The Collector: childish innocence or malicious immaturity. A rant
Since he was introduced I wasn’t really sure how I was supposed to feel about the collector. This silly entity literally at Belos’s shadow was amusing, clearly a powerful being, limited by being trapped in a disk(?)
Ive seen posts describing the Collector as a child and I think we all by now know the Enzo Gabriel meme. That the Collector is nothing but a spoiled child with too much power… And for all we know he Could be. We don’t know how old he truly is but they have been around for a LONG while. Longer than Belos. Longer than The Titan maybe. How do you translate how “old” a being that is seemingly immortal is into terms we can understand? CAN the Collector grow? Is it a Steven Universe scenario where the mental maturity is shown in growth? Is there a cycle to his growth?
This got long so more thoughts under the cut
But I think describing the Collector as a kid downplays the malice in their actions. One could argue that they are so powerful they don’t understand how much they hurt others, but I don’t think that’s the case. They KNOW they could kill Belos with a single TOUCH. Not even a flick of his finger. Heck he might have been capable of exploding Belos with a Thought and the touch was just limiting themself to the rules of tag. They are aware how much they are capable of, but what fun is there in immediately winning? Like a predator chasing a prey they KNOW can’t escape but are just toying with them for the thrill of the hunt.
His first words after being freed are “whatcha playing?” Right after he stopped Belos from hurting Luz and co. He sees these kids about to get sliced up and sees it as a game. Is it a taunt? Are they aware not everything is a game and doesn’t care or is he genuinely stuck with a mind of a child? Does he find glee in the suffering of others or are they incapable of understanding the fragility of mortals? After living so long seeing so many die there has to be some desensitization to the death of others.
The Collector is childish but that doesn’t mean he is innocent. The Titan trapped them in their disk prison for a Reason, allegedly dying in the process. (Or maybe the Collector got his cult to do it after he was trapped but that opens more questions regarding said cult and we don’t have a lot of information on them) we know the Collector turned the Owl Beast into a curse. How many more creatures faced the same fate? How many monsters and demons have fallen victims of the Collector’s games? Still, they seem to accept and fulfill rules or promises (tag rules, pinkie swears) As childish as the language is, it still could mean that at the least the Collector keeps his promises and follows the rules of games they accept to play. (This will definitely come into play, pun intended, when telling the Collector the “Rules” of King’s game of Owl House)
So is the Collector evil? Is there malice in his actions? Perhaps they are simply apathetic to the weak mortals that surround him. There is definitely no innocence. Imo, there’s only immaturity. It’s not that they are not aware, they just don’t care. And why would they? They have the power to move the moon with a swipe of their finger. He can do anything. If he wants to use the BI as his playground there is nothing that can stop them. I don’t think they want friends, they just want players. All we can hope is that, when the gang returns to join the Collector’s game, he plays fair.

