What I Want
O-Kiku/Yamato
Kiku wanted Deuce to interview the schools Volleyball captain, but ended up doing it herself. She ends up wanting just a little more.
(Words 959)
—————————
Kiku adored her position as club president. She could get exactly what she needed, when she needed, how she needed it. Especially when people thought she was as reputable as she was so they worked with her. Her brother being the good student he was a few years back also helped keep her record clean. People were happy to help her and she was happy to help right back!
So when Deuce texted her that he wasn’t going to be able to do this next interview for her because he had an appointment she was happy to handle it herself. She was the one who wrote the questions and was writing the article anyway, Deuce just had more time than she did. Kendo and the Newspaper club took up more time each year.
The club faculty advisor let her into the gym with a grin. “It’s good to see you Miss Kiku! How’s Izo?” Shanks was always a happy man, it was also very infectious.
She grinned over at him, he already knew how her brother was, “He’s doing well. Thank you. I’m here to speak to the team Captain?” She took a quick look at the papers again to make sure she was reading it correctly, “Kaido Yamato?”
“Of course, of course gimme a minute, I’ll go get him. He dragged one of the first years outside to practice serving,” Shanks said before casually walking out the door. Seconds later he was shouting a name.
A teen with ombré hair burst into the gym with a grin. He turned towards her and she smiled softly. He quickly made his way over to her and looked down at her before introducing himself, “Kaido Yamato. It’s nice to meet you! I’m going to be the next Kozuki Oden, and you can quote me on that.”
She had wanted to be as professional as possible. She really wanted to seem like the calm put together young adult she was trying to be. But goodness he was adorable, she laughed harder than she had in a while. She tried to collect herself, to apologize, but he was still grinning at her. As if he expected and wanted her to react like that!
“I’m—“
“Please don’t apologize! I like making cute girls like you laugh, I’m very serious about that claim, but I’m glad I could get to hear such a cute laugh,” he cut her off with a more gentle smile. He was very charming.
“Alright. I’m Akazaya Kikunojo, you can call me Kiku though. I’d like to interview you for the school paper if you have time?” She twirled her pencil on instinct as she spoke.
His eyes fell to her hand and she abruptly stopped the motion slightly embarrassed about it. He just hummed, “Would you be okay talking outside while I practice volley’s?” She had no idea what those were but she was fine with whatever. She nodded and followed him outside, he let her pull out her small recorder and start it before he moved into a position.
He started hitting the ball with the tips of his fingers on both hands, looking up at where he was sending the ball before hitting it again in the same way.
“Okay first question: Why did you choose to play Volleyball?” she always started with this question, it told her so much about someone.
“Well,” he made a face into the sky, “My dad played when he was younger and pushed me to do it too. I hated it back then, but then I saw Kozuki Oden in person once, he was so happy to be playing even though he lost and I decided that’s what I wanted to be. I wanted to have fun . Win or lose.” That was such a lovely reason. She updated her question list with that new information.
“So Kozuki Oden inspired you? He was an Ace wasn’t he? What position do you play?” She didn’t know exactly what all the terms were but that’s why they interviewed people.
“Yeah! He was a great wing spiker and the teams Ace. I may not be the team Ace but I am a wing spiker. I’ll happily leave crushing the other team to Ace, it’s fun when they realize the Ace is named Ace you know?” He laughed and she giggled at his enthusiasm.
The interview carried on a little longer and her final question got her an answer she didn’t quite expect. “So is there anything you’d tell your younger self after getting where you are?”
He stopped the ball this time and looked down at the ground, “Stop pretending you’re not a boy. You can still play how you want just the way you are.” She sucked in a breath, she didn’t even think he was... She quickly concluded the interview on her recorder and shut it off. He scratched his head and cleared his throat, “Sorry that last answer was so heavy.”
She quickly shook her head, “No, no. I get it. I get it a lot more than most people might.” She muttered the last part but he blinked at her.
So that was a thing.
He stared at her for a couple of seconds before looking at the gym building. She was going to ask what was wrong, but he dropped the ball and grabbed her hands. He looked her in the eye as he asked her a question she was not prepared for and very much did not mind, “Will you go out on a date with me?”
Izo was going to be disappointed. She was to focus on school, and college, and very much not boys. Too bad she was going to take what she wanted. “I would love that.”

