Wanderer!Reader
Hisui is a vast place, and it can’t only be occupied by the two clans and the village, yes? There aren’t many travellers, the only ones of notice being the Gingko Guild.
You, however, just like to wander. You travel by yourself, the only companions being Pokémon you’ve befriended along the way. People are exhausting, so you prefer it that way.
You don’t own any pokéballs because the knowledge of them hasn’t been passed around yet.
So one day you’re just hiking up the mountains when you come across a tall, yet slouching, figure ahead of you shouting. Upon closer look, you see that it’s a male wearing very torn and ragged clothes that look foreign to you, specifically the cap and coat.
- yui.anon
I’m rereading this and I’m starting to think you were just chatting about it instead of requesting a drabble. If that’s so then sorry! Have a drabble as an apology!!
🍓🍓🍓
The man notices you the moment you notice him. The cap he wears shades his eyes, but their still bright, if tired. Sharp silver pierces your skin, so you stop, a hand atop the Arcanine at your side. Your hiking companion growls at the new person, not soothed by your gentle pets.
“Good morning!”
The greeting bellows through the quiet mountains. You jerk back, ready to flee or fight, whatever the situation calls for. Arcanine barks again, smoke billowing from his mouth at the threat the man poses.
To his credit, the man backs away too, eyes wide beneath that brim. His hands are up, showing you his scarred palms as a sign of surrender, of having no arms or weapons. You relax a little, but not Arcanine. It steps forward to protect you, still spewing smoke crackling with embers.
“My apologies!” The man says, voice quieter now. He glances away, then pulls his brim down to hide his eyes. You relax further. “I didn’t mean to frighten you! I don’t often meet travelers out here.”
You cock your head. The man straightens, and does a strange pose. Both arms fire out, one pointing at you while the other points down.
“None the matter!” He says, his eyes bright again. “I will conduct you to your destination, dear traveler!”
“I’m a wanderer.” You correct gently, stroking Arcanine again. The lack of attack has it slowly easing off of its haunches. “So I don’t have a destination.” You rake your gaze down his attire, unashamed of your stare. The man squirms in place, but you’re able to see his tattered coat and clan uniform, as well as. . . “What’s that on your belt?”
The man pauses, glancing at his belt. There’s a wooden object sitting there, one he pulls off with ease. You creep a bit closer as he holds it out. The wood is two different shades, and there’s a clasp on it in the center seam.
“A Poké Ball.” The man tells you.
“A Poké Ball.” You repeat. You creep closer still. Arcanine makes gruff noises, voicing its obvious displeasure, but follows. “And what is it for?”
“To catch Pokémon.” The man says. Your silence has him squirming again. “Er, you throw one at a Pokémon, and it. . . catches them. And then you have it for your team. To battle.”
“Why would you need one?” You ask. “Do your Pokémon not follow you like mine?”
The man opens his mouth, then closes it again. His eyes are on your shoulder. Based on the sharp tingling you can feel, your Magnemite is peeking out of your bag at the new person.
“Er, well. . .” The man seems unsure of what to say. You smile at him. “I suppose they do. . .”
“Strange what the future holds.” You muse to yourself, turning to head down the cliff face. Arcanine and Magnemite are at your heels, or shoulders, in Magnemite’s case. “Goodbye.”
“Wait!” The shout makes you pause. To your surprise, the man follows you. Arcanine’s growling has no effect on him, for soon he’s at your side. “I will accompany you down the mountain. Safety checks are needed to ensure your safe passage!”
You cock a brow. “I will be fine. I’m a wanderer.”
“I will accompany you!” The man says, finality in his voice. You watch him start in the direction you were headed in a moment again. “Mind the rails. All aboard!”
Of course, you think to yourself, he lives here all alone. You’ve discovered the mountain madman.
Well, at least the trip will be interesting.
🍓🍓🍓
We love a slow build up. Ingo, alone in the mountains, immediately crushing on the wanderer he finds. The wanderer, thinking he’s insane and humoring him to not get bitten.
True love <3

Hello Yui! What do you think about the Sakamaki brothers?

What do you think about the Sakamaki brothers?? Well... They are very handsome. As for Shu-San, he is the quietest of all. He doesn't talk much. She has beautiful blonde hair. Reiji-San is very strict. He punishes me for minor offenses, but he can be nice and has helped me with math a few times. It may not be obvious at first glance, but Ayato is, in a way, the most normal of them all. As I get to know him better, I find that he is really nice... and funny. Ah. Kanato is terrifying. I fear him the most... Laito is quite nice, but his behavior is embarrassing sometimes. Subaru doesn't say much. he get angry easily. Still, I can see that he is very sensitive. Each of them had a difficult childhood, so try to understand them...

