughout the day, finding time around my job and caring for my family, to get that word count in. When I reached my goal each day, I felt incredibly motivated to keep going. Even if I didn’t reach the goal, getting some words down every day kept my inspiration burning.
5. Limits are Freeing: NaNoWriMo’s time-bounded word count freed me from the “what if it’s not any good” voice in my head. If I wanted to write, I had to sit down and write, no excuses, and I had to keep moving the story forward, as there was no time to go back and edit. By accepting that I would be writing a crappy first draft, I gave up perfection and embraced the challenge.
NaNoWriMo made me finally believe that I could write a novel. If you’ve spent a lifetime trying to get started on your novel, I encourage you to give NaNoWriMo a try!

Cabin Seven Headcanons
Apollo kids are scared of snakes
Snakes are the first monsters that come for Apollo kids
Cabin seven is cabin six’s first port of call for spider eviction (and cabin six take point on snake eviction in turn)
There used to be a head counsellor nook with a desk etc. in the cabin until Lee converted it into more instrument storage (head counsellors now just have to make do with their bunk space)
The Curse of Delos around the cabin is a marker and a warning - this is sacred ground and everyone within it is under Apollo’s protection (the cabin is, technically, a temple to the god)
Apollo kids are heavy sleepers and not much will wake them up if it’s not dawn yet (unless they’re on a quest)
While not all Apollo kids are morning people, but they do have a natural tendency to be up with the sun (the mortal parents despaired at the active babies the moment dawn broke every morning)
Apollo kids are more powerful in sunlight; the infirmary has a retractable roof in order to let in maximum light while they’re healing
Cabin seven has skylight windows as well as the regular ones
The curtains in cabin seven are blackout curtains to keep the light shut out (they’re normally left open at night, but closed when they want to sleep during the day e.g. they’ve been up all night healing, or when they want to do some instrument recording)
The cabin is only silent at night when they’re all at sleep; otherwise there’s always some sort of noise going on, whether it’s instruments or talking
Apollo kids are except from harpy-munching if they’re out after curfew because the reason is probably a medical emergency
Bows are supposed to be kept in the armoury but they keep ‘accidentally’ ending up in the cabin when Chiron’s not looking
Apollo kids are always claimed as soon as they arrive at camp, even before Percy made the gods swear; no Apollo kid has ever spent the night in cabin eleven (unclaimed, at least)
Satyrs are particularly terrified of escorting Apollo kids to camp because they’re worried about what Apollo would do if his kid got hurt or worse under their watch (Apollo kids have a very high success rate of getting to camp alive)
The only domain all Apollo kids inherit without exception is healing; not all of them are powerful healers but it manifests somehow in all of them
Apollo kids are fine with brighter lights than most people
It’s not a ritual for them to wave at the sun when it passes, but most of them like to anyway even though they can’t see Apollo in the chariot (they know he’s waving back at them, though)
Apollo is a generally well-liked parent and the cabin trusts him
Not a single Apollo kid joined Kronos’ side in the war
Apollo drops in on their dreams approximately once a week.  It’s an open secret because they know other gods aren’t that active (especially after TOA, when they have a better idea that Apollo isn’t supposed to be interacting with them quite so much)
Apollo kids are both Greek and Roman because Apollo doesn’t change between the two and therefore could attend either camp but the vast majority end up at CHB because Apollo’s the patron of the camp and directs them there instead
Apollo kids are all fluent in both Latin and Ancient Greek (but not Italian, and their attempts to garble Latin to make sense in Italian usually fail miserably)

THE WINNER FOR WHAT I WILL BE INSANE ABOUT TODAY - cause jokes on you all i’m insane about this topic every day - DEMIGODS LIVING OUTSIDE THE CAMPS (suggested by @pjoandgreekthings)
Okay so canonically, we know of technically 4 established demigod “groups” outside of the camps - the Hunters of Artemis/Diana, the Amazons, the Waystation, and as of post-TOA, Meg’s little group. Former groups include the Titan Army, Giant Army, and Circe’s Island. Other than them we have the vague notion of “rogue” demigods, which all of the aforementioned groups are technically, at least categorically. “Rogue” demigods just refers to demigods who aren’t “campers” at either camp - Nico is probably the most prominent rogue demigod in the series, though recently he shifted more into being a proper camper. I say specifically “campers” because retired legionaries from Camp Jupiter who no longer live there are still considered members of Camp Jupiter, and we have quite a few examples of rogue demigods who are affiliated with either camp or Olympus in general.
We know very little of rogues, but what we do know is pretty interesting. There’s also some potential things we can infer - like, due to the presence of the Amazons, theoretically that implies the Gargareans are also somewhere. The existence of the Waystation also confirms that rogue demigods are fully capable of creating independent safehouses (and we also know Annabeth, Luke, and Thalia created safe campsites during their travels together) so the Waystation is most likely far from the only one (though possibly one of the few with a particular divine patron). We also have examples consistently throughout the series of monsters working alongside demigods peacefully, so there’s plenty of precedent for miscellaneous monster/rogue demigod alliances, which is a very fun potential dynamic.
