Summary: When Vecna’s curse affects you, someone who doesn’t consider himself as a hero outside of D&D comes to save you with his amazing guitar skills, playing your favorite song to save you from it.

Author’s Note: Heavily follows the plot and contains spoilers! If you haven’t watched S4 I wouldn’t recommend reading this fic. Maybe you could save it for later? The summary is for the entire series, not only for this chapter. I highly recommend you to check out the previous chapters! I try to follow the plot as strictly as possible but there are certain changes. Hope you enjoy it.

What to Expect: Reader x Eddie Munson, Dustin being Dustin, Getting to know more about reader’s trauma with her parents (verbally abusive elements take place so if it is triggering for you then don’t read the fic pls), Reader seeing visions just like Chrissy and Fred’s etc.

After Dustin said, ‘That’s what we’re gonna find out.’ he started to give a speech about bravery and courage. ‘Guys, I know this is going to be tough but we have to stand tall and overpower the supreme evil: Vecna. We just have to make plans and act accordingly if we want to learn more information and conquer his throne… SO WHO’S WITH ME?’

No sound. You were all looking at each other, trying to calculate your chances of winning this war. In the meantime, Dustin was looking at all of you with wide eyes and open arms, waiting for someone to say something. You could see the expectancy in his eyes. As you were still looking around the room, he became more frustrated. He turned to Steve and said,

‘Steve, you’ve done this THOUSANDS of times. You saved our lives and risked yours over and over again. I’m asking you to do it one more time.’

‘...’ Steve was hesitant. He knitted his eyebrows.

‘AW C’MON MAN!’ Dustin shouted and wasted no time, turning to Eddie:

‘What about you, the almighty dungeon master?’

‘Dustin… you know I’m a wanted man, right?’ Eddie replied. Dustin was growing impatient.

‘Max?’ He asked to the girl next to him.

‘Nope.’

Lastly, he turned to Robin.

‘Robin, sweet Robin. I know I can always count on you… right?’

Robin was looking around the room, trying to act like she was clueless. When she heard her name coming from Dustin’s mouth, she turned to him and said ‘What? I’m sorry I wasn’t listening.

Only then, Dustin snapped.

‘No guys COME ON. You’re joking right? You have GOT to be joking !’

After seeing his crazy movements and the way he was strolling furiously around the room, Max started to laugh, she wasn’t able to hold her composure anymore.

Dustin turned to Max, not being able to comprehend anything. ‘What are you laughing at!?’ He said, his voice cracking in a funny way when he highered the pitch of his tone. Unable to stop laughing at how funny he looked, Max said ‘I’m sorry-’ and continued to laugh a little more.

Becoming more angry than ever, Dustin stopped his little stroll and walked in front of Max. He looked at her straight in the eye… then pulled a strand of her hair. He was acting like he was in a huge fight but it was more like a scene you would normally see in a comedy movie. When Max started to yelp in pain, Steve yelled ‘Hey HEY HEY!’ and stepped between the two of them. He pulled Dustin away from her but he was still trying to get a hold of her, squinting his eyes and mumbling some words under his breath while pouting.

Steve grabbed his shoulders and steadied Dustin, telling ‘Henderson, HENDERSON STOP. We were just messing with you. Of course we will fight whatever this is, together. And I gotta save your ass a couple more times because you clearly can’t.’

‘Also, what the hell was that? Apologize from Max, dude. That wasn’t cool. Like, super not cool.’ Steve shook his head in disapproval, being overly dramatic the way he always did when it came to Dustin.

Dustin turned to Max, hands clasped together in front of his body. He was looking at the ground and he sighed, ‘I apologize Max.’ He was looking like a guilty little cat, with his tail between his legs. All of you were laughing at the view in front of you now.

‘Sorry Dustin, what was that? Couldn’t hear you.’ Max replied with a grin on her face. She already heard what he said but she was just enjoying the moment.

You were now in Steve’s car with the others, except Eddie of course. After the little prank they did to Dustin, everybody thought That it was better to divide into two groups: Nancy and Robin were going to go to the local library to find more information while Max, Dustin and Steve were going to the school's guidance counselor in hopes of finding a reason to Chrissy's murder.

While they were sorting out the groups, you asked ‘Hold on, so Nancy is going to help us too? That's awesome!’ You liked her and more importantly, Steve liked her. You knew he had a crush on her from the beginning and you always teased him about it. You were now doing the same thing, looking at Steve with a smug smirk on your face from the rearview mirror. When he heard the excitement in your voice and saw that silly little smirk on your face, he couldn't help but to put a smile on his face. Oh by the way, Dustin liked to tease him too, like a lot.

‘Steve loves Naancy, Steve loves Nancyyy…’

‘Okay shut up Henderson.’ He was already done with Dustin’s nagging. He hoped that Dustin would shut up but on the contrary, you listened to Dustin saying the same thing over and over again for the rest of your ride home. At least the ride wasn't that long.

When Steve got closer to your house, he slowed down and asked: ‘You sure you don't want to come with us?’

‘I've got school work to do but I'll catch you guys later. Good luck!’

And after all the good goodbyes, they drove off and disappeared into the woods.

The thing you said about school work was actually a lie. After the nightmare you saw last night, you wanted to be alone. You didn't want to go back to your house but you had nowhere else to go. So, you gathered all your courage and now you were standing in the front yard. All the memories you had in that house, the good and the bad came rushing into your head. But it wasn't like what you feared. It was more like a sweet, nostalgic feeling.

As you opened the door and took a step in, you finally understood how much you have missed the place. Everything was perfectly in its place. There was even a little layer of dust covering the surfaces of the objects you had laying around in your house. You quickly climbed up the stairs, rushing to get inside your bedroom.

When you opened the door of your bedroom, you felt this big wave of nostalgia hit you like never before. Your favorite stuffed animal was right next to your big, fluffy pillows and after the night you stayed in the shack with Eddie, you definitely needed a comfortable bed to sleep on. It was getting dark and at that moment, all you ever wanted was to sleep in your bed, surrounded by the feeling of familiarity.

You immediately switched on the lights, opened your wardrobe and grabbed a pair of pajamas. You then closed the curtains and started to change; you sat on your bed and untied the lace of your shoes. While you were trying to get rid of your shoes quickly, you heard a voice calling your name.

It was a low-pitched man's voice and it almost sounded like a grunt. ‘(Y/N)’ he said. Hearing the tone of his voice sent shivers down your spine. As your mind started to wander whose voice could that be, the deep voice called out your name once again. It sounded like it was coming from downstairs. So you slowly put down the pair of shoes you had in your hands, got up from the bed and without hurrying, you made your way to the door of your bedroom. You reached for the handle of the door. Once your fingertips touched the handle, the lights in your room started to flicker.

