Character Mannerisms
Here’s some considerations for the tiny little details that can add a lot to a character. Figuring out these mannerisms can do a lot for conveying character traits through their normal actions rather than just their thoughts, dialogue, etc.
How’s their posture? There are more options than just sitting up straight or slouching a lot. What’s their most comfortable sitting position? Do they have a consistent posture or does it change depending on situation / present company?
How’s their etiquette? Do they hold the door for people behind them? How do they handle handshakes and other kinds of typical contact? Does their language change or become more formal when speaking to strangers? To their elders? To their superiors?
In a crowded space, do they get out of people’s way, or do people get out of THEIR way?
How do they point something out? Pointing their finger? Nodding their head? A flippant wave of the hand?
What are their comfort gestures or self-touch gestures? Common comfort gestures include rubbing the back of the neck or gripping their own arms. Can they suppress these gestures or do they do them often?
Also consider the character’s common reactions to common emotions. Do they whoop when they’re excited? Do they tremble when angry?
What parts of the body are the most expressive? Do they shuffle and stomp their feet a lot when agitated or excited? Are they a hand talker? Do they have an impressive range of motion with their eyebrows?
How do they sound? Do their car keys jingle as they walk? Do they drag their feet? Do their heels clack resoundingly on hard floors? Do they breathe loudly? Do they fidget in ways that make a lot of noise?
How do they handle eye contact?
Any behaviors they reserve for moments when they’re alone? (Or possibly among family/friends that don’t care?) Do they pick their nose? Do they bite their toenails? Do they sniff their armpits? Or do they not care if people see behavior like this?
Apart from comfort gestures, what else do they do to comfort themselves in trying times? What’s their go-to self care? What’s their comfort food? Where’s their safe space?
What are they doing with themselves as they’re suppressing emotion? Lip biting, fist clenching, and avoiding eye contact are common methods of coping with strong emotions.

If you’re on the verge of adulthood and you feel like you have no idea what ‘adulting’ is, you might want to check out some of these books. Here’s a list of some daunting “grown up” books that range from self help to finance:
Rich dad poor dad- I had to start with a personal finance book because lets face it, us millennials have no idea where to start with personal finances. This book was written quiet a while ago but its still relevant and  easy to read. I read this book when I was 15 and I still re-read it every year to freshen up. It does a great job of introducing you to the relationship you’ll want to have with your money
The life changing magic of tidying up- One of my all time favorites! (it pleases my inner Monica Geller) if you want to go into adulthood having a healthy relationship with the objects you buy, this is the one for you. Marie Kondo has a wealth of knowledge on efficient cleaning/ tidying methods that actually make a huge difference in helping you maintain a clear mind and a happy living space.
The 48 laws of power- ‘nuff said. Learning how powerful people work doesn’t necessarily mean you have to employ these tactics, but it’s important to recognize them when they’re being used on you.
Girl Boss- This one is popular for a reason; if you wanna know to grow a business with little capital on the internet, this is your go to. A great read, regardless if you wanna go into business or not.
5 Love languages- Another popular one. This book will help you understand communication in relationships (not just romantic ones). You can never go wrong with learning how to effectively communicate your love to the people most important to you.
Come as You Are: The Surprising New Science that Will Transform Your Sex Life- A book about female sexuality; A super insightful read regardless if you’re sexually active or not.
Freakonomics- Literally one of the most interesting books ever created. If you’re an econ geek like me or just wanna know the hidden economics of how the world works, this will be a good read for you. This is one of those books that you can never unread.
How to win friends and influence people- Similar to the 48 laws of power but with its own twist. This teaches you how to navigate the tricky world of making fiends or networking.
The Telomere Effect: A Revolutionary Approach to Living Younger, Healthier, Longer- A sciency approach to health and wellness. A perfect read to get informed about your health.
Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ- Emotional health is just as important physical health. You’re never too young to tend to your emotional well being and this book is just the place to start.
Ok, so that’s my round up of ‘grown up’ books. I hope you enjoyed and that this helped you to realize that books about life and self improvement are not just for adults. You can prepare for the life you want, you don’t have to wait for it.

