okay i’m going to go through something i have struggled with a lot in my mind the past few weeks in hopes it may help others who work with tarot.
going forward, if you aren’t familiar with the meanings of the cards or the associations of the crystals, there will be a link that has them all so you’ll be able to follow along:
tarot: https://labyrinthos.co/blogs/tarot-card-meanings-list
crystals: https://satincrystals.com/pages/crystal-meanings
(first photo) for the new year i did a simple past, present, future spread. i use crystals as divination tools in my tarot readings as well, just to give me a little more information. if this is something you want to adopt into your practice and want to know more information on it, i can make a post all about using crystals as divination. past card i got the magician with an opalite crystal. made sense, fine. present card i got king of pentacles with a black tourmaline, again fit into my life all well. for my future card i got the five of cups with a spider web jasper. i got immediate anxiety, what may happen in my future to relate to this card and with this crystal? i felt very anxious and the only way to get answers was to do another reading and ask the cards further.
Tumblr media
(second photo) i decided the best spread is one of my original spreads called the twelve month spread. the title is exactly what it is and if anyone wants to replicate it please feel free i will attach a diagram at the end. this photo however is also essentially a diagram. this spread was perfect since it could tell me exactly which months to look out for. sometimes i forget that the cards are there to answer my questions.
Tumblr media
(third photo) i was hard at work figuring out how the crystals corresponded with the cards and writing down my reaction to each card (a habit i recommend to anyone who practices tarot). this helped me immensely when the time came to meditate on this issue. i could go back and think of each card and why i felt this way and why i took that meaning from the card.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
(fourth & fifth photo) the result including which cards and crystals i pulled and my interpretation of them with the question: why will i grieve this year? (though i was mostly just thinking why did i pull that future card?)
a few points i want to just touch on in this reading, some which scared me and some set my mind to ease: the spider web jasper showed up again, as did a few other jaspers. i got the tower card, but i also got the star card which balances out the tower card directly. i came to the conclusion that i needed to protect my emotions and be aware of things in my life that could change and hurt me.
i started getting toxically worried about the tower card which landed in march, meaning that i was worried about what would happen in march. i called my mom and had a talk with her and she reminded me about how the cards don’t work that way. firstly, there are NO inherently “negative” or “positive” cards. for example: in this reading i pulled the devil card. everyone i have EVER read with gets so defeat when they see this card, but i always try to tell them that it may not be so. in my case, this card was good. and the black obsidian on it helped me hone the meaning even more and i came to the realization that june will be a good month, just watch out for temptation and wants.
i let fear get in my way and didn’t allow the cards to guide me to my deeper self. i think this is easy for us when we get a harder or deeper reading that we may not understand fully. but i encourage you to not be like me, don’t close your mind to the card that scared you. instead, meditate with that card and try to figure it out. the cards are not giving us cut and dry answers. nothing is going to happen to me in march. the cards are guiding us to our own answers, and i should possibly be more aware of my surroundings internally, and strengthen my emotions which is something i have known about myself for a long time, but have not faced. maybe march is the time in which i will be tested to strengthen my emotions.
the deck i used is called the radiant tarot and it is by an artist from new mexico.
(photos six, seven, and eight) these are the diagram to my 12 month spread.

❄️ i hope everyone had a great solstice and a lovely yule ❄️
something i like to do for the winter solstice is to stay up all night celebrating until the sun comes up. some ways to celebrate: have a fire and throw intentions into it, burn some winter herbs, read cards (tarot or oracle), and celebrate light! during the solstices i always dance and reflect.
as for yule, of course you can always decorate and burn a yule log which is so much fun, meditate, exchange nature gifts, celebrate light and fire!

