about me
Helloo~ 👋🏽
Tumblr media
I'm Raeshelle! She/Her, 25
I'm not new to studyblr, langblr, or codeblr, but I decided to make this new account to follow my new journey in all things tech and language. My main point in making this is to track my progress in college, share my study related content and to keep up both accountability and motivation for myself.
I'm studying data science and data analytics in college with hopes of working in artificial intelligence and machine learning in the future. I already have a background of being a full stack web developer and a bit of game design so I'm already familiar with a lot of the basic coding concepts.
Aside from tech, I love gaming, learning languages (currently learning Korean!), binging kdramas, fiction writing and so much more.
I'm excited to meet anyone else who's on a similar path!
what will I post about?
Tumblr media
my learning journey - any topics that were difficult for me, general info about what I'm learning (Python, sql, statistics, etc)
tips for improving Korean
probably some kpop/kdrama content
reblogs about coding, korean, studying in general
goals
Tumblr media
keep up a consistent study habit!
build some cool portfolio projects!
make helpful youtube videos!
minimizing my perfectionism!
I would love to interact with anyone that
is also studying computer science in any discipline, though other data nerds are very welcome
is learning korean, japanese, mandarin, cantonese, tagolog
loves kdrama or kpop
is nuerodivergent in some way
is also a minority in their field
is a fellow cajun koi academy student
is 18+
im excited to start this journey with yall!
Goodbye~~

Introduction to this studyblr/langblr
Hi there :) Gonna introduce myself here and talk a little bit about this account ⊂(•‿•⊂ )*.✧
So, some facts about me ⬇️
📖 Why I started this account: I've had a studygram (Instagram) for a year now and I've always wanted to create a studyblr around here. So as a 2022 goal, I decided to start using Tumblr as well.
☁️ What you'll find here: I'll mostly post photos, study inspo, book reviews, stationery stuff I use, journaling, my study routine, goals and achievements on my language studies and cool facts/curiosities about studying to be a librarian. And of course, coffee pics.
📖 How can you call me/pronouns: simply L., that stands for my initial and my profession, and I go by she/her.
☁️ Study aesthetic: I would say light academia. I mean, I love dark academia as well, but the light one just makes me feel happier :)
📖 My course: I am a university student in Library and Information Science.
☁️ Other studies: I am currently a researcher in the field of information architecture and I occasionally work with databases.
📖 My biggest goal: Have a doctorate before age thirty.
☁️ Where I am from: I live in Brazil.
📖 Languages: I speak Portuguese, English, some Spanish. I'm currently learning German (A2), Japanese (A1) and Russian (A1).
☁️ Music: Overall, I listen to and love everything that's electronic. I'm really into vaporwave, sythwave, psy-trance, downtempo, electro swing etc. Also a big big fan of J-pop. For studying I prefer lo-fi, chillhop, a soft jazz or indie rock.
📖 Places I love to go: Coffeeshops in general, Starbucks, museums, libraries, university, malls.
☁️ Hobbies: making coffee and latte art, drawing statues, writing, blogging, reading, being with my cats, hanging out alone or w/ friends, watching soap opera, buying stationary stuff, cooking and being a tourist on my city.
📝 Studyblr tracking: #librariansjournal
That's it! Nice to meet y'all (・ω・)つ⊂(・ω・)

hallo! salut! shin sibh!
i’ve recently hit a complete wall w/ my language studies and i thought a langblr would be a great way to bring back my motivation and meet likeminded people! i am a uni student studying applied languages and translation with french and german, i have also studied spanish and am a beginner self-studying (for now) scottish gaelic and haitian creole. i would also love to learn arabic, russian and mandarin chinese, among others.
next year i will be doing my dissertation and i'm looking at writing it on post-colonial linguistics or literature, the impact of language and language policy as a tool to uphold colonialism, or the use of AAVE/MLE as minstrelsy, resources for which i would also like to find/share on here if anyone is interested!
