Still, there is this terrible desire to be loved. Still, there is this horror at being left behind.

There were two things Kang Sunhye knew before the age of thirteen. One, she wanted to be nothing like her mother. Two, she was everything like her mother.

Here is how it starts, years before she is even born: Kang Sumin was a freshly debuted idol at the age of sixteen. Ahn Jaesun was twenty three and one of YG’s music producers, most importantly, he was Sumin’s. It was only two years later in 1994, on Sumin’s eighteenth birthday, that she fell pregnant with their first child, Ahn Jiho.

The announcement only a few months later when she couldn’t hide it anymore still remains one of the biggest scandals in history.

Still, she persevered. She tried everything she could to get back on track after Jiho’s birth; she even sent him far away to her parents in Texas, but YG dismissed her, effectively putting her on indefinite hiatus. She was a mother now, not an idol, Kang Sumin would bitterly repeat Yang Hyunsuk’s words years later in a drunken rant to her daughter about how her children ruined her life.

Kang Sumin was not supposed to be just a mother or a wife. She was not one to be tied down.

A year later, she had her second and last child with Ahn Jaesun. For someone who was adamant on her children ruining her life, she sure did continue on having them.

What was that saying? Misery loves company.

Two years after Jaesuk’s birth, two years since she abandoned her second child with her parents, Sumin was having a comeback. She had finally got what she had wanted, yet the day before the release, everything came crumbling down for the third time.

In an adrenaline high, tipsy from the cheap beer her manager bought for her and her team of staff and backup dancers, Kang Sumin made the worst mistake of her life. In a family bathroom of the YG building, she closed her eyes and ignored the sense of impending doom as she kissed one of her backup dancers while her husband was on the other side of the building and her children across the world.

A year later, her third and final child’s birth was different from the others. It was grueling, time consuming. It took thirty-six hours, much longer compared to the measly ten and seven hours respectively. Instead of a natural birth like her first two, the doctors had to resort to a C-Section. Her once perfect, flawless body that she had worked so hard for after childbirth was carved into; scarred forever.

Sumin refused to hold her only daughter, too distraught with her new reality. Jaesun was the one to name her.

Kang Sunhye came into this world crying and screaming and never stopped.

Sunhye was in church when she found out.

Like the good girl she was, she followed in her grandparents’ and brothers’ footsteps, believing in an all-powerful-being. She prayed every meal, every night before bed, she sang in the church choir with the rest of the kids, and she went every Sunday.

It started as any other Sunday, she’d put on her nice church dress, ironed neatly, her black Mary-Janes that were polished and shiny, with her hair in a half updo and a pretty bow tied at the top. She sang with the choir, smiling every time her family and her met eyes. She ignored the feeling when she saw the two empty seats next to her grandparents. It was always like that.

Sunhye missed the exchange of looks between her brothers, phones hidden in their hands with an article from Naver on the screen. She only noticed something was wrong when her grandparents were no longer paying attention, instead hunched over in their seats with their eyes on the pair of cellphones. She finished singing the last verse, watching her family tear their eyes away from the devices and clap, less enthusiastically than the other parents.

She remained quiet as she made her way back to the church pew, sitting in between her brothers like she always did. Her brothers avoided her gaze as her grandparents beckoned for them to stand up and leave. She could feel the confused eyes of the other families on them as they left, her ears burning. They never left early, they were usually one of the last to leave, helping the Pastor clean up.

The car ride was silent, no matter how much she begged for them to answer her.

Sunhye was not expecting her mother to be in her home when they arrived. The last time she saw her was a few months ago at Christmas. Her parents usually stayed in South Korea, where they were from. She couldn’t remember what they did for a career.

She didn’t even get a chance to greet her before her grandparents started yelling, startling the nine-year-old. It was a mix of Korean and English, the confused girl watching the three like it was a tennis match as Jiho went to his room, slamming the door behind him. It didn’t pause the yelling.

“— An affair? Are you kidding me, Sumin?”

“It’s all lies, you know how they—”

“If it were a lie, you wouldn’t have ran away,” her grandfather’s words made the room go silent.