I love it when the seasons change. Each shift of warmer to cooler months feels like a fresh start, and the seasonal magic is really where it’s at. In the summer I like to focus on cleansing, doing things outside and lots of gatherings. But in the winter things change to a more personal perspective and I want to work on inner growth and spending time with myself.
I’ve put together a list to give witches some ideas on what they can do this winter. Feel free to add to it in the comments and write your own take on things. Happy winter witches!
1 Winter spell jar - Sometimes I like to create a fresh spell jar for the season. I view this jar as me, my psychic energy, and I place it in things I want to cultivate during the season. Maybe it’s an image of the High Prestress from tarot, because I want to learn to connect more to my higher self. Or maybe it’s a rose quartz because I need to work on self-love. Place it in whatever feels right for you and leave it out to remind yourself of where you’re going this season.
2 Melt away the stress snow spell - Collect snow from outside and bring it in. Pace it in the center of a circle of white candles. Say your intention over the snow and let it melt away whatever you were stressing over. Modify this spell in any way you want as a release spell.
3 Collect snow for other spells - Snow melts. But you can use it otherwise in place of water during the winter. You can use it to cleanse crystals or wash ritual items. If you’re feeling very witchy you can collect snow from graveyards. Just be mindful of ‘who’ you’re collecting the snow from if it’s from the tops of graves.
4 Cinnamon ornaments - Make cinnamon ornaments with cookie cutters, glue and powdered cinnamon. Mix together and make a dough, cut out with cookie cutters and tie up with string. Not only does cinnamon smell good, it brings in prosperity energy.
5 Winter wish fire spell - If you have a fire going, use it to write a wish on a bay leaf and toss it in the fire.
6 Winter graveyard walk - Nothing is prettier than an old graveyard covered in snow. Walk around and take it in. Leave pennies as offerings to anything guarding the cemetery.
7 Winter offering - Don’t forget your ancestors this winter. Leave them out their favorite holiday treats, drinks, or light candles in memory of them.
8 Yule ornaments - Collect pine cones, sticks, or berries from outside and make yule ornaments to hang on your Christmas tree.
9 Pine cone candle holders - Pine cones also make great candle holders. Cut them in half and hollow out a space for a candle on the inside. Perfect if you want to add a little winter decor to your magical working space.
10 Charm your soup for a winter healing spell - The winter blues is real, and this spell helps with feeling blah during the cold months. Make a soup (any soup, really) and say your intention over it. Mix your spoon clockwise and imagine a white light mixing into your soup, while you eat it imagine it going into your body and warming you up from the inside.
11 Herb jar candles - Evergreen is a nice winter herb to burn and looks great in candles. Make your own jar candles with melted wax and jars you might already have. Add evergreen herbs and even white quartz crystals to the tops of your candles.
12 Lavender sachets - If you’re having trouble sleeping, make a lavender sachet. Use purple felt and sew up three sides. Flip inside out and fill with lavender herb. Sew up the remaining side.
13 Bird feeders - Love making these during the winter. Only because I feel like birds need a break too and there’s less food for them during the winter months. Take a toilet paper roll and smear peanut butter on them, then roll them in bird seed. (Kind of preschool project, I know.) Hang them outside on your trees.
14 Read read read! - Since most people are spending more time inside during the winter, it’s the perfect time to catch up on any witchy reading. Try your local library and see what they have on witch books, cook books and more.
15 Orange slices - Make orange slices for citrus cleansing baths by slicing fresh oranges very thin and baking them on low 175 degrees for 3-4 hours or until they are dry. String them along for a garland for another variety.
16 Winter blessing - Do a winter blessing spell for you and your loved ones.
17 Baked breads and cakes - Lavender bread is my favorite but make sure you purchase edible lavender herb first. Try cinnamon cakes or anise for a winter theme. Look up the meanings of the herbal properties before adding them into your dough.
18 Tea leaf reading - The colder months are a great time to brush up on your tea-leaf reading. You’ll need loose tea leaves and a keen eye to pick out the shapes in the cup.
19 Tarot meditation - Brush up on your tarot by doing tarot meditations. Choose a tarot card that you would like to connect with more closely. Light a candle and place the card in front of you. Close your eyes and meditate with the card taking in any messages, feelings or visuals you receive.
20 Write your grimoire - Get creative and start your own grimoire with your favorite spells and rituals.

