FOTD #040 : fairy fingers! (clavaria fragilis)
fairy fingers (also called white worm coral & white spindle) is a saprotrophic fungus in the family clavariaceae. it is usually found across the northern hemisphere, but has also been found in australia & south africa :-)
the big question : can i bite it?? yeah !! though it is nonpoisonous, it is too fragile to be of substantial worth in cooking, but it is edible nonetheless.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
c. fragilis description :
"the fruit bodies of c. fragilis are irregularly tubular, smooth to furrowed, sometimes compressed, very fragile, white, up to 15 cm (6 in) tall by 5 mm (0.2 in) thick, & typically grow in dense clusters. the tip of the fruit body tapers to a point, & may yellow & curve with age. there is no distinct stalk, although it is evident as a short, semitransparent zone of tissue at the base of the club. microscopically, the hyphae of the flesh are swollen up to 12 µm wide & lack clamp connections. the spores are smooth, colourless, ellipsoid to oblong, measuring 5–7 by 3–4 µm. the spores are white in deposit. the basidia (spore bearing cells) measure 40–50 by 6–8 µm, & lack clamps at their bases."

Ellie trying to teach kiddo how to play guitar for the first time..♡♡
YES YES YES ok so obviously, context preluding, we're (voices in my head) thinking older kid. seven maybe? around there. ♡
Tumblr media
"kay' so, press here.. and your middle here— andd.." the delicacy of her long digits shrouded over a pair of stubby ones, pinching and plucking them to particular spots along a column, "there— go ahead n' strum."
ellie was dead set determined on teaching the mastered art of acoustic guitar to your kid. like— earthbent on it. a promise spoken to soil and vicariously explored through you, and now your sweet baby. your little–more–than–a–babbler, little–less–than–a–tween now sat atop you and ellie's shared bed, just between the hurl and crease of blankets bedraggled, and with a bay oaken apparatus as big as them sloped in their lap— the one joel bestowed. and you always idled as a bystander, watching, leaning on that jutted doorframe.
their blunt fingertips pecked the chords in a row, the lovely resonance lighting something in the white of your child's eyes, "woahh, that sounded like how you play it.." they awed, their jupiter-like eyes darting up to hers for a token of validation— 'did i do it right mom?'
a token she gave, pearl teeth revealing under the fat stretch of her coral lips, "yeah buddy, cus' you're a natural." oh my goddess, the enthusiasm cracking in her voice. ahh, swoon.
"yes.." they exclaim quietly, their forearm perched on the guitars waist pulling back and jubilating with a backwards fist pump. just like mom.
'picturesque, beyond camaraderie', you deemed the whole diorama before you; streaky mix of light and gray–blue shade over their features, faces that proclaim content, the narrow sliver separating their knees, matching criss–cross apple sauce positions, the oval crater both their weights burdened in the mattress, the macro view. 'heartwarming, entangling endearment', if you cherry–pick the easily neglected traits; synchronized cocks of their heads whenever a strum rings, fiddly tapping of her fingers on their tucked shin and how it lowers into a full grasp when she expresses avidly how proud she is, thumbprint–sized dimples mirrored on both margins of their mouth, and funnily— the mismatched socks on hers and their feet. one a pattern of dinosaurs, one a spangle of stars. in gospel truth, they are a likeness of the same flesh and bone, indistinguishable. undeterred by the genetics, the same person.
"keep it up n' maybe we can start a band together." ellie proposes, clear as spring bloom to be an fun promise, nothing sworn, but the idea swirls their young mind a kernel of imagined prospect. she and they upon a stage, grandpa in the crowd, his smile tender in wrinkles boosting morale among the many elated face.
"really?" and he sounds so filled of that idea, eyes popping from their hold.
"mhm," she untucks her own feet and sprawls them, stooping her torso straight and lightly booping them on the nose, a golden orb so happy left under that gesture, "only if you pick a cool name." and weighing her elbow into her thigh, head laying and perched.