You’ve experienced shortage or other electrical problems before but this was nowhere close to your older experiences. While the lights were still flickering, you thought of opening the curtains to check if your neighbors were having the same problem. But when you took a step back from the door, the lights started to flicker wildly and a voice called out your name again. But it wasn’t the same deep voice that you’ve heard a few seconds ago. It belonged to your mother.

Her sweet, silky voice was now coming from just outside of your bedroom, behind the closed door. You turned to the door and slowly grabbed the handle, waiting to hear more from her. You felt like your mind was playing games to you but at the same time you were trying to be as cautious as possible because there was something off, clearly. Although you thought you were dreaming or worse, seeing yet another nightmare, you were fully conscious of your actions and you were able to feel the coldness of the metal door handle.

‘Honey, my hands are full! Please open the door for me so I can get insiide!’ She sounds so real, you thought to yourself. What if it’s all real? What if she’s right here, behind the door?

While you were deep in thoughts, you didn’t make a single move or a noise. You heard your mother’s voice once again, then again and again. Each time, she was growing more frustrated. You were able to tell that by the sound of her voice. Then she stopped talking.

And the deep manly voice started to talk again: ‘(Y/N), you can’t escape from your past. It’s time for you to face it!’ With that, the lights started to flicker one last time. All the flashing and confusion made you feel dizzy and your head started to spin. You turned your back against the door and you slowly collapsed to the floor. You were on the verge of crying when suddenly, you heard your mother’s voice one last time.

This time, there was no sign of that sweet little voice you heard earlier. It was now filled with hatred and disgust. She was calling you names and saying verbally abusive things to you… Just like the way she used to do back then.

‘You are a fucking coward (Y/N). YOU HEAR ME? YOU’VE ALWAYS BEEN. You are NOTHING but a disappointment in our eyes. Don’t you EVER forget that!’

And just like that, you were crying. Crying from fear, confusion, sadness. But it was mostly anger. All this time, you tried to remember the happy moments you had with your parents before the mall fire but the bad memories always overcame them. You tried to remember them as good people but the way they acted towards you, the pain they left you with always seemed to stick, no matter how hard you tried to forget. Of course you loved them but… There was always going to be a ‘but’.

As the voice kept getting louder and louder after each word, you started to cry even harder. While you were on the floor sitting, you brought your knees closer to you and slightly lowered your head, keeping it between your legs. You were shaking your head, yelling ‘No, no, no, no, NO!’ repeatedly. You wanted to escape but it felt impossible.

After the horrible hallucination or whatever it was you had last night, you woke up on the floor with a terrible headache. You tried to remember what happened after you started to cry and yell for help but you couldn’t seem to remember anything. I probably passed out, you thought to yourself.

You got off the floor, quickly went to change your clothes and went downstairs to get a painkiller. You didn’t want to dwell on last night but it was haunting you, you needed to tell someone about it. Or would have they thought that you were going crazy?

You tried to leave these thoughts behind as you walked out of the house and started to look around for your old trust-worthy bike. In hopes of being able to distract yourself, you hopped on your bike and headed to Wheelers’ house. You thought of spending alone time with Nancy as she was one of your closest friends.

But to your surprise, Steve, Dustin, Max, Robin and Lucas were there too. When you knocked on the door, Mrs Wheeler opened it and greeted you with her charming usual smile. At first she was surprised to see you but she welcomed you sweetly and let you in. While you were making your way to Nancy’s bedroom, Mrs Wheeler asked if you had your breakfast and said ‘If you hadn’t, feel free to join us! I’ve made some pancakes and I know you’ll love ‘em!’ You kindly declined her offer and passed by the kitchen. As you were passing by, Mr Wheeler saw you and he sighed loudly, saying ‘Great! Another kid!’

You acted like you didn’t see nor hear him. He was always in a grumpy mood so it wasn’t anything unusual. You were thinking about what he said, so clearly there were others inside. You were still walking when suddenly you saw everyone gathered around Max in the living room.

Her face was more pale than usual, it was as if she saw a ghost or something. She was telling a story, one that made everyone go silent. They saw that you came but none of them made a noise. Nancy made a quick small move to you to come and sit with them silently. And you did as she wanted.

Max was trying to appear as normal but it was obvious how frightened she was from the way she was acting. You knew her for some time now and whenever something bad happened to her, she tried to hide her feelings the best she can and tried to look stoic. You wondered if she finally decided to open up about what she had been through after Billy’s death but she was talking about something else: About her death.

A few minutes passed and you started to understand what was going on. Also when Max finished telling her story, they made a small recap for you:

After they dropped you off, Steve’s group went to Ms. Kelley’s house and Max tried to talk to her about Chrissy but she was so strict about students’ confidentiality so while she was distracted, Max took the keys to her office and ran back to Steve’s car. After a small ride to the school, they broke into the office and looked at Chrissy and Fred’s patient files. After investigating a little, they found that Chrissy and Fred were showing the same symptoms before they were found dead.

Until this point, everything seemed somewhat normal but after this, things were starting to get stranger. When they found the same information on both of the files, Max said that she started to realize she was having the same troubles as they did. Constant headaches, a (preferably) fresh trauma, seeing weird hallucinations, trouble sleeping etc.

When you heard her say those things, you started to feel tense. You were having the same problems as they have had too. But Max wasn’t done talking so she continued and you didn’t say anything.

After they found the information they needed, she said that they started to pack their things in order to leave the office. As they were packing, she claimed that she heard a voice. A deep, manly voice calling her name. She said that the source was coming from the hallway and the others seemed to not care, so she left the others and went outside alone to look at what was happening in there. When she got out, she heard a noise -she quickly made an imitation of it for you to understand it better- and saw a big ancient grandfather clock at the end of the hallway. The same voice called out her name once again.

Then suddenly, she stopped talking. Her eyes began to get watery, she looked like she was in pain. She was trying so hard to be brave, that was very typical of Max but was it really necessary in a situation like this? It almost seemed impossible to you.

After steadying herself a little, she looked at each one of you in the eye. She was having a hard time trying to find the right words. Later, she explained the timeline of what Chrissy and Fred went through and when exactly those things happened to them. Lastly she said, ‘I don’t know how much time I’ve left but looks like I’m gonna die tomorrow.’

Everyone was devastated and none of you seemed to have an answer nor a solution for her. Your heart was breaking. You could’ve done anything in your power to save you from this curse but you were not able to do anything at that moment. None of you were.

