Hi! Wanting to make a mention about testosterone gel real quick:
If it already works for you, at least a bit, there are things that can be done to make it absorb better. The most common things I've seen is applying it right after taking a hot shower (something about the heat dilating blood vessels close to the skin) and using lotion on the area you apply it (decreases skin's hydrophobia (in the sense of "water repellent") so more stuff gets through the barrier), although I've also heard that stuff like exfoliating the area to remove excess dead skin cells can also help. (Also, only putting the gel where you're instructed to put it. That's a big thing)
i've actually heard about the lotion thing! i was curious about what the effects of that were, thank you for laying that out, i really appreciate that! i remember watching a video of a guy putting on his gel after a shower with lotion like that and it made me curious
and yes, thank you- applying the gel in the appropriate area is huge! there's a reason the informational slip that comes with the gel highlights where to apply it, it absorbs best in those areas (usually the abdomen and upper arms)
thank you for this, i really appreciate it! i hope this can help some folks taking topical testosterone!

screw the billionaires who say that they're "self-made men". Like... No??? Trans men are self-made men, you're just rich.

I've seen some trans people really resistant to the notion that transition may change how you experience your sexuality, and while, yes, not everybody has shifted feelings for their sexuality, some of us do, and I want to talk about it.
I think for some of us, being able to transition how we want/need to is an important step in the exploration of our sexualities. As I have settled into a body that feels like home, I'm much more willing to truly discover how I feel. I remember pre-transition, I felt like I had something to prove to the world - like I was a less worthy man because I'm trans. It lead to a lot of self-hatred for my sexuality. Being able to transition was the moment which I felt like I didn't have to prove anything to anybody because I realized how worthy I am. I still have a lot of internalized issues with how transness and sexuality play into each other, but I am in a better headspace to explore this.
Your sexuality may not change during transition, and that's great! Just know that even if it does, you are still worthy. It's okay to have shifting feelings and desires. It is not a bad thing.

The more I think about it the more I really feel like the recently coined term mesosex might fit me and it's been shared by several intersex education/advocacy blogs I follow now so I know there's support for the term but I'm still like. Scared I would be Intruding™ on intersex issues if I started using it. Like I mean. I'm an afab & (afaik) perisex person with a reproductive disorder that's likely caused by a (non-intersex) hormone imbalance which I'm now essentially having to take feminizing HRT to fix, and as a result I'm now growing tits and undergoing female-pattern fat redistribution at the age of 25 after years of having little to no secondary sex characteristics. I've always identified with intersex issues but now that I'm essentially having to undergo HRT to make my body match my asab that connection to intersex issues feels even stronger. And like that's what the term is for. But my anxiety is still like "but what if you're intruding tho" lol 🙃
#rambling#for the curious the specific disorder is endometriosis and recent research has shown that endo is most likely linked to#estrogen dominance which is where either your body makes too much estrogen OR not enough other hormones (progesterone & testosterone)#and given that the only thing that has helped me at all has been going on full progestin-only treatments#and the fact that everything ive researched about estrogen dominance and low progesterone matches up with my symptoms#it definitely seems like low/no progesterone is the issue for me#(although the docs didnt test my levels beforehand and now i cant get them tested unless i want to go off treatments 🥲)#and like. this progestin treatment has changed my fucking life. legitimately#like it didnt just stop my (pretty severe) endo it also fixed like. all of my physical health issues. stuff i didnt even know was related#dont wanna get off topic talking about my other health issues but. going on progestin has easily been the best health thing to happen to me#but it also feels so fucking weird to be going through the same type of changes that like transfems go through on hrt essentially#as an afab perisex person. its not a bad weird but like its just a strange phenomenon and it would be nice to put words to it i guess?#like im a person who has lived the last 10+ years disabled by a reproductive disorder that prevented my body from developing 'normally'#and now im going through feminizing hrt at the age of 25 to fix my reproductive disorder#thats not exactly like. the normal perisex afab experience lol. but at the same time my specific reproductive disorder and hormone imbalance#dont classify me as intersex (no hyperandrogenism just some mix of too much estrogen/not enough progesterone or testosterone#typical anatomy (afaik) aside from the uterine abnormalities resulting from endometriosis)#and its just. such a weird position to be in. i share a lot of common ground with intersex issues but im not intersex myself#and the whole purpose of mesosex was to create a word for people who arent quite either. 'people who identify with but not as intersex'#and i think that describes me. but also like.... do i count?? 😭#tmi#request to tag

Being trans and not liking change/needing to adapt to change slowly and with knowing exactly what’ll happen is. Fun.

i (trans man, havent been on t very long) had a coworker who turned out to be trans but he just passed v well bc he'd been medically transitioning for decades and i only found out when he asked me abt what form of t i take and when i said injections he was like "ugh i hate needles i have to have my roommate do it for me" and i (idiot) went "oh do you take insulin or smth?" and he responded REAL QUICK w "no, testosterone, stay on topic" like. thts just how he came out to me.
anyway i think this is how billy interacts w other trans folks
“No, testosterone, stay on topic” <- 10/10
This is EXACTLY how Billy is interacting with other trans folks lmao, and it’s fucking great tbh. He doesn’t even come out he just waits for you to catch up.
Same thing with gay ppl-
Older Billy: “That’s so fucking gay.”
Gay person: “Hey that’s homopho-”
Older Billy: “What’s homophobic is the fact that my boyfriend keeps trying to fuck me with a rainbow dildo. I contain multitudes, catch up.”
(Also YO this is so smooth holy shit, I wish this was me. Thanks for sharing!)

the timing on this is pretty funny ngl, I've been hearing a lot from people who take topical T lately, and after talking to an endocrinologist, I've been changed to a new formulation and schedule for taking my T! pretty wild, but excited to try it out! my old dose was way too low anyway

The gender debate is kind of funny when conservatives are like “um actually chromosomes are your gender checkmate liberals” when like 10 years ago house had an episode on an intersex woman who had xy chromosomes and it was just so matter of fact about it

how old were you when you started testosterone? i want to start before i’m 18 so i don’t have to deal with that while applying to/starting college. i want to have it all figured out by the time i leave home. i thought 16 would be a good age because i also want to start while i’m in high school so i can catch up to the other boys and pass better. but my mom has been reading studies and she says it interrupts brain development and doesn’t want me starting hormones until i’m at least 18. but i don’t know if i can make it that long and i really don’t want to have to wait.
I started when I was an adult since it can be simpler, so I don't know on that end if it will be easy for you.
However, it is odd to me to say it will interrupt brain development as though hormones can stop your brain's development. Your brain will still develop, and indeed, it will continue to do so even after you are over eighteen. I won't contest that hormones might alter your brain in the way it responds to stimuli, but it won't be stunted. Like... you've already got testosterone in your body, and what HRT does it raise those levels to what is more "typical" as if you were a cisgender, perisex (i.e., not intersex) man.
Here's a 2020 metastudy I found about this if you want to read on your own, which includes studies done on those seeking both testosterone and estrogen treatment.
Much of these discussions are hindered by small sample sizes. However, with data, it seems as though hormone treatment isn't drastically reducing cognitive abilities, as much as I've seen people act as though it does. Your brain will continue to develop well after any puberty because that's what brains do. Hormones can surely influence your brain, but it is not like it will kill it.