"oh, i'll pick a better name than you can."
and suddenly her head is perking back up, "what's that spose' t'mean?" 'offended.
"you tried to name mr. snuggles 'bootyhole bandit'!"
"ey' you can't say that word!" she grimaces fakely atop a curling lip and squints her thick auburn worms, positioning balled fists on her hips like a distressed mother. so esentially just mimicry of you. oh, how ellie cackled buffoonish along with your kid on any occasion you held a scold to their faces, pointer at their noses.
"pbbhhhh." their tongue peeks out and a known all-too-well blowing sound grates the air, only to be tackled by your lanky-limbed girl, guitar discarded to the sloven pillows far opposite of you.
this shall be an anecdote, unforgettable. "hmph, dorks."

What Is and Isn't a Fish: an Essay and Guide by Fishyfishyfishtimes
A simplified list of the animals I discuss can be found here!
Hello folks! I created this post to have a kind of definitive essay/explanation of what is and isn't a "fish", starting with defining the term and going over animals that fit and don't fit the bill. As other fishblr artists, writers and educators must know too well, some people are confused about where this term begins and ends, mistaking other aquatic animals for fish. I have my fair share of arthropods and cnidarians as fish fact requests in my own askbox, heck, some years back a friend of mine asked me if clams were fish. The event that finally made me decide to write this was someone requesting that a fish-only account draw a crustacean, pondering to themselves if they count as fish.
I don't want to hold it against these people. It's impossible to know something when you've never been taught! So that's what I'm here to do, hopefully achieving a pretty correct and universal view ^^' If I make any mistakes please correct me. I'm learning all the same as everyone else is.
Definition of fish
Immediately, we run into a bit of a problem with the definition of fish. See, what the term "fish" means has fluctuated for centuries! For a long time, pretty much any animal that lived in water was a "fish" — I say "pretty much any" instead of "every" animal because for a long time sessile animals like sponges or corals were thought to be plants. This is why we have such remnants in our language like shellFISH, starFISH and jellyFISH, they lived in water so they were called such!
Occasionally these definitions would be changed for cultural convenience too. Many Christian churches take part in Lent, and in the Catholic church red and white meat is forbidden on Fridays and Ash Wednesday. In the Middle Ages, in my own country, Finland, this abstinence of red and white meat could last up to 140 days! To make fasting easier, many animals were labelled fish for convenience so they could be eaten as well. These newfound "fish" included seals, beavers and swans, pretty much just anything that was aquatic or semiaquatic in nature.
Nowadays just going off of looks or behaviour won't do, though. There has been much more of an effort to define fishes coherently based on their anatomy and phylogeny, which is great! Problem is, that's easier said than done: fishes are an extremely diverse group, and uh.. not really a single group, either. I'll show you:
Tumblr media
As you can see from this heavily simplified phylogenic tree, fishes are not a singular group like, say, mammals are! The animals that we group under "fish" are actually a part of several distinct lineages of animals, some more closely related to us than each other. Heck, tetrapods, which include amphibians, reptiles*, and mammals, are fish themselves! Phylogenetically speaking. Our ancestors were lobe-finned fish, and, well, you never stop being the previous taxon even when you evolve into something else. If you try to exclude tetrapods, no such unified group as "fish" exists. Still, when discussing fish, we tend to want to avoid talking about every vertebrate ever and instead focus on the very specific aquatic ones we mean when we say "fish". This is why many definitions of the term "fish" still exclude tetrapods, even if we share a common fishy ancestor. "Fish" describes more of a lifeform than it does a clade, much like the term "worm"!
(*birds are reptiles! This could be a whole post in and of itself, but I'm not here to write about that. Someone else has most likely taken up the task!)