hello 👋 may we know why ruki x yui is your fav ship?
Me after seeing this ask : Taking out a large list of reasons why Rukiyui is my favorite. Lol
But before that I need to say that I love all Diaboys x Yui ships and all diaboys x Yui ships are my 13 favorite otp in whole dl story . I mean there is no ship in diaboys x Yui that I hate or dislike I like all of them. But Rukiyui is really really really special to me . I love and die for this ship . My favorite and beloved couple 🤧🤧.
And reasons :
1_ Yui is the only girl who can make Ruki to say I love you . I mean we are talking about Ruki . The boy who doesn't trust women and doesn't believe in love . Yui made Ruki drop this hard opinion. As Ruki said, Yui always changes his rigid opinions easily. Yui is the only girl to whom Ruki said I failed against you and told her I love you.
2_ Ruki rarely cries. Since Ruki's personality is like mine ( we are both INTJ ), I know that these characters rarely cry and don't express their emotions easily. But Ruki cried after reading Yui's letter in which Yui wrote I miss you ( DF Ecstasy prologue ). This shows that Yui can make Ruki show his emotions and even cry. This shows that Yui is so important to Ruki that Ruki cries for her. And believe me, it is true when I say that the INTJs are difficult to cry.
3_ Imagine Ruki called Yui livestock for the first item then this word changed to angel . Yui is his angel 🤧🤧🤧 .
4_ The most important reason is Ruki is even willing to betray karlhines, who is completely loyal to him, for Yui's sake. I think it's absolutely clear that Ruki admires karlhines more than anyone else and swears loyalty to him. But Ruki is willing to break this promise for Yui's sake and betray Karlheinz.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just look at these sweet kisses . He is kinda eating Yui . Yui is everything to him . Yui is his angel . His meaning of life .
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just look at him smiling at Yui with a soft look . His smile is full of love . This love is really special because this man didn't believe in love and now he is looking at a girl with a big love . 💘💘💘💘💘💘
Mr personal opinion is that Ruki wants to change his destiny for Yui . He can't be Adam and can't stay with Eve . But he doesn't accept this fate and decides to change it for Yui . For his angel . For his love .

Your analyzes are really helpful and so valuable to the community. It was from your latest analysis of Reiji that I got motivated to research the boys more thoroughly and became very knowledgeable about behavioral issues. But as I replayed each HDB and MB route, I suddenly realized something.
Each of the brothers is very different, but they all seem to share a lot in common when it comes to punishment and obedience. Despite being raised by such different types of mothers, many of the brothers use one common control tactic - a "reward" for obedience or punishment for disobedience. Of course, some of them can take the reward as such, while others have it quite twisted. And it seems that this practice really works on Yui, because this way they train her to obey without a second thought so that she can to avoid the pain, but I got the impression that they didn't see it that way. For most of the development of Yui's "relationship" with one of the boys, this goes to an extreme and eventually she starts to lose the line between pain and pleasure and things get complicated. But I wonder if they are doing this to make her a masochist? As far as I am informed, a man cannot suddenly become a masochist, but is born with such a tendency, and over time, so to speak, learns to awaken it. Does this mean that Yui is actually really a masochist, and it's not just words when brothers say so?
Of course I know your focus is mainly Reiji and I have no idea if you've played any of the other routes to you know. Also, Reiji isn't as mentally screwed up as Cordelia's sons and he acts very carefully and thinks his actions out more than his brothers. But since you also mentioned this reward and punishment tactic, I would be very happy if you could give me your opinion on the subject.
This is a very astute observation! You are right with each brother engaging in Operant Conditioning (or punishment and reward) even though they each have different mothers; I don't think this is coincidental. From what we see of their mothers, it can be implied that the behaviour is learned - we predominantly see this with Cordelia and her general behaviour, but we also see this with Beatrix and Shuu (I would mention Christa but I feel I lack a thorough understanding of her character). From each of the brothers, to the mothers and by extension even the Mukamis, they all seem to exhibit this form of behaviour; the only way for this to occur [beyond coincidence] is for there to be an interlinking variable. In this case, our good friend Karlheinz - CEO of Beans, Means, Heinz.
From what we learn from Ayato's and Laito's routes, it's implied that Cordelia met Karheinz when she was young - in other words, he preyed on her for her blood, and for her heritage. This can imply that Cordelia may have, in fact, been groomed (for Karl's plan) - since it can be implied that he too engages in the punishment and reward system. This is mainly theoretical, however, from Cordelia's extensive collection of fine jewellery - that, (if I'm right) come from Karlheinz (and can even be implied to be 'love bombing'). We know that Cordelia becomes self-destructive and abusive when she isn't with Karl, possibly implying that his time and gifts act as the "reward" - whereas him marrying Beatrix, Christa and generally discarding Cordeila acts as the "punishment". Cordelia possibly learned her behaviour from Karl and imprinted it onto her children - a sort of "cause and effect" if you will - whereas I've implied Beatrix to suffer from some form of generational trauma; though Karl may have also [possibly] used Operant Conditioning on Beatrix, and Christa, too.