5 ways to increase/decrease suspense in your writing
Suspense is one of the trickier parts of writing to manage effectively because, as the author, you can’t experience your story the way a reader does. If you don’t have enough suspense, it can be difficult to keep your readers interested. If you have too much, frustrated and stressed-out readers might throw your book against the wall. Too much suspense can even backfire - if you try to keep your readers constantly on edge, they can stop taking things seriously and the end result is as though you never included any suspense at all.
So how can you tell if you’ve reached the right balance? Unfortunately, I can’t answer that for you. Some things really do require feedback from honest and insightful readers. Once you have that feedback, however, there are easy tricks to adjusting the level of suspense without a drastic re-write. Here are my five favorite methods.
Promises and Payoffs
INCREASE SUSPENSE by promising something huge and then giving your reader something unexpected. To borrow an example from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, imagine a teenage boy and girl sneaking into an empty building. Everything from the costumes to the lighting is designed to make you uneasy about the girl’s safety but, in the end, she’s the vampire. Give the audience something sensational and they won’t be disappointed that you didn’t deliver on what you originally promised.
DECREASE SUSPENSE by promising less than you plan to deliver. For example, if you plan to kill off a character as they walk through a dark alley, let them worry about being mugged rather than murdered. Not only is it less suspenseful, the payoff is more shocking.
Characters are Crucial
INCREASE SUSPENSE by shifting the focus to a character who’s more involved in the action or one who has more at stake. Even if you have a single POV character, another can come in and demand that character’s attention, along with the readers’.
DECREASE SUSPENSE by focusing on a character who’s more concerned with a secondary goal. Subplots are a fantastic way to give your readers some room to breathe.
Calm vs. Chaos
INCREASE SUSPENSE by cutting back on the action. Suspense flourishes in the quiet moments when your characters have time to think and to anticipate what may be in store for them.
DECREASE SUSPENSE by giving your characters a big, exciting mess to deal with. Even when that mess causes more problems and puts more pressure on your characters in the long run, you’ve still created an oasis where both they and the readers are too distracted to worry about how the big picture will pan out.
Devil’s in the Details
INCREASE SUSPENSE by concentrating on the details of the setting. Horror movies are great at this - every creak of a door, every shadow across a wall keeps the audience immersed in the experience and tense with anticipation.
DECREASE SUSPENSE by breaking the “show, don’t tell” rule and allow exposition to help you move things along. You don’t need to take readers through every aspect of your story in excruciating detail. It’s okay to gloss over some things and it helps readers relax because they know you’re not going to be springing any surprises on them just yet.
Ticking Time-Bomb
INCREASE SUSPENSE by imposing a deadline that your characters struggle to meet. It’s one of the oldest and most obvious tricks in the book, but very effective.
DECREASE SUSPENSE by allowing your characters to believe that the deadline has been met or pushed back. If they (and the readers) believe that they’ve accomplished their goal or bought themselves more time, it relieves pressure and allows everyone to relax until the truth’s revealed.

Things
I want to smell like sun-kissed almond and vanilla. I want to go biking, canoeing. I want to ride the waves of the ocean, and explore the depths below. I want to take beautiful pictures of sunsets and starry nights, pretty dew covered flowers and neon signs. I want to go to old bowling alleys and skating rinks, play arcade games and eat greasy pizza. I want to draw, and write, and produce things that make people feel. I want to explore hidden trails, walk among the biggest trails on a carpet of moss, surrounded by wildflowers and ferns. I want to witness terrible storms and silent snowfalls. I want to walk in the rain, on bridges, under waterfalls. I want to wear cozy sweaters, sexy heels, pretty full-length dresses.. I want to drink mugs of tea, glasses of wine, bottles of cola, and steaming cappuccinos.
But I can’t. I’m just a kid.

