Going over more of the photos from my favorite trips in 2023. This time it's my trip to Crater Lake in Oregon. Located roughly in the lower western portion of the state. And it felt like the longest drive ever, from Eugene. One stretch of road was very long and straight with nothing to look at for many miles.
However, the payoff once I arrived at Crater Lake was magnificent. Amazing views and a lot of hiking. Since I was there in the middle of the week there weren't as many tourists. Also, it was after Labor Day and most kids are back in school by that time, so it was less families and more single people and older couples. It was nice and quiet there.
These are the first round I'm posting from that trip. See more next week.

Wednesday Random Art Post. (WRAP)
For today's WRAP, a drawing I did for a game concept many moons ago at a certain large company, about and evil genius (aren't they all?) Doctor in his lair, who in the game, was trying to take over the world and the player had to figure out how to stop him at every level of the game. I've got some color concept art for this as well but chose not to show it. Just talking about it back and forth with the game play designer was fun and exciting enough to get me inspired.

I've done a ton of background paintings over the years for many game companies. Trying a different style and technique here.

I drew a Dragon every day when I got covid at the beginning of the pandemic. And most of them are here in this book, along with a description of what was going on with me at that time. And despite all that, the drawings are a lot of fun to look at. Get yourself a copy today.

Concept Doodles help to release stress and have some fun in between all the stuff you have to do for your job.
This set of Doodles is basically about HATS! From the time I was a kid, I've always loved wearing hats. So for this session of Doodles I made different hats on some humans and hats on some basic creatures.
What do you do to release stress on a daily basis?

Some years ago I worked on a picture book concept called "Peach Blossom's Birthday Party" and did a ton of drawings for it. Here are a couple of those drawings with the color versions.

A few years ago I decided to use a thick ink brush pen (Tombow ABT N15) to do some striped down, simple and quirky ink drawings. This was so much fun. Need to do more soon.
I only have names for three of them. Middle Left: "Guitar with Puppets"
Bottom Left: "Coffee Well of Souls" and the Bottom Right: "Planet of Robots at Sunset"

For so much of what we do as artists in the game biz, we concentrate on so many tiny details and making sure we get all the items in that a game needs to attract eyes. A simpler approach is just as appealing and can be done faster and at a lower cost. And there are plenty of examples out there. Here is just one example of a concept that I pitched but sadly, didn't go anywhere. I'm not a game play designer so my thoughts about how to play the game was about as simple as the art for the game. I still think it could have worked. "Newbies"

Having seen my first Troll a month ago in Issaquah, I’ve found out that there are 5 here in Western Washington State. So on Sunday I took a pilgrimage to see the other two that are on the main land. There is one more on Vashon Island and another on Bainbridge Island. I’ll see those maybe next month.
The first one that I saw on Sunday was over at the National Nordic Museum in Ballard. Right in front of the entrance. Instead of out in nature, like the rest of them.
And then the one in West Seattle at the beach in Lincoln Park. I ran into an ex-coworker from Pokemon and we talked for a while. That was fun.