The independent rogue demigods we know the most about are: Nico, Alabaster Torrington, Luke/Annabeth/Thalia from pre-CHB, Mimi (from Camp Jupiter Classified), Chris Rodriguez (though we don’t actually know much about Chris’ time as a rogue or in the Titan Army), and the presumably escaped sorceresses from Circe’s island. Based on Hylla and Reyna, we can presume most of the sorceresses who escaped either joined the Amazons with Hylla or ended up commandeering pirate ships to go do whatever. Between the Waystation and Alabaster, we have a pretty strong implication that Hecate/Trivia kids in particular are skilled at creating and maintaining demigod safehouses, though this skill isn’t exclusive to them (and also, magic isn’t exclusive to them either - since we know the sorceresses were learning magic). Because of Nico (and also the Hunters, and Reyna to a degree) we can also infer that most rogue demigods were actually fully aware of the Greek/Roman split, and particularly with the Waystation we know they’re also probably fully aware of there being non-Greco-Roman pantheons as well. In fact, it’s actually very possible that most rogue demigods are actually Norse, as there is no formal Norse demigod space - at least for the living - which means most Norse demigods would be forced to become rogues until they die and possibly end up in Valhalla. Grim!
We also know most rogue demigods are either non-Olympian demigods or Olympian demigods with very few if any powers, because of how monsters tracking demigods works. The less powerful a demigod is, the more they can avoid monsters. The more powerful a rogue is, the more difficult it is for them to survive due to being hunted down constantly. The only known exception to this is the Hunters of Artemis/Diana, with which it seems Artemis’ patronage overrides the aura of the demigod’s divine ancestor or something similar to protect them. Basically any other demigod is going to find it extremely difficult to survive. A lot of rogue demigods are also heavily implied or directed stated to be rogues because their respective camps didn’t respect their divine ancestors - Mimi and Alabaster are both examples of this - or because of some situation actively relating to their divine ancestor (such as is implied with Chris).
Anyways I have so many thoughts about rogue demigod groups.

Part 1
Part 3
@pjo-hoo-toa-freakazoid thank you so much for the help!!!!!!
Disclaimer: I know tsats was supposed to be about Nico, but I'm making this about Octavian and everyone else is collateral damage.
Also the nightmare part was supposed to be in italics to be more clear it was a dream, but for reasons it ended up not being italized.
Enjoy the confusion Octavian felt.
...
"Mother, did you request us?"
"Shouldn't the demigods have nightmares?"
...
Octavian saw himself. Not as he was now. He saw him alive, without the burns and injuries, with his body and teddy bears. His face expressed disdain.
Octavian saw himself, planning the attack about to happen. The centurions around the map, him making last minute adjustments, the Greeks making a mess.
He was furious. He wanted to kill every single one of those Greeks, and to think one of them was a son of Apollo. What a waste.
“Can you believe how stupid you were?”
The face of disdain had become scorn.
“No wonder Apollo stopped talking to you, abandoned you. Who would want to keep a deal with a buffoon?”
“You are seeing what is happening!! It was not my fault!! The stupid Greek-”
“If they are stupid, what does that make you? Afterall, they were able to fool you.”
“Apollo promised-”
“What does it matter what he said? You’re on Tartarus while all the Greeks are well and alive and even going to Camp Jupiter.”
Octavian could feel himself trembling with anger while imagining all the atrocities Perceus was doing at his home. If he had no respect before, now that New Rome lost the war, the little piece of shit would be going nuts.
“It is not my fault.”
“Then, whose fault is it? Didn’t the god of prophecy make you a promise?”
Octavian didn’t sleep. He couldn’t sleep. He was a ghost. But somehow he had a nightmare. It wasn’t a memory which made him unsure if he was in the past or the present. It was a nightmare.
Maybe it was Tartarus. Maybe that was why he had a bad dream. Tartarus.
A hero on Tartarus. Something was wrong. Instead of hearing his own self mocking what happened, he heard Reyna. She would find this very funny. He remembered feeling humiliated and looking at her for aid to only find a smirk.
When Octavian paid attention to what was happening again he saw himself going in the direction of a river. He walked as far from it as he could. He would not be tricked by it. He refused to become one more ghost to be forever suffering on it. Stupid tricks. Stupid burns. Stupid broken bones.
Would he be bleeding if he had a body? His injuries would be way better if he had a body. A body could heal. He could only be permanently in pain.
“Where are we going? Why are you following me?”
Amphithemis. Octavian had the same conversions with him over and over again. Some words changed, but the essence did not. It should be tiring. It was nice talking to someone. It was nice to be dragged out of his thoughts a little.
“You said we were leading me to a safe place to rest since the Giant was not in his cave.”
“He was not?! That is so weird he was always there! But don't you worry, we can find another safe place to rest. I feel light."