—spider wort—
i removed some spider wort from my garden bed, it spreads like crazy, and brought some home to dry!
some things to note: typically when there is “wort” at the end of a plant name, you can count on it having magical and medicinal properties.
they are also extremely easy to propagate!
with this plant, its magical properties include:
🌿abundance spell— carry dried flower in your wallet
🌿banish negativity & attract love— spread flowers around your house
🌿relaxation & inner beauty spell— take a bath and float a handful of the flowers in the water
medicinally, its properties include:
🌿insect bites & scrapes— the sap can be used as a medicinal salve, the leaves can also be used for insect bites if mashed into a juicy substance and applied as a poultice
🌿 food— its important to credit the Cherokees for parboiling the young leaves and the small shoots, and eating the flowers raw, cooking the stems
🌿 expelling poisons— attributed to tannin constituents, the leaves hold drying properties
🌿 in tea-form— again attributed to the Cherokees, leaf extractions as tea used for non specified stomach, kidney, as well as “female” ailments

🌱 hi 🌱
i would like to share some home made items i use to hang around my altar. hand made art is really powerful in a space, and especially noting who the art is by/ from. these two pieces are made by me, but i also have had in past homes poems written by family, paintings by friends, even a daisy chain made by a child. surrounding your sacred space with white light.
the top piece is a recycled cardboard with watercolor crystals, and the bottom piece is a hand made dream catcher decorated with memories from people i love (i did my best).

💛altar appreciation💛
while my altar has a long way to go until i can say it’s perfect, it definitely is a space that will forever reflect me “in this moment". altars are amazing in that way, and while i do want mine to be different in small nuanced ways, i think i am understanding more that our altars grow & change with us. i think they reflect our lives quite well actually.
i have kept an altar everywhere i’ve lived since i was about fifteen maybe. amazingly, even in a college dorm. so i notice now looking back, two things: one, our altars reflect a lot about ourselves, including strengths & insecurities. i never used to worry about what my altar looked like. now, i’m wondering if i should invest in different god/goddess representations. what does that say about me now vs. then? two: our altars shift according to what is important to us at that stage in our lives. my realization of this comes from the fact that my altar at this phase of my life includes a rosary that my partner gave me, a small cross that belongs to my partner, and a jesus photo that belonged to my grandmother. my past self would have never had any of these religious items on my altar, but as a grown version of myself, having bits of spirituality from people i love adds way more magic to my space. i am able to remove “christianity” as a negative, or even altogether, and see these objects as spiritual vectors instead. that’s proof of magic in and of itself.
now, i’d love to give a quick tour! 🌼 my altar sits on top of an antique cabinet that stores all my other magic stuff like books, spices, incense, etc. maybe at some point i’ll post a tour of the inside. next i have a stack of cards. i’ll also show my cards in a future post. you can see the incense burner, and some scattered crystals. lapis lazuli, labradorite, opal, rhyolite, red jasper, a dead sea salt ball, pyrite, a pendulum, a salt lamp, and a couple bags of crystals. there’s some candles in candle holders, and the two cat candle holders i use to burn herbs. lastly, there are two goddess candles in the center, ave maria, and mother theresa. in the center is my god representation, buddha.
let me know what you think of this, do you agree? is your altar indicative of your growth?

tb to this black mirror ritual a few years ago lead by an eclectic wiccan i used to know, i remember feeling detoxified after this ritual, like everything i was holding angry inside me was loosening.
my partner and i still have a black mirror to this day, we keep it covered up of course. i want to use it again on our own sometime soon. i’m open to advice if anyone has experience using one!