And yes, you're right - some brothers are generous with the rewards and do something that actively makes Yui happy, such as Ayato, Azusa and Kou. However, brothers such as Laito, Kanato and Reiji present a more twisted version of 'reward' - such as Laito forcing himself on Yui [in basically every chapter let's be real] or Kanato wanting to turn Yui into a wax corpse - but that's heavily due to their response to their trauma.
You're also right about Yui being easily 'trained' via Operant Conditioning. However, I think this is a precaution - a means to demonstrate complete and utter control - and like I've mentioned with Reiji, he spares no time in enforcing that; meaning that he's likely done this hundreds of times before (and most likely so have the others). In other words, the Operant Conditioning may just be a standard routine among the brothers. I do like your interpretation that they're doing this so that Yui can avoid their punishments - it definitely puts them in a more sentimental light (and I appreciate that you've read it like this). For characters like Subaru, Shuu, Ayato (and even Kanato) I can definitely see this interpretation - as punishing Yui is more trouble than it's worth; they want her to behave and do exactly as they want.
However, for characters like Reiji and Laito, they particularly enjoy pushing Yui around, they enjoy making her slip up so they can punish her. I see this as more of a demonstration of power and control - as well as a boost to their ego. Reiji and Laito are two characters that lacked control and authority in their childhood - implying that their actions towards Yui are possibly a way to achieve that. For characters such as these, I don't belive that they want Yui to avoid pain in the beginning. Throughout the mid-way section and the end of their respective routes, they don't delight in Yui's pain - it's only in the beginning, and I think this is due to their trauma-response. In other words, the abused become the abuser - they delight in Yui's pain because she feels a physical manifestation of their mental/emotional pain. It's sadism at its most ironic.
So yes, I agree with you on that front - I don't think they see Yui's 'training' in a pet-like way - instead I believe it's a fail-safe. It's a way for each brother to be in complete control, while having the security that Yui can't escape, act out or leave them. At the end of the day, each brother values and desires affection and acceptance - using this form of control over Yui guarantees that. It's a twisted way for them to garner the emotional security they need.
However, I don't believe that any of the brothers use Operant Conditioning to actively or purposefully make Yui a masochist. From what I know, researched and from my own experiences, no one is born a sadist or a masochist. Instead, I believe it to be a learned response. Sadism and masochism are responses to pain - I don't believe people are intrinsically born to enjoy pain - it's called 'pain' for a reason. However, and this is drawn upon my own experiences, I believe that sadism and masochism arise from the exposure to suffering.
If you're exposed to constant and unyielding pain, there's only a small selection of responses to choose from. You can't run from it, you can't hide from it - fighting it only makes it worse - therefore, the only way to deal with the relenting pain is to accept it, tolerate it...enjoy it. I touch on this in my MB analysis regarding Azusa and Yui (and how Azusa is a "dark parallel" to Yui regarding this exact topic). Since the female brain doesn't full mature until mid-twenties, I can afford to take some liberties regarding Yui.
When you're exposed to heavy abuse and physical abuse as a child, your brain does funny things. Now, I'm only talking from my own experiences - so any other views on this are greatly appreciated. But like I said, when you're exposed to pain at a young age, your brain tries to rationalise it and find an effective response. If it's constant, unyielding and inescapable, you can either fight it - and in some cases, make it worse - or you can accept it. When you're a child, or a young adult, you're constantly told the message that you should enjoy life; that you have nothing to sad about or anything worth crying over. Notice how I used the word: enjoy. This is intentional because this is where the brain begins to warp. So, instead of crying about the pain, you instead learn to see the positives - that whoever's inflicting the pain is giving you 'special treatment' for example. This is what we see with Azusa and his attachment to Justin.
People inflict pain because they want to see you suffer; from how my brain responded to that, the only way to combat that is to enjoy it. Once the pain's over - or it's finally stopped for good - that sentiment doesn't go away; instead it finds something to latch onto. Think of your brain as one big circuit board, and the masochism as a cord. Once the pain stops for an extensive period, that cord becomes unplugged - and another cord is plugged in its place; the circuit board fills up. The masochism is still there, the cord hasn't disappeared; it's dangling, and it needs something to latch onto. Once you grow older, your brain develops more plugs, more sockets for different cords and branches that need to be filled in - one of those plugs is sexuality. Now obviously, sadism and masochism aren't intrinsically sexual, they are both sexual and non-sexual: the sexual being self-explanatory and the non-sexual being oriented around amusement - again, it's irony being displayed in its most painful form. But I digress, once sexuality opens itself up to the brain - like with Yui - the unplugged cord of masochism has a socket to wire itself into.
