When Bessie walked in, Mike was fiddling around with tape and wrapping paper. She set her stuff down at the door and walked over.

She leaned in and asked, “Ooh is that for Rick?”

Mike jumped. They'd been so engrossed with their wrapping they didn't notice her come in.

Bessie sat down at Abby’s sketching desk and asked, fully interested, “What did you get him?”

“Oh, just some new paint brushes,” Mike said casually. “I don't know how long he’s had his but the bristles are starting to bend at odd angles.”

“Can I see them?” she asked.

Mike shrugged, “I guess so.”

Bessie took one from the box Mike put them in and balanced it between her fingers. She ran her thumb through the bristles.

“Hm. They’re nice.”

“Well, they are camel hair.”

Bessie set the brush back in the box, and asked, “What do you think he got you?”

Mike paused and pondered this for a moment. “Knowing Rick, he probably got me something pretty and romantic.”

“Like a ring?”

“I hope not. I hate rings,” Mike replied. “And, uh, Bessie, could you help me wrap this? I can't get it to look nice.”

Bessie giggled, “Well, I’m twice as clumsy as you are.”

“Maybe we'll cancel each other out?” Mike asked, hopefully.

Mike stepped aside. Bessie cut a new sheet of wrapping paper, folded it around the box, then taped it up. It wasn't perfect but it was more neat than Mike had it.

“Thanks.”

“Sure thing.”

She grinned mischievously and leaned her head on her palms, “Now, what did you get me?”

“I’m not telling you! Wait a couple weeks. It won't hurt you.”

“Aw, that’s no fun.”

“What's not fun is telling you now and spoiling the surprise.”

“What did you get Abby?” she asked instead.

“I haven't gotten around,” Mike admitted. “What do you think she wants? You two are closer.”

“Hmm. She already has nice paint brushes. And she's well accessorized too.”

Mike laughed. “I guess in my head she’s hard to shop for.”

Bessie waved her hand, “No, she’s easy. If you make something, she'll love it.”

Mike’s eyes lit up. “I could always make a card.”

Bessie smiled, “See! Just make it artsy.”

“Thanks again Bessie.”

She nodded.

“Now we need some mistletoe.”

Mike blanched. “No, oh god.”

The pair fell into a fit of laughter.

thinking about the way psychics both are and are not a known factor in the world of mp100. the worldbuilding is light, allegorical, and comedic, but even meeting it where it's coming from, it paints a delightful picture of how the rest of the world relates to the supernatural shit.

like, clearly most people don't believe in psychic power, or at least they don't assume it to be real. but when confronted with it, the more common reaction seems to be along the lines of "ah shit, huh, makes sense i guess." inukawa knew mob is a psychic, and brought it up without hesitation, like oh yeah, this is a known thing, but was then surprised among the others to see how much mob can do. the talk show is difficult to interpret, because it was a trap set up for reigen specifically, but how things play out, it feels like being a legitimate psychic isn't quite as outlandish an idea as it would be in our world. actual psychics don't seem to be putting much effort into hiding (if they're even trying to hide), there's unions, the goverment can put together a psychic suicide squad, the news can show a giant broccoli flying, there's books with instructions to meet aliens that actually have some truth to them, and yet people aren't that aware. and yet again, people like mitsuura and amakusa exist.

it feels like the supernatural is... kinda boring? weird stuff just happens occasionally, and it doesn't have much bearing on people's lives. the rest of it works like how essential oils do actually have certain effects and uses (for example, insect repellent), but then there's just a mountain of bullshit and people selling you things, so you don't really bother with any of it. cases like mob feel like ball lightning, as in i remember reading about it right next to absolutely fake shit as a kid and being told it's not real, but it is real, but fucked if anyone knows what exactly it is and some of the reports and theories are suspicious as hell. just. weird shit in the world that's ultimately irrelevant and uninteresting to most people.

the delightful part is that this all reinforces the idea that psychic power is just one quality among many that people can have.

but also.

when reigen founded spirits and such. i do not know how exactly it works where i live, let alone in japan. but registering a business. don't you usually need to put down what type of business you're running? did he have to figure out a close enough option, or is there a standard one to pick for psychic business, something they're considered to fall under, or even a psychic specific one?

delighted by the thought that spirits and such is officially a spa or something instead of what the industry standard is. reigen either didn't know which one people usually pick, or chose against the standard because it was less of a hassle. or tax reasons. imagine.