Light. Apollo.
His dream-self was wrong. Apollo didn’t abandon him. Amphithemis was the proof of it. Apollo would take care of all mistakes and he would finally leave Tartarus and be treated as the hero he was.
“I’m worried about him. I thought he was getting better, but after the talk he had with Percy and Annabeth…”
“It seems more likely that he was just bottling everything up and that was the last straw.”
Hazel nodded. Reyna was the few people who truly understood Nico and after everything that happened it was nice having her to talk about him because she honestly didn’t know what to do.
“Do you think we should give him space?”
“I don’t think being alone is the best for him right now.”
“But if we invited him to come, how would we help him?”
Reyna looked at Hazel and they just stared at each other without an answer.
“Maybe he will not help, he made his sentiments for his legacy very clear.”
“Then we need to find another person to help Nico.”
“Which demigod? And don’t you think the other gods would get mad at you? They need to perform good parenting from time to time and Nyx is too much for all of us.”
“Do you think they would mind if the demigod was already dead?”
It was weird to stand there looking at Michael Kahale. Last time Will saw the guy he probably was with a concussion and let his friend die. And now…
Everything on the field was dead. You would walk and walk and only see dead plants. Nico couldn’t care less. There was no place for guilt over this on him at the moment. There was no space for anything. He felt empty. He filled himself with void.
Bob.
Not only him, everything.

Just thought of something after seeing the injustice that is the Bionicle ending, and TW for themes of racism, amd just a heads-up that this is essentially me trying to do a justice and more pulling muscles while reaching, so bear with me:
So, during a period of recovery, the Matoran and Toa just take time to relax, to sit still, be calm, and not talk to anyone
It goes as well as you think because they end up being plagued with nightmares and they aren't sure how to deal with it
The Toa are especially taking it hard because what Teridax did to them has not gone away, or at least hasn't gone away fast enough, like it's steadily getting better. Whenua is still blind. Nokama still can't talk. Matau's state is deeper because he's feeling what Vakama feels. Onewa is still not all there. Nuju still can't understand anyone. Vakama is still in pain from what he's been through
It doesn't help that the Agori and Matoran don't really like each other, and that puts a strain on getting everyone rehabilitated, though the Glatorians are more open toward the Toa
To say the least, there's a lot of breaking up fights, a lot of arguing, and just hostility that leads numerous of the people to try and ignore each other and be ready to throw hands
Add to that the Vorox, the Baterra, the Bone Hunters, and Skrall, and people are just exhausted and close to just laying in bed forever and accepting that they might not live to see tomorrow
I will say that the Toa Nuva are active, and try to stay active, but this is more them working so they're not focusing on the events of the Destiny War or the Rein of Shadows, and it doesn't help that they'repossibly realizing that the way to end a fight is to end your opponent and they are trying to keep things peaceful, so there's that. The Toa Metru, namely, Nuju, Nokama, Vakama, and Matau, eventually join, wanting to get back into helping around even if no one cares
Onewa and Whenua are told to stay back, the Toa Mahri guarding them and making sure they're safe. Whenua is frustrated because he can still fight, sight loss be damned, but Onewa would rather wander for a second, his mind recovering enough to take in where he is. He's intrigued by the plant life, the animals, the people that don't see him, even a little scarabax that's missing his friend, so he joins Onewa
Also joining Onewa is Kiina, who's at first very vocal about seeing him alone, but slows her role when she sees she genuinely scares the hell out of him. She also points out that the scarabax belonged to a friend of hers, and she's glad to see Click(the scarabax) make a new friend
There's awkward silence, but Onewa walks toward a mountain, Kiina following so he doesn't get hurt. She finds him staring at the blank face of the mountain and she admits that it's literally just a mountain, that it's not something anyone wants to mess with because of rockslides
Onewa still stares at it and Kiina helps him back to where the Matoran and Toa made camp, the Toa Metru relieved to see their friend is alright. Kiina learns Onewa used to be a carver, an architect even, so maybe he was looking for something to work on. She tells everyone to stay safe and give them space, though Onewa and Click start messing with each other because they're bored
With the other Toa, they have little success in speedrunning a melding that Takanuva saw, but have bigger problems with the Vorox, the Marendar, and Baterra. While they're resting, Vakama goes to take care of it on his own, but he's followed by Jaller and Takanuva, who he lets tag along, just in case. All three are caught anyway by Tahu and have to be led back to where the others are because Vakama is/was the leader of the Matoran and really could be useful in keeping things civil. Takanuva, having his memory fully restored, could prove to be helpful by explaining more of what he knows and remembers to get the Agori to not hate him, and Jaller is still kind of a rookie and needs to stay safe
It's a tough pill to swallow for all three of the friends, only now they have time to actually breathe and get it out of their systems, which Jaller does because he's still processing that all three knew each other. When asked, Vakama reiterates he told the Matoran about Metru Nui as legends because that was easier than saying, "we used to be friends, and I gave up my power to get you out of what would have been an endless sleep that would have killed you. I lead you now." Jaller isn't concerned about the Metru Nui stuff, but is upset about Vakama not telling anyone about the events of Time Trap, and the time loop he put himself through