ANYWAY tl;dr i'd love to meet fellow langblr/studyblr people or generally anyone interested in languages/history on here! pls follow if u want to be friends! <3

@void-fireworks has enabled me so we're doing this, actually
SO
one day, like 6 months ago, i came to the disappointing realization that it's ridiculously hard to find good wlw representation in media. sure, it's getting better now, there's more and children's cartoons aren't afraid to have wlw relationships anymore, but there still isn't much. and you know. as a wlw myself, i didn't like that! at all!
so i huffed. i rolled up my sleeves and opened a word doc. "fine. i'll do it myself."
thus the lesbians of london wip was born. and with it came the main characters, marianne and caroline.
the best way to describe caroline is "overachieving light academia rich kid". you know those studyblrs who consume unhealthy amounts of caffeine and post pretty pictures of museums and chessboards? that's her to a t. she comes from a really well-off family that always pushed her to be the best- they were good people, to be clear!!! they were always very supportive of her and never forced her into anything she really didn't want to do. she does however put far too much pressure on herself and literally doesn't know when to stop.
anyways fast forward to present day and she's living in a nice flat in london, playing competitive chess, performing classical music and writing. she's not actually a lesbian despite the title of the wip, she's bi, probably asexual but i'm not sure about that part yet.
AND THEN there's marianne. she's all neon lights and candy smiles- she's a popstar. a celebrity. a singer. she came from a pretty normal family in terms of income but she was catapulted into the limelight at a young age and her parents (definitely not the best people. i'm sure they loved her but they were so bad at parenting) have been profiting heavily off of it. child star turned popular singer type beat, you know? and so marianne does Not know how to interact with people and she's got some other issues too. (she's the lesbian!!!!)
there is also another character- marianne's manager who causes problems accidentally but means well. part comedic relief part plot device part parental figure. her name is annabel and she is wonderful.
the current plan for it is that they meet when a meet and greet of marianne's is held in the same general area as caroline's chess competition. and the entire story (at least my plan for it so far) is just. a lovely little meet-cute slice of life of them learning to love each other and grow as people together. they are So supportive and each try their best to become better and help the other try to unlearn their unhealthy habits and heal and they both learn that it's ok to be vulnerable and imperfect sometimes!!! (i think there should be a confrontation scene with marianne's family too. maybe. that would be therapeutic probably)
basically i just wanted a story about a healthy wlw couple just... living their life. and i didn't get it so i did it myself! and that is lesbians in london :]

Hello! You’ve been like one of my fave studyblrs for a while now and i just get so motivated to work and study. And i love studyblr in general but i feel sad how i haven’t made any friends yet and I keep comparing myself to other blogs that get more likes and stuff and I know it shouldn’t be about the numbers or the friends but it feels a big lonely ig? Do you have any tips on how to overcome this?
oh that’s so kind of you, thank you aaaaaa you just made my morning :,)
ah yeah, i know it can feel quite lonely at first, but it always changes when you least expect it, you do end up finding your people! it’s really easy to feel small and insignificant, especially if you get intimidated a bit by numbers like notes and how many asks you get in comparison to other blogs, but i promise that behind every ‘big’ studyblr, there’s just a slightly confused, often stressed, and sometimes lonely person, not unlike yourself :) seriously, once you truly grasp the fact that we’re all Just Students, making their way through the chaos of academia, it’s a lot easier to reach out.
which brings me to my main piece of advice - get involved: - send people asks! (a super easy, no pressure way to do this is to send in a prompt when sb’s doing an ask game, throw in a ‘hope your day’s going well!’ for a bit of a more personal note and voilà) - leave feedback in the tags (i always read what people say in the tags when they reblog my posts<3) - participate in challenges and celebrations - send them a dm about a shared interest if you notice you both like xyz!
honestly, i usually just slide into ppl’s dms i think, but if any of my friends on here would like to comment on how we became friends, please do bc i cannot remember sfghjklq  (i do remember @jeonchemstudy and i meeting bc i left my posts in her tag and then we started sending each other ask game asks and talking in the tags and now here we are)
i might’ve forgotten sth bc this is the 2nd time i’m writing this (i, your local Fool, accidentally deleted it the first time lol), but the most important thing to keep in mind is that, like i’m sure you’ve noticed, this is a really wholesome community and i have not once seen a studyblr that wasn’t open to meeting new people, so i really just want to say: go for it. if you see sb you think you wouldn’t mind having a conversation with, start one! it can be about anything, as long as you’re nice and respectful, no one will mind :) of course, it doesn’t always end in friendship, we are all different after all and sometimes a one-time conversation is all you have, but that’s okay! it’s never because you’re too awkward or whatever else your small insecurities may tell you, you guys just aren’t on the same particular wavelength x
oh, p.s.: you could also join a studyblr-run discord, @hyperchemblr owns a really nicely organized server where you can meet loads of people, and i have a smaller server where we get together to play among us (among other stuff).

