hi. i would just like to say that this is an attitude i've seen around increasingly often and i find it deeply baffling. like, genuinely could not relate any less to what is being expressed here.

personally, almost all media i'm obsessed with and talk about constantly is because i think it's good and i love talking about the ways in which it's good. yes, criticism can be fun and breed conversation, but so can positive critique. thoughtful, long-lasting engagement with a piece of media doesn't have to be negative. there are in fact ways for media to be good beyond "competent but generally unremarkable"?

and this is ymmv, but complaining about something is more the snack food of media criticism for me. it's fun and great in the moment and it absolutely is something i need to do regularly to feel normal. but i can't live off it. i need to experience genuine appreciation and esteem on a regular basis too, or i shrivel like a raisin. (expressed more seriously: the kind of critique i find actually nourishing in the sense that it allows me to refine what kind of art i would like to make, and what makes me tick as a human being, is the positive kind about media i love very much for being excellent.)

Finally figured out the full line for my hellbender fakemon, plus an ancient crinoid the line relies on. The final evolutions are supposed to play on fool’s gold, looking and acting regal despite the evolution items coming from a jester-themed fakemon. Though the final evolutions are alternately water and fire, both learn moves of the other’s type.

#edward iv #english history #that's a really good point I think #Edward IV was definitely in a wildly different and far more vulnerable situation from other 15th century usurpers #Henry IV and Richard III both had the usurped kings in their control and both Richard II and Edward V were childless so their usurpers #didn't have to worry about direct heirs #Henry VII defeated Richard in battle and was thus not only able to avoid the stain of regicide but was also able to gain added legitimacy #God-given victory in battle; divinely ordained triumph etc #Richard III also didn't have any legitimate heirs & hadn't formally declared anyone else his heir either #(and was himself viewed as an usurper himself by many) #So without discounting their difficulties they were all ultimately 'de-facto' kings from the beginning. Meanwhile Edward IV lacked that #across his 'first reign' and still somehow managed to get through which I think is actually pretty impressive imo? All things considered? #Ofc that's not to say that the circumstances were totally neat-and-clean for Henry IV Richard III and Henry VII - that's laughably untrue #But it was fundamentally different and more 'secure' in comparison to *Edward IV's* specifically #(John Guy talks about this in 'Tudor England' as well) #That's not even getting into how Edward IV was so much younger than the other three usurpers (he was 18 to their 32 30 and 28 respectively) #when he ascended the throne.