The point I'm getting at is that I believe masochism - and Yui's masochism - to be a trauma-response. It acts as a way for her to 'deal' with the pain - however, since her brain is underdeveloped, her mentality surrounding it warps and distorts. The line between pain and pleasure does become blurred. In other words, it can be implied that Yui's masochism (and Azusa's) are coping mechanisms that have become warped and distorted over time.
Note that Yui never starts the game(s) as a masochist. If anything, she hates the pain. Yet by the end of the game, she is a masochist. She's masochistic due to the severe mental stress she's under and the vile abuse she endures - and her brain can't revert back due to the extent of the distortion. Routes such as Reiji's and Laito's hinge on Yui's mentality unravelling; becoming fragile and mouldable - this is how the masochism is able to infiltrate, it's a coping mechanism (but instead of being able to abandon it, it's latched onto another part of her brain, her sexuality).
Furthermore, when the brothers refer to Yui as a masochist, it could be implied to be an exaggeration, a way to riddle Yui's mind with stress, denial and self-doubt. In other words, it could be implied that they're gaslighting her to sow doubt and make her more susceptible to their mental manipulation. Additionally, it could be implied that they're enforcing masochism onto Yui so that they can enact their own sadism onto her without any complications - to make her a 'willing victim' if you will. In essence, the brothers could call Yui a masochist in order to imprint their own views and needs onto her - sadism and masochism is the giving and receiving of pain. It can be implied that the brothers' sadistic tendencies act as an outlet for their trauma; they need a recipient to take the pain they're giving - that being Yui. However, the brothers' sadism and Yui's masochism doesn't match up.
The brothers begin their routes revelling in Yui's pain, yet they don't end their routes with the same sentiment. Yui, however, starts the routes trying to escape the pain, only to yield to it - and by the end of the route, revel in it. And I'm not just strictly talking about her own pain either. In Reiji's HDB manservant ending, we see Yui delight in the pain and subservience of others. She gains control over Reiji, in which she belittles and emasculates him, all while playing the role of 'Cordelia' - and in Kanato's HDB manservant ending, we see Yui brutally (and sadistically) murders the other brothers, revelling in the affection she believes she'll get because of it. In essence, sadism and masochism are learned responses or coping-mechanisms (gone wrong), but that's just my opinion.
You're also right, Reiji isn't as screwed up as the triplets, and he does think out his every move - painstakingly so. The only other brother I'd say who comes close is Laito, since they're both highly manipulative and predominately enforce Operant Conditioning - with Reiji’s focus being on control and Laito's being on sex. When Yui behaves, they each reward her in non-material ways - for Laito, it's sex or physical affection, and for Reiji, it's remedies when Yui's sick, her favourite meals etc. What they both 'reward' Yui with is their vulnerability. In other words, manipulative characters like Reiji, Laito, Ruki and Carla enforce Operative Conditioning to gain the comfort of control; only once that boundary is established do they 'mellow'. In other words, the need for punishment and reward is a basis wherein the brothers can build a relationship that they can thrive in.

I'm so confused about your feelings to Yui.
Mee too lol
Tho no, now I kinda understand I don't like this character anymore.
You see, at the beginning I was pretty loyal to her and liked her, finding her cute great etc, but that was from my own prism of vision. In other words – I liked her because of the way I perceive her "out of character", not the way she was actually written in the games
Idk I was into romantisizing her numbness, or concentrated her whole character core around being a miserable victim girl who's living in her dreams to escape this ugly reality, being less sweet and more bitter (lol tf I wrote, anyways)
I read how @/besnella and @/ausd (don't really want to bother) wrote this character and genuinely liked it, because this image was resonating with the way I would write Yui.
So, I like this "ooc Yui which isn't canon" which is the result of other people's writing and my obsession with crystal castles bc for their songs scream YUI
I don't like her original character in the games, I'd say. Probably because it's not interesting...
In some routes tho she has some conflict inside her, she tries to deal with it, but lol the whe game is built on diaboy's conflict and the way
yui tries to solve it (as if she's his personal psychologist lmao). Like, in some routes she's fine, in some she's just dumb (Shin DF), but I still can't say I adore her personality haha, just don't like it.
As a character function – okay, as an interesting character – nah, especially when there are 13 diaboys with more dramatic characters, fucked up conflicts etc...