I’m a new studyblr, and I was wondering if you had any tips on studyblr in general? Do I have to make a studyblr intro or anything, and how would you recommend I get involved in the community? Thank you!
hi anon! first of all: WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY!!!
thank you so much for reaching out and please feel free to message me or send me an ask any time!
here are some of my tips for a new studyblr:
make a studyblr intro post!
this is very useful for a number of reasons:
firstly, it allows you to introduce yourself and give your name (or nickname), interests and hobbies etc. this is really important in the studyblr community because at the end of the day we are all people and we want to meet others who share similar interests. you could also give your country (only if you are comfortable with this) if you want to find soem studyblrs to conenct with who are from your country/speak your language
secondly, it is a really good place to let people know what you are studying! i would suggest including the subjects you are studying and your level of study (eg uni or hs). this is helpful because people who study the sames things as you (or maybe did in the past) can reach out and you can build a mini support system!
thirdly, it gives you the chance to tag the studyblrs that inspired you! this is useful because these studyblrs will usually reblog your post which allows you reach a wider bunch of people (who could then reach out to you for the reasons above). i personally always reblog any intro posts that i’m tagged in (and lots that i’m not) and i will check out the blog and have a look at your posts (and probably reblog a few or put them in my queue). also, just generally i always find it so nice to hear that my blog has inspired someone! i just makes my day
think of a tagging system!
this doesn’t have to be very complex just think about what you will tag on your posts so you can keep track of them (eg. you could tag posts that you reblog that you think will be useful in the future with #ref). i would especially recommend having a specific tag for your original content (for example my tag for this is #my notes) and/or your text posts (my tags for this are #sophie speaks and #me). it’s quite useful to put your tag for original content in your bio so people finding your blog can quickly find your original content
if your blog is a sideblog, let people know!
you don’t *have* to do this, however, i would personally recommend doing it because it can sometimes be confusing when i see people comment on my posts and it is a random blog that i’ve never seen before and isn’t even studyblr. often if i check it and look deeply, it is just the main blog of one of my mutuals. so i personally think it is quite useful to put your main blog in your studyblr bio (if it is a sideblog) so that people know that it is you when you comment/send asks etc. it also lets people know that you follow back through your main account
now for getting involved in the community:
send asks and messages to people!
you are already doing pretty well on this one considering you’ve sent me this ask! but i highly recommend sending asks to people, for example, if they reblog an ask game post or even just asking for some advice because they will start to recognise you as someone who is engaged with their blog and you could also learn something new about one of your favourite studyblrs!
messages are also a great, slightly more personal, way to interact with people. it can be as simple as messaging people to tell them you love their blog, or again asking them for some advice. if they do a post about a test or exam that they have coming up, you could even message them good luck or ask how it went. i have had some amazing conversations with people through messages and it is a great way to meet new people
just a reminder: always be respectful and polite in messages and asks to ensure that the community remains positive
reblog posts with a comment on their posts!
(or just add a comment, although this could be confusing if your studyblr is a side blog so just be warned [see above])
this is a really nice way to let people know you’ve seen their post and it is always nice to give feedback. a comment can be as simple as: i love your handwriting! or good luck in that test! but that simple message reaching out it so nice to get! also, reblogging is really helpful to blogs because it means more people see the post
join a challenge!
ok, so i’ve had this blog for about a year and a half now and i had a pretty decent amount of followers (which i seriously do not understand XD) but i never got the same amount of interaction and involvement in the studyblr community until i created my #2020 quarantine challenge (click here if you wanna find out about this). i would get reblogs and likes on posts but i don't think that i used to get nearly as much interaction with my posts with people leaving comments and stuff. furthermore, although i had blogs where we were technically mutuals, i didn’t really have mutuals like i do know where we actively keep in touch and check out each other’s posts all the time and stuff and that is honestly the nicest thing
challenges mean that you are most likely posting every day (or at the very least pretty regularly if you cannot manage every day) and this is good because you post lots of new content for people to discover. another great thing is that there is usually a tag that you can search for and scroll through and find others who are doing the challenge alongside you. the person who created the challenge also probably checks the tag out every few days and reblogs the posts
for these reasons, i cannot highlight how amazing challenges are for interaction and getting involved in the community!