And it was time for Robin and Nancy to share the news that they had. They said that they looked at old newspapers and searched their headlines about supernatural things happening around Hawkins. They claimed that they searched through them for hours and finally, they found a headline with Victor Creel in it. Turns out they’ve read the article and thought that this man could be very helpful. He was also the guy Eddie’s uncle mentioned in a previous interview she did with him, Nancy stated. He said that Victor used to do the same thing to his previous victims and that she had to find a way to talk to him. And she added that Robin and her thought that he was the only person who could’ve helped them, even though he was a cold-blooded serial killer.

‘Isn’t he locked up somewhere?’ Lucas asked genuinely.

‘Yes, in a mental asylum to be exact.’ Robin stated.

‘Uh how are you guys going to-’

‘We’ll find a way, don’t worry about it.’ said Nancy.

After the discussion, everyone was now dealing with other stuff: They were either spending time with Max, trying to spend time with her and not leave her alone in case something happened to her or they were making a plan to reach Victor Creel.

You felt really sorry about Max, but you couldn’t help but wonder about your own situation. You were afraid, confused and you felt all alone but you didn’t make a sound because you simply didn’t want to draw any attention to yourself when Max’s situation was far more urgent.

Deep in thoughts, you heard a faint noise coming from under one of the couch pillows. You simply made your way over to the source of the noise, not sure if you were seeing one of the visions again. You slowly flipped the cushion over, trying to be as careful as possible but you saw a walkie talkie under it. You sighed in relief as you took it in your hands. You were waiting for another noise from the person who was at the end of the line.

‘Henderson… Wheeler? ANYBODY?!’

It was Eddie. From the sound of his voice, you could tell that he has been waiting for an answer for a long time. He sounded really frustrated and annoyed. You wondered how long he has been trying to reach out to one of you guys. So you wasted no time and touched the button to speak up.

‘Eddie hi, it’s me.’

‘Ah, (Y/L/N), my personal favorite last name out of all the others I’ve been saying.’ He said with a gentle tone. Then quickly added:

‘For the PAST COUPLE OF HOURS.’ and continued, ‘You guys are coming, right? I’m kinda short on supplies here and I’m on the edge of having a mental breakdown because of staying here all by myself.’

‘Also, I missed you… like a lot, actually. Aand if you ever get a chance, please say hi to my guitar. My baby must’ve been so lonely.’

‘Okay easy now, Munson.’

‘First of all, we are kinda dealing with a lot right now and it could take a while for us to come to you. Also it would be better if we explain it to you in person. Other than that I missed you too and unfortunately I can’t go anywhere near your guitar because the inside of your trailer is considered a crime scene, you remember that?’

‘Uh I KNOW, goddammit!I just want to show her to you.’ You giggled a little at how cute he sounded when he was frustrated.

‘I will meet her someday Eddie, I promise. Don’t worry about it now, okay? Just be safe.’

‘Okay now that I have your promise, I don’t want anything else. Although I can have a 6 pack. I know it’s not the best time to drink beer but-’

‘Just stay inside and we’ll try to come as soon as we can, okay? I’ll try to grab a 6 pack for you but I can’t make a promise about this one.’

‘Eh, I tried. See you soon, sweetheart.’

‘See ya Munson.’

After your small talk with Eddie, you gathered everyone together and said what he wanted to say to the others: He needed a food delivery soon and wanted you guys to visit him. Although he wanted you guys near him, the others have already made other plans. Nancy and Robin were going to go to the asylum to talk with Victor Creel and Steve was going to babysit the kids. They left it up to you whether you wanted to go to the asylum or not.

You were really worried about Max and wanted to spend time with her if these times were going to be her last. With time, pain brought you two closer, because of the mall fire. You tried to talk to her about her feelings and be there for her but she always had this barrier between her and the others. Though you always made sure she knew that you were there for her and she appreciated it no matter what. So you stayed with Steve and helped him babysit Dustin, Max and Lucas.

While you were staying at the Wheelers’, you had no clue about what was happening to Eddie.

Can you recommend some media with jonsa vibes?

Hmm, the only thing coming to mind is the relationship between Uhtred and Aethelflaed in The Last Kingdom? I know someone made a sort of slideshow comparison between them and Jonsa, though I can't find it at the moment. I'd say there's a closer show-verse parallel than book-verse parallel, but still worth checking out maybe.

Otherwise, I don't really have any other TV or movies... I can give you some music and artwork though:

I mostly listen to a lot of instrumental stuff when I'm writing my fics, but here's lyric songs I also listen to that give me Jonsa vibes:

Hard Road, Johnny Flynn

This always makes me think of Sansa as 'the girl in grey', making her way towards Jon at the Wall. It comes in with these marching drums in the latter half which just really amps it up in a great way, imo. It feels motivational — yes, it's a hard road, but she keeps going.

This is my favourite verse:

She knows how and she knows when She's born to die and live and again She goes from moor to build a nest She knows the dance that burns her best From the ashes, fair to share The purest sounds to leaden heads Sung from her breast and bends the old trees Wing-ed wind songs sung so holy

I just feel it speaks to the Sansa-Alayne arc in a really cool way — there's the symbolic 'death' of Sansa, the whole "Sansa Stark went up the mountain, but Alayne Stone is coming down," but then the inevitable 'rebirth' of Sansa. There's some lovely bird imagery here which I strongly associate with Sansa, as well as singing and dancing. Plus there's the mention of burning and ashes, which speaks to Melisandre's prophecy of "a girl as grey as ash." At least I think so!

Black is the Colour, Isobel Anderson & Ruby Colley

Ohhh love this one — it's so haunting! I've been saving this song to include in either the 3rd or final chapter of My Maid of Stone, though with some slightly altered lyrics... mainly switching black for red.

The mention of "the gentlest hands" is very Jonsa to me, considering I think 'gentleness' in a lady is a bit of a romantic ideal for Jon and well, "Sansa silenced the wolf with a gentle hand to the head."

Song to the Siren, Wolf Alice

This is a cover of Tim Buckley's original, but I probably do prefer this version? I suppose this one really speaks to the romantic longing in both Jon and Sansa, which I don't believe can be resolved except with each other. There's something tender, a bit bruised and uncertain, about the speaker in this song, who "shies from the sorrow," who is constantly questioning, "puzzled as the oyster." I think you find this questioning in Sansa and Jon quite a bit, questioning what they want, what they desire, have always desired (LOVE) etc.

