barbarian (2022) was interesting—one of the more complex horror films lately in terms of visuals and distinct soundtrack and monster-concepts (halloween ends this is shade at you). I have some Thoughts about how male writers and directors tackle misogyny in horror as a whole; especially ones that clearly think of themselves as woke feminist and in on the joke of self awareness; but it was one of the more complex and original horror this year I think and distinctly disturbing in premise and execution so. Nice!

The problem with Heathers: the musical (2022) is that they play it like a serious drama instead of a black comedy. The original movie was ridiculous and bitingly bitchy and Barrett Wilbert Reed leaned into the maniacal nature of Veronica in the 2014 production. The 2022 production casts Veronica as a sympathetic, undeniably good-hearted heroine and the actress plays up a doe-eyed earnestness that sticks out like a sore thumb. Ironically, her lack of ennui makes her boring. Add in “I Say No”, her unearned triumphant song that ultimately feels hollow, underscoring this Veronica’s lack of agency.

What’s worse is that JD’s actor absolutely nails it, completely comprehends the essence of Heathers. He’s tortured, intense, unhinged, and you just don’t believe that he’d even acknowledge this Bella swan-lite version of Veronica, let alone die for her.

Some changes I liked: 1) heather duke’s new song as the new queen bee. Mainly because it’s super catchy and I love singing it. 2) expansion Kurt and ram’s backstory, emphasizing the point that unresolved trauma is passed down. 3) the light up books admittedly look more professional than the tiny flashlights from the off-Broadway production.

I’m well aware the change in Kurt and Ram’s predatory song is a point of contention among fans lol. “Blue” fit the tone of a black comedy to a T, while “you’re welcome” portrays Kurt and ram as the danger they are. The new one also allows the actors to show off their comedic chops and athleticism, rather than having them act like bumbling drunks for 3+ minutes. I like both songs, so I’m fine with the change.

The 2022 filmed production could’ve been a lot better if a more masterful actor were at the helm in the lead role of Veronica (and heather chandler to a lesser extent). Also some scenes just don’t translate well from stage to screen (see: that strange part in “meant to be yours” where JD is in focus, belting his heart out, and Veronica is swaying in the background making “acting” faces). All in all, the 2014 off-Broadway production of Heathers: the Musical’s reputation as a cult-classic is well-earned and if you can stand an out-of-focus recording, I’d highly recommend that over this production. That being said, the songs are fantastic and I did have fun watching it.

#also when JD says ‘I love you’ while pointing a gun at Veronica #in the 2014 version there’s understandable shock from both parties and it’s treated with gravity by all including the audience #in the 2022 version this happens in the middle of a song and it’s brushed away pretty quickly with JD looking super remorseful #for the remainder of the song and it’s just frustrating that they granted gravity to date rape and lessened it for gun violence #.txt #watched list

Gu She en Tao Mo hebben een rustige middag totdat twee boogschutters uit de lucht komen vallen

Vragen worden beantwoord en we komen te weten waar Tao Mo's vader en Gu She's tweeling broer voor terechtgesteld werden.

De serie eindigt met een banket waar de zonen van belangrijke families aanwezig zijn. Dit is een strategie om Tao Mo in leven te houden totdat Gu She's vader arriveert met zijn leger.

De laatste paar episodes vlogen door de rest van het verhaal. Dit is jammer want het voelde erg gehaast en alsof er dingen misten. Het einde is erg abrupt en ik vraag me af of ze het gered hebben. Misschien dat de sequel series hier licht op werpt.

In mijn herinnering was de serie een stuk beter dan ik hem nu vind. Het was leuk om te zien en er waren zeker leuke momenten, maar deze keer kwam hij wat zwakker naar voren.

when soldiers outside the 141 find out, they call him precious and self-obsessed, a vain pretty boy too preoccupied with his reflection to focus on the enemy. no wonder how he got his callsign. price has given up telling him to leave them on base and just teaches him to individually wrap them so they don’t rattle against each other and give himself away

what they don’t know is that each product contains an ingredient that when mixed with any number of the others, creates potent chemical bombs. he was caught unarmed once, he won’t let it happen again
