OVERVIEW: "The third and final Rick Griffin and Alton Kelley collaboration (Griffin often collaborated with Victor Moscoso, and Kelley of course worked with Stanley Mouse on virtually all of his compositions) was a good example of both artists' use of contemporary advertising in their design. The poster features a taxi cab checker design with an "Abba-Zabba" candy bar wrapper and image of monkey working on transistor. Abba-Zabbas were candy bars made at the time by the Cardinet Candy Company of Oakland, across the Bay from San Francisco. Perhaps a favorite of one of the artists?

This poster advertises the very first tour of DEEP PURPLE who had a hit single, “Hush,” that reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It would be a few more years before they hit the real Big Time with the heavy metal classic, “Smoke on the Water.” Here they opened for SF-based IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY who were getting massive Bay-Area airplay with their hits, “White Bird,” and “Hot Summer Day.”

Drow Name Tables

Something I did as a special favor to @kimmurielsscryingmirror (@eldritchmist ) who showed interest. Because it’s...pretty big I decided to make it into it’s own post.

These are a few Drow naming tables that were originally found in an issue of Dragon Magazine. It’s two d100 tables of prefixes and suffixes commonly used in first names. The second couple of tables is a list of common house name prefixes and suffixes.

EDIT: Just a little something for those who care which I didn’t add before because it took me so long to finish the transcription I just wanted to post it lol. The gender difference is noted in the related Dragon Magazine article as being significant. Non Drow may not notice but a Drow will notice the difference. Female names sometimes borrow parts that are normally only considered male and this is considered fine...but a male with a name that borrows a typically only female part would be seen as extremely taboo.

St Louis is where storms collide.

Without the moderating effect of a coastline or major mountain range, cold air sweeps unopposed down from the Arctic to meet a warm, humid front marching north from the Gulf of Mexico. The two finally lock in combat over the Mississippi flatlands, emptying their arsenals to barrage the area with blizzards, thunderstorms, and tornados. In recent years, growing climate chaos has only intensified this ambient war, each “extreme weather event” more volatile and less predictable. And as the air currents grapple over the middleAmerican sky, the storm-swollen Mississippi grinds forward below. Once-uncommon “freak floods” are now standard, the levees overcome every few years and large chunks of St Louis and its surrounding suburbs washed away by the intractable inertia of a river bound to outlive any city.

The result is another slow apocalypse.

In January 2016, people from the surrounding suburbs poured into Red Cross shelters, unable to return to homes torn apart by the rising water. But even with such disasters gradually becoming the new, more violent equilibrium, federal aid is perpetually insufficient. [...] Politics in these conditions can only appear apolitical, as all functional organizing is given political significance when confronted with devastation of such scale: Baptists and Mennonites organizing supply caravans through the wreckage of long-decayed postwar suburbs, the crosses emblazoned on their white vans floating above silt-clogged cul-de-sacs.

Such stories of environmental destruction are, however, only one dimension of a much-deeper global economic catastrophe that takes different forms in different regions.

In many ways, St Louis is a city without a region, stuck between the Midwest, the South, and the Great Plains -- and as such it seems to act as a sort of vaguely generalizable image of a mythic middle America slowly being lost. Economically, it’s an intersection between Rust Belt and Corn Belt, only barely outside the new sunbelt yet falling short of its river-port counterparts. It was one of the many cities left behind by the wave of deindustrialization. After its postwar heyday, the entire metro area saw massive population loss, at first concentrated downtown but soon spreading out to neighboring suburbs as well. This process only deepened long-standing racial divides. Meanwhile, attempts to resuscitate the city by focusing on capital-intensive manufacturing and biotech have only ensured a further cloistering of wealth and a hardening of racial divides between neighborhoods.

Today postwar houses and small clusters of low-rise apartment complexes are sprinkled out across the humid floodplain. When the river overspills its levees, entire suburban cities can be washed away, as was the case in the small, predominantly white working-class suburb of West Alton in 2016. Wedged between the Missouri and Mississippi, just before their confluence north of St Louis proper, the entire city was evacuated, with a quarter to a third of the population expected never to return. There are small islands of gentrification within the city proper, as well as the remains of more affluent suburbs, largely west of the city -- the foremost of these being small municipalities like Town and Country, a largely white golf course suburb that boasts the highest median income of any city in Missouri. These richer locales are buffered by a spectrum of poorer ones [...].