Anyways, I also don't understand the hype around her by the whole fandom, like yeah, okay, you like her, I just don't agree now after some routes *overrated*
I'm not so interested in yui to write the whole "analysis" why she's "poorly written" or so, I just don't like her, like she sucks, she doesn't even recalls some strong emotions (tho except for endings where she becomes insane, it's some contrast to her regular behavior 🤧)

You brought Nol and Yui up and elaborated on their dynamic beautifully, I just wanted to add something that I've been thinking about a lot lately. Nol isn't only a threat to Yui because he is a potential heir. He is also a threat because if he ever exposes what she did to him in the Hirahara mental facility, it could be her downfall. The incident between the brothers was something she was personally, directly involved in. It all boils down to her. Whatever the contents of Yujing's article will be, Yui will probably be able to weasel her way out of any accusations. (I don't see her standing trial for murder or any of the Kim's crimes anytime soon.) But this? This is not something she will be able to get away with that easily once people start digging and questioning things.
To prevent it all from coming to light, she needs to keep Nol in this miserable state. Similarly to how she needs Kousuke to have this warped perception of reality, the same applies to Nol. She needs him isolated, internalizing the guilt, believing he deserves everything that happened, that fighting back is useless and only leads to more pain. But if he ever breaks free from her control, finds support, starts unpacking everything that has happened... That's when he becomes unpredictable, and unpredictable is dangerous. Back then, Yui got rid of Nessa but let Nol live. I wouldn't be surprised at all if a day comes when she really regrets that decision.
And this really makes me wonder how exactly Nol remembers the incident. Does he remember it clearly, or was his memory warped? Does he stay quiet because it's his word vs Kousuke's Yui's the media the whole world so he knows no one would believe him? How did he process his time in the facility? Does he remember it clearly and would be able to talk about, or is it all a haze? Does he recall names, faces? Would he be able to recognize the people he met there again?
Related to this, I have this feeling that whatever was going on in the mental facility, is... bigger than Nol. Bigger than just one kid getting abused and brainwashed. What if he isn't the only victim. What if it is the entire facility, or at least a subsection of it. What if Yui, since she runs the facility, fostered this kind of environment? This is a sensitive subject so I'm trying to find the right words... Unfortunately, this is not as unrealistic as people might think. It's horrible and absolutely disgusting but abuse in mental asylums, as well as institutions with a similar framework like nursing homes, is not a rare occurrence, because of the power dynamics in place and the residents being isolated from the outside world. Unfortunately, not every nurse, doctor, or medical staff is a good, caring, kind person. Some of them are the worst, most heartless people who simply want to have power over others. And power is such a key theme in the story already, isn't it. Given the author's background in the medical field, I would not be surprised at all if this is something she is planning on commenting on in season 2...
[Content warning: In my response I will talk a little about implied sexual assault related to Yui.]
Oh man, this is such a GOOD message and I think you're bringing up something that hasn't been explored nearly as much so far! That, yes, as we move into s2 we are going to start seeing the much darker underbelly of the story that has been sort of held off for so long, things that have only been danced around, until our characters grow older, aaaaahhhh!
But yes, re: Nol and Yui, that's such a good point! Like... something that I've talked about with a lot of people lately is that maybe Yujing is actually working on two stories - one as a favor to Rand, to help rectify Nol's image and reputation, and the other her much bigger story about Yui and the Kims, because I agree, there is no way whatever she has right now is going to be able to make the necessary dent, it will be so easy to bury. But if it turns out she IS working on two stories, this does a couple things. First, it plants that seed of credibility. If Nol was, in fact, an innocent person pushed to take the fall of the Hirahara's partner's son, then what can that say about Yui, the Hiraharas, the Kims? What does that say about corruption amongst the elite?
And what does it say about Nol's past?
If Nol's image can be redeemed (as much as it can be, because I have no doubts there will be people would brush it off, but fortunately Yujing bears a reputation for her honest work and reporting) while planting that seed, then later in the future when Yujing has even more dirt, even more testimonies, even more events to report on, people will be more willing to accept it, to believe it, to start to see that corruption, and how good people lose their lives (whether because they actually die or it's a case like Nol, who hasn't really been "living" all of these years as much as going through the motions).