I mean, what they both wouldn't give to hear this call:

Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you Here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you

Narratively speaking, we as readers are also waiting, waiting for romantic resolution for these two romantic characters. Because come on, it's got to come to a head somehow! And with each other ;)

Hi again! Just wanna recommend you some really good stories with fairy lore and Celtic/Brythonic mythology after my long ass rant about ACOTAR. To take a break from the negativity. So I already recommended Sargentum and Mias and Elle on Tapastic and I really do highly recommend you read them. Sargentum is about a boy who makes a deal with a witch for powers of destruction while Mias and Elle is a Hades and Persephone inspired story set in a pagan Tudor England where a wizard goes through a portal to the modern day and kidnaps a woman into his fantasy world for his nefarious deeds. However, because it is a Hades and Persephone inspired story, it has its issues when it comes with the romance between the two leads but it is a very healthy one (very low bar to pass considering the Stockholm Syndrome debate and countless other toxic, shitty retellings, I know, but I promise, they are good for each other) where the female lead absolutely takes no shit while the story actually punishes the male lead for his terrible and awful behavior (the author does encourage that we hate him in the early chapters it's very funny the comments are filled with stuff like "KICK HIS ASS"). Tread lightly though, it gets very heavy and violent pretty fast. Another recommendation is a middle grade fantasy series called 13 Treasures by Michelle Harrison which is about a girl who can see fairies and it basically introduced preteen me to real life fairy lore in Britain and Ireland. It's also fairly dark for a middle grade book series too but then again, the fae folk are actually dangerous trickster entities in this one because they literally kidnap babies and replace them with changelings. There are a couple of instances where the characters used their wit to outsmart the fae folk and the solutions are very clever so stick around for those. For movies, I recommend the Cartoon Saloon movies: Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea, and Wolfwalkers, all of which are inspired by real life Irish folklore.

50 questions for fic writers

@darkangel1791 asked that fic writing mutual answer these questions, and so here we go~

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?) I’d start with a oneshot. The one that’s been the most well-received is a SPN/Teen Wolf (MTV) crossover about Stiles having an unreciprocated crush on Dean called Crush. The oneshot I think represents my style as a writer the most would be my BnHA/MHA fic called …save…. about Shirakumo overcoming Kurogiri’s programing enough to ask Aizawa to help save Shigaraki. The oneshot I think I did my best work on to date would be my IwtV (AMC) fic May You Get What You Desire Is a Curse upon the Dead, that explores desire via Devil’s Minion. I think this is my best oneshot, if not overall fic, because I alternated between two POVs, one in the past and one in the present, and I don’t cringe when I reread it.

2. Go to your AO3 “Works” page, to the sidebar with all the filters, and click the drop-down arrow for “Additional Tags.” What are your top 3-5 most used tags? Do you think they accurately represent your writing habits? Mine are 1) Originally posted to Fanfiction.net, 2) I Blame Tumblr, 3) Crossover, 4) Additional Warnings in Author’s Note, and 5) Other: See More Story Notes. I think that it does represent me as a writer because sometimes I wrote very long warnings lists and author’s notes because I always have something to say.

3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics? I write a lot of stuff where someone’s not!straight because I myself am not straight. I also write quite a bit of romance because it does fascinate me, but I’m also drawn to platonic pairs with strong bonds too.

4. What detail in [insert fic] are you really proud of? I spent a lot of time researching stuff about Japan to make my Banana Fish manga AU where Ash joins Eiji on the plane to Japan called Best Laid Plans work. I looked up school schedules, cultural notes, train ride durations, flight durations, food, culture, 80’s history, Google street views, etc…etc… The ending ended up being a bit of a you love it or hate it ending unfortunately, but I am proud of the work I put in to make the fic happen.

5. What do you wish someone would ask you about [insert fic]? Answer it now! I don’t think I have any specific questions off the top of my head, but if anyone has some fic-specific questions, my inbox is always open for them

6. What’s one fact about the universe of [insert fic] that you didn’t get a chance to mention in the fic itself? I should have been more clear that in my Black Clover soulmate AU Names and Promises that Asta and Yuno are platonic soulmates and said their first words to each other.

7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of? I’m really proud of my work on my BnHA/MHA soulmate AU Our Soulmate Academia because I fleshed so much out and had so much fun with things like quirk swapping and what life for an underground hero might entail, etc…It was also fun trying to guess what Horikoshi might do in the canon and try to avoid doing something too similar.

8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)? I want to do my Vampire Chronicles (AMC) inspired playlist as a fic series, but I do not have that kind of free time unfortunately.

9. How do you find new fic to read? Most of the time it’s whatever shows up via my subs in my inbox. But sometimes I just pick a fandom I want to read from and see what new fics are around

10. How do you decide what to write? Sometimes it’s based on a Tumblr post I read like my IwtV (AMC) crack fic We Have Thieves based on some Night Island (AMC) posts I’ve seen. Sometimes I’m filling in some blanks from canon like my Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits fic Promises and Oaths where I hypothesized some things before the anime finished. Sometimes I watch something unrelated and it inspires a fic like the time I watched that Monuments Men movie and then wrote my Captain America Steve never becomes a super soldier AU called If No One Else Will. Sometimes I get inspired by other fics I’ve been reading like my Sherlock Holmes fic The Mystery in the Fog.

11. Are you partial to a certain character/pairing or are you more equal-opportunity? If you are partial to any character/pairing, why do you think that is? I’m a perseverative person by nature. Sometimes I blink and have like a handful of Devil’s Minion fics because it gives me brain worms or when I was in high school I always had an Inuyasha fic in my fic rotation because I loved that series so much. There was also a time I wrote too many Thick of It fics because I kept using the characters as a way to take a break from the novel I was working on at the time and several Tumblr users were giving me attention for those fics.

12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you? I started out pretty homophobic when I first started writing fanfic because I was very sheltered. Now I’m just very not straight and the characters I gravitate towards aren’t either. I also wasn’t into reading lemons but now I don’t mind them as long as there’s some sort of plot with it outside of the sexy times.

13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore? I’m not sure. I’ve never really been big on searching out specific tropes, though sometimes I will go looking for stuff like those fics where someone swaps places with their younger self and the younger self gets to be in shock at their potential future.

14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer? If the AO3 author I trust the most wrote something like omegaverse I don’t think I would follow because that might be a step too squick for me.

15. What’s your favorite AU that you’ve written? I really like my Black Clover/Boruto crossover The Land Across the Sea where Boruto washes up on Clover’s beach, runs into the Black Bulls and Golden Dawn, and then some of both squads take him back to the Land of Fire, which is coincidentally the same country Yami came from. It was a speculation of what post-Spade Arc could be like written before the current Black Clover manga arc. (I wrote this because I think Yami and Naruto would have been friends growing up and they’re roughly about the same age if you take their ages at the start of their mangas in relation to publication year into account).

16. What’s an AU you would love to read (or have read and loved)? I think we need more Claudia lived fics in the IwtV (AMC) fandom. I also want to see Present Mic be more students’ mentor in fics.

17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it? I want to write a BnHA/MHA AU where Class A has to travel back in time to save Yagi kind of inspired by Tenchi in Love. I’ve written a chunk of it but I hit a wall and I can’t seem to move forward with it.