About Kris being the Knight and Asriel's role in the final battle
An interesting thing about Deltarune is how roles seem to be somehow swapped in relation to Undertale. Alphys is still related to science, what with being a teacher and all, Undyne is still related to the role of a guardian and keeping people safe in general, Asgore still loves gardens and is a fluffybun, despite Toriel FINALLY getting her role as a teacher, she is still the protective mother figure...
Everyone is still in their "original roles", only slightly swapped to fit Deltarune's new reality. And the same reasoning can be applied to Kris and Asriel...only this time things do seem a lot more different.
In Undertale, the one creature causing all sorts of trouble in the background and setting events in motion in the game is Gaster Flowey. Yes, he's the one who whispers predictions to Papyrus, the one who warns Muffet about your arrival to Hotlands, who writes the threatening letter to Alphys and unlocks the True Lab for the player to visit, that is to say, the hidden hand behind (almost) everything, interfering with the natural flow of the game to make sure they get things to evolve according to HIS way and try to beat the Player's Determination, which is supposed to be unbeatable.
So he's the agent warping the world according to his will and playing the role of a villain.
In Deltarune, who is now playing that role? Who is setting events in motion and causing trouble to our heroes - Susie, Berdly, Noelle, etc - behind the scenes?
That's right. Asriel's best friend from Undertale, now given a new identity. None other than Kris.
Which makes me think the prophesized saviour in the Darkner's tale won't be Kris -who has readily been identified as the Villain -... but possibly Asriel upon their return.
Doesn't Asriel turn into an Angel when summoning the seven SOULS? This hints at him being the prophesized Angel and a being capable of great destruction...or in DR's case, of miraculous deeds, such as being the only one capable of wielding formidable power and becoming the true Saviour of the World.
It's quite possible that, should Kris opt to follow the Genocide route or fail to prevent a Darkner from stealing a human SOUL and traveling to the Light World, he'll accidentally create a Titan and unleash the Roaring in the process. Asriel then returns from college in the seventh day to find his home town destroyed and everything covered in Darkness. Should Kris lose his friends because he chose Genocide, Asriel becomes the hero that fights him and "banishes the Angel's Heaven" (that part of the prophecy still doesn't make any sense). But should Kris follow the pacifist path, Asriel may team up with him to help defeat the Titan.
There's also the possibility that Asriel may have to fight his brother if Kris decides he wants the Light World to remain covered in Darkness and Asriel must fight him alongside Susie and the others to defeat the Knight so that they may bring down the Titans.
Of course, there are many more possibilities for how the story will go down. It might be another Lightner that becomes the Knight, such as Berdly or Susie - or even all our heroes may opt to open fountains and doom the Light World -, but for now, Kris is still the likely candidate to become the Knight and the Final Boss in the game. People may speculate Susie will then assume the role of the hero, but if we are considering Deltarune and Undertale to be mirror universes, then Susie isn't the Knight's antithesis, since she's absent from Undertale. That role is more suited to Asriel, who has a deep, strong connection to The (Fallen) Human, a connection usually fully revealed at the end of the game. While The Human is the Hero and Asriel is the Villain in UT, in DR their roles might be swapped. Let's wait and see.
With that said, I'd like to remind you this is all mere speculation and the truth is still a long ways to be revealed. Let us hope Chapters 3 and 4 will bring some answers and help us make sense of UT and DR's strange universe.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
#yeehaw#1k#5k#10k#posts that got cursed. blasted. im making these tag updates after... 19 hours?#also i have been told it should say speech loss bc nonverbal specifically refers to the permanent state. did not know that!#unfortunately i fear it is so far past containment that even if i edited it now it would do very little. but noted for future reference#edit 2: nvm enough ppl have come to rb it from me directly that i changed the wording a bit. hopefully this makes sense#also. in case anyone is curious. though i doubt anyone who is commenting these things will check the original tags#1) my friend did not do this on purpose in any way. it was not intended to distract me or to hit on me. im a lesbian hes a gay man. cmon now#he felt very bad about it afterwards. i thought it was hilarious but it was very embarrassed and apologetic#2) “why didn't he use 🫵🏼?” didn't exist yet. “why didn't he use 🆗?” dunno! we'd been using a lot of hand emojis. 👌🏼 is an ok sign#like it makes sense. it was just a silly mixup. also No i did not invent 👉🏼👌🏼 as a gesture meaning sex. do you live under a rock#3) nonspeaking episodes are a recurring thing in my life and have been since i was born. this is not a quirky one-time thing#it is a pervasive issue that is very frustrating to both myself and the people i am trying to communicate with. in which trying to speak is#extremely distressing and causes very genuine anguish. this post is not me making light of it it's just a funny thing that happened once#it's no different than if i post about a funny thing that happened in conjunction w a physical disability. it's just me talking abt my life#i don't mind character tags tho. those can be entertaining. i don't know what any of you are talking about#Except the ppl who have said this is pego/ryu or wang/xian. those people i understand and respect#if you use it as a writing prompt that's fine but send it to me. i want to see it#aaaand i think that's it. everyday im tempted to turn off rbs on it. it hasn't even been a week

EVERY SINGLE DAY there are MILLIONS of characters in their late 20s who get falsely accused of being father figures to teenagers when in reality the description of "weird older cousin" or "step-sibling that moved out before you were born" is 1000000x more apt

Keep seeing that post where OP starts like 'Thinking about...grieving the undead' and then adds on about like. Real life situations where people have not died but have left your life and you would have reason to grieve them.
All respect, that's an important concept, but that is not what I am thinking about when I read 'grieving the undead'.