Sunhye was not stupid. She was at a ninth grade reading level in the fourth grade. She had read things like this. But she never expected it to happen to her. She stared blankly at her mother, her beautiful, perfect mother who could do no wrong. But she did do wrong.

Jaesuk laid a hand on her shoulder, making her flinch in surprise. Sumin started to say something to defend herself, but her grandmother spat back, “Adultery is a sin, you know this. He would be so disappointed in you.” Sumin stared back, jaw clenching. Jaesuk tugged Sunhye to the staircase, gently pulling her up and to her room.

Once the door clicked behind them, Sunhye turned and asked with tears brimming, “Is it true?”

Jaesuk swallowed, eyes darting around. If there was anyone who loved their parents with their entire being, it was Sunhye. She loved and trusted them so much, she’d choose them over anyone else any day. She believed in them wholeheartedly, despite the fact that neither were hardly in her life. The dance recitals, church choir, science fairs, her grandparents and her brothers were the ones there. Not them. Yet they were her idols.

He didn’t want to tell her the truth. But he didn’t want to lie, either. No matter what he did, he knew it would change her view on them forever. He briefly thought, with some sick sense of relief and selfishness, that maybe it would be better off for her to not blindlessly love them so much.

“It happens,” the words fell out of Jaesuk’s mouth. “Maybe they fell out of love, and are separated without telling us. That wouldn’t be cheating,” he didn’t even believe in his words. He stared at her, studying her expression. She didn’t believe his words, either.

“I don’t get it,” she murmured, breaking eye contact, “I thought they were in love.”

“One thing about you is that you see life through rose tinted glasses,” Jaesuk sighed, deciding he wouldn’t try to protect her anymore. Maybe it was time for her to grow up. She blinked, remembering the phrase from a book she read before. “You see what you want to believe. You love them so much, you ignore all their flaws. Your first reaction is to love and defend them, no matter what.” Sunhye’s mouth parted to defend their parents, before closing. He gave her a gentle look, “It’s not your fault. Every kid wants to believe their parents are perfect. It was only a matter of time before you realized it. Better now than never.”

Jaesuk had decided that was enough for the day, pressing a kiss on her head and going to his own room. She could still hear the voices of her grandparents and mother downstairs.

When did her brothers stop believing in their parents? What did they see that she couldn’t?

Silently, she took off her dress and switched it for her lounge clothes, placing everything back where it belonged. She listened to the muffled yelling of her grandparents, briefly wondering how long this could go on for before she sat in her desk chair and powered on her laptop.

Each of the siblings had their own laptop after their grandparents got tired of listening to them fight over it. Of course, it was restricted and they were always carefully monitored. Except for this time, they were too busy yelling at her mother.

Once it was loaded, she started typing Kang Sumin into the search bar. The first article that popped up was recent, from one hour ago. She clicked it, and began reading.

Rumors of Kang Sumin’s Affairs

‘A’ is alleging that Kang Sumin had an affair with a backup dancer.

On March 11th, ‘A’ posted screenshots of text messages from a man who reportedly used to be a backup dancer of Kang Sumin’s. The messages reported that on the night before Sumin’s comeback after having her first two children, the two were seeing each other romantically in private. The man states that he is not proud of the person he used to be, and that he can’t go on any longer when he still sees Kang Sumin’s husband, Ahn Jaesun, around the company halls.

He then provides proof, sending multiple photos of love letters from Sumin, detailing their times together and ending with a love confession and her signature.

Netizens are speculating that this would’ve happened right before Sumin’s comeback in 1999, right before the final time Sumin would get pregnant with her daughter.

Her throat had started to itch long before she finished reading the rest of the comments, tears streaming down her cheeks as loud, ugly sobs threatened to crawl out. She hiccuped with every other breath, gasping for air as she pressed a hand to keep her cries in. She pushed herself away from her desk, throwing her body into her bed and screaming into her pillow.