Being able to expose the kind of manipulation and meddling Yui has done would be big, for her both as a Hirahara and also overseeing the health facilities, the hospital, etc. Someone of her status and position manipulating and drugging her own child and step-son, institutionalizing someone who didn't need it, the things that went on in there? ;A;
You're right that it's very likely Nol is not the only person who was abused in that facility, and I think it's very likely, too, that we might see this further explored. Something I think about re: Yui is that she has some kind of trauma, too. Not just the whole "I am a woman and I resent the patriarchy for what I have never been afforded and I have had to work harder in order to get what I have" and the survivalist mentality of needing to be at the top so that no one can take your position, which is already... uh... a lot lol. But on top of that, I think it' very possible that Yui was possibly assaulted when she was younger (perhaps even by one of the Kims which is a whole other can of worms) and that in never getting to process what happened to her, in not getting to get much needed help, perhaps she internalized that in a very damaging way. That mentality that this happened to her because she was weak, because she wasn't vigilant, because she wasn't powerful enough could be a part of the way she treats others, how she has this almost.... doesn't it feel like she treats people like her prey, that they dance for her amusement? That maybe if they were stronger, if they were more powerful, she wouldn't be able to play them like a fiddle? And I think, in an insidious way, this goes hand in hand with what you're bringing up - about fostering an environment where people who thrive on power can lord that over others.
It's especially sick and dark because yes, you are right - there are people who do often need that help and don't get the help they need because of the kinds of people who work in those institutions. We do see that a lot in nursing homes! And given that Nol was institutionalized on a basis that seems to be largely fictitious, or at least that it wasn't what it appeared, it feels even more hand in hand that powers of abuse were at play in there.
I have a few thoughts additional to this, too.
Something I think about Nol at this time is that he probably WAS an angry, hot-headed kid. His mother uprooted him and moved them to a foreign country where they live as undocumented immigrants in a home that Rand pays for for them, but they aren't living as citizens of this place. They're effectively living in hiding, in the shadows of Rand's Other Family. He must have been so alone! He must have been so upset. His father is this man who has a whole other family, he's MARRIED, and his mother is essentially his mistress, The Other Woman. She uprooted their lives for THAT. To be near him even though they couldn't actually BE. Nol wasn't part of their lives, part of that world. Every interaction we've seen of Kousuke and Nol spanning those years is just Kousuke refusing Nol, demeaning him.
In 219 when Nol and Shinae are talking about not celebrating his birthday, he talks about abusing the cow that became your burger and it makes me wonder if Nol and Nessa argued when he was younger, when he was hot-headed and bitter and angry and upset about being forced to live like this for a man who never once showed the side of him that his mother insists exists. Did he say terrible things about her choices, about what she was doing? Did he say hurtful things?
And to this thought... did Yui ever drug Nol via tea with something that might amplify and exacerbate his already hot-headed, bitter, angry feelings? That made him lash out at an old brother who treated him like dirt. At a family that made him feel like an invisible monster, like a mistake? Could the incident that happened the night he was taken away have involved something like that? And even if not then, we know Nol has an aversion to tea, which means it could still have been anything else. And not only an aversion to tea but an aversion to Yui's touch, to her presence...........
Whenever I think about the time he was institutionalized, I think of it a lot like what I think conversion therapy sounds like. They took this kid who is, for the most part, pretty normal. Is he having adjustment issues? Probably. Is his anger misplaced and out of place? Probably not. They took this kid and convinced him that something is wrong with him - that he himself is an anomaly, a mistake. That everything would be better if he didn't exist. Like, I feel deep in my heart that what happened to Nol was deeply brainwashing in nature, psychologically impacting how he sees and perceives himself, how he thinks about these incidents in the past that he was involved in. That everything would be so much better if he just didn't exist. His mother wouldn't be dead. His father's family would know peace. They convinced this kid that bad things come to those he cares about, because he is a blight. That he was a terrible son and he lost his mother because of it. I feel SO STRONGLY that this must be why this mentality is so deeply ingrained in him, why it's something that he cannot just let go of, because his entire identity is deeply rooted in it.
His entire panic about waking up in the hospital, and how he could calm down once he found out it wasn't Hirahara Memorial. His aversion to drugs, even when it was a pain killer given by Kousuke at the beginning of the story. I just.... i just KNOW terrible things happened in that hospital to him, and probably to others. ;_____; I'm haunted by his aversion to Yui's touch, the way he reacts every time she reaches to him ugggghhhhhhhh
So yes, I do wonder how much he remembers of that time - and it's probably going to depend on any drugs they were administering (whether or not he needed it). I think, too, he probably was made to participate in anger management, which probably further just warped his perception of himself and his feelings, and what he's allowed to feel.
But as for that night in question, I get the feeling even Nol doesn't have a clear memory of it, based on the beginning of episode 150. Something we've been picking up on re: memory in ILY is that color is one of the factors that determines how clear a memory is. A good example of this is Shinae's recollection of the formal and how it all works backwards from blurry, black and white images and slowly gains more clarity and saturation as she returns to what wasn't affected by being drugged. Other things is stuff like in Kousuke's memory where Nessa's face is scribbled out.