18. If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it involve? I’m not sure. No one’s made any sequel requests in years.

19. If you wrote a spin-off of [insert fic], what would it involve? I want to take my IwtV (AMC) fic Dream a Memory of Me and remix it now that I have more memory and knowledge of what I should be doing with the characters. Louis also deserves to be utilized in a less haphazard way for the ending. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to do this so it’ll just have to be a testament to how much I was raring and ready to write Iwtv (AMC) fic that I didn’t take the time to refresh my memory properly before embarking on it.

20. If you wrote a prequel to [insert fic], what would it involve? I’m not sure but the novel I’m currently working on 100% could have a prequel but I think that might be too much for me because I’d have to delve deep into my time in middle and high school more so than I’m already doing for that novel.

21. If you wrote a “missing scene” in [insert fic], what would it be? Usually if a scene gets send to my dump file, there’s a good reason it’s not in the fic.

22. Who is your favorite character in [insert fic] and why? If it’s a Black Clover fic I’ve written, my favorite character is always Asta. He’s just so loud and friend shaped. I can’t help it. Like a little anime nephew.

23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to? I’ve written so many. I think counting the fics lost to time and space, I’ve written probably close to or just over 300 fics since 2001. I think a lot of the ones I want to do I’ve already done maybe even twice over.

24. Are there any Easter eggs in [insert fic], and if so, what are they? Occasionally I make small references but frequently they small enough I can’t think of them off the top of my head.

25. What other websites or resources do you use most often when you write? I usually just use Word, Excel, and Google to find things.

26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue? No dialogue. Only dialogue can get confusing without being able to use said.

27. How long did it take to write [insert fic]? Describe the process. It took me a year and two months to get Our Soulmate Academia ready for posting. I wrote it as a giant first draft, edited it while breaking it into chapters, and then spot checked it before posting it. That’s the general way I do all my fics in the last few years. Makes it easy to finish chaptered fics.

28. Does anyone read your fics before you post them? If so, who? I used a beta way back in the 2000’s, who proceeded to steal my fic and post it as their own so I’m the only person who reads them before I post them with the exception of Kitty who has severed as my Britpicker many times.

29. What songs would be (or are) on a playlist for [insert fic]? Explain your choices if you want! We Have Thieves has its own little mini mix technically. The songs I reference in the fic are: “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, “Holy Diver” by Dio, “Little Red Corvette” by Prince, “Psycho Killer” by Talking Heads, and “Beat It” by Michael Jackson.

30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter? I wrote some smut for Best Laid Plans since part of the plot was unpacking Ash’s sexual trauma and sexuality. I kept it kind of simple and tried not to make it a spectacle. I’ve written other smut in some orphaned fics. Recently I had the opportunity to write smut in a couple of my IwtV AMC fics but I chose to fade out of the scenes instead because I don’t want to write smut in a manner that feels exploitative (which is why I orphaned the fics I did. I thought they were kind of exploitative and that’s just not how I want to be remembered).

31. What’s your ideal fic length to write? I’m not sure. I ordered my fics by word count and found that the 1,000 word mark occurs roughly half way down the list, so I think I just write whatever word count suits what the fic ends up being unless it’s a drabble that’s to a specific word count.

32. What’s your ideal fic length to read? Usually I try to keep it to under 10,000 unless I’m feeling ambitious or the fic summary is too good to pass up.

33. If you write chaptered fics, what’s your ideal chapter length to write? Is it different from your ideal chapter length to read? When I was in high school and university I would cap my chapters around 5,000 words especially because I was writing drafts without editing them and then just posting them like a weirdo. Now I like to write the whole thing out and if it’s over about 15,000/20,000 or so words I break it into multiple chapters of usually 5,000 – 10,000 words in length.

34. What aspects of your writing are inspired by/taken from your real life? I 100% used my own mom as inspiration for how to flesh Bakugou’s mom out in Our Soulmate Academia.

35. What aspects of your writing are completely unlike your real life? I have never been kissed. I can’t drink and I can’t drive. So, naturally I’m drawn to having a bit of romance in a good chunk of my fics because it fascinates me in the way that space or dinosaurs, etc… fascinate me.

36. Do you visualize what you read/write? If I can’t see a little movie playing in my head then I’m not going to be able to write it. This is also why I get compliments on my action sequences. I can easily visually keep track of everyone involved at all times.

37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it? I wrote a My Life in Film and BBC Sherlock crossover called Distortion that I think worked out fairly well. I think the fact My Life in Film is an obscure TV show didn’t help it in the popularity department. I chose the crossover because Andrew Scott is in both shows.

38. Did any of your fics get surprisingly popular (whatever that means to you)? Which ones? Why do you think they were so successful? Only two of my fics have made it into people’s collections. They’re both Black Clover fics. The first one is Rest Young Soldiers which speculated on how the Spade Arc might end, and All Fortune Plays End where I speculated about how Asta’s devil powers might take over his body. I think I did a good job writing both fics.

39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who? It is not. I just do what works for my brain.

40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person? I do reread them. I like to reread my own as they come up on people’s bookmarks of my fics. I also have a trash memory so sometimes I reread fics when out looking for new ones and become that one Gandalf meme when I try to leave kudos.

41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.” I have 28 recs out of 138 bookmarks and I feel this way about all of my recs.

42. Have you ever received a comment that particularly stood out to you for whatever reason? I got some flames back in my SPN days that graphically described how I should burn in hell for the fic I wrote. I also still think about the nice reviewer who complemented me on my Daniel characterization on my first IwtV AMC fic since that fic is pretty weak compared to my other ones in that fandom.

43. If you take/write prompts: what’s your favorite prompt fic that you’ve written? I’m not sure because I can’t remember which fics are prompt fics. But I always love writing them.

44. If you take/write prompts: do you prefer dialogue or scenario/narrative prompts? I don’t really have a preference. Though sometimes I’ll accidentally take it in a strange direction because that’s where inspiration took me.

45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic? Editing hands down. I’ve gone from only running the spell check and immediately posting the first and only draft to doing a two round editing process.

46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write? On my computer is preferred. Typing on my phone is obnoxious no matter what I’m doing.

47. If [insert fic] was a pair of shoes, what kind would it be? Describe the shoes. If my SPN fic Burn Mark were shoes, they’d have the mark of Michael branded into the toes and the soles would be made from metal like a cage. The leather would be well worn, possibly almost worn out and the shoe laces a little dirty.

48. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it? The last fic I read was the latest chapter of Only Human by bandedbulbussnarfblat. If human AUs for IwtV (AMC) aren’t your thing, then I highly recommend The Human Perspective by the same author.

49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it! I am currently working on my novel so no sharing.

50. Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about! I’m not really sure. I’ve been posting fic online since July of 2001. I have a lot of thoughts about it but not sure which to choose from. If people want to know more you all can always send me asks or messages about whatever questions you might have.

8. Is there a story idea you have that you would love if it could appear fully realized but that you do not think you’ll ever write yourself?

And thank you for number 13, I learned another unhinged part of fanfiction history bevause of it🤣😳

It's never too late to ask questions! But it's also particularly not too late this time because I was not kidding when I said I've been trying to distract myself from a stressful thing I have to be vague about right now, and this stressful thing will likely drag on for months, hooray!

Always happy to tell people about My Immortal :D. (I am not, for the record, Tara Gilesbie. Which I suppose is exactly what Tara Gilesbie might say. But I'm really not.) Have you seen the Sarah Z. YouTube video about that whole thing? Because that is a wild ride.

For question 8...Okay, it's funny because you'd think since I wrote these questions myself, I'd have answers for all of them, but the answers I have are...barely answers for this one.

I think I mentioned before that I just like the concept of a fic based on the song "When the Party's Over" by Billie Eilish. It feels very Hoth-era pining to me, but I don't actually have a story of any sort to go along with this vague concept, so I just have an empty document that's titled "When the Party's Over" that's been on my computer for months because I was so certain I would write this, but no actual idea has ever materialized, so I don't know that I ever will write it. But I sure wish it existed, because the idea sounds rad. I mean...

Don't you know I'm no good for you? I've learned to lose you, can't afford to Tore my shirt to stop you bleedin' But nothin' ever stops you leavin'

Similar thing with...I have a document for story concepts, and most of them are actual concepts -- stuff like "Poe knows Kylo Ren", "AU — Leia and Vader are aware of each other’s existence and still hate each other", etc. And then I just have this quote, which is something John Green quotes in my favorite chapter of his book The Anthropocene Reviewed (which is a great book, and the audiobook is read by John. I highly recommend it):

“We did not spend our days gazing into each other’s eyes. We did that gazing when we made love or when one of us was in trouble, but most of the time our gazes met and entwined as they looked at a third thing. Third things are essential to marriages, objects or practices or habits or arts or institutions or games or human beings that provide a site of joint rapture or contentment. Each member of a couple is separate; the two come together in double attention. Lovemaking is not a third thing but two-in-one. John Keats can be a third thing, or the Boston Symphony Orchestra, or Dutch interiors, or Monopoly.” -Donald Hall

And, frankly, I don't know what the heck that's supposed to mean. I have no accompanying story idea; I just really enjoy the concept of "...most of the time our gazes met and entwined as they looked at a third thing." But, what was I expecting myself to do with this? I don't know! So, considering how much I like this quote, if I could find some way to make a story pop into existence fully formed around...whatever I was thinking when I pasted this quote into my Concepts document, I'm sure I'd love it.

Hi, I know you probably get a ton of these and that you’re probably really busy, but I was wondering if I could get a BOB and TP ship?

My pronouns are she/her. I’m 5’3, midsize/curvy girl with brown eyes and short, curly brown hair. My favorite fashion styles are alt, dark/grunge/chaotic/green academia, and cryptidcore.

I’m an INFP, HSP, and a Capricorn. Basically I’m really sensitive and empathetic. I love reading, writing, video games, animation, music, history, nature, and animals. I’m not a fan of conflict/fighting. I prefer to talk things out and find a more peaceful resolution. Another thing is that I’m an introvert and prefer more quiet and chill activities as opposed to loud and energetic ones. I need a fair amount of alone time in order to recharge.

A “hobby” of mine(if you can call it that) is over analyzing different characters, events, and worlds from different video games, movies, tv shows, books, etc. I also like hiking/nature walks, and self/skincare.

I would say my love language physical touch. I love to cuddle and I’m very affectionate. Like I said before I don’t like conflict or yelling, so an ideal partner would like to calmly communicate with me if we had any disagreements.

song recommendation: Everybody Loves Somebody - Dean Martin

Alright let me start off by saying that I think you guys would go along so well together. Like physically, but also emotionally you guys would really compliment each other.

You are so his type. So when he sees you he's sure it's love at first sight. Your curves, your pretty hair, You're so beautiful to him. He can't help but stare at you like a maniac because he's just in awe with you.

You aren't really short, but he thinks your height is so cute. Like he can just look down at you and completely melt. He definitely calls you his "fun sized gf" Lol

both of your styles are quite different, but I still think that you guys would look so nice with one another. He thinks all of your styles are super cool and stylish, he's pretty plain and simple about style so maybe you can give him some types on clothes shopping.

He understands your emotions really well actually. It doesn't matter if you're feeling really emotional that day, or if you are just feeling kind of down. It doesn't bother him at all. He's actually a really good boyfriend and would try to do anything to make you feel better. And the more that he dates you he understands what helps you better and some stuff that you don't like when you're having a bad day.

He's super thoughtful when it comes to you. He will always be thinking of you and how you feel at any inconvenience or even in general. What you think and what you like really matters to him. He loves you bunches and is willing to do anything to prove that to you.

Along with that with all of your hobbies and interests, he's of course supporting them by making sure you are completely spoiled with the things you need to enjoy your down time. For example, he'd definitely take you to the bookstore and tell you to get whatever you'd like. Just because seeing that cute smile on your face is totally worth it.

I think he'd see you play video games and become super interested in them. Like he would watch and be like, "how are your hands moving so fast?" and would be super fascinated with it. (he might even ask you if you can teach him how to play it) *cue the romantic montage music*

Okay now, you guys can really get along with both liking nature and animals. I mean he's really like a male snow white when it comes to animals, so getting a bunch of pets is a NECESSITY for the near future. And he'd love going on bunches of hikes or outside picnics. Even just taking a nice walk around if it's nice outside.

He's not a big fan of fighting with you either. He hates it every time you guys get into an argument and he hates seeing you get sad or mad because of something he did. If you guys do get into a conflict, he'll never raise his voice at you, he just can't do it. He prefers sitting down and talking about the situation maturely instead. And afterwards he always will apologize, ALWAYS!

Lip is the perfect person you can relax and enjoy quiet time with. He enjoys it almost as much as you do. So just staying cozy with one another inside is always preferred from you both, occasionally he'll ask you if you want to go out, but it honestly doesn't matter as long as he's spending time with you.

Whenever you need alone time or just some space away to recharge your social battery (which we all do sometimes) he'll always give you your space. He's super respective of your space and so if you need some time away he's willing to give it ofc.

Okay, idea, I think one night, before you guys go to bed, he'd see you doing your skincare and immediately want you to try it on him. He's a bit of an old school guy, meaning he just uses a bar of soap and water to wash his face. But when he sees you put so many extra products he finds it really interesting and will ask you if you can try it on him too lol.

