#trending watches for women

Remembering when there was so much praise amongst both viewers and the press for One Night (especially Jodie Whittaker’s performance) particularly for how it handled complex relationships between women, between women and their bodies, etc. and then Paramount Plus was like, ‘fuck that, we don’t care’ and now you can’t watch it anywhere because they just removed it. I really hope it can find a new home because these kinds of stories are so important especially when executed with so much care and nuance as One Night.

Hi! As someone who now kinda wants to check out Trigun because of the hype, do you recommend that I can start with Stampede? Or do I really need to watch the OG anime first to better understand/enjoy it? Thank you! 🙋🏻‍♀️
you can start with stampede! i'd say knowing the context of the original enhances the experience but isn't necessary to enjoy the show. I would consider stampede more viewer-friendly, especially for those of us who are used to modern storytelling conventions (the original suffers the consequences of general writing trends in anime at the time it was produced and of the fact that it was produced long before the manga was finished, so the story is somewhat disjointed and has a lot of filler which makes it REALLY hard to get into.) if you do end up liking stampede, however, I'd suggest trying out watching at least SOME of the original because it adds a lot of cool nuance and context to the story that stampede tells!
#your only REAL handicap is that you're missing out on references that clue you into the context of the story early on#and quite a few references in the finale. but none of those references are hugely necessary to understand the plot so you should be fine!#i didn't DISLIKE the origial and like i said im glad i watched it first but it was. REALLY hard to get into.#even as someone who understands writing trends & enjoys a lot of older anime trigun is. a product of its time.#there's almost no context given for the story you're witnessing until a good 20 episodes in.#the main villain isn't named at all until halfway through the runtime#and even TWO EPISODES BEFORE THE FINALE i still did not have enough information to fully understand what the hell was going on#vash was going into the final fucking battle and i still didn't know what knives WAS let alone what the fuck he WANTED#not to mention nick was FULLY DEAD and i still didnt know what his deal was. like ok go off king have ur moment bleeding out in the church#but can you EXPLAIN WHATS GOING ON BEFORE YOU SUCCUMB TO THE BLOOD LOSS PLEASEEEEEEEE GOD#stampede does that whole thing WAY better imo. it sprinkles the backstory more naturally throughout the show#again. part of this is 90s writing conventions. but there's only so much i can take fr#it was like comparable to evangelion in terms of LACK OF CONTEXT#anyways. this isnt supposed to be me complaining about the original. it had its moments. i watched 24 episodes of it like it was not BAD#but like. i think the story really benefits from the way that stampede chooses to lay everything out. is what im saying.#tldr watch them in whatever order but if you like stampede try the original#you might not like it more than stampede but you WILL feel cool when you realize how it all relates to stampede#asks#vash is also WAAAAAY sexier in stampede. HOWEVER. the women of the show are like 10 times sexier in the original. so. pick your poison ig

"cultural analysis" youtubers read something that isn't a medium/vouge/vox op-ed as research challange
#creating a new aesthetic called echo chamber core#edit. started thinking about it and actually i think my head died during the aesthetics vs subculture vid why did i watch that.#the bizzare way it ostensibly sets out to critique subcultures reduction to “fashion” or whatever while entirely reducing the concept of#subculture to fashion throughout the video. the seemingly willful misunderstanding of subculture studies origins to make a cheap crack#about 1920s cultural studies “not being interested in women” (also: not true).#the fact that its a 40 minute long video on aesthetics that never once mentions nazism but has a shout out to cottagecore being a positive#new subcultural group.#the annoyance at calling light blue nails “blueberry milk nails” as a “trendy signifier” when that type of naming is exactly like whats#on an actual nail polish bottle. just. the level of internet brain that is unble to fathom subcultures still existing outside the internet#or the idea that fashion isn't always the primary expression of subculture.#the circular fashion brained argument that “how you dress can no longer be counter cultural or revolutionary because everyone can buy a#shein dupe miu miu skirt now"#while acknowledging that working class brittish people's participation in subculture (for instance)#did not improve their financial or social situation#but at the same time not mentioning the arguably inherent fashion marketing origins of punk fashion.#the insistence on constantly citing one single person of origin for internet trends.#the reoccurring narrative of claimed “deeper capitalist critiquing“ fashion movements being ”co-opted“ and appropriated as#”less deep“ fashion marketing trends by big fashion inc. as if that kind of#posture of anticapitalist agenda and confusing pseudo intellectualism (health goth manifesto) isn't commonly occuring in fashion marketing.#like people dont walk down fashion week runways wearing tulle maxi dresses spelling “fuck capitalism”.#or žižek didn't write copy for an a&f mag#recuperation 101