In St Louis, these divergent dynamics are colliding, and the city is being reshaped according to this economic battle, itself only an echo of that greater chaos foreboded by warring storms.

TRUE CRIME - PT. 1

Ricky McCormick Cypher

My first True Crime blog post will be on the Ricky McCormick Cypher.

If you don’t know what a cypher is, here is a definition; A cypher is a message written in a secret code; a secret or disguised way of writing; a code.

This case is somewhat of a cold case, and at first the case was classified as a homicide, but was later determined otherwise.

Ricky McCormick was a high school dropout who had held multiple addresses in the Greater St. Louis area, living intermittently with his elderly mother. According to a 1999 article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, McCormick suffered from chronic heart and lung problems. He was not married, but had fathered at least four children. He had a criminal record, and had previously served 11 months of a three-year sentence for statutory rape. At the time of his death, he was 41 years old, unemployed, and receiving disability welfare payments.

McCormick's body was found on June 30, 1999, in a cornfield near West Alton, Missouri by a woman driving along a field road near Route 367. The reason he was 15 miles (24 km) away from his then-current address is another mystery, as he did not own a car and the area was not served by public transportation. Though the body had already somewhat decomposed, authorities used fingerprints to identify McCormick. There was no indication that anyone had a motive to kill McCormick and no one had reported him missing. As such, the authorities initially ruled out homicide; however, no cause of death was officially determined at the time. McCormick was last seen alive five days earlier, on June 25, 1999, getting a checkup at St. Louis's now-defunct Forest Park Hospital.

The two notes found in McCormick's pockets are written in an unknown code consisting of "a jumble of letters and numbers occasionally set off with parentheses" and are believed by the FBI to possibly lead to those responsible for the killing. Dan Olson, chief of the FBI's Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Records Unit, said, illustrating the significance of the notes, "Breaking the code could reveal the victim's whereabouts before his death and could lead to the solution of a homicide." Attempts by both the FBI's Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Records Unit (CRRU) and the American Cryptogram Association failed to decipher their meaning, and Ricky McCormick's encrypted notes are currently listed as one of CRRU's top unsolved cases, with McCormick's killer yet to be identified. According to members of McCormick's family, Ricky had used encrypted notes as a boy, but none of them knew how to read the code.

To this day, the code has yet to be deciphered. Yet, there is speculation on the internet as to what the note reads as.

Not much is known about her daughters. They are rarely, if ever seen. Since the mother only lets them leave their castle at night. And warns them to stay away from humans.

Naturally, the blame for the missing villagers immediately goes to the vampire family up west. Not knowing who (or what) else can be responsible. They decide to offer a villager as a tribute. Hoping that the sacrifice would satisfy the vampire’s hunger and cease the murders. Who was taken to be sacrificed? A noble woman. Very poor. And she did not agree to it. At all. In fact, she fights with the men who carry her to the vampire’s door step.

They leave her there with a scroll. Describing the situation and begging the vampires to leave their village alone. To stop killing their people. When the mother finds the woman, she has no interest in killing her. Or even hurting her. Nor do her daughters. If it is not them who is responsible…then who is it? And what will they do with this noble?

She is still very tall, has 3 daughters, hates men, and is a vampire. But she does NOT turn into a giant dragon monster if she does not consume human flesh and blood. Since she does not have the parasite. I am looking for someone to play the vampire mother and her 3 daughters.

The plot goes on with the noble woman being let into the vampire’s house. As a servant. The mother is at first cold towards her. And wonders why she isn’t terrified of her. Like everyone else. But she bonds with one of her daughters. Which gets her curious about the little human. Soon, reaching her soft side. And falling in love. Keep in mind that this plot takes place during the 14th century.

I am looking for advanced-lit or novella writers (several paragraphs with proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation). Who are also active throughout the day. I prefer to have constant activity.