HE ABSOLUTELY LOVES when you ask him for cuddles. It's his favorite thing ever. Just holding you and feeling you in his arms is so amazing. His favorite cuddle position would have to be whenever you lay your head on his chest. HE just loves holding you. Especially after the war because he has hard trouble going to sleep, but when you guys cuddle he can finally get the rest he needs.

But he loves whenever you're affectionate in any way possible. He's affectionate too. HE loves your curves so he'll always take any chance he can get *respectfully* to grab, hug, and kiss on you.

Overall, he's just a super sweetheart for you and is totally in love with you!!

WIP Asks for Don’f Fear the Reaper!

🎧—What would the soundtrack be like? Is it weird that I picture a soft, delicate piano theme like this? Or something that leans toward a sweeping, tranquil sorrow like this. Then, for times that call for more layers or dramatic music, the same theme in different intensities and instruments. For the most part, this is a lower-action story compared to my others, so something that sets an environment's mood is more important to me than having a chart-topper or earworm.

Something with a classic sound. No pop covers for the end credits or random rock-n-roll songs that don't have a point other than they sound cool (lookin' at YOU, Taika Waititi).

🥀—Which character/plot point/etc is most important for an adaption to get right? Oh, Loki for sure. He's got to be his own entity in each story I write, so I know in Reaper, its a special challenge to walk that fine line between sexy, quippy asshole Loki and weary-soul-yearning-for-a-mate Loki, the former whom is very much my Nights!Loki and the latter my Snake Prince. I feel like the MCU doesn't marry these two concepts well with any character, so putting such a mixture into MY version of a film Loki would be a tenuous task.

🎬—Who would you cast as your characters? I think we all know that no one would be for Loki aside from Tom. I'd also want to bring back Tessa Thompson for Valkyrie/Brunnhilde. For our Y/N, I'm not sure I'm familiar enough with her to recommend an actor for the role. I get the feeling a Hollywood agent would immediately suggest someone gothy like Jenna Ortega, and while I like Jenna Ortega, I specifically would ask for someone who DIDN'T look like a backup singer for Amy Lee.

IDK, I kind of picture Anna Taylor-Joy as Reaper!Y/N, but not sure why.

Are parents expected to be involved? Specifically for elementary school aged children. Do they usually put on plays, dance shows, art exhibitions, etc? So, as someone who's gone to school in Sweden, I'd say the main event at most elementary schools would be Lucia celebrations and the sommaravslutning (which literally translates as "summer finishing", so the last day of school before the summer holidays, ie the day the semester finishes).

Lucia celebrations are a whole thing, and I'd recommend looking it up on Wikipedia or something it to get the full story. But basically, on the 13th of December every year we have a holiday to celebrate Saint Lucia, which involves people (usually children) dressing up in white gowns, headpieces (tinsel or a leaf crown for girls and sometimes a cone for boys) and carrying candles (usually electric ones for younger kids), of which one is the Lucia who wears a crown with candles on her head (real ones for adults, but again usually electrical ones for kids). Among younger kids some also dress up as little Santas or Gingerbread men. Everyone then walks in a line with the Lucia leading it (a so called "Luciatåg", literally "Lucia train") while singing traditional Christmas songs. It's very common for schools to have a performance like this with their students on or near the 13th of December, and parents are almost always invited to come along to watch. Who gets to be the Lucia (traditionally a girl, but in recent years I'm glad to say this norm has been challenged and some schools have had Lucias of other genders as well) can also be a source of intense rivalry, jealousy and drama depending on how she is chosen (for fairness sake the Lucia is usually chosen randomly among the volunteers these days, but it has been known to have been based on teacher's choice or popular vote, which can obviously lead to hurt feelings and favouritism). The Lucia performance is usually done either at the school or in a church.

The shape of the sommaravslutning varies a lot more from school to school, but it usually involves performances from either individual kids (usually singing, but could be something like dancing or playing an instrument as well) or whole classes singing as a choir (or both), and it's common for both traditional summer songs and more modern ones to be performed. Parents are generally invited to this, and the performances are usually followed by each class having cake together with their parents and teachers afterwards. Just like the Lucia celebrations, this can be held either at the school or in a church, but in recent years many schools have tried to steer away from religious venues as there may be students of other religions who would not be comfortable otherwise.

I would also say it's fairly common for schools to have art exhibitions for parents to show off what the children have made in art class, although it's not such a given part of every school's activities as the previous 2.

I'm so glad you liked the snippet!!!! Timeline wise "so build me a cottage of sunlight and stone" takes place right after "and played like a record on endless repeat", which if you remember ends with a conversation between Dream and XD about escalating Dream's villainy to the next level. Up until this point Dream has been mostly small-scale, harassing farmers and burning down buildings and committing petty thievery. And bothering Technoblade. (mostly bothering Technoblade). Now, though, he's stepping it up, because that's the only way to keep and hold Techno's attention, which Dream desperately needs to do. You're going to get more information on the nature of Dream's bet and why he needs to win it in the next chapter or two of "to a familiar tune we resist"! I'm so so so excited to post that next chapter. I just have to finish writing it.

Just to make it a bit easier if it was hard to follow - timeline is that when Techno was eight, the Blood God possessed him and used him to go on a killing spree and kill like, a whole third of the world. Dream met Technoblade shortly before he was fully possessed, when he was dying in the Creative God's garden (read: graveyard) and Dream saved him. (these are the events of "to a familiar tune we resist"). The Blood God was stopped from continuing the spree by ~interferences yet unknown~ and now, over a decade later, Dream and Technoblade meet again, this time as villain and hero. (these are the events of the first three fics in the series, "all my foundations are laid next to yours", "in part, in whole, in pieces", "and played like a record on endless repeat"). At the point of "so build me a cottage of sunlight and stone" in the timeline, I believe Dream and Technoblade have been facing off for about a year or so? I'm not looking at any of my reference materials at the moment, so I might be wrong, but that's what I remember off the top of my head. Things are going to continue to escalate after this for about another year or so, before the fic and scene that's I've had written for nearly three years occurs. I'm so excited to publish that, when it finally happens. If you have any more "kill me softer" questions, let me at 'em! I'd love to answer them.

