just had my first midterm for my online class. we were told that consulting our materials during the test was technically permitted but strongly discouraged due to time constraints. well the test was a whole lot shorter than i anticipated so i fully spent the second half of the time given just checking all my answers with the course materials. i think i'm in the right but i do feel like i cheated lmao

#there were three short answer questions that idk about yet #but it showed the score without those questions and i got 100% of them correct #i also feel a bit bad bc people in the group chat were complaining about the test having content they didn't study for #and like i fully agree with them i did not feel prepared for some of those questions #but also the textbook was right there and control f is super handy with a pdf #it makes me wonder if they saw the 'strongly discouraged' thing and decided they were honor-bound not to look up answers #but it said permitted!!! and the reasoning given was about running out of time and i definitely was not running out of time so #idk i'm not actually really worried about this unless i somehow do suspiciously way better than everyone else #which i think is unlikely #here is that grad school tag #j.txt

To b honest I don't understand the appeal of Jason being Damian's league of assassins buddy for multiple reasons(partially because the only way Jason and Damian would interact on a positive level during that time period is 100% non-canon interpretations of both of them) but I think the most prevelant one is that Steph and Dick made Damian want to be the person he is now because they were so different from him, and could provide him w/ a point of view that he couldn't see on his own, especially wrt to Steph. They literally kick start his examination of the value of a life(including his own sans expectations and success)/what Batman has to mean and built it up brick by brick. Without them Damian isn't...Damian? Which I guess could be the point but, I mean, fuck it, if we rlly want to do an alternate origin with a dose of ex assassin turned batkid hang time I think it would be 1000% more interesting with Cass. Best fighter in the world who refuses to kill due to it being her deepest, most inescapable regret and a 10 yr old who thinks he's hot shit and disagrees? I WISH we got a femme fatale. It would have been incredibly cathartic for her to make herself alluring to Clear Sky, turning his worst traits against him and getting both power and revenge. For Thunder to bond to her over it, reaching the conclusion in the end that they both had terrible parents that they need to reject.

but, knowing the Erins, they would have just had Clear Sky kill her violently and gratuitously for ever tricking him. Like how he gouged Willow Tail's eyes out. So... I guess we were doomed either way.

In general I enjoyed it and I think it had #a lot of important things to say but also maybe highlighted some weaknesses(?) in both books? #or - I guess just the fact that the sff stuff (which skews a little more magicy here) is kinda small scope relative to its potential #and more there to serve the plot and characters. Which actually maybe is the point. idk- there's def mixed reviews lol #it has a messy unlikable MC (like actually - when half the weak ass reviews are saying the MC is annoying you know they are Actually a #complex character) and some interesting relationship dynamics #it is pretty solidly a sequel - I wouldnt read this without reading TSBW #cara does show up in here& tbh her characterisation felt quite different to me? unsure how I feel about that? but maybe it's the biased POV #also to be clear: polyam MC; not a polyam romance or anything #(there's - kinda a romance? or various feelings floating around and she 'ends up' with someone. feel like i would have liked that to end #more subtley but that's probably my personal taste lol) #man some of the 1 star reviews of this are kinda.....just racist though. can we get some measured critique in here #as I said i am not entirely sure how I feel about it but not quite in a way I can articulate.... idk! i think it's worth the read tho #it's maybe one of those revolutions that feels solved a little too easily in the end - but then also is it solved or is it just that the #narrative has to end at a certain point
