Oh man...I just came across one of the cutest Bo Burnham-related videos EVER 👀
youtube
This theater group from Santa Clarita, CA did the most fun rendition of Bo's songs that I've seen in a LONG time. It includes everything kid-appropriate from Content to All Eyes On Me (switching out "shit" with "rip" actually works beautifully and I wish I'd thought of it for my lullaby version to my son haha)!
The group also does some of Social Brand Consultant (Who ARE you, Bagel Bites?) and even ATL—really a great mix. And their acting is fantastic!
If you're interested in more child-friendly Bo content or just want to enjoy his stuff without his trademark cussing, I have two articles that might be up your alley: my kid-appropriate playlist and Egghead poems that can be placed next to those by Jack Prelutsky or Shel Silverstein and not cause a fuss.
I hope you enjoy the video, and keep it here for more comedy fun! ✌🏼🐔

may not be the same design garbage scow but fuck it I'll take it as tacit acknowledgement that Soldier (1998) kind of exists in the Blade Runner universe.

I finally watched Treasure Planet tonight
Tumblr media
How and why did I go so long without seeing this movie?!
There are some really epic scenes in this!
I will say the pacing gets a bit slow sometimes imo...But it picks up after the 30 min mark.
Also why is there not a modern plush of morph??? For shame Disney.

during its apartheid years, south africa had one of the strictest media controls in the world. this extended into homes when television was introduced in the country in 1977 (which the government had delayed until that year due to fears of "undue influence"), and when home video came along with it. each videotape that was legally distributed during these years was required to have a notice in the official languages of english and afrikaans that it complied with media censorship laws codified years prior.
(the model for the certificate was likely influenced by the british board of film classification's. by the beginning of the 20th century, the british had brought the template with them to south africa and other former colonies such as india. south africa was probably the only country to use it on home releases.)
this meant that south africans who watched "legal" videotaped movies not only had to sit through commercials and a standard-issue anti-piracy warning, but a federal confirmation that the film didn't feature an interracial couple, among many other things. the total time for the two warnings could reach up to two minutes long - for comparison, the chorus of "oops i did it again" by britney spears is twenty seconds long - but some were rushed through.
this example was taken from a tape of disney's snow white and the seven dwarfs published in 1994, the year apartheid ended. the media censorship laws which required the certificate would be overhauled two years later, though video openings remained similar for a while after.

its important to watch a new movie or read a new book sometimes. largely because 1) its nice to experience all the art this world has to offer but also 2) you might be able to find new scenarios to imagine your OCs in
#it gets the cogs turning if ur imaginary scenarios get stale#wait did anyone else do this. when i was a kid i played with my toys in the very storytelling heavy style#like every toy was a character type thing. ten million large spanning melodramatic stories of epic proportions with my littlest pet shops#like that was the type of play i liked. and i would#sit in front of the TV with whatever playing half watching cartoons#or watching some kids movie on vhs borrowed from the library back when they still had tapes#and the whole time i would be playing with my toys. seeming more engrossed in the story among my toys than the movie i was watching#but i WAS watching the movie i was just using it largely as a. jumping off point. to make up stories about like#my lps cat who can see ghosts and her search for her long lost twin sister or something#Oh god and when i was a little older like 10 years old making ms paint animations age#whenever i was watching a movie with like famiy or in class or whatever and maybe it was a little boring at parts#i would like. start focusing on the score only and just imagine my own sparklewolf OCs to it instead of paying attention#my dad often fondly remembers watching avatar in theatres with the whole family and looking over to me and seeing me mentally GONE hfkjdfhs#mother and older brother were pretty engrossed with the effects and visuals and i was like. eyes glazed over staring into space#imagining blue wolves with anime hair like :) my dad thought it was very funny. he cant judge the reason he was looking around was because#often hes more interested in watching other people react to a movie than the movie itself LOL we are cut from similar cloths..#i still dont remember a thing about that movie. but the score wasnt bad HJKDBJFKLSHJFDs#but yeah i dunno. watch a horror movie. think about putting your ocs through the horrors. thats how ive lived my entire life