Vakama admits that he'd already put his friends in danger once, having gotten them mutated and almost killed, and didn't want them to suffer like that again because of him, not with the Matoran and their lives on the line
Jaller falls silent and Takanuva has said nothing this entire time, only watching the camp instead. Vakama asks if he's alright and Takanuva says he's fine, not wanting to hear what anyone has to say right now because he would rather make sure the Matorn and Agori get along. Jaller steps closer and sees that Takanuva is VERY not fine at all, as in he's distraught and trying not to break down in front of his friends
WEELL, no time because they hear clamoring and race out to see what they think is Whenua dragging Nokama away by the foot, but there's an issue: Whenua, who is still blind and wears a blid fold, is not wearing that blindfold and his eyes are different(I know the Baterra is supposed to be undetectable, but I imagine they don't have a full understanding of the Toa and their "Tells" for who's who)
Nokama breaks away and runs, trying to tell Vakama, Jaller, and Takanuva to not draw their weapons as they, naturally, draw their weapons. Luckily, though, with the Baterra distracted by three new disguises and targets, it's taken down by Gresh, who uses a mix of elemental powers and maybe hand to hand combat to get the job done. They're all shaken and stirred, but Vakama asks Nokama why they shouldn't draw their weapons, Nokama revealing that it's what got he nearly killed in the first place. Gresh isn't sure where they were or how they cane to be, but there's a cave Kiina goes to that has the history and science of Spherus Magna written on the walls, so that's an option they have
Nokama would like to go there, as she can possibly translate what's written, but Gresh politely asks that the Toa stay behind; they'll be easier to pick off if they're separated
Nokama does not, asking to talk to Kiina and see the cave, which Gresh ultimately agrees to. They rest up for the night, Vakama keeping watch, even though Jaller points out that he's making himself lose sleep again, and who devides to speak with Vakama but Raanu, who admits he's seen a lot of weird things in his time, but he wasn't expecting to see the Matoran and Toa again. Vakama's confused, but Raanu admits Vakama probably wouldn't remember; he would have already possibly been inside of the Great Spirit Robot by then
Vakama admits such and, being tured and not feeling his best, asks Raanu if he's here to tell the Toa and Matoran to get lost. Raanu is aghast and states he's actually here for some good old intel, to get to know the new inhabitants of the planet that's just been put back together again, and seeing as how they're all stuck in one place with no other planet to go to, better to stick together and get to know more about each other
Vakama agrees and asks where Raanu would like him to start, which Raanu decides on Vakama himeslf; he's led the Matoran for so long, weary leaders tend to recognize each other. Vakama admits he isn't much of a leader, and Raanu calls that another reason they could get along, because Ackar leads the Agori more than Raanu does. The two sit and spot a Matoran having a disagreement with an Agori before they part ways, and Vakama sighs that no matter what happens, there's always another fight to win, only now it's multiple at once. Raanu agrees and calls it the natural cycle of things; if life was peaceful, it'd be too easy
After some silence, Vakama starts to explain his life and being in Ta-Metru, though he does explain more about stuff beyond that
At a distance, a group of Matoran seeing the two talking and are on edge because Raanu could be setting Vakama up to be tricked, but also say that because the Agori have not been very welcoming
To be fair, the Matoran have been irritatable towards the Agori because of everything they've been through, with Rahkshi, Bohrak, and Vahki and being stuck inside of a giant robot that was bent on making them all suffer.
So, what the conflict between the Matoran and Agori is, is one side being wary from all they've experienced and being on edge because they don't want to deal something else they wants to kill them again, for the fifth or seventh time. The other side is also wary, having dealt with Bone hunters and Skrall, and they have some foggy memory of the Matoran and, last they remembered, the Matoran weren't sentient, so they're freaked the hell out
Either way, there is still conflict, but it's equally lowered and raised at seeing Vakama and Raanu talk and at seeing the Toa with the Glatorians

I HUNDRED percent blame R*ck and the rest of the series for this but I did not really just read a part of this book about how they weren’t sure if they would be safe to come out at a camp RUN BY A GREEK GOD FOR CHILDREN OF GREEK GODS CHILDREN. Then kids finally seeing that it was a safe space.
Like DIONYSUS runs this camp????????
But this really puts it into perspective that Nico was the only openly queer character in this series until TOA. And I remember people being nervous that Apollo wouldn’t even be canonically bisexual in it.

I’ve got the Percy Jackson brainrot but specifically about the original series. This is mostly based on how I thought after I finished the first series, concepts that always stuck in my head. Also I probably miss remember most of the series maybe some of this has been brought up in like TOA and other series I didn’t finish. I love all the new characters but I love nostalgia for old relationships kicking me in the gut with sadness so here:
I wish we had gotten to see more Beckendorf. I like that Percy had friends outside of Grover and Annabeth. I like the idea of them being close because it build Percy’s connection to camp and the people he fights for. And I makes it so much worse that someone that he was close to and cared was one of the early losses. I always thought of that as the moment that the reality hit.