(btw, this isn’t just a self promo for my own challenge - although i would love for you to join in cause i love seeing what everyone posts - it is just that this is the challenge that i am currently involved in and i know is going on right now! i also know that @stu-dna (amazing studyblr for the record - you shoudl defintely follow) has done a few challenges in the past which have been so fun even though i was really bad at keeping up with them XD so check out her blog so you’ll know if she does another one!)
These are all the things i can think of right now! i really hope this was helpful and is you have any questions, or want me to explain anything further, just send me another ask and i’ll do my best to help!
- Sophie xxx
P.S. >  let me know what your studyblr is and i’ll definitely check it out

studyblr introduction time!
Hello all! I’ve been a lurker in the studyblr community for about 4 years now, but I’m currently on a gap year and applying to university this fall, so I’ve decided it’s finally time to get serious about running a studyblr!
about me
My name is Harrison (you can also call me Harris or Harry), I’m a cis guy, and I’m gay
I’m 17, a Scorpio, an INTP, and a Slytherin
I’m extremely nocturnal! I often sleep during the afternoon and I’m awake during the night and morning. I adopted this schedule during quarantine, because I noticed late at night and early in the morning were when I was most productive.
I love the Etruscans, and I hope to eventually study Etruscology in Italy!
I’m American but I’m only applying to UK universities. My dream school is Oxford, and I’m also applying to St. Andrews, Edinburgh, Durham, and Warwick.
I’m hoping to study Classical Archaeology and Ancient History.
I’m a staunch environmentalist, and I’m very interested in how climate change affects endangered languages and those who speak them.
I love coffee, cold weather, books, baking, anime, video games, and stationery, among many other things.
When studying, I primarily listen to Twitch streams/vods or one of the many lo-fi music and other genre compilations/livestreams on YouTube.
Subjects I’m interested in include: history (ancient history, history of art, historical fashion, and much more), archaeology, the classics, philology, literature, languages, linguistics, theology, anthropology, music, mathematics, and politics.
Four of my favourite books are: Giovanni’s Room, Call Me By Your Name, The Song of Achilles, and Eugene Onegin
goals for this studyblr
In general, keep myself productive, hold myself accountable, and develop more self-discipline
Study for the SAT/SAT Subject Tests
Continue to improve my Latin
Self-teach myself languages (Japanese, Italian, and Ancient Greek, with possibly more to come)
Read one book a week for the foreseeable future (I’m already on week four!)
Keep up with my writing, both academic and fiction, since I’m not in school
Keep up with studying math (even though I’m a humanities student at heart I still love math)
Generally continue to expand my knowledge about things that interest me
some of my favourite studyblrs
@studyblr @studylustre @acataemic @etudiare @study-van @intellectys @problematicprocrastinator @frnech @mid-afternoon-tea @serendistudy @illya-studies @studythenight-away @athenastudying@coralstudiies @lawyerd @elleandhermione @coffeeandpies
Can’t wait to settle in! Would love to meet any other people studying/wanting to study similar subjects, other Oxford students/applicants, other Americans applying to the UK, or other male-run studyblrs :)

𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐋𝐎 𝐓𝐔𝐌𝐁𝐋𝐑! <𝟑𝟑
i’m rani (she/her), and as you can most likely tell, i’m new and was told to make an introductory post.
i’d like to eventually create a writeblr or litblr or studyblr but i think if i join the community for now and then start posting, that might be better so that i can learn. i also really wanna meet new people to be friends with. [tracking: #userrani]
i’m seventeen, live on USA’s east coast, and am a first generation indian american. i’m an infj, a gryffinclaw, and an aquarius capricorn cusp! i aspire to be grunge but i do not have the money for that. sometimes i wish i was cottagecore but the truth is i’m not soft enough. i’m into a lot of fandoms but i don’t really know how that works on here. maybe i should make a list of what i like later?
i love reading basically every genre. i mostly write young adult fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, contemporary, etc, (and i almost always manage to work romance in) but i also write poetry, microfiction, and some random short stories/musings. i have a couple wips that i’ll talk about later!  i like to make aesthetic edits and moodboards but i honestly need to work on it, it’s not great. i want to get better at working with photoshop and would appreciate any tips. i really like photography too!