Transitions between the Wheel (For the four seasons)
This is from my personal practice with observing the wheel of the year and my focus on each transition between the sabbats. I honor the current seasons in between. Each transition has it’s importance to self care and managing the home and garden. I will probably add to this later cause some paragraphs I wrote I feel like are a bit vague. Some of these transitions are not meant to be 100% literal and static but I feel like they are good areas to focus on for that moment in the year.
Yule->Imbolc Resting
During the thick of winter when it’s too cold to do anything and always dark, it’s the perfect moment in the year to rest. The focus is on relaxing, taking extra time to sleep and care for the body especially to not get sick. Winter is also ‘spa’ season because the air is so dry and harsh it’s a good time to soak in hot baths and scrub away dead skin and moisturize with protective lotion. Do not try to make new plans, yet sit home, rest and reflect.
Imbolc -> Ostara Cleansing
When winter thaws it’s a great time to clean the home and prepare for spring. Personally, I also like to do a body cleanse since I tend to eat a lot of processed (yet delicious ;-;) foods all year round. This also makes up for all the heavy foods I’ve been eating since Summer (all the BBQs) to Winter comfort foods. As I clean the home and get rid of stuff that has accumulated over the year, I clean the body. Also the focus is on cleaning the home as well. Breathing in the same air, especially if its full of dust, is really unhealthy and it’s good as the days are getting a little warmer to open up the windows for a few minutes to allow in fresh air to circulate. This is also the time of year I throw out old furniture, accumulated things and rearrange furniture in the room as well.
Ostara -> Beltane Sowing
Spring is a great time to germinate sprouts along with other seeds and clean the backyard or garden to grow plants. If you like to compost it’s a time to start mixing in the vegetable/fruit/plant scraps with the soil. Spring is also a great time to sow bigger changes in life as well. Something about the warm new season brings an air of flirtatiousness and ‘socialness’ that makes it perfect for making new friends or finding a partner. (Probably because people can finally come out of hibernation). It’s also a fantastic time to work on your image and portfolio and apply for long term jobs that begin in the summer or fall. Spring is the season for new beginnings and putting long term plans into action.
Beltane -> Litha Growing
A tradition I like to do on Beltane is repotting of plants and gardening. Repotting plants is a tradition I try to focus on every year because it’s very easy for house plants to die due to dead soil. Plus it makes the inside of the house super vibrant and lively to have fresh new soil in pots. From this point to summer solstice is the point of growth. Growth in the garden but also growth of personal goals. May and June feel like hectic months where there are so many events and opportunities to advance your work or change your social scene, that if I am not personally progressing, I focus all of my attention on my growth.
Litha -> Lughnasadh Thriving
Its the heat of summer! It’s time to get out and feel the intense hot energy and use its power to focus on goals and networking! Where I am there’s usually an exciting event every week where it’s an opportunity to make more connections and meet more friends but also since its warm and nature is so vibrant it’s time to take some days to relax and get away to enjoy the heat and life of nature. Go to the beach, go hiking, swim in a lake, sleep under the stars. Be active since the efforts will pay off.
Lughnasadh -> Mabon Reaping
This is the time you earn what you’ve sowed both literally and metaphorically. If you have a garden its the time it will start giving back. If you are an active goer of a farmers market you will notice how beautifully abundant the stands are. If in Spring you’ve sent out tons of job applications, and in Summer got the job you’ve wanted and worked hard, then by now you should start seeing some results. If there are no results being seen it’s a time for reflection and re-strategizing. There is a second chance in this time to start again before the cold and the holiday season bulldozes through.
Mabon -> Samhain Harvesting/Gathering
This is the time to gather and harvest. Usually family tends to gather now since it’s the holiday season. There’s not much other than gathering to be done since family and holidays are bombarding you from all sides. Also there is an abundance of food. This is great to store for the next transition which is
Samhain -> Yule Preparation
This is the moment to prepare for winter. My warddrobe completely changes here, I take up knitting projects that were abandoned last Imbolc, and I store food and herbs for the winter to use. Also making preserves from things in the garden or hand knitting clothes make great presents for the winter holidays. This is also a time to prepare the garden for hibernation. Take in potted plants, harvest the last of the herbs and food (that are not potted). Make sure plants you do not want to die have a place to chill in the house.