Actually add onto that seeing Percy and Annabeth different relationships to Clarisse. We did have the short story with the chariot and I remember loving it so I wish we got more.
Plus I know she had a crush but I thought Percy and Rachel were close. I liked their dynamic as friends, it was funny and sweet and generally I love them being close and sharing their struggles with everything going on while having had a connection not fully built from thinking they’re going to die.
Also I think he was friends/friendly? with the stolls but might have made that up. I think Percy being friends with Hermes cabin is interesting. Not just bc of Luke but also bc he’s just by himself alone in his cabin and Hermes was such a loud and chaotic cabin I think he’d enjoy that difference. Plus he could offer them a space away from the overcrowding.
Basically more older camper friendships especially after all they went through. I remember always being disappointed how things turned out with Nico and Percy, I know it was difficult for Nico but I had it in my head that Percy would look out for him?
I had built up the idea of the big three kids, they may not be best friends but they were close in that they could understand each others struggles. That even after Thalia became a hunter she would be close. I loved the short story with Bob the Titan specifically bc they teamed up and it was always an interesting dynamic.
Basically the older groups relationship were really interesting and I wish they could interact more or talk about the past more beyond ‘hey you remember when we killed that bad guy’.

ON  ABANDONMENT  ,  TRUST  ,  AND  COMMITMENT  ,
hey. it’s me. let’s unpack this baggage. same warnings as the overall warnings of this blog apply.. familial death mostly. sprinkled with other death. post contains toa spoilers
alright let’s start with the obvious: bianca. coming out of the lotus hotel was nothing short of heavily disorienting. he had only bianca to rely on & didn’t remember anything at all of his family otherwise. put into some random boarding school where he could obviously see that things weren’t right and had monsters posing as teachers. he trusted bianca and nothing and no one else.
then in comes percy and the hunters to the rescue and his mind is completely blown. he’s too naïve to not trust these people. even when bianca almost immediately oaths into the hunters, he doesn’t care because this new world is too damn cool to care about little things like that.
it’s not until bianca’s chosen to go on the quest that he starts feeling that sense of abandonment. he’s stuck in a year that just doesn’t feel right, talking in a language that’s still somewhat difficult for him, told that he’s a demigod, and his sister his only family the only kind face he knows ... abandons him to go across the country in search of a person that he doesn’t even know. he’s stuck at chb and even though he’s surrounded by things that should be cool, it sucks because he doesn’t have bianca to share it with. but whatever. it’s fine! bianca will be back.
except she doesn’t come back. he feels her die and percy’s confirmation destroys him. percy, the guy that nico trusted because he’d saved them, broke his promise to keep bianca safe. he doesn’t trust percy or the camp or the gods. all he can trust is himself. he has to live with the truth that bianca abandoned him to join the hunters without even knowing what she was getting into and that he is on his own from now on.
he’s reluctant to get close to anyone else from that point forward, even after tlo, he’s reclusive and isolates himself. doesn’t stay at camp for longer than a week right after the war because there is no space for him and honestly? whatever. he’s fine with that. if no one there trusts him, then he doesn’t trust them either. the further he keeps everyone from himself, the easier it is to not get attached (coughs. commit to a friendship) and the less likely he is to get abandoned again. he cannot take another hit to him like bianca’s death.
he takes a risk with hazel, a calculated but necessary risk. after all, she is his sister. nico’s inclined to trust her immediately, and he appreciates having someone around anyway. the first time in years he’s allowed himself to get attached, and it’s good. it feels nice. he can’t let himself do this again.
when the seven rescue him from the twin giants, he trusts only hazel. for a while he talks solely to her other than to give advice/knowledge to the crew when needed. he’s exhausted and unwell and cannot afford to extend more than just the basic amount of ‘hazel trusts you so i trust you i guess’ level of trust. besides, they don’t trust him at all either. it’s a mutual thing.
anddddddddddddddd then the cupid thing happens. it’s terrible. it’s awful and jason is there to witness it all. he has to trust jason on default, because if he doesn’t, then nico’ll be burying himself.
the trust he has with jason grows, and arguably jason becomes one of his closer friends on the argo ii. yay. friendship <3
reyna !! we love u reyna. (am ignoring that she joins the hunters bc its stupid) he trusts her as much as he trusts hazel. they went through a harrowing journey together you just dont come back from that without committing to a strong friendship. he literally killed for her. he trusts her and trusts that she won’t abandon him but it’s hard.
thennnnnnnn jason dies. nico can argue that jason abandoned him all he wants but that wasn’t abandonment. jason had highschool to finish in california and it simply couldnt have gone any other way. when jason dies, the wound that was left when bianca left is reopened.