i don’t know if this blog is going to be strictly writing, strictly edits, or just a whole lot of everything until I figure out what i want to do. maybe i’ll make a separate one for each type? i also have very little to no knowledge on how to use & navigate tumblr: send help! i have no idea what the ‘etiquette’ is and appreciate any tips or comments no matter how small.
please reblog or like this intro post so I can find some more blogs to follow, and i’d love to make friends, so please message me too! also, if you have any favourite blogs or users, please tell me so i can follow them.
big thanks to the following people for inspiring me and being lovely, helpful friends: @ogygiae @ladygaladriels @thorne @rapunzelles @goldbonne @lastsolympian

Hey :) 6, 11 and 32 for the studyblr ask game! I hope you have a great day 🤍
Hey! Sorry for the long answers - why say it in one word when 100 will do?!
6. Career Goals?
Currently they’re a little bit vague. I was aiming for a PhD and eventually a career as a historian but I’m not sure after last term, although I think this wobble is because of the effects of Covid than not wanting to be an academic.
Otherwise, I’ll be training as a history teacher most likely - I want to do something directly linked to my degree, which as a history student isn’t the most open of fields. I used to want to be a curator but that’s as likely as my ambitions to be an academic - only one difficult career at a time!
11. Current favourite class and why?
Well, I study part time because of I’m a carer for my mum which means I only take one module each term (plus my thesis). So by default it’s my module on ‘Themes and Approached to the Historial Study of Religious Cultures’. Honestly, it’s a bit rubbish because it’s all political history and they’ve forgotten researching religion should actually involve, you know, religion... I still miss my favourite class from third year of undergrad on ‘Protest, Piety, and the Parish, c.1600-1660′.
If we’re counting my thesis as a class, that would be it because I haven’t reached the stage where I hate it yet. Currently loving the drama over where to place your communion table.
32. Describe your favourite professor and why you like them.
My favourite lecturer is still my dissertation supervisor from my undergrad. His name is Dr Chris Langely and he’s slightly...eccentric, but the best lecturer you could ask for.
He’s passionate about the 17th century, particularly Scotland, but you could ask him anything and he’d give you an answer and a stack of reading you could do (we tested him once with slavery in the Ottoman Empire, his answer was quite impressive!) He is always happy to help his students, well those who actually try - you have to do your own research but he’s there to point you in the right direction. He’d also regularly break the rules to have extra chats about my dissertation and read draft work (our favourite get around was a detailed bullet point plan - you could take out the bullet points and have an essay...)
He also gave the best feedback - it was actually useful. I’m still in shock! He’s a harsh but fair marker and actually looked to help his students with their weaknesses rather than give generic feedback to half his class. I still love my opening line from my first piece of feed back from him ‘you write with confidence and swagger’ - to this day the best comment someone has ever made for making me cackle and feel better about my academic writing style.
On top of knowing just about everything, Chris is actually hilarious. Seminars, tutorials, even just meeting him in the corridors often ended up with me and my friends in stitches. Even lecturers were fairly informal and stuffed with sarcastic comments and asides about the week’s theme. Made a few slow weeks a lot more entertaining...
On a silly note, he used to buy me coffee for tutorial (the fastest way into my good graces is through coffee!) Our tutorials were over an hour long and we’d always go to sit in starbucks because he had to share an office with an acient history lecturer who used to get annoyed with us because we got excited over obscure bits of theology. So I got coffee and a great chat about history - what more could you want?
Honestly, he’s a slightly mad, but incredibly intelligent, sweetheart. He cares a lot about his students, especially once you do a dissertation with him - he’ll watch over your career like a hawk until you’re settled in a job (in or outside academia) and he knows you’re okay. He made my whole experience at undergad a little bit better and I genuinely miss our chats about random bits of early modern history. I learnt so much from him and it’s still a bit weird that I can’t just walk over to his office for half an hour.
Oh, and he now answers all email to me as ‘Christ’ because I kept accidentially emailing him as Christ instead of Chris because of autocorrect on my phone... Even the one I sent him earlier this week... Oops!

I've never done this type of post before but it's sort of still within the studyblr theme and I have some Thoughts™ so I may as well.
I can't do a read more on mobile and this will be a long post so be warned.
One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus Review (contains spoilers)
Tumblr media
(excuse the bad cropping I tried)
The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars, One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.
Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn't an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who's still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.
Description from Goodreads.com
TW - mentions and themes of depression, suicide, mental illness, homophobia, being outed
What I liked
I generally liked the four main characters, they have personalities and flaws and they're likeable for the most part
Addy's character arc was probably my favourite, her realisation that Jake was a controlling boyfriend, cutting off her hair and expressing herself, becoming more independent from her mother and learning to improve her relationship with her sister, in general I liked the character she became by the end
Speaking of sisters, I liked the dynamic between Maeve and Bronwyn. Bronwyn doesn't baby her despite her medical history and they get on well, as well as the odd normal sibling arguments
Despite being sceptical at first, I thought Nate and Bronwyn's romance was quite cute by the end of the novel
There was decent suspense surrounding the mystery
As much as I found flaws in Cooper's story (see below) I liked how he could have been the horrible jock, but he was actually a decent person. A nice difference from the typical jock character
Nonny is my favourite adult. We love wise old ladies
What I disliked
I called quite a lot of the major plot points. Not to brag or anything, but it shows it's slightly predictable at times. I predicted that Bronwyn and Nate would get together pretty early in the book, I predicted that Janae would be involved, I predicted that it would be a suicide. I predicted those last two about 2/3 of the way through the book so it wasn't obvious from the start but yeah
The characters are very one dimensional and stereotypical at the start, and if it weren't for sheer will power I would have given up fairly quickly. Bronwyn is a geek who does all the extracurriculars, Nate is a bad boy with a criminal record, Cooper is great at sports and Addy is very shallow. Literally what they're said to be on the title in the first few chapters
The good girl/bad boy romance between Bronwyn and Nate was predictable. I've read enough Wattpad books to know the formula and spot the signs - childhood friends, pretend to have nothing to do with each other but actually have feelings for each other secretly, good girl finds out that bad boy has bad home life, bad boy finds out good girl isn't as much of a rule stickler as first appears, love. Ta da. A couple
I was disappointed with Cooper's arc and story. I thought near the start when it was shown that all of them have secrets "If one of the characters' secrets is that one of them is gay, that could be cool to explore the themes of homophobia in high schools. It would be even cooler if it was Cooper, as toxic masculinity within sports is a problem" I was proud of myself for kind of calling that one but I was disappointed with how it was handled
I feel like we could have seen more of Cooper and his father repairing their relationship after Cooper is forced to come out due to circumstances. Like the father is disappointed, then a couple chapters later he's kind of talking to him again only after Cooper starts receiving baseball offers again. There's no awkward conversation, no trying to understand from the father, it just happens and then it seems to be over and is never touched on again. There could have been a lot more done with this plot point and I feel he was robbed of the character development that the other three got, especially Addy. I was so happy with her arc and disappointed with Cooper's
There was no follow up with the police basically outing Cooper and getting away with it?? Like there's talk of people being angry at what the police did but the police never faced consequences nor was there any discussion within the novel about why outing someone is bad. I know it's not the main plot of the novel and I'm not expecting a Simon-Martin-carpark masterpiece exchange like in Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda but there could have been something??
Sidenote - I want to do more book reviews, especially on queer books, and Simon will be the first.
There was the cafeteria scene and the mention of those boys being nasty at a baseball game but Cooper faces relatively little opposition after coming out. Yes, I want queer characters to be happy. Yes, I know this is not the main plot of the book. I'm just saying Cooper was robbed of a good character arc and if there had been more between him and his father I would have less complaints
I get why he cheated on Keeley, compulsory heteronormativity is a real and difficult problem, but Cooper faces no consequences for cheating on Keeley. She's not my favourite character for reasons I don't know how to explain but she deserved better
The explanation of how and why for the ending is confusing to read, we know almost nothing before Janae reveals everything. It's a lot of info to take in at once and so it makes everything very confusing
OK here we go, my big problem with the book - its handling of mental health, particularly depression, self harm and suicide. Final TW before things get serious.
The final twist of revealing that Simon's death wasn't murder, it was suicide - I get he was depressed, I get his reasons, but I've also seen other people complain about this - Suicide is a delicate and serious topic that needs to be handled with sensitivity and shouldn't be a plot twist for shock factor. No hate to the author, but it needs to be said, I don't like how this was handled at all
I have similar comments to write for Leah's character
Final rating - 2/5 (⭐⭐⚫⚫⚫)
The characters are what saves this from a lower rating. I was disappointed in general - with Cooper's arc, the handling of sensitive topics and the ending. I'd heard such good things about this book and I'm disappointed.