Sunhye didn’t know how long she was crying for, she didn’t hear the click of her bedroom door opening and her mother’s sigh. She only recognized that someone else was in the room with her when a hand rested on her back gently.

“My sweet girl, why are you crying?” Her mother hummed melodically, raking her fingernails through her soft hair. When was the last time her mother talked to her like this? “You’re far too young to be sad.”

She hated when people said that. You’re too young to be acting like this. You’re too young to be sad. You’re too young to be like this. And then— you’re too old to be crying like a baby. You’re too old to play with dolls. You’re too old to watch cartoons. She was nine. She hadn’t even reached double digits yet.

She sniffled, deciding to keep her mouth shut as she squeezed her eyes shut tightly, hoping that if she continued to ignore her, she’d go away. Sunhye was stubborn, and she’d continue for as long as she had to.

Unfortunately, like mother, like daughter.

Sumin sat on the edge of her bed, a manicured hand on the back of her neck firmly, “Don’t ignore me, Sunhye. What’s the matter?” Her voice was stern, no longer the soft voice she had been using before. Sunhye’s head lifted up, not wanting to make her mad. Her head turned, resting on her pillow as her puffy, red face stared back at the face that mirrored hers. Their lips, their eye shape, the same slope of their noses— it was all too similar. She had gotten almost entirely everything from her mother.

“Good girl,” Sumin murmured, going back to raking her nails through her hair gently. Her voice was back to being soft. Sunhye thought she could’ve imagined it. Her mother rarely spoke to her this way. “Now, what’s got you so upset, my love?” She never used sweet names, either.

Sunhye didn’t beat around the bush. That was all her father in her. “Did you really cheat on dad?”

Sumin paused, not expecting the question to come from her. Her parents, yes, her sons, yes, and certainly her husband, too. But never her sweet daughter who yearned for her mother’s love, who never spoke out of turn, who always did what she asked. Her mini-me.

She sighed, looking away to the pink walls of her room and scanning the posters of American celebrities and Korean idols alike. A Girls’ Generation poster was right above her bed. A sting of irritation ran through her. That should’ve been her. She looked up, almost not catching it. A poster of sixteen-year-old Sumin stared back at her, a bright grin on her face. She gaped momentarily before catching herself, looking back down at Sunhye. She didn’t ask about it. She would never know that Sunhye always stood on the tip of her toes to press a kiss to her mother’s face in her frequent absence. If she looked to the right, a picture of her parents would stand proudly on her bedside table. She would never know that Sunhye would wish she was standing there next to them.

“It’s complicated,” Sumin said at last. “I was … so excited to get back into doing what I loved; singing and dancing on stage in front of hundreds. I … It started off so innocently, we were just friends and then …” She laughed bashfully, “I guess I am just so irresistible, like yourself.” She winked playfully at the girl, aiming to get a giggle. She succeeded. A sense of triumph blossomed in her chest. “One thing led to another and … Yes. But it was only one time.”

Sunhye didn’t tell her that she read the article and saw the text messages. Why would she, when she wholeheartedly believed in her mother and her words? Her mother would never lie to her. She knew, from books, that this was what the media did— they lied to get attention.

She was reminded of the comment that asked if her father was actually the backup dancer. She dismissed the thought a second later. Her mother may have made a mistake, but she never would have lied to her husband and children about something as important as this.

Sunhye was Ahn Jaesun’s daughter. She firmly believed in this with all her heart.

A soft touch to her cheek made her look back at her mother, watching her stare back down at her with something she didn’t recognize in her eyes. Her mother brushed her tears away, “Sweet girl, you believe me, don’t you?”

It was no question. She nodded her head, “Of course. I love you.”

Her mother smiled, tilting her head. “And you forgive me, yes?”

“Of course, I love you,” she repeated.

Sumin’s smile brightened, “And I love you, darling.”

And just like that, Sunhye forgave her mother like she always did. Dogs are like that. They’d do anything to keep you happy. So blindly loyal.

Throughout the past two weeks, Storybook Entertainment has been steadily releasing each member of their- still unnamed- new boy group, in preparation for the PHANTASIE BOYS YouTube miniseries.

