It may not be #FanArtFriday but it is #internationalwomensday ! Here's some art of my two favorite female comic book characters. Barbara Gordon was shot by the Joker, paralyzed from the waist down and had to resign from her role as Batgirl. But she didn't let that stop her. She reinvented herself as Oracle, the information source for the superhero world. She utilized her genius level intellect, became extremely skilled in computer programming and hacking and continued to practice martial arts. She truly is an inspiration for all women with physical disabilities. Cassandra Cain was trained as a child to be able to perceive minute changes in an opponent's movements, breathing, center of gravity etc allowing her to effectively predict an opponent's move before they happen. As she was trained to be a killer, aligning herself to the Bat Family's moral code (i.e. no killing) was a difficult journey for her and seeing her develop as a character was great. Also as a result of her upbringing, she's illiterate and must swallow her pride and learn how to read (mentored by none other than Barbara Gordon). I'd say Cass is an inspiration for any women struggling to define who they are or who they want to be. New images released from Thor Ragnarok! First image is of Thor and Valkyrie! I assume she'll be Thor's love interest in this movie as Lady Sif is suspiciously missing. Also what's with Thor's new look? Looks more Roman gladiator than Asgardian God Next image is of Cate Blanchett as Hela, Asgardian goddess of death! Rumor has it she's out to get Thor's soul Third image is of the Grandmaster, who makes his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Ragnarok. He's kinda this immortal being that loves playing games, always pushes the heroes to the end of their wits and intellect! Last image is of none other than the fan favorite, Loki Laufeyson! Comics this week I'm excited for! Low #16 In this universe, the sun is near supernova status and so, for the sake of survival, humanity has retreated underwater to escape the danger. Most of the humans have given up and are essentially full time hedonists. However, there's one human, Stel Caine that hasn't given up and this series chronicles her story. If you're looking for amazing art, wonderful character interaction and mature subject matter then this comic is for you! Inhumans vs X-Men #6 Last issue in the Inhumans vs X-Men series! Looking forward to see if the X-Men vac stop the terrigen cloud before all of the Earth becomes uninhabitable for mutants and humans alike! Also Leinil Yu (@leinilyu) is back on artwork! Grass Kings #1 Really interesting, this one. Apparently it's set in a trailer park that's also in a magical realm known as the Grass Kingdom. Not too much info on this yet buuut it's being written by Mark Kindt with art by Tyler Jenkins and that alone has me hyped!! What comics are you most excited for this week? Today’s featured character is the Plutonian from the Irredeemable comic series, published by @boom_studios ! The Plutonian has super strength, speed and durability, flight, laser vision. He is nigh indestructible and can process information at superhuman speeds! The Irredeemable series poses the following question: what if the world’s greatest superhero decided to become the world’s greatest supervillain? The series follows the story of the Plutonian who loses his way and becomes a rampaging supervillain and details how the superhero community reacts! This series is packed with interesting characters, amazing story writing and quality art. It takes the archetypal Superman like character and flips it right on its head. Logan is based off the acclaimed "Old Man Logan" storyline by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven! In the story, the supervillains finally won and took over the world and so Logan retired, started a family and swore never to pop the claws again. That is until tragedy befalls him and he must go on a quest of sorts. . . The series explains how the bad guys won, why Logan retired and how the Marvel universe has changed as result. Important to note that there was no X-23 in the original storyline so she's a new addition to the film! What did you think of the film? Todays featured figurine is the Joker by @kotobukiya_official ! This figurine stands 12 inches tall at 1/6th scale. This figurine is based off Joker’s look in the controversial 1988 graphic novel “The Killing Joke” by Alan Moore. The Killing Joke not only details the Jokers (alleged) origin, it also contains one of the most iconic scenes in comic book history: Joker shooting Barbara Gordon and thereby paralyzing her from the waist down. The attention to detail here is amazing! From the purple three piece suit, his white gloves, trenchcoat and his signature acid flower, there’s nothing not to love! America #1 I first got introduced to America Chavez in the 2013 Young Avengers series, as part of the Marvel NOW initiative! Suicide Squad wins an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 2017 Academy Awards! Not going to lie, I wasn't a huge fan of this film. The plot was wonky, the characterization wasn't great and sending what was essentially an espionage/wetwork supervillain team against a powerful sorceress didn't make any sense to me. But I gotta give it to them, the makeup was great! Waller looks ruthless, Harley looks crazy, Enchantress is surely deranged and Joker has lots of.. flair! Today’s featured cosplayer is Hybrid Cosplay, consisting of @johnnyhybrid and @yami_hybrid ! Hailing from Houston, Texas, these two have been putting out high quality, accurate cosplays for over three years! My favourite of their creations has to be Johnny’s Gambit cosplay! Gambit is a mutant with the ability to transform the potential energy in an object into kinetic energy. When thrown, the object explosively releases this kinetic energy upon impact, effectively acting as a mighty explosive! The accuracy of Hybrid’s cosplay, from the red eyes, the fingerless gloves and the glowing, supercharged throwing cards are why this cosplay is one of my favourites! Apollo and Midnighter are among my two favorite superheroes!  Apollo was one of the first openly gay superheroes and is married to the Midnighter. They've even adopted the superpowered Jenny Quantum, the "Spirit of the 21st Century", as their daughter! Midnighter is often seen as a Batman expy, but he's far more complex in comparison. Midnighter is also openly gay, has superhuman strength and reflexes, regularly kills his opponents and his mind is equipped with a mental battle computer! This allows him to  predict the outcome of any situation before it starts, allowing him to work backwards towards reaching that outcome, rendering him nigh unbeatable in a fight!