If you liked this book, tell me why! Yes I was very critical, but I want to hear different opinions so my view of the book becomes more rounded. I want to do more of these so I hope you enjoyed :)

hi! i’m piri -- welcome to my blog! i’m an undergrad freshman studying computer science and biology.
i love all things science, engineering, technology, and art, and more beyond that! i hope this blog can be a place where i can share my passions, inspire others, and keep myself accountable. that being said, here’s some stuff about me! i’m super friendly and always willing to chat, so feel free to send a message my way!
quick intro&
call me piri! i’m 18 and a college undergrad freshman in the usa. i’m majoring in computer science and biology, and am super interested in computational biology. i want to be a researcher and/or work in drug/therapeutics development someday.
fields of interest: biotech, genetics, statistics/data science, programming, machine learning, architecture, philosophy, graphic design hobbies: art, dance, music (violin/piano)
i’m a huge fan of k-pop and anime, and a huge multi, so hmu about pretty much anything!
why did i start this blog?&
i’ve always been super passionate about things i love, and now that i’m in college, i’m surrounded by it! i oftentimes get distracted by my interests, so i’ve created a studyblr so i can focus my energy towards doing something productive, and also so i can keep track of my progress throughout my academic career! i’m also hoping to make friends with others with similar interests!
what content will i post?&
lots of aesthetics and ~o r g a n i z i n g~, bc i love them! you guys will be seeing my notes, to-do lists, course plans, and so much more. i am attempting to go paperless this semester since i just got an ipad. also expect lots of study tips and mini rants/lessons/lectures about stuff i love (most likely biology). in general, just a whole lot of chaotic but wholesome content that will hopefully help you out in your own study journeys!
goals for 2020&
since i’m conveniently starting this studyblr just in time for the turn of the decade, i figured i would share some goals of mine!
⋆ read more, especially classics and books that make me think! ⋆ along the same train of thought, read more philosophical texts. ⋆ stop stressing about the far-off future, but plan better for the immediate one. ⋆ focus better! ⋆ self-study a language -- both a language language and a programming one! ⋆ make friends here!
studyblr inspo&
there’s not many, but there’s a few studyblr’s that i’ve seen around that were pretty pivotal in my decision to start my own studyblr! i hope to meet more of you guys soon uwu
@geekstudying @emmastudies @studyquill @warmhealer
please please please don’t hesitate to hit me up if we have shared interests or just if you want to get to know each other better!

hii im from sg too heh I really love your studyblr 💞 do you have any advice for someone who wants to take english literature in the future? how is uni like so far? also do you mind sharing your gpa? would it be realistic to aim for a 4.0? sorry for having so many questions😅
hi!! i dont meet a lot of people from sg here so thank u for liking my studyblr!! i really hope you really enjoy reading because we do a lot of that no joke hehehe. please note that my experience here would be from the perspective of a comms poly student that had not done literature since Os until now.
for now uni has been pretty mediocre for me. i think its really important to find people that can support each other and help each other out because it can get pretty competitive as usual. in ntu, our gpa grading system is up to the maximum of 5.0 (but honestly i’ve never heard of anyone getting that before) the grading system is pretty harsh in the sense that getting an average above 3.0 is pretty decent already. so to get an average of 4.0, you’ll have to get an average of above B+ for all your modules. for your first year, that may be possible but i would suggest lowering your expectations a little because most students usually hit the B/B+ area. i attached a chart that states the general letter grade corresponding to the GPA below so do check it out!
it was difficult for me to come to terms that i would be going up against JC students who have been studying literature for a longer time than i have and would have more experience than me. i was worried that i would not be able to catch up with the studying pace since we would be covering a lot of content in a week. but thankfully i was doing okay and did pretty decently for my first semester. i wont be sharing my gpa here but i did manage to get 1 A, 3 A- and 1 B+ out of my 5 modules, 2 of the As being literature modules.
i would say depending on what mods you pick other than the compulsory literature mods, it could be possible to do pretty well. i picked out harder modules this time round but with constant work, i could cope. feel free to ask more questions if you like!