The Ace
Deuce/Ace Highschool AU
Kiku once again conned Deuce into doing more work for the newspaper club and now he has to interview the volleyball clubs “Ace” and gets a little more than he expected
Cross posted on Ao3
Words: 782
————————————
Deuce loved writing, he was also one of the best journalists in the Newspaper club as Kiku liked to insist to sucker him into more projects and interviews. So now he was going to interview the volleyball team. He’d managed to corner the schools main Setter —they had actual names for these positions gods help him keep them all straight them all— Sabo yesterday and now he was attempting to find his “brother” who just so happened to be the teams Ace. Who was nowhere he was supposed to be in the school it seemed?
He gave a defeated sigh and texted Kiku.
———
> I’ll have to hop in during their practice tomorrow evening. I have homework to do tonight and I can’t find the guy you told me to talk to anywhere.
> Deuce I need that interview so we can finish the article 🥺
———
He hesitated. He could practically see Kiku making that face at him. He didn’t like this. Why was he so weak to her and her persuasive ways.
———
> Fine damn it, I’ll see if the coach will let me in to practice without prior permission. I’m blaming you if I get yelled at though
> Yay! Thank you so much Deuce, I’m sure you’ll do great!
———
He opted to ignore her instead of acknowledging her and her manipulative ways— not that he really minded, she was a good friend— and headed off to actually get lunch before the bell rang.
——————
Coach Newgate let Deuce into the sports center with a clap on the shoulder and a warning to be wary of stray shots.
“I’ll send him over once he’s done with his daily practice. He can sit out for a practice game or two to talk,” the old man waved him off to the side and started drilling his team. Sabo gave him a quick wave and started his own routine.
Deuce watched a dark haired teen toss him a ball with little interest. He was only watching Sabo because he knew the guy and he was curious about the application of what he’d described in his interview. ‘ Setting the ball involved knowing your teammates on an intimate level so I can properly sike out the other team and ensure a spike is hit at the same time, ’ Sabo has said casually as if it was the simplest thing. So he watched Sabo glance at the raven running at the net and push the ball of with the very tips of his fingers, already lining up the shot with the point the spikers hit would have the most power before the man had even left the ground. It looked like it was going to be a bit too far...
Until the man jumped and got more air than Deuce was ever going to catch in his life. With a solid thump the guys hand collided with the ball and set it hard over the net. As he fell back down Deuce could hardly breath at the look of feral determination and pride the man’s eyes held. He looked far too handsome with the triumphant grin he had as he high-fived Sabo.
Deuce watched the pair move like that for a few more sets. He had to look away and force his focus onto someone else before he had a heart attack. The raven was far too handsome. Now he just had to wait for whoever the Ace was.
“Hey! You’re Deuce right? Sabo said you’re here to interview me for the newspaper club?” A chipper voice caught his attention and he turned to greet the man, only to come face to face with the same handsome raven from earlier.
Kiku was going to have to bury him. He’s not going to survive talking to this guy for more than ten minutes. He cleared his throat, he had to try his best, he had a job and he had...
The guy leaned into his space, “You okay?” The genuine concern on his face made Deuce’s heart stutter, “You’re not intimidated are you? I hope not, a cool looking guy like you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.” He gave Deuce a boyish grin and scratched the back of his head.
“I’m fine!” He coughed to cover his sudden outburst, “Sorry I was just kind of shocked, Sabo said you were brothers and I wasn’t quite expecting you to look so different.”
The Ace sigh, “Ah, that. Most people are pretty thrown, I should’ve realized,” he held out his hand, “Portgas Ace. The teams Ace!”
Deuce took his hand and shook it, “It’s nice to meet you. Spadille Deuce.” Time to start his interview and put gay panic on the back burner... maybe.

(Y/n): *Picks up a volleyball*
(Y/n): *makes a face and drops it again*
Hinata: Are you okay?
(Y/n): Yeah. Just had flashbacks to when I used to play Volleyball
Hinata: Why did you stop?! It’s so much fun!
Daichi: *casually picking up the dropped ball* Because they were always better at receiving the ball with their face instead of their arms

Secret Santa Gift
My secret Santa for @acking-cat from our KnY server
Gyomei and his female significant other and an ambiguous celebration referenced
300 words exactly and there will be a picture eventually once my wrist is better
——————
Gyomei didn’t particularly love the cold. He loved the season and the family he’s gained. The soft mornings wrapped up in blankets with his beloved and maybe a few friends. Today it was just him and his precious snowflake. She was rushing about the house, humming and working away in the kitchen.
He didn’t know exactly what she was doing but the soft tinking noise at least confirmed she was fiddling with the stove.
“Gyomei I made tea! I hope you like it,” the bright voice startled him from his content string of thoughts.
“Thank you honey,” he smiled as she set a warm cup into his hands. The young woman’s soft lips met his cheek as he took a sip. She was a beautiful light in his dark life.
“Oh remember! We’re celebrating with everyone at the Ubuyashiki manor later, Kiriya seemed excited to see you in his letter. I keep telling him he should just come over to see you like Genya does,” she rambled away about their friends and he smiled contentedly. He was glad the love of his life was happy to entertain his friends and those he’s come to see as family. After everything she was the most precious thing he could have asked for. “Are you listening to me?”
“Listening, yes. Paying attention, not quite, I apologize sweetie. Your voice is something I’ll never tire of hearing,” the tall man stated genuinely.
“You can’t just say things like that!”
He tilted his head, “Why not? It’s the truth.”
She brought one of his hands to her warm face, “It’s embarrassing and I wasn’t prepared.”
“Then I guess I’ll just have to warn you the next time I want to tell you the truth. Won’t I, honey?” He smiled as her cheeks warmed up more.
