At its root, Destiel is a reactive projection.
Spot on! Bravo, OP, you’ve hit the nail on the head! (That’s what I’ve been saying all along too!)
Anti-destiel Wank (sorry but I have to)
If you hardcore ship Destiel, please just scroll on by. Please.
Ok, I’m gonna get myself in trouble, I’m sure, but I gotta get this off my chest…

JC stans and Xicheng shippers wanting them to adopt Jingyi when the reality is more like this -
JC: we’re adopting a child
LJY: that’s a terrible idea, you’re a shit parent
LXC: we’ll bring it up together, Jingyi, it’ll be good! We’ve been great uncles.
LJY: really? Have you? Have you really? Think about it.
JC: anyway, it’s you, sign here.
LJY: oh, you think you can just bully me into this? Hanguang-Jun, Wei-Qianbei! Sizhui! The crazy purple grape is trying to kidnap me! And Lan Zongzhu is helping him!
Wangxian: stay away from our son-in-law!
LSZ: yeah!
LJY: yeah! Wait…what?! *blushes*

Bleach is a shounen manga and the protagonist nearly always gets with the person who loves them, eventually going from indifferent or friendly to more passionate and romantic.
And the truth is, while Ichigo is the protagonist, Rukia is also the deuteragonist! Both of them continue to appear first on promo material because their meeting starts our story, and both of them end up with people who have loved them through thick and thin.
Ichiruki have a super special bond, but that’s part of the story too - their meeting was orchestrated but the villain didn’t expect them to help each other grow and effectively create a group of friends that would fight to protect them.
I get the frustration people feel with some aspects of the ending, but I genuinely don’t believe that, even with more time to work on the ending, there was ever any intention in Kubo’s writing to indicate romance on Ichiruki’s part.
Not only does he state this himself but it doesn’t follow shounen protocol (go ahead and disagree, obviously I haven’t read all of shounen but Naruto is a good example of how romance works in shounen too).

Some Ichiruki shippers are great. They really believe in their bond and choose to interpret it romantically, which can fit with the story, that’s cool.
But some are just adorable. So optimistic and hopeful every time they see new art featuring these even though they are the main characters and would obviously be heavily featured.
No really, it takes a special kind of person to ignore the:
Canon marriages
Canon children
Of the canon endgame couples
I mean, bravo! I applaud your bravery and love for the ‘ending that everyone really wished for’ in the face of the actual, canon ending.
(We don’t need quotes because ya know, we won.)
So many years later and hell yeah, I’m not over it!
I’m usually just happy and actually do commiserate with people who believed so hard and it didn’t work out (and honestly, some of the art out there is really awesome!) but then I see someone badmouth the characters or talk about Ichihime and Renruki divorcing and I’m like, “there are children involved, so not something I would advocate” and then I like being petty.
On my blog. Cause whatever, fairness.

@plan-d-to-i I’m not even going to bother with the ruse.
I don’t know want to talk, you abusive a-holes, come meet your maker at the edge of my blade (pov: I’m a Lan or Wen in disguise, you tell me who).
No thoughts mind full of the Season 3 audiobook extra "Eating Watermelon". It's New Year and little Wei Ying is on the street alone. A bun seller notices him and hears his stomach growling so he offers him a bun. We know that WWX usually just picks scraps so as not to bother people for food. Although Wei Ying tries to say he is not hungry his stomach is growling very loudly. Just as he's about to accept it the bun seller's wife starts yelling at her husband for wasting food on a beggar. Little Wei Ying politley rejects the bun so as to not cause conflict between them.
He's walking around out of strength, starving and he finally gets offered a half eaten bun from a kindly couple. He’s eating it thinking of his parents when suddenly he gets viciously attacked by a dog. He’s screaming for help - the sounds of the dog biting and mauling him and his terrified cries are chilling in the audio drama - finally the shitty dog owner comes to pull his shitty dog off of little Wei Ying and says:
“Good thing it was just a little beggar. If the one bitten was someone’s kid and the parents came back to make trouble, what would you want me to do?”
_:(´ཀ`」 ∠):_
This child didn't even want to take a bun to not cause strife between a husband and wife and then had to endure Yu Ziyuan blaming him for all the delusional shit she thought was wrong in her life bc she was a rancid viper. Her, that bun seller's wife and the dog dude-I just want to talk🔪👄🔪