conclusions: major abandonment issues. god forbid your muse is friends with nico and then they have to leave for an extended period of time without communication for some reason and then they show up again. nico’s gonna give them hell. it won’t be pretty it won’t be nice he’s going to be upset and childish about it no matter the circumstance. it’s a major character flaw but he’s working on it. maybe.
further conclusions: re: romantic relationships. good fucking luck. it’s gotta be a 3 year slow burn at least. trying to get him to trust anyone like that is very difficult. he’d try though. maybe. it’ll be hell on his end.
further further conclusions: he’s the kind of person to leave before he gets attached in any sense of the word in the first place. oh ? you’re a friend? uhhh too bad you’re not going to see him for a solid 3 months he’s gods know where. leaving first as soon as he realizes he can trust someone so that they cant abandon him >>>
EDIT 11/18/22 - i want to make it incredibly clear that i do not condone or support the way nico rationalizes his anger and uses his grief. i thought it was obvious but it’s clearly not so here. it’s incredibly unhealthy and very selfish but it’s also a primary character flaw. thus is life. he’s working on it and that’s all we can hope for.

Since we’re talking about PJO again, here’s a thing that bothers me a bit about Camp Half Blood Confidential
Or actually, just Annabeth’s short story really.
(Pls don’t take this super seriously it’s just a little pet peeve thing of mine that I’ve never seen anyone talk about)
A quick recap of Annabeth’s short story: the problem is that the new cabins for the minor gods are taking up a lot of room, and they might actually run out of space for new cabins. Annabeth is tasked with fixing that. She designs tiny homes with customizable and transformable everything, space for four people, and sanitary facilities included.
Chiron mentions that while they’re great, the minor gods probably won’t really appreciate having cabins that are smaller than those of the Olympians. (Annabeth internally buries her head in her hands because oh shit she was so caught up in the project that she didn’t even consider that).
Chiron notices that Annabeth’s 4 tiny homes have wheels and slanted roofs, and pushes them together to form one cabin about the size of a normal one, and this seems to fix things. Sanitation in the cabin itself, movable and adjustable, and it can house more people than the normal cabins with more individual privacy.
Perfect, right? Right?
This is where my issues begin.
First of all - the tiny houses combined form a cabin about the size of one of the normal cabins. Then that doesn’t fix the problem, does it? It STILL takes just as much space as before! They’re just able to be moved around and arranged now! Which yes, might save a little bit of space, but not nearly enough!!!
Second of all - I don’t remember if the amount of beds in a normal cabin gets mentioned in any of the PJO or HOO books (outside of the Hermes cabin, but that’s an obvious outlier and shouldn’t be counted), but Trials of Apollo mentions that the Apollo cabin has space for 20 people. So the new cabins canonically do not have more space for campers than the normal cabins do! In fact, they have less!
(This was not retconned from CHBC to TOA either; Hidden Oracle came out before CHBC and CHBC mentions plot points and locations from TOA)
Also last small thing but Lost Hero establishes that at the very least the Aphrodite cabin has their own sanitation already. Drew pulls a kid out of a shower with shampoo still in their hair iirc. So I don’t know if it’s just the Aphrodite cabin that got “having their own shower” rights and the rest of the camp has to share communal ones or???
Anyways yeah thanks for listening to my little pet peeve complaint about a companion book :)

Blog 5 – A break in the countryside of Castilla La Mancha whilst the Government of the UK implodes
After our whistle stop tour of the cities of Burgos, Salamanca, Avila, Segovia and Toledo, Jo and I decided that we were “citied out” and what we really needed was some down time away from large urban areas. We wanted to be somewhere with a bit of space – space to walk and cycle.
Looking on the search4sites and park4night apps we discovered that campsites were fairly scarce in central Spain, so we started a week of staying on the rather excellent network of Aires run by the Province of Ciudad Real, in the region of Castilla La Mancha, in the heart of Spain.
Our first stop was the village of Retuerta del Bullaque about an hours’ drive from Toldeo, located on the edge of the Parque Nacional Cabaneros. The village was clearly a working village, with a population of just under a thousand but it had everything you needed, a stark contrast to similar size place in the UK. The Aire itself was totally automated - payment and ID was required before the gates would open. The Aire was fully serviced and we shared it that night with 4 Spanish motorhomes. After a stroll around the village in the late afternoon and a drink or two at one of the bars we had an early night to prepare ourselves for a nice long walk in the morning.
Tumblr media
Toa, Toa, Toa parked up at the Retuerta del Bullaque Aire
The walk the next day was interesting, through a rolling landscape in the foothills of the National Park, with a mix of plantations of cork oak trees, vines and olive trees and the occasional field containing livestock – predominantly sheep but some cattle too. The ground was very dry and incredibly rocky. Using an ariel photograph of the route to navigate by (I had yet to master navigating using the Wikiloc app at that stage) we managed to get a little lost and our 12-mile walk turned into a 15 mile walk on a hot and sunny Sunday – fortunately we’d taken enough water with us. We returned to the Aire having missed our check out time, so decided to stop for another night.