Nol's memory of the night he was taken away is jarring - there's no clarity, everything is blurred as if it's in motion, we can't make out the images, the colors are inversed (he himself appears blue and black). I think this implies that he himself has a very tenuous grasp on what happened that night, cannot recall clearly for himself his memory vs what Yui said. The most clear things, in fact, are what he was saying, his insistence that he wasn't doing anything, that he didn't touch him, he just wanted to ask him something.
We've seen even in Shinae's memories that speech can become blurred, so Nol's speech being the clearest part....? Interesting, right? So there seems to be some conviction in what he said and insisted, but the rest of it seems to be vague, easy to manipulate, to convince him he's remembering wrong.
And I think there's two strong possibilities here.
The first is that Nol could have been drugged at that time - and this really plays into the theory that maybe he's been given things that amplify and exacerbate his emotions, make him look like he's a violent, unstable child, make him come across more belligerent. If he was drugged maybe that's why the vision is so blurred, so warped.
The other possibility is this: quimchee has revealed that Nol is practically blind without his glasses, is nearsighted, and that this is, in fact, plot-related. We also know Nol now wears contacts - perhaps so that he can never be left blind if he forgets his glasses (loses them, they're taken from him) and.... what if that's connected to the night he was taken away.
Further, on top of this, Yui is the spitting image of Kousuke, but in a wig. And the night that Nol was taken away? Yui's hand looked like it was scuffed/battered/injured.
So I think it's safe to assume that no one but maybe Yui (and Rand?) has the best understanding of what happened that night. It seems possible that Nol was without his glasses, so already all but blind, and based on this being such a traumatic event, the memory is already distorted, the colors show that. Even if he wasn't drugged when this happened, it seems like it's something he himself can't very well recall, except for the words he spoke. ;A;
And to tie in your initial points lmao yes I think that's a really important thing to remember. Yui needs to keep Nol in a state where he cannot question these things, where it's easier for him to believe these lies that he's been saddled with, to continue to believe that he is a blight, a mistake, something that never should have existed, that wherever he goes, doom follows, that those he cares about are damned by his association. Every time he takes interest in someone Yui sees to it that they are "taken from him" like how Alyssa was pushed into a career that would mean she doesn't get to see him, leaving him alone and isolated, and convinced that this is what happens. It's UGGGGHHHHHH it's so awful, but YES that's very much how she operates, and why it's so so SO important to me that Nol and Shinae talk, because like she told him back at the Parks, nothing changes if he leaves. She still works for Yui, she's still under contract. Rand has reinforced this notion, that she WILL NEVER ESCAPE and the best she can do is to learn to play Yui's games and fight the way she does. As long as Nol is alone, she can continue to isolate him, continue to use the people he cares about against him, to punish him with their harm.
But like you said - maybe if he can get away from that, he can get the much needed clarity. It will take a lot of work and patience to unlearn what has been drilled into his head, but I think being able to talk to Shinae, to be open with each other would be an important first step, so that they can never be used against each other, and so that he can see that it's not him - it's Yui, and it's always been her. ;A;

Hello!! Thank you so much for checking up on me 🤍🩷🤍 I don't think things are looking up any time soon but it will never not surprise me how adaptable human nature is.
I've been in this fandom for years now probably observing content since early 2019/19 and writing stuff since COVID began at first it was for fun but I've genuinely learnt so much and had an amazing time, grown in terms of writing and discovered new interests and made people I consider friends now. But in a weird way I've kind of outgrown? DL is what I've been thinking for a pretty long time, maybe it's a phase and I just don't have any inspiration right now but chances are I won't be writing anything any time soon.
Tumblr is still fun to browse through and I won't disappear, or deactivate maybe I'll even start another account like kallistos book club is what I've been thinking but idk what I'm doing rn. So I'm always so glad so receive comments like this assuring me I haven't just been wasting away, and my work has made people even a little happy or entertained!

Ruki-kun!! Did u know ayato & yui got 98%!?! I believe this is not true!! It should be 100. What do you think master!?!?!?
"Ha, good for those two. Upon further inspection, one would see just how perfectly Sakamaki Ayato would satisfy the legendary Eve's needs. Why else would she have chosen him over me as her Adam? I cannot deny how comfortable they appear in each other's presence, which would have inspired envy in me at some point, but what matters above all else is that I have fulfilled my benefactor's wishes by uniting them for better or worse. Moreover, had Yui not rejected my advances, I would have never considered someone like you to stand by my side. One door closes and another opens, as they say."

Hello .
Can I request a scenario? Yui is Ruki's girlfriend and tries to surprise him for his birthday. But Ruki finds out about Yui's secret activities and because he is suspicious of her, he tries to punish her. But when he realizes Yui's intention, he regrets his action.