New kid: Part 5.
Type: Peter parker/ Spider-man x Reader.
Description: As Y/n goes deeper into her research of the web-slinging superhero’s identity, Peter tries to make sure that Y/n stays safe.
Warnings: none.
Tumblr media
You sighed. Just how hard could it be to find this spider-boys identity, anyway? It wasn’t like there were that many kids your age that would spend their free time fighting anyone. This boy had to be one in a million. You cringed inwardly as you realized where your thoughts were wandering again.
Checking the clock, you sighed again at the glowing red numbers reading 3:00 AM. And with an english quiz tomorrow. You decided good hygiene was something you could strive for tonight, and walked into the bathroom, rubbing your tired eyes. You were probably going to have even bigger bags under them tomorrow, but oh well. It’s for a good cause, anyway.
As you drowsily brushed your teeth, you heard a faint whistling sound coming from the kitchen. It’s probably just the fridge or something, but you figured you should check.  As you walked down the hallway, the whistling stopped.
You came to the realization that you were acting like the dumb character in a horror movie, and turned around to go to bed.  Because of this, you never saw the dark figure coming up behind you.
Peter slammed his locker a little harder than usual, which made MJ raise her eyebrows at him.
“Something got you down, Pete?” She queried.
“I’m fine.” Peter muttered. He wondered why she was hanging around him and ned today. Where was Y/n? He tried (and failed) to quiet his anxious thoughts of what could have gone wrong with her investigation. He hoped she was just sick.
“Um, where’s Y/n?” He asked quietly, trying to ignore Ned smirking.
“Ah. I’m not completely certain. She isn’t answering my calls, but she was fine last night. she probably got knocked out by the flu like half the kids in school.” MJ tried to blow off Y/n missing a day, but Peter detected the worry in her voice.
He understood why. Y/n was never gone.  She prided herself on being on time or early, even for school. He decided to call her. For MJ.
As he ran to the library, he heard Ned sing song after him. “Someone’s a little worr-ied!”
He quickly dialed the number, and tried to quiet his breath while it rang. Dang, nothing. Peter thought to himself.
Ding!
He looked down in surprise at his phone, and saw a text from Y/n. One word.
Help.

New Kid: Part 4
This is a Spider-man/Peter Parker x Reader fic.
Type: School fluff
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Peter couldn’t avoid Y/N forever. He knew that she would track him down eventually, and blather on about Spider man and his schedule and how “close” she was. He definitely agreed with that. She was way too close.  If she found out, she would probably tell everyone. He couldn’t let that happen.
At lunch, she finally caught up to him. As she was running over, MJ intercepted her first.
“What’s up?” MJ queried.
“I’d love to chat, MJ, but I have to talk to Peter.” Y/N sounded serious. Very serious.
Peter gulped involuntarily as she walked briskly over.
“Peter, can I, um, talk to you? Privately?” She didn’t even wait for an answer before she grabbed his arm and practically dragged him to the library. He noticed her hair wasn’t as combed as usual, and she had bags under her eyes. Was this project so important to her?
He almost wanted to tell her, just so she wouldn’t be so stressed.... But he stopped himself. What kind of train of thought was this? A week ago, he wouldn’t have even thought of giving up himself for anything, and now he felt bad for her and was a total pushover? No. She was doing this to herself.
She pulled him behind a bookshelf and leaned closely in, their foreheads almost touching. Peter’s breath hitched. She looked like she was about to kiss him, her chapped lips, bright eyes, and strands of hair on her cheeks. He started to blush involuntarily, when she spoke.
“I think we have a mole.” She whispered loudly.
“Wha- What?” Peter’s mouth went dry. What does she know?
“Someone is feeding information to spider-man. I don’t know who found out about my research, but Spider-man? He changed his route. He’s avoiding me! That means he knows about me, and that means someone is a mole!” She spoke earnestly, but she wasn’t giving him all the information. She looked away from his eyes.
“Um, what are you going to do?” He gulped.
“No, what are we going to do?” She replied.
“Wait, what?” He could tell she was getting slightly annoyed.
“If we aren’t the moles, then we have to figure out who is! We need to work together to figure it out.” She glanced curiously at him. “Any ideas?”
She doesn’t think I’m a suspect? Peter tried to ignore the warmth he felt when he realized that. He then remembered she had asked him a question. oops.
“Well, we, uh.... We could plant some fake info and see if someone tries to take the information anywhere?” Peter stammered, his mind racing. How was he going to get out of this?
“That’s a great idea! We could tell MJ and Ned that we changed the camera locations, and if spider-man starts avoiding those locations, we know it’s one of them!!” Y/N sounded pretty excited. He wished he could muster up that much enthusiasm.
“Perfect.” Peter grinned. Y/N blushed and looked away. If he wasn’t so worried, he might have even paid attention to that.