All the current information we have on the members has been sourced from official Storybook Entertainment posts, old social media accounts, and some word of mouth. Here is all of that information repackaged:

Shoji grew up taking dance classes, and as he grew older, he dreamed of becoming an idol. However, after failing multiple auditions, that dream seemed far out of his reach. That is, until he was scouted in 2021 by Storybook Entertainment. He dropped out of university- where he was studying dance- in order to chase his dream of becoming a K-pop idol in Korea.

After her performance, YANG HYUNSUK and the rest of the judges stood up from their seats to give her a standing ovation. Ivy’s eyes started to tear up as she felt relieved after the last couple of days dealing with stress and anxiety.

YANG HYUNSUK/ YG EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: Don’t cry. Ivy, you’ve done really well. Great job. You looked like you weren’t confident doing rapping but you have done an excellent job to be honest. We are proud of you. So don’t cry and be proud of yourself.

Knight of Swords, Cups and Wands. The Lovers, Judgement rev, Ace of Pentacles, The Fool, Nine of Swords, Page of Wands, Ten of Wands, Six of Cups.

They are working hard on the debut, adding some finishong touches but the Judgement rev is giving me a bad feeling. A possible scandal may happen. When I asked about the Judgement I got Six of Cups so it's something someone did when they were younger or it's one of the younger members (or a water sign).

What is this scandal? The fool, Nine of Wands, Ten of Pentacles rev, Temperance, Six of Pentacles (when I asked about this Six of Pentacles I got: Three of Cups, Knight of Wands and Two of Cups). King of Cups rev (I asked more about the KoC rev and I got: The Hanged Man, The Hermit, Ace of Pentacles, Nine of Swords.

Ok.. I lokey feel someone payed their way into the group (allegedly for entertainment purposes only). Or that some money is involved. So the person represented by the Six of Cups is the King of Cups rev. This person is pretty bratty, emotionally immature, snarky and probably pretty sensitive. They are like more withdrawn and hidden then the other members (I'm picturing if everyone else were to take a picture she would have an attitude and sit in the corner, I'm also imagining the members being like "what's up with her/ what's her problem".) She may have anxiety or she is causing issues in the group. With the Hanged Man she doesn't gaf because she's all like " You can't kick me out because my dad/family funds this company, blah blah blah". She most likely has connections with YG. I feel that the others are working really hard meanwhile behind the scenes she's all like "whatever" and doesn't give in as much as everyone else does leaving everyone frustrated. The energy is quite rocky here and it seems to be causing some issues. This person may be doing risky things or being immature (picture everyone at Niagra falls right, everyone is staying where they are supposed to be meanwhile this one is walking over the fine rop, silly example but that's what I'm getting here.) Very bold idgaf energy.

Raised into a wealthy and “privileged” family, Kang Saetbyeol — mostly known by the English given name, Kendra Kang — has always been interested in music, since young age, her big influence she claimed to be her own father, Kang Yicheol, who was since the early 2000 years an active artist in the industry, before retiring to focus on managing his empire, DASK. Though she loved music, she wanted to try something different, for this reason she decided to audition as a model — with her mother’s surname Joo— in many companies, the only company who accepted her was YG Entertainment, which Kendra signed a contract in 2008 at the age. She started as a joke, but she eventually got really immersed up into modeling. Her journey to become “super model” was hard, she loved getting the attention she couldn’t deny, but she also felt like she was pressed by her company, constantly wanting her to be on perfect shape, always practicing her walk. Kendra’s schedules where already ethic at such a young age that she don’t have the time to spend time by herself or her family.

Kendra told her father about the situation, who was firmly supported her, he told her that the best way was to leave the agency, as a CEO himself, but also as her dad, she couldn’t see her daughter so tired of… life. Because Kendra was diagnosed with depression, she was also not in a good relationship with food which brought her into anoressia, this slowly ruined her mental state. Saetbyeol Kang was sick, the best choice was to leave the agency, take some time off and maybe starting off something new. In late 2013, she asked for her contract’s cancelation but it got rejected, instead she was obligated to make her acting debut, since according to the company she was gaining attention due her facial features.