As a reminder that good exists out there, a coworker recently confessed to me that he found out his child is questioning their identity (kid's gender redacted for this post). The kid is keeping it from him, so he can't say anything to them or show that he knows, but he's doing his best to get mentally prepared and educated so that he'll be ready whenever his kid does feel comfortable enough come to him.
For context, this guy is a big, bulky middle aged dude who loves sports and typical outdoor "manly" activities. As his coworker and friend, I know he's a kind and sweet teddy bear of a person, but his kid probably views him as a stern, authoritarian figure, the way most teenagers view their parents. His family lives in a conservative area, so I'm sure between that, their dad's looks and interests, and the fact that their dad is a Figure of Authority, the kid is worried that they won't be accepted.
But you know what? When he found out about his kid, the first thing he did was reach out to his closest queer friend and ask for resources for parents of questioning children. His biggest fears are that his kid will be bullied or discriminated against and won't feel comfortable enough to be themself. His second action was to find himself a mentor in another parent who went the same situation (kid coming out in a conservative town). The other person is preparing him for some of the struggles his kid may face and the fights he may need to take on as a parent to make sure his kid is safe and treated well.
Something I want to emphasize for people focused on language as the primary method of allyship is that when we spoke, he used some outdated terms and thoughts about gender and sexuality. That does not make him bad. These were the terms and thinking used about questioning teenagers when he was growing up and he never needed to learn more current ones. But now that he does have that need, he's throwing himself in head first because that's his kid and he's darn well going to make sure that his kid feels welcomed and has a safe place to be themselves even if they never come out to him.

why is religious Christmas imagery all so joyful and pleasant? where is the inherent horror of the birth of Christ? A mother is handed her newborn child, wailing and innocent. Her hands come away sticky. Red. Simply by giving her son life she has already killed him. He is doomed from the beginning. Her love will not save him from suffering. Because the thing cradled in her arms is not a baby, it is a sacrifice: born amongst the other bleating animals whose blood will one day be spilled in the name of what demands it. the night is silent with anticipation. Mary, did you know? That your womb was also a grave?

I think one of the biggest tragedies of Laios & Falin and their relationship is how much his actions impact her life. But like. Specifically how much they WOULDN’T impact her life as much if they weren’t both stuck in such a shitty abusive situation.
This part of the Falin-tries-makeup daydream hour comic is what got me thinking about it again because truly it just... it seems like such a like an offhand comment that I'm sure Laios didn't mean to be cruel or anything. That's just like. A little kid not thinking about what they are saying. ESPECIALLY when the kid in question is Laios.
Tumblr media
But man they depended on each other SO much as kids. Too much. It really feels like they didn't have any other source of positive reinforcement, or anyone else to share themselves with. So of course an offhand comment like that has a huge impact on Falin.
Or this little bit from one of the flashbacks:
Tumblr media
This tears me apart. Do you think it tears him apart to think about? I think it does. I think Laios holds every small failure to care for Falin against himself.
Tumblr media
And then there's the Bigger stuff. The way that him coping with his own trauma ended up impacting her.
Like his interest in monsters. Like him going to find a ghost, and accidentally revealing Falin's magic to the whole village in the process.
Like him needing to leave. And leaving her behind.
He shaped her life so much, and he carries so much guilt for it. And again, there should have been other people there to help. The same things that made Laios need to leave home are the things that made his leaving so hard on Falin. She ate alone after that. She shouldn't have had to eat alone just because Laios wasn't there.
She was 9 when he left for school, and he was 11.
Tumblr media
Nine. And Laios feels like he failed her because he didn't stand by her through this better. As an eleven year old.
Tumblr media
Both of these kids deserved so much better from the world.