TW : VIOLENCE
It was a normal evening. Ruki was watching Yui as she ran through the garden of the manor, coming back from "school", obviously preoccupied by something. She said she had to take extra class of maths at school and could get herself home; but he knew she was lying. She was doing something else after class. Was she seeing another lover? Was she plotting her escape, pretending to love him? Why wouldn’t she tell him the truth? They share everything, now.
Opening the front door, the petite girl let herself in. Taking her shoes off, she casted them to the side, where the ones of the other members of the household were. Immediately, she grew nervous when Ruki slowly appeared on the stairs, watching her with hatred.
Tumblr media
"Where have you been?"
The girl started trembling, lying coming uneasily to her.
Tumblr media
"I was at school. The professor agreed to teach me extra class of maths since I struggle in this discipline."
Immediately, Ruki’s eyes went dark. Not only was he feeling angry, disappointed, but mostly hurt. And he was angry at himself, for letting himself get hurt again.
Tumblr media
"How dare you…! I let you have a bit of freedom and this is how you use it?! I knew it, I should have been harder with you! I have to train you again from the beginning, to make you understand what you really are, who you belong to!"
He grabbed Yui by the arm and dragged her to the dungeon, where he threw her like she didn’t mean anything to him anymore. He then bit hard into her neck, while she gasped, screamed and cried, trying her best to push him away.
Tumblr media
"You mean nothing to me… you’re nothing but Livestock to me. You’ve never meant anything… I was only using you for your blood!"
Yui asked why between every cry, not believing what she was hearing. She loved him so much, and yet…
Tumblr media
"Tell me… is he spoiling you? I smell another man’s scent on you, don’t even lie. Is he covering you in gifts? Money? Dresses? Jewelry? Or perhaps… carnal satisfaction? I am the only person you’ll ever see from now on… forget him."
He lashed at her, devouring her, tearing at her skin. He ended up biting her neck, arms, torso, sides, legs. She was bleeding everywhere, sobbing and pleading.
"I am the only one allowed to touch you."
Surrounding her throat in his hand, he started squeezing, until she couldn’t breathe anymore. All his hatred, trauma, and pain came back as she now saw her as the same as his mother, someone who would give up on him but still say "I love you."
Searching for gifts another lover of her could have given her, he put his hands inside her pockets. He found something, a piece of paper. A ticket, a booking for a restaurant. He let go of her neck, while she gasped for air. He got up and locked the dungeon’s door, deciding to "surprise" her lover by going to the restaurant that day, to see what kind of man she had an affair with. Was he more handsome? Stronger? Richer? More charming?
The reservation was due on April 24th. He gasped at that same moment. The date of his birthday? Immediately, he drove himself to that restaurant, smelling the man’s scent that was on Yui. The receptionist. The receptionist said Yui Komori came here to plan a birthday party for her boyfriend, Ruki.
He felt shameful. The information came like a weight on his shoulder. He was reassured; she wasn’t having an affair. But at the same time, he was anxious. He hurt her… bad. For something she didn’t do.
Driving himself home, he walked slowly to the dungeon, apprehending this moment. He opened the dungeon’s door to hear a moan of pain from his lover. She was trembling, her knees pressed to her chest, her hands close to her mouth, to feel herself, still alive, to feel her breath hit her skin.
He walked towards her, seeing her how he left her. Open wounds, as if she was devoured by a wild beast. He hated himself in that moment, hated when his wrath overcame his self control.
Tumblr media
"Yui… can you hear me? You don’t have to talk if it’s too painful for you. Just let me know if you can hear my voice…"
Yui nodded, not wanting to be punished more. Plus, she still loved him madly, and wanted to grow closer to him again, to earn his forgiveness, even though she wasn’t sure what for.
Ruki kneeled down next to her, carefully lifting her and capturing her in his embrace. She felt secured in his arms, his breath hitting her face, even though he was the very reason she was in this situation in the first place.
Tumblr media
"I… made a mistake. I let jealousy and possessiveness get the best of me and hurt you… even though you were only trying to make me happy. I’m sorry I didn’t see your kindness, your devotion. I promised myself to never forget that you are a kind, devoted, and selfless being, and yet I did. Because of that, you were hurt, and I ruined your surprise. Can you find in your heart a place to forgive me? I will never let myself lash at you this way again."
Tumblr media
"Ruki, I’m sorry too. I should have never lied to you, no matter the reason… I promise you honesty for now on…"
Tumblr media
"Come on, let’s get you out of here. I’ll run you a bath, then we’ll go to sleep and put this behind us. Okay?"
Tumblr media
"Yes… I love you, Ruki."
"I love you too."