Spooktober CAS

Activity:

For my activity this month, I attended Kickboxing classes every week. Each class is 1h 30min long, however, we spend around 20 min on stretching, doing abs and a warm-up at the beginning. Before each activity, our coach instructs us what to do by doing an example with another person. The activities are always done in pairs, therefore it is an advatage if you already have a pair. That's why I always go with my friend Wiktoria - she has similar pace and abilities, therefore we work good together. After every set, our coach always tells us to do activities like: jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-up etc. That's because these classes are not only meant to make as better at the sport, but also stronger and fitter. This month I noticed that I got better at stuff like recognising quicker where the punch is going and what move is required to avoid it, altough I still struggle with it when the pace is fast. When we were asked to do freestyle (do whatever punches or kicks you know but not hurting the other person) I have a tendency to back up and retreat whenever I know that my partner is about to attack. This is curious because I have no problem with attacking, I think that I just have to practise the defence methods more thoroughly then. I hope that these kickboxing sessions will make me more confindent about myself and my abilities. This is a photo taken in the changing room from one of our sessions.

Creativity:

This month I have continued my journey with learning how to play guitar. It all started when a big dream of mine started coming true (that is being kadra in KIK) and I realised that it would be nice if we had a person who played guitar by the fire on camps. I had a very old and small guitar at home and got to work. For the first month I taught myself the basic and not so basic chords, so I could play songs ASAP. This was a great tactic that I really recommend for self-learners for guitar - it's nicer to start playing very soon because it's easier to get hooked up on the playing instead of just learning the whole chords in the books which may result borning. I, however, had the advantage of a great determination, so it was difficult for me to give up. Due to my birthday having come up, I also got a new big guitar from my family which made the playing even more enjoyable. Additionaly, I started to enjoy playing quite quickly and just after 3 weeks of playing I was able to play a couple of songs in front of 20 people singing along. This made me really hooked up on the idea of playing for other people, getting requests for songs, others complimenting my playing etc. It made me reflect on how music is important in KIK camps - how it unites the children, how it's made a routine every evening by the fire, how it promotes a different way of spending time etc. This is a video of me trying to play the bridge to Dni których nie znamy by Marek Grechuta, which has quite a complex set of hand movements and has a very fast pace.

Service:

For service this month, my Kadra group and I have gone through the process of getting accepted by the KIK board. This involved an individual meeting with the clubs priest and then we went together to a meeting with the board. They said we needed one more older person who would take care of some challenging situations when we go to the forest for summer holidays. It took us about 3 weeks to find that person, however, during that time we still had meetings on our own - we discussed technical stuff like (who will have which role, the most important values for us as a group, some brainstorming for programs for camps, what we really want the children to learn and we discussed obrzędowość which is the final theme of the whole group). We spent hours making lists and brainstorming ideas. From this experience I have found that taking care of kids is not as easy as it seems, especially if you are in a KIK group - which is a totally different environment. Additionally, I was amazed by the amount of planning we did over the 3 weeks and when I was told that this is not even a quarter of the work we will do for the next 6 months (before we get the kids). I was recommended by a friend to listen to this band, and I am glad I did. Their new single ‘Fresh Squeeze’ is a banger. Here is my interview with Purée

Tell us your band history, how did you form etc?

Well.

Basically Matt and Mack were living together both doing their own music projects as solo artists but always found themselves coming back to the idea of forming a band. Jack was in another band at the time but eventually left and started jamming with Matt and Mack. The pair had discreetly always wanted this as they had gone to watch jack a few times and fell In love with the way he played.

after months of ideas flowing and hype building amongst the now group of 3 we knew a drummer was majorly needed.

One day Matt put a story on his Instagram

Reading, “if anyone is a drummer or knows a drummer hit me up!” Not expecting much at all.

The following day as Matt was swiping through story’s, Liam popped up playing drums. He was incredibly talented and full of energy so Matt messaged him instantly asking to come round for a jam. He told Mack quickly after this that Liam was in-fact

“the one.”

We often talk about that moment as Liam says he only put that story up in hopes that it would be seen by Matt and boy are we glad he did.

After a long while Liam finally came by and jammed with the group and instantly we knew that we had formed something incredible. An unbreakable bond with energy that was so electric all of us could feel it.

soon after that moment we wrote our first song together which turned out to be Braindead, our very first release.

From the start, we all knew each other reasonably well. But watching one another become the best of friends through music we created will always be a great joy for us for many, many years to come.

Did the covid pandemic interrupt your plans?

Well we basically formed at the start of it all which we take as a blessing. It gave us lots of time to write music and learn how each other worked. we took a lot of time creating and tailoring a set for when we could eventually get out there on a stage and make our debut.

it was a really smooth process.

I am a big fan of your single “fresh squeeze” what is the song about, and how was the recording process?

Fresh squeeze is one of our OG songs we wrote together.

Simply put, the song is written about Liams strange addiction to fruit juice. Apple, orange, pineapple, blackcurrant you name it, he loves it.

So we wrote a song about it lol.

Recording the song was pretty breezy considering we knew it so well, so it was just a matter of adding a few little fun things we had on our minds that we could only do in the studio.

We record at treetop studios which is located close to where we all live in the Adelaide hills and it is a wonderful place to let our ideas fly and see them come to life.

When you write a new song, is it a joint effort in a jam session, or does a certain member bring a song already written to the studio.

Most of the time, one person will bring a set of chords, a bass line, a drum beat or a lead line and we just kinda jam on it for a second.

Usually from there sparks fly and we start adding the other parts as we individually see fit. Then we work on a basic structure of the song and the direction it should take.

The whole process is very much a group effort and each member adds their own flair to each song which is one of our favourite parts of working together.

Are you currently in the studio?

Yes we are! Right now we are just finishing up our next single and also chipping away at an EP which includes some of our early music we wrote together. It’s kind of a story book of our beginning as a band and it means a lot to us.

What is your career highlight?

At our first city show we played our debut single to what we thought was a crowd of fresh ears, but it turned out more people knew the song than we had first expected and they were singing our lyrics back to us, THAT was an incredible feeling that we will always remember and cherish.

What is your favourite venue to play?

The crown and anchor will always be close to our hearts as it was the first venue we played in the city, being back a few times now we really, really love it.

What do you think of the Adelaide music scene?

Our experience so far in the scene is that it’s super tight nit, full of talent and a joy to be a part of. Meeting bands left right and centre with the same love of music is a really cool thing to be involved in, we love it.

What other Adelaide bands should we listen to?

Dorkz, the Tullamarine’s, more colour, and stormy Lou are some of our favourites

Have you got any upcoming gigs you’d like to promote?

Our next show is gonna be a good one!

On the 17th of June we are playing at the grace Emily hotel with sycamore and sun sick daisy!!!

We are super excited.

What is your dream gig? (Venue, support etc.)

We can’t really think of any specific venues but we would love to tour the country.

A dream would be to play alongside one of our favourite bands “Kitschen boy” who are based in Melbourne.

What are your short/ long term goals?

Short term we would like to get some more music out there and do our first ever single release show alongside just playing as many gigs as we can. Our long term goals are really just to travel Australia sharing our music to new people all over, hopefully in the form of a tour someday!
