Pride month reblog.
The "I'm not homophobic/transphobic because I don't *fear* gay/trans people" line proper irks me.
Firstly, it's ignoring the definition of phobia, which is an irrational fear or aversion to somthing. This is because it comes from the Greek ψόβος (Phóbos) which is used interchangeably for fear or aversion. This is because it comes from the word φέβομαι (Phébomai) which means to run from.
And before we get the "oh your just using a technically for the gays", oh no sweetie, we've been using Phobia for aversion long before you hit the scene.
If something is hydrophobic, it does not have a fear of water, but is instead greatly averse to it and repels it.
If you are Photophobic, you are not afraid of light, you are extremely sensitive to it and therefore adverse to it.
If an animal is Thermophobic, that doesn't mean it has a fear of heat, it just avoids hot environments and prefers cold ones. (This is normally applied to bacteria in terms of organisms, but its perfectly acceptable to apply it to larger organisms like penguins).
So no, you haven't got some slam-dunk with "phobia means fear and I'm not afraid." You're just showing that you know nothing about the usage of the word Phobia over the past 2000-3000 years because you only know of a clinical diagnosis that shares the suffix Phobia.

Yeah should add for clarity, I always correct people of they mention it and then do the "you don't need to be trans to believe they are legitimate people" dance.
Like I would never say " I am trans" or lie about that shit. I just want to lean into this very weird presumption that my pro-transness makes me trans so more people ask and therefore I get to tell more people "my love, that's not how it works". And then direct them to actual trans networks at my org if they want to learn more.
I was just concerned that leaning into this, intentionally knowing people will make such presumptions and thus making it like reverse-passing, could upset the trans community.
Trans-tumblr, I need advice.
(Gay cis man in the uk for context)
So basically at my work organisation, we have a pride lanyard, but my department made their own lanyard and are pressuring people to ditch personalised lanyards (including the pride lanyard work gave people who were lgbt)
I haven't given up my lanyard yet (I will not do so unless expressly ordered) but I have been protesting this pressure in my own way. My main one has been adopting the Progress pride flag (the one withe the trans and blm arrows) pin as part of my uniform, putting the PPF on my noticeboard, and am now my departments representative for the orgs LGBTQ+ Network.
This led to a *lot* of students asking, or demanding, to know if I'm trans. So I need Trans approval for something.
Basically, I wanna lean into this to help trans visability. I wanna buy trans-flag colours, get motivational pin ups for my office, and theres a reslly cool "trans women are women" pendant I wanna buy and wear at work.
But, ofc, this means that at first instance, I am knowingly letting a lot of students think I'm trans at first instance, when I 100% am not, just to double-tap them to learn more about lgbtq people.
Trans community, is this a problem for you? I'm not pretending to be trans but actively am leaning into peoples stereotypes (mainly wearing trans pride things and being uber supportive) to direct them in the right direction.
Also @agoddamnedrayofsunshine tagging you cause you have the best opinions on things like this.

Hypothesis: Time Travel is possible, but the reason we don't have visitors from is future is because they are moving through time, not space. Therefore with the solar system moving 448,000 mph, they end up millions of miles away in the dark void of space.

If you are in the UK and search TERF things enough, you will get a sponsored ad by Refuge asking if you think women's rights are upheld enough in the UK.
(I tested this by looking into Robbie Travers twitter every day for a month)
Please note they only ask this so they can fudge data on single-sex spaces for domestic abuse victims.
Look, honestly, I am 100% in favour of specialised single-sex spaces in place for those who need them.
But
Let's not pretend this is anything other than a registered charity trying to limit its responsibilities by shifting goalposts.

There is no "trans debate", but I will die on the hill that Americans are wrong for putting periods and commas inside quotation marks.
there is no “trans debate.” you either believe in the rights of all people to personal freedom, bodily autonomy, privacy, and self-identification, or you’re just a bad person.