At least JGY got what he wanted for a little while and so did XY. And both were talented in their own ways, no doubt.
And then there’s JC - a coward with no backbone, a sect heir who was nothing special until he got WWX’s core - he rebuilt his clan but it’s a poor imitation of the original, the boy he helped raise gets most of his bad traits from him (thankfully between WWX, the little Lans and his kind mother and honourable father’s genes, JL has hope), he betrayed the people who kept him alive - in short, a disappointment.
You’re right - the only king he is, is a trash king - scream-y, stab-y and somewhat nice looking in purple (some other stan mentioned his waist being good enough to stan and may I remind them *cough* 5th place on the eligible bachelor’s list *cough* despite being sect heir *cough*).
I got into mdzs through the donghua and at first I was like "the baby grape's life is so sad 🥺" but then I see him do nothing but yell and scream and keep getting in wwx's way and I got really annoyed. Like dude if you loathe conflict so much then why don't you take a page out of your sister's book and cook soup instead of berating the guy who is actually doing something. He and yzy don't want to make any efforts but scream like a banshee when things don't go the way they want. Whenever I see his stans say "oh but he was manipulated/didn't had a choice!" I feel like eye rolling my eyes out of the eye socket. Is he some damsel in distress that couldn't do anything? Hell even mianmian who once was a damsel in distress, had the guts to stand up for someone who helped her and when those trash sect leaders talked shit about her, she left like a self respecting person unlike jc who keeps licking their feet. SoCIAl hE1rArcHy? more like cowardice lol
Late replies~ (I'm sorry so sorry lol it has been very very busy in life)!
But I agree with a lot of what you write here, a lot of MXTX villains hold the same theme of very much having the free will (despite varying degrees of harshness within life) to do better, kinder, choose love over resentment/power/jealousy etc, yet at every turn not taking that choice. They choose to relish within that hate.
In MDZS when it comes to the likes of Madam Yu, Jiang Cheng, Jin Guangyao, and Xue Yang, they each have in common using their lack of happiness in their life to act like they never really had a choice when they chose their extremes. They place the blame on others,
Madam Yu places her lack of finding love not on herself because she is cruel and abrasive, but on Jiang Fengmian for not liking her as she is, he needs to change himself. Jiang Cheng uses the guilt he thinks Wei Wuxian should feel for saving others that were not the Jiangs as a vice grip promise that Wei Wuxian has chosen his loyalty wrong and betrayed him constantly, Wei Wuxian can not do right by the standards of Jiang Cheng much like what his mother used to do to him. Jin Guangyao uses the fact that his low status meant he had no choice but to choose cruelty to protect himself, even long after his own father was gone and dug his hole of violence even deeper than it was ever needed. Xue Yang blames the world for what he is and refuses to say he himself had any part of the cruelty he set on others for despising the way people judged him however rightly.
Jiang Cheng does not hate conflict, he actively creates it several times when it comes to Wei Wuxian, he simply uses that as the excuse that Wei Wuxian makes problems for him as the inverse of what Madam Yu tried to stir up with herself, Jiang Fengmian, and Cangse Sanren. The rumors of them conveniently mirror Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji later in life. And Jiang Cheng actively fueled the rumors against Wei Wuxian when he simply could have stood with Mianmian and Lan Wangji before everything spiraled. He chose his own jealousy first out of spite even when the tools not to were in front of him.

I read a Xicheng stan’s tweet complaining about how people say that Xicheng had no canon material because they barely interact but it’s actually impossible since they’re both sect leaders and hence this pairing is definitely possible.
I raise you this: LXC and JC do meet often and interact a decent amount but despite that none of the other three sect leaders want to actually have ties to JC because they find him insufferable. That seems to be what canon indicates.

i'm really loving the jc meta holding him accountable for betraying his debt to the wens! however i do think wwx contributed in one way to jc's problems with protecting the wens: wwx never really treats jc like his sect leader and doesn't show him much respect, even in public. this flaw in their relationship made jc look weaker and more easy to manipulate, and is why he felt so pressured to deal with wwx. thoughts?
i don't disagree! but to me wei wuxian's lack of reverence or respect for jiang cheng (who is very insecure and demands both) is not a flaw in their relationship as much as it is a... natural consequence of jiang cheng's inability to surpass wei wuxian or offer valuable leadership while wei wuxian was already carrying himself like the grand necromancing master of the cultivation world at age seventeen. the only way in which jiang cheng is superior to wei wuxian is social rank, but wei wuxian is too apathetic to social norms and etiquette to care whose name is on the sect gates, so he has little reason to treat jiang cheng like his leader.
wei wuxian's attitude towards jiang cheng very likely did contribute to jiang cheng's frustration and lack of authority as a political figure, but it is also exactly the level of disrespect i'd show my idiot kid brother if he began to act like my superior even though i could pop his head like a zit.

A moment ago, Jiang Cheng was certain that this person was Wei Wuxian, and all of the blood in his body started to boil. Yet, now, Zidian was clearly telling him that he wasn’t. Zidian definitely wouldn’t deceive him or make a mistake, so he quickly calmed himself and thought,
This doesn’t mean anything. I should first find an excuse to take him back and use every possible method to get information out of him. It’s impossible for him to not confess anything or give himself away. I’ve done things like this in the past anyways

You like Jiang Cheng - cool, good for you.
You ship Xicheng - I mean I don’t see it but I also see why you’d pair them, good for you.
Jingyi is their adopted child - for the love of this child, why would you do this to him xD
Xicheng have pleasant to mundane interactions, but the only times LJY talks to JC is to insult or berate him.
That kid is the most WWX of all Lans and respects LWJ above everyone. Not to mention, he loves LSZ to bits - whose family JC canonically slaughtered.
See, it’s not like crack ships don’t exist but this seems to be becoming a trend and I...don’t get it? What did I miss here?
(On this note, I think LSZ x JL is totally possible and very cute, but again, once anyone knows about LSZ, or at least he does, how can he spend any amount of time near JC? Canonically, most characters with the exception of JL would only meet JC for conferences or the occasional night hunt, so it’s never been a problem, but I just wonder...)
