Went looking for #adventure today, and I’ll be damned if I didn’t find it😂 • Drove to a fishing lake in the area, where I stopped for a walk. After a while I discovered some blueberries, and decided to pick them into my water bottle. • Getting bored with that, I figured I’d try to reach a headland nearby. Only after like two minutes (and waaay before I reached the headland), I discovered a sandbank. Of course I had to test the water. • Finding the water unexpectedly warm, I decided to brave the cold breeze for a swim. And JUST as I’m about to dress down to my underwear, a bunch of fishers turned up at the other end of the lake, staring and pointing. • After half a second’s hesitation, I just went: FUCK ALL, I’M SWIMMING. • So I swam. And it was worth it. And the sheep DIDN’T eat my clothes. After a somewhat clumsy intro, «Wicked Saints» is proving to be a very entertaining read. • Nadya is one of the first Kalyazi clerics in decades. She has been chosen as a direct communicator not only with one god, but almost the entire pantheon. Through prayer, they grant her divine power in the war against the Tranavians; a nation of heretical blood mages. • Serefin is the Tranavian High Prince; blood mage and general of the Tranavian army, sent to investigate the possibility of Kalyazi magic. Allegedly, Tranavian blood mages killed all the previous Kalyazi clerics to harness their powers for their own magic. After an attack on the monastery where Nadya lives, Serefin attempts to chase down Nadya. But somehow, he loses track of her. • I miss a little more structured language, perhaps, and a better lineup of the world building. But I like the character gallery, and slavic story elements are always welcome in my library. POST BOOK DEPRESSION ALERT: • You’d think that after numreous years, twelve books and every adventure imaginable, the Skulduggery Pleasant series wouldn’t surprised you alltogether that much anymore. At least not enough to leave you breathless throughout an entirely (and very long) book. • Wrong. • First, the story didn’t end with The Dying of The Light. Having read the next three books, I can’t imgaine why I would think that the series ended there. It OBVIOUSLY doesn’t. There are som many questions left unanswered; so many stories left untold. And I’m so freakishly glad Mr. Landy didn’t stop at nine books, because book twelve is the best one yet. • Everything. Literally EVERYTHING happens in this book. And yet the writing is so tight you could stretch it like a rubberband and it would twang right back in your face and give you a black eye. • Hats off, Mr. Landy.
