My mind was humming about zhong/oc/venti again and fell into the, 'wait what bout xiao'. I like feel bad excluding him and i guess my mind made up how to fix that lol. It would 100% be the slow burn of the eventual quad group, like she and him not sure bout each other and slowly warming up to being friends.

And then just, out of the blue, while relaxing in each others company while the old geezers are out... they just decide to take the plunge and give one of them initiates a smooch.

Which turns into a full blown makeout sesh, surprising the two archons who eventually come home. Venti absolutely excited at the new development, rapidly slapping zhongli on his shouler and chest all like 'I TOLD YOU THIS WOULD HAPPEN'. Zhongli being the most mature of the four had kept Venti from trying to set the other two up, instead letting it grow naturally. But is equally, though it not being visually apparent, excited.

Meanwhile oc and xiao are blushing up a storm, brains completely stalling on what the fuck- how do i comprehend what.

Ficlet, she's half done but I needed this brain child outta my head and I wanted to post it. Star trek, jullien/garak, featuring alien courting rituals.

It goes like this. Jullian is standing in the tailors shop running his hands over the suit garak has just unveild.

"Naturally it's yours for the taking if you only decide it" Jullien pauses only breifly at the odd phrasing as he marvels over the fine stiching.

"A gift, garak?"

"Oh heavens no, my dear doctor. A gift? The very thought of it. For you my dear, never a gift."  his tone is odly soothing, holding his hands like one might to calm a horse but Jullien feels the sting all ghe same. Of course garak hadn't made this just for him, he was just a tailor showing off his latest work to a prospectice customer. Jullien let his hands drop from the outfit and made to turn away.

But garak was strangely insistent, redirecting his attention back to the clothes. Look at this stiching here, doesnt this colour suit you, you really do need better clothes. In the end Jullien caves and decides to buy it.

Garaks face falls breifly when he hands over his credit chit.

Garak bows out of their next lunch appointment citing some rush order or some such. And Jullien finds himself moping alone at quarks..had he been misunderstanding after all? Perhaps they weren't close at all.

It's then that Major Kira walks in and strikes up a conversation, asking why he's moping.

"Well, It's nothing really..it's only well garak I thought maybe he was offering me a gift-" he's caught off guard at the look of fury that crosses her face and before he knows it he's chasing her down the promenade. 'THAT CARDASSIAN BASTARD'

Garak assures that he did no such thing and jullien agrees, said it had been a misunderstanding. "Really its just that he said 'it was mine for the taking' and it confused me" Slowly she stills. Blinks. And then with an ashen face turns and storms out "I don't want to hear about your love life ever again, jullien!'

Jullien is unbelieveably confused. He mutters under his breath that he just doesnt understand and then he starts ranting in his confusion.

Garak stops him with a hand on his shoulder..'my dear, dear doctor I really do think that perhaps I ought to explain.'

And so explain he does.

- cardassians don't give gifts as a general rule at least not overtly. Directly giving a gift is basically an insult/power play. I'm better than you/i was more prepared than you/i have more money than you

- and so gifts generally arent given.but they are sometimes indirectly offered or taken. Most of the time you'd have to suggest far in advance that you are preparing a gift so the other could recriprocate/offer trade. But if you were courting someone to make it clear you were equals its a sort of 'i wont give this to you but I wont stop you from taking it either',

-for the affections to be refturned you'd have to take something of theirs that they offer

- some people offer an object but make it difficult to take, which is probably an old fashioned courting ritual where you have to prove your abilities

I ran into a post that was a bit confusing at first until I realised that op might have been using an accesibility tool to make the post in the first place. So I re-read the post focusing on the whole concept a word might convey rather than just the standard dictionary definition. It did take some effort but the post did make sense and not only that it was a post I agreed with and had experienced similar if not the same things.

Reminded me how difficult it can be to advocate for yourself if you're being dismissed because someone else doesnt understand you.

I took a linguistics class once and got into an argument because there was an example of a person who 'never developed langauge' and they were saying that person was only as intelligent as a todler if I remember right. But thats not something you can prove. They might not have the langauge skills you expect but you cant prove someone is stupid. It feels like pointing at someone who only speaks Mandarin and saying 'that person can't speak english therefore they are an idiot'. The only thing you can really measure is what you understand. So if you can't understand someone who are you to judge them?

When someone's grammar is 'bad' and its hard for you to understand. It was probably hard for them to write too. They're making an effort to comunicate something so the effort you put in to understanding it balances out. And even then the effort you put in to undersranding is in a lot of cases probably still easier than it was for that person to write in the first place.

I think it's important that for those who find it easier to comunicate make sure they are helping someone advocate for themselves and not advocating for them.
