This week's current read is John Gapper's Ghost Shift. My first foray into asian novels. I'm enjoying it currently. I got this book from @bookcaseclub My very first book box. I did their mystery/suspense box. Bookfriends, I'm currently looking for a book box that's similar to Fairyloot and Owlcrate but with adult books than YA. Anyone have any recommendations? #currentlyreading #johngapper #ghostshift #thriller #mystery #bookworm #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #hardbound #hardback #asiannovels #china #eastasia #fiction

Vassa in the Night - ☆3.5 by Sarah Porter Finally got the chance to read October 2016's @Owlcrate book Vassa in the Night (theme: Once Upon a Dream). To be fair I got it late, maybe January 2017 as I don't live in the US. This story is a modern retelling of the Russian folklore Vasilisa the Beautiful. We seem to get a lot of retellings these days. It's the first time I've actually kind of really paid attention to Russian stories. Someone said that this book was Alice in Wonderland on steriods. I couldn't agree more! It was so strange with enough gore to make me want to stop reading. But i powered on because I spent much to get this book. I wasn't disappointed because I enjoyed reading the last quarter of the book. There were lessons to be learned and things coming together. Would I read another similar story? Not likely. I'll stick to one that's kind of less mind boggling. I realize that I prefer not too think too deeply. #book #books #bookstagram #bookph #bookstagramph #booklover #bookish #bookgram #bibliophile #fiction #reader #reading #reads #bookishfun #bookfun #bookreview #bibliophile #mysterybookbox #bookbox #owlcrate #ya #youngadult #sarahporter #vassainthenight #vasilisathebeautiful #russianfolktale #vassainthenight #owlcrateunboxing #owlcrateoctober #uberlate #tbrremoved

I love this book so much! I could not believe that I would fall in love with Tolkien's The Hobbit. I tried to read this when I was 12 and I could not understand anything. I'm so glad I tried to read it again. Did you have a similar experience with this or maybe a different book? I'm curious to know! #bookstagram #books #book #bookish #booklover #bibliophile #bookworm #fantasy #adventure #bilbobaggins #thereandbackagain #thehobbit #jrrtolkien #tolkien #awesomereads #reads #reading #reader

One Bark And Stormy Prom Night (3)
By: Stella St. Claire
SERIES: Happy Tail Dog Walking Mystery
Genre: Mystery
Official Summary
Proms, pups and deadly rumors… In the wake of her relationship’s break, Olivia is beginning to fear that she might grow old with only Goodwin and a pack of dogs by her side. But even the unconditional love of puppies can’t shield Olivia from the single most important event in Lexingburg's social calendar: Prom. The roses, romance, and ridiculously priced restaurants seem to be rubbing salt in Olivia’s romantic wounds–reminding her at every turn that Andrew is leaving her. While trying to shut the door on the mess of her relationship, Olivia accidentally opens the door to a murder investigation. Olivia’s friend, and the owner of a boutique dog food brand has been killed at her warehouse—bludgeoned with a side of beef. Olivia tries to run off her emotions but only stumbles upon the main murder suspect acting suspicious. She sees this as a sign. If she can’t solve her romantic problems she can solve the murder of her good friend. Now, Olivia finds herself in an ever more tangled web of lies, secrets, and jealousy both recent and decades old. Who knew that dog food could cause as much drama as a high school dance? But the further Olivia wades into the crime the more she realizes that Prom isn’t just the main event of the season—it’s motivation for murder.

Reading this book felt like watching a really simple old school TV show. I did enjoy the characters in this story. The story is somehow interesting but it felt very simple and how the whodunit was solved was not very believable. There is not much forensics involved as it was more of, she heard, I heard, and then the murderer outs him/herself. However if you want a quick sorta fun read in between heavy books, I could definitely recommend this. I do want to say though that despite it feeling too simple, I do want to read the first two books of this series.

I am so happy I found this book. I’ve wanted to read mysteries set in old Europe and this came just in time. This book follows Ian Hamilton who is a detective inspector in Edinburgh. We get a glimpse of his private life alongside figuring out who the perpetrator is. It’s not that difficult to determine who did it but it did not really deter from the enjoyment of this book. Sometimes though, it feels that Ian’s character doesn’t fit but I still enjoyed the book nevertheless. We get introduced to a host of interesting characters. I love almost all of that we meet and they are quite endearing. It’s a light quick read that is quite suspenseful and had me biting nails in the last few chapters. If you are looking to read light detective stories that also focuses on the individual characters, this book is highly recommended. I look forward to reading the rest of Ian Hamilton’s adventures. Amazing, amazing book! I love the simplicity of the story yet it is filled with fantastical things. He has woven a story about a little boy that would take your heart and make you fall in love with his innocence. The other characters are so lovable as well. I would recommend this book to parents who are looking for a good bedtime story for their kids. I would also recommend this book to the adult who wants to be a child again and enjoy the wondrous world that Neil Gaiman has created.

”Fluff is a titan.. which is what wizards call something very powerful and dangerous when they don’t know what it really is.”
I was so blown away by this book! I have long been searching for that elusive story that would make me feel so amazed and engrossed as I did when I read the Percy Jackson series and lo and behold I came across this story!
This is a perfect book for middle graders and bedtime stories as children get to travel to a fantastical land with unique creatures. It’s like Hitchhikers Guide to to the Galaxy meets Harry Potter. Children learn new things that are quite accurate and they learn moral principles as the main character experiences each new adventure that he finds himself in.
Adults will enjoy this book as well for the humor and world building. They get to experience being a child again as they experience through the eyes of SImon what it was like being thirteen and young and unsullied by reality.
If you are a fan of Rick Riordan or JK Rowling, you should definitely read this book and be surprised at another world to discover!
I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!

This was a great mystery and thriller book. However, I would have enjoyed this more if I haven’t read this kind of plot twist in the past. As it happens, my favorite book has the exact same concept. I could not help but compare and I felt like my favorite book was written better than this.
I was kind of spoiled though because the friend who recommended this book did so at a time when we were discussing my favorite book so going in, it was already on my mind so it didn’t come as a complete surprise.
If you come in to this book completely without any hints, you will definitely enjoy.