I mean even if we take them on their "best" argument which is more translating pro life into "anti murder" (and thus side stepping most of the things you brought up), they are still hypocrites.
The death penalty is murder.
The military is state-sanctioned murder.
Special police protections for extra judicial killings exist.
Yet a rediculous amount support all the above to a fanatic degree.
Like personally I see a strong military and a capable police force as necessary evils. But a necessary evil is still an evil. Pragmatism and ideals are very different.
But their ideals make no sense other than "its only okay to kill when its people we don't like" and thst disgusts me.
On a personal note, I was pro-life because I was extremely anti-murder. I saw it as horrible that people could be seen as burdens and killed for it. You can imagine how betrayed I felt when the people I associated with thought that killing is 100% A-OK if its a racial minority. Or a Gay. Or someone Disabled.
Honestly the best argument against a prolifer is a 10 minute conversion with one.
Never thought I'd be one of the people to do this but I want to make this crystal fucking clear.
Pro lifers do not fucking interact with me please. I'm done talking to you. You will be blocked on sight and i will not read another fucking word of your nonsense.
I have less respect for you and your kind than probably any other demographic and that's saying a lot.

As someone who was formally very Pro-life (not anymore don't ban hammer me, I reformed) Modern Prolifers are hypocrites.
If you were genuinely pro life you would oppose the death penalty with every fiber of your being.
You wouldn't stand by as people like Steven Anderson run Churches that actively Campaign to kill gay people.
You would be opposed to conversion therapy for trans people that actively increases suicide rates.
Honestly, pro choicers never had to convince me to jump ship. The vile hypocrisy of pro lifers did that for me. I don't trust anyone in the movement anymore because to look at your colleagues and not be disgusted shows me either 1. You are just as bad or 2. You have no sense of moral consistency.
Never thought I'd be one of the people to do this but I want to make this crystal fucking clear.

I graduated from my PhD (law) today and I accidentally outed myself by saying "Parents often want you to bring home a nice Lawyer or Doctor. My future fella is going to get a 2 in 1 deal" in my graduation post without thinking fella = boi cause my humour is just that good.
I now have over 50 unread messages I am not dealing with right now.
Well LGBT peeps, I'm now publically part of the Heinz Alphabetti People now.

Firstly @atethedeaddove I had to come across this in my feed because of you, so I blame you for the thread of death I just read.
Secondly
Nearly every Rad Fem who commented on this is part of the "women who partner with men are betraying women, down with the heteros!" Clique, and imma not gonna take them seriously when they accuse OP of being rapey for a tounge in cheeck comment when they are out here genuinely pressuring straight women to sleep with them.
Insane how you can say "transphobes are obsessed with trans bodies" and immediately get half a dozen TERFS crawling out of the woodwork to publicly announce how not horny they are for trans bodies.
I feel like it's gauche and incorrect to say that all TERFS are secretly horny for trans people, but If you feel the need to regularly barge into trans spaces to crow about how not horny you are for trans bodies, there is objectively a sexual element present.

Kemi Badenoch, currently running for conservative leadership to eventually be our next PM, is on record for saying that Britain is one of the least Racist countries in the world.
So to confirm that she was in fact correct, I decided to go onto one of the Conservative Party FB groups to see the obvious celebration at the prospect of a new PM with Nigerian heritage.
It seems your own party members don't agree with you Kemi.
(Also the group rules said "no racism or hate speech" yet this is still up so wtf do they consider hate speech)

There's a Facebook group called "sounds gay, I'm in" and I literally got booted and banned for saying "you know Will from Stranger things might not even be gay. He could easily be bi or Ace and it would fit his behaviour" (paraphrasing cause Im banned so can't see it anymore, also it was a comment on a ST meme, so it wasn'tl like random "Will Bi-ers chat)
Honestly, someone got so upset that their fantisised headcanon of a minor being gay may actually be something else that they yeeted me off a group of what, 13k people?
Also I'm gay myself, and I find this obsessive behaviour that a teenage boy must be gay to be a bit creepy.
Like if he is, I'll buy the fictional character a pride pin, but its not going to to emotionally affect me whatsoever if the writers take a different direction
I'm not sure whether to be more annoyed by the bi/ace eresure or by the fact this just adds to the alt-right narrative that gays are groomers.