I know that film analysis on YouTube has always been pretty bad, but I'm irked that one of the big trends for obnoxious hack YouTubers right now is to find a bad movie and then show a bunch of clips while doing the worst and most shallow observational comedy. There are a few YouTubers who do a lot of interesting or funny reviews of poorly made movies, but you can tell with them that they actually care about the art of film making. They pay attention to the plot and don't misrepresent how bad the movie is because they paid enough attention to have something clever to say. I love movie reviews and I enjoy videos that exist to make a bunch of observational jokes about movies. Which is why I'm upset that a million of the unfunniest and least creative people in the world are jumping on the bandwagon and clogging my recommendations. There's no passion in it. You can feel the cynicism oozing from this kind of video within seconds of it starting. I hate it.

And yes, I'm proud to be Black and there's nothing wrong with that. I love how radiant, soft and delicate my melanated skin looks like and how it seems to glow when it's being sun kissed. I love how I can pull off pastels, white and other soft feminine bright colors and how they beautifully contrast with my skin. I love how my melanin absorbs the sun so well that my skin always looks plump and makes me looks effortlessly youthful. I love having lips. I also love how my hair looks like a cloud : soft and fluffy, and grows upwards towards the Heavens instead of downwards (towards hell). God made our hair so unique & heavenly - no other race has it. We truly are so special. My skin color and my hair are so beautiful and I see no shame in that.

I've been really into watching feminist video essays lately (I'm training my attention span by watching content I'm actually interested in) so if anyone has any other video essay recommendations, please send them to me (DM or replies, either way is fine <3).

Feeling rage at the state of everything on earth and wanting to kill every single corporate behind it again
It's all fucking money, oppression, societal ruling systems and the belief that you have to earn the right to even live. No one wants to follow the roots that made this happen, it's all ignored or made into a temporary fad to be forgotten
How much change can we make when those unmaking those changes persist in existing? How long is the stupid back-and-forth battle going to last?
It's not fair that so many people are left to die and be erased because they aren't the 'perfect white family' standard when that standard doesn't even exist nor should any fucking standard that gates people from their right to be alive.
The mere concept of earning the right to do anything like eat, sleep, breathe, being housed, being able to bathe and just to be comfortable is fucking stupid.
UGHHH my head hurts

TW// MENTIONS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT
How unsurprising that fans who defended their favorite diluted-porn boy's love series for rewarding a character who commits SA also did not bat an eye when a fan-favorite actor from said show is discovered to have been a real life misogynist and fucking r*pe apologist.
Just because you think he has a cute and innocent face, doesn't change the fact that Build, in his twenties, was slutshaming women for the way they dressed and actively contributed to r*pe culture by criticizing women who spoke out against SA basically saying, "What do women who dress like that expect to happen?" and outright says to a male victim of SA (my own rephrasing here but the message is the same) "Why don't you turn your experience into a positive? You might like it." The Fuck???
He may have very well changed (we can never be sure because we don't know these people personally), but that doesn't automatically earn him people's trust. Build fans right now are adamantly screaming, "Forgiveness! He was only 20-21 at the time, how could he know better?! Everyone make mistakes or else we're not human!"
No, a mistake is trying to draw a circle but the two ends don't meet. Replying to a victim of SA while also using homophobic language is, at that point, a bit of a fucking character trait don't you think? That cannot easily be undone.
Anyways, these are the translations of his old social media posts, along with the apology he just recently posted.