Today I was watching Toddler Ro run around the colony doing his thing (mostly bugwatching) when he started to get tired. He's perfectly capable of going to bed by himself, but Henry came over to carry him to his crib anyway. I bet Ro thinks Henry is the coolest big brother ever. <3

Andy drew a very helpful label/sign on the ship landing platform in case the landing beacons weren't enough to let passing shuttles know where they were supposed to touch down.

We had guests from the Hare Clan, and one of them was our ex-colonist Boomer, who we let go in a Diplomatic Marriage event.

He is not married to Eggardus yet, but the Vikings of the Hare Clan did entomb him in a warcasket. Poor boy. I might not have liked him very much, but I think he deserved better than to be reduced to little more than a machine of war.

Then when the guests from the Hare Clan were departing, they left me this very thoughtful gift. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it or not. Part of me thinks it would be a very weird thing to use, but another part of me thinks it would be really, really funny.

Obviously House of Wolves Is a Renfield coded song. It definitely fits him during the early days of him being a familiar, he's severely Infatuated with Dracula and willing to do anything for him, while still acknowledging that hes an awful person for doing so

"tell me I'm a bad man, kick me like a stray", hes aware of what hes doing but hes starting to accept It, though he still knows he deserves punishments for It. Also dogboy Renfield

In my mind It's a song that would play while hes on a killing spree, embracing that hes a sinner and knowing that hes going to Hell. I think hes always suffered with catholic guilt because of his queerness and MCR are literally the kings of catholic guilt and homosexuality so the song Is about him sinning by killing people and by being gay

For the 2nd song I'd have to say It's Not a Fashion Statement, It's a Deathwish because It's about being revived and Immortality. I think Dracula has had to revive Renfield dozens of times over the years and now Ren has turned Into an almost Immortal being. It's literally like In the actual story for Three Cheers, because the devil keeps bringing the Demolition Man back to life over and over again just so he can kill people. (Renny and the Demolition Man are very similar, at least to me) Also I think at the last verse Is kind of like him singing to Dracula about how one day they'll be dead together, since he still has some hope that Dracula can die

Also "from the razor to the rosary, we could lose ourselves and paint these walls in pitchfork red" Is such a perfect lyric for them. Murderous husbands

3rd song Is Famous Last Words, It fits Renfield post-Dracula so well. He's finally free and able to live his life again, he's no longer afraid of being alive. Although Renfield still loves Dracula, he Isn't scared of being alone because he has discovered he can find new purposes In life and he no longer needs Dracula to make him feel complete.

"A love that's so demanding, I get so weak, a love that's so demanding, I can't speak" Its literally him and Dracula! His love for his Master has turned him Into a weak-willed and obedient servant, rather than an equal lover. He Is devoted to Dracula, while Dracula could let him go and not feel even the tiniest bit of guilt or regret (at least In Renfield's eyes). He literally can't speak because he's spent all of his life In Dracula's shadow, always quiet and unable to express his own thoughts, forced to listen to and obey Dracula's demands.

He's no longer the quiet, obedient follower that he was molded Into, he Is free from hiding In the shadows and fearing every moment he's alive. Now he has the power and bravery to keep on living.

once again thinking about the mass effect x sw prequels crossover that exists entirely in my head where during ME3 they find another prothean beacon but when shepard activates it, it teleports her halfway across the universe

and she lands directly in the middle of the clone wars, smack between the 501st and 212th facing off against a droid factory

after hurried introductions, they find out that shepard's black widow rifle can take out droidekas in like two shots, so she's immediately on the team. she is fascinated by obi-wan and anakin's 'invisible biotics' and they are fucking horrified when she releases a biotic lash-charge-nova combo that takes out literally a hundred droids in under 10 seconds