In 2014 decided to give the company the ultimatum, she wanted her 7-year contract to end, she was sick of waiting, she was determined into getting a lawsuit, but with surprise her contract was announced to be ended by her boss, she would later found out that her father and Yang Hyunsuk had a talk which he apparently talked about her daughter under the company. Kendra was angry with her dad, but she will later understand that he did it for her own good. That was she wanted the most.

Kendra was finally free, she had the time to rest, to heal her mind and especially body, but she also thought at what doing next, she wasn’t going to stop her career, she wanted to continue, but that needed time. Only in 2015 it was announced that her and her brother Kang Seungyoon founded a company: SEVEN SINS LABS, which Kendra would later debut under as the first artist.

also at its core i think the critisism around min hee jin have less to do with the girls' debut age or her having any individual scandals than her being behind the overt sexualization of newjeans' lyrics and how she uses controversy as a tool for their promotion. the biggest difference is that as far as i know groups like ive and lesserafim are not being this actively and openly groomed by their management . i cannot read the lyrics to cookie without feeling sick and i dont know how anyone could even listen to it, forget even try to trivialize it under the guise of defending a group of grown men under a whole other subagency...

Lalisa Manobal (birth name: Pranpriya Manobal, born March 27, 1997 in Buriram Province, Thailand) better known by her stage name, Lisa, is a Thai rapper, singer and dancer, based in South Korea. She is a member of Blackpink.

Her birth name is Pranpriya Manobal, she later legally changed her first name to Lalisa. Her ethnicity and nationality is Thai. Lisa's biological parents' names have not been released to the public, her stepfather is Marco Bruschweiler, a Swiss renowned chef, active in Thailand.

Lisa was part of a dance group called We Zaa Cool, that performed shows in her home country before she made a successful audition to the YG Entertainment Competition in 2010 when she was only 13 years old. She ranked first place in the said competition, and was offered by Yang Hyunsuk to become a YG Entertainment trainee, Lisa agreed to the offer. In 2011, she moved to South Korea, to begin her formal training in performing, for her K-pop Idol career, which lasted five years.

In 2016, she took her stage name of Lisa and became the main dancer, lead rapper, a supporting vocalist and the youngest (aka maknae in the k-pop industry) of K-pop girl group, Blackpink, which debuted on August 8, 2016. Lisa is also the first non-Korean YG Entertainment artist.....🖤💜

Two fellow YG Entertainment idols were involved!

The date of BABYMONSTER‘s debut, November 27, is getting closer, and YG Entertainment has been slowly releasing more information about the group’s members and their debut song.

A couple of days ago they shared that their debut will be a digital single titled “BATTER UP”, and it was met with mixed reactions from netizens.

Earlier today, though, they shared the many producers and lyricists who have taken part in the creation of “BATTER UP”, and it seems to be making many fans feel more confident that the song could be a good one.

Perhaps most notably, BABYMONSTER’s own Ivy and Asa is included in the credits for lyrics and composing, which is impressive for rookies, especially in a girl group. Fellow YG Entertainment idols Hyunsuk (of TREASURE) and Chanhyuk (of AKMU) also participated in songwriting.

Some fans are probably also familiar with other producers listed, such as WHERE THE NOISE (one of the producers for TREASURE’s “BONA BONA”), Chaz Mishan (who participated in GD X TAEYANG‘s “Good Boy” and BIGBANG‘s “Flower Road”), and BIGTONE (a producer for TREASURE’s “Going Crazy”).

Also included in the credits is YG (Yang Hyun Suk) himself, which is certainly the most controversial name on the list. Though he is one of the lead producers of BABYMONSTER, his numerous scandals and poor image among K-Pop fans has many feeling unsettled by his involvement with the new girl group.

Notably absent from the producers is Teddy, one of the main creators behind BLACKPINK‘s music, and Choice37, who has worked on many YG Entertainment songs and was also involved in BABYMONSTER’s Last Evaluation series.