The next day we moved on to Alcoba, which required a drive of about an hour through the hills and forests of the National Park. Those of you who know Jo well will realise that a drive on twisty, mountainous roads is not her favourite and the road surface wasn’t the best. However, the scenery was spectacular and Jo just about survived!!!
We arrived at Alcoba and decided to wild camp in an area of parkland beside the municipal swimming pool (closed for the winter) and enjoyed a quiet night. Alcoba is a small working village with a population of around 500 and the village contained the usual mix of bars, restaurants, shops and banks but on the Monday and Tuesday that we were there, very little was open. On the Tuesday morning after a 5k jog to warm up we moved Toa, Toa, Toa into the Aire in the village and went off on another walk – this time around 12 miles but it included a sharp climb at the start to reach the hilltop above the village which gave stunning views of the valley and the surrounding tree covered hills. After descending the hill, the remainder of the walk was fairly flat walking alongside olive groves and the occasional field containing livestock (mainly sheep). Alcoba has one fairly major claim to fame, it was discovered that a large rock (apparently used by the locals to sharpen their knives) was in fact a fairly sizeable meteorite. You can see the statute commemorating this which contains a full-size replica of the meteorite, below.

The next day we moved on, stopping off at Ciudad Real to stock up and to get diesel at a garage where we only had millimetres to spare on exit but managed it - phew. We then moved onto Villanueva de Los Infantes a larger village with a population of just under 6,000 people, staying at another one of the Province’s Aires. Villanueva de Los Infantes is a stunningly beautiful village whose centre is crammed full of historic grand houses, churches and convents and a very grand Plaza Major. It also has a major role in Spanish history, in that Don Quixote (in the book written by Cervantes) started his epic journey in the village. The town is also the birth and final resting place of Francisco de Quevedo, an equally important figure in Spanish literature. The village was bustling with bars, restaurants, hotels, banks and all types of shops. We spent 2 days and nights in the village, including a tour of the Casa de Los Estudios (which is now an artisan produce shop). Leaving the automated Aire during a heavy downpour was a challenge, as it wouldn’t let us out and the emergency number given called the local police to help but thankfully, before they arrived we managed to get hold of the right person who kindly let us out.

We decided we’d spend one more night on a Provincial Aire before moving onto a campsite – to enable us to do some washing. We selected at random the village of Viso del Marquis, another village with a population of 2,500. The village was where the Marquis of Santa Cruz (the creator of the idea of the Spanish Armada) built his palace – a rather ugly building which contains the National Archive of the Spanish Navy. We had a great meal that evening in Bar Mi Cortijo, the tapas you’re given with your drink were the finest we’ve come across to date and the plate of chipirones we were served were lovely – so if you’re ever in town we’d recommend that you eat there.

We thought we would end this edition of the blog with some observations.
First is that Castilla La Mancha felt like real Spain and a massive contrast to the affluent tourist ridden cities. We really enjoyed it and we will return to explore more.  Life here seemed simple and idyllic but what was very obvious was the aging population in these rural communities (same the world over) and one worries about the sustainability of these communities in the long term.
Second, Castilla La Mancha covers a vast area within central Spain but contains very few campsites. There are plenty of places where motorhome owners can wild camp, but relatively few places where motorhome owners can empty their waste tanks and fill up with fresh water. This is why the network of Aires established by the Province of Ciudad Real were brilliant and is well worth replicating by councils in many parts of the UK.
The third observation is that it would appear to us that Spain is a far more community focused society than the UK. While there would appear to be as many community groups who undertake a range of activities organised by church, sporting clubs etc, as there are in the UK, the Spanish would appear to socialise in larger groups, seen in bars, cafeterias and restaurants - loud animated conversations and lots of fun and laughter. The cafes and bars seem to support the ability of the community to socialize.
Fourth, is that whilst we are unsure whether it’s just a feature of the landscape of Castilla La Mancha but farmers wouldn’t appear to live on their land, they live in the nearest town or village and travel out to their land to work. This tends to mean that small villages have a greater concentration of people living within them, are more economically viable and therefore contain a range of businesses and this gives the countryside a very different feel to the UK.
The fifth and final observation is that sporting facilities and facilities for young people are infinitely better than those available to young people in the UK. Each village would have a swimming pool, football pitches and in most cases tennis courts. In all communities there are excellent play facilities for children, which are well used and in excellent condition.
It was whilst we were enjoying ourselves in Castilla La Mancha that the Government of Liz Truss imploded, shortly after the short-lived Chancellor announced a series of tax cuts, funded by additional borrowing. It is strange watching your nation become the laughing stock of Europe from afar – with coverage of the going-on’s in Downing Street being shown live on TVs in bars. I was frankly staggered that it all fell apart so quickly, although Jo’s guess was far closer than mine - the actual day it happened (so she says). Her short-lived tenure in Downing Street had a catastrophic impact on public finances but an equally destructive impact on my SIPP (private pension) reducing its value by about 12%. Thanks for that Liz and the idiots in the Tory Party who elected her.

i’m really really hoping that the solangelo book doesn’t actually happen in tartarus, that it’s a red herring and the actual plot will b more interesting. iirc i think glassamphibians did a post abt this, but yeah the tartarus concept just doesn’t make much sense thematically and feels kind of played out? especially when there r so many better premises to explore nico’s character and their relationship. that being said, do you have any ideas for what you want from the nico book, both in terms of narrative and like character developments and ideas? im hoping we get some kind of insight into nico and hades’s relationship, maybe some info about his life before the lotus casino, and altogether a hopeful trajectory for him and will bc they rlly do deserve a happy ending. btw i love ur fics and i think ur interpretations and analyses are super interesting, thank u for writing! <3
I'm actually working on a Tartarus quest fic that has a bit of a twist in it because I, too, don't want that happening so I figured I'd write what I want to see from that quest, but know will never happen (my personal aim is to get it finished and published before the book is released, but that's dependant on my muses getting themselves in gear and not getting distracted all the time...)
As for what I want from this book, in an ideal world and completely disregarding anything we've had hinted so far by Mark or Rick:
Will-centric. Nico is a great character and I do love him, but we've had a lot of Nico so far in terms in character exploration, even though he's never technically been a main character. We've had Nico's development from the happy, bubbly kid at Westover to the loss of Bianca and his subsequent grief-fuelled bad decisions/manipulation by Minos, to him coming back to help the camp despite not feeling welcome there, to coming to terms with his sexuality and being outed (then, presumably, coming out within camp on his own terms), to finally feeling like he belongs in camp, with actual friends and going through therapy. Like, Nico's character has been through a more major arc than most, if not arguably all of the other characters. Just let him rest and be happy now, please. Will, on the other hand is largely unknown, has buckets of trauma we've never seen addressed so we don't know how he's handling it (or if he's handling it), and has a lot of space for a visible character arc. At best, the next extension of Nico's character arc would be him learning to be the support for someone else, which would also tie in with a Will-centric arc.
Apollo making sure he's involved. Whatever the plot is, if Apollo doesn't hover around trying to protect as many demigods as he can get away with, we're looking at a major characterisation assassination here. Apollo has to stick his head in somehow or other, preferably being a good parent to Will. More Apollo&Will bonding time would certainly not go amiss. As I've also said in an earlier analysis, Apollo is an intrinsic part of the Solangelo relationship, and ignoring both that and him just doesn't make any sense at all.
Slice of life at camp. I want to see what camp is like when there isn't a disaster breathing down their necks. I want to see who else Nico and Will are friends with, I want to see them all ribbing each other and having a lot of fun in the camp activities. I want to see how the infirmary operates and what, exactly, Will does in there. I want to meet other campers and get to know them a little bit more!
More healthy Solangelo. I'm being a little petty here, but I want to see enough healthy Solangelo (just like in TOA, but an entire book of it rather than occasional scenes between side characters) until everyone who writes them as a toxic relationship (aka Will as Nico's Sunshine Therapist Boyfriend) can no longer claim they're writing a canon relationship, because I am incredibly sick and tired of seeing that take everywhere when TOA itself disputes it.
In terms of a plot, what I actually want is pre-TOA Solangelo. That's where I think it'd be most interesting - the development of their relationship and how it got from basically-strangers in BOO to boyfriends by THO. There's entire stories in there, and I want to know what happened. Obviously, however, that isn't happening, so I'm a little at a loss on what I want, beyond something that the two of them face together (and doesn't threaten to tear them apart/damage their relationship for the sake of ~drama~ because that is both the most common and most boring trope in romance stories ever). Preferably one that isn't suicidal like Tartarus.
And in terms of character development... again, I want a focus on Will because we've already had Nico's arc. Will having to face his fears, or his fatal flaw (or both) and being supported through it by Nico, learning that he doesn't have to do everything alone/doesn't have to always be in charge, while Nico gets even more used to the idea of helping someone else and improving his own self-worth.
For those points you brought up specifically - I feel like Nico&Hades we have a pretty decent handle on at this point, but I would not say no to more parent-child bonding in general. Nico's life pre-Lotus hotel is obliterated by the Lethe so while that could come back if they go near the Mnemosyne, I don't actually want that because, again, Nico's already had a lot of character arc time and I feel like focusing on him when we have a mostly-untapped side-character who's supposed to be of equal standing in this quest (or had better be, as he's his boyfriend) would be bad writing, quite frankly, and blatant favouritism from the authors. It would be interesting to give Nico a little more memory back, but I don't want it here. He can get that back when he dies, like Bianca did.
A hopeful trajectory for Solangelo at the end is a must, though. If it's anything other than the implication that these boys are going to be together forever, and not even death is gonna break them apart (implication, not both of them dying and the story ending with them both in Elysium!), then what's even the point?