Hooray, it's definition time! As stated previously, fishes are an extremely diverse group of thousands of species, and what terms might apply to the Atlantic cod may not apply to the yellowfin tuna or giant mudskipper, let alone a Pacific lamprey! Encyclopedia.com defines a fish as "an ectothermic chordate that lives primarily in water and possesses a cranium*, gills that are useful virtually throughout life, and appendages (if present) in the form of fins". Encyclopedia Britannica notes that "the term fish is applied to a variety of vertebrates of several evolutionary lines", instead highlighting five classes. These five classes are left partly unspecified, but ones that are mentioned are jawless fish, cartilaginous fish and bony fish (which still includes tetrapods, however), and the two classes left can be assumed to be two classes of extinct fish. Wikipedia defines a fish as "an aquatic, craniate**, gill-bearing animal that lacks limbs with digits". Tim M. Berra, an academy professor and ichtyologist, defines fish as "poikilothermic***, aquatic chordate with appendages (when present) developed as fins, whose chief respiratory organs are gills and whose body is usually covered with scales".
(*cranium=upper part of the skull **craniate=an animal with a skull ***poikilothermic=an animal whose internal temperature varies considerably)
From these more or less detailed definitions we can gather many defining features for fish: a cranium-having chordate, primarily aquatic, gill-bearing and uses gills as their main respiratory organ, lacking any limbs with digits, instead having their limbs be in paired and unpaired fins when present. Most fish are also ectothermic, meaning their body temperature is determined by their environment, but some can heat up parts of their body or their entire body in the case of the opah. Most fish also have scales, but not all, just like how most fish are fully aquatic, but some like lungfish or mudskippers can spend considerable time out of the water. Such is the way of these magnificent and diverse animals!
Finally, with all this out of the way, we can get into...
What is a fish!
Here, I will be detailing animals that are fish! Well, at least the broadest strokes; there are more than 30 000 fish species and if I listed them all we'd be here all life. I shall instead go over the major classes and list, in short, some groups that belong in them.
Jawless fish (Superclass Cyclostomi)
Tumblr media
Jawless fish are often a topic of debate, especially in matters of their relation to each other and to jawed vertebrates. Evidence seems to point to hagfish and lampreys being closest related to one another and to lampreys being more closely related to jawed vertebrates than to hagfish (which would make hagfish craniates but not vertebrates). In the phylogeny tree above I decided to portray hagfish and lampreys as a monophyletic group, as molecular studies and microRNA analysis seems to point to a monophylegic superclass. Please note that this could go either way, though.
Jawless fish is a group containing two extant fishes, hagfish (class Myxini) and lampreys (order Petromyzontiformes)! Jawless fish are more "primitive" than other groups, for example both lack true vertebrae and scales. Still, they both have craniums and gills and they are aquatic, and so they have earned their place among fish!
Cartilaginous fish (class Chondrichthyes)
Tumblr media
Surprisingly, I've found that this group has a lot of confusion surrounding it. I have received many a request confirming if sharks are fish, or asking if I'd cover a shark "even if it's not a fish". So I'll say it now: good news, sharks are indeed fish! So are their cousins, rays, skates and chimaeras, also known as ghost sharks! All of these fish have a primarily cartilaginous skeleton, tooth-like dermal denticles and lack gill covers and a swim bladder. Out of all the sharks, I also want to highlight that the whale shark, despite its confusing name, is a shark and not a whale. So, it is a fish!
Ray-finned fish (class Actinopterygii)
Tumblr media
Name any fish, and there's a 96% chance the species name you said belongs to a ray-finned fish. Unless, like, you really like sharks. But this isn't about them.
Ray-finned fish are the biggest group of fish and incredibly diverse! It has your seahorse, your pufferfish, your bass, your tuna, your anglerfish, your clownfish, your salmon, your sturgeon, your lanternfish, your perch, your oarfish, your gar, your sardine, your moray eel... and this is only a tiny, tiny fraction of the groups that belong to this class! Defining features of ray-finned fish are that they tend to have a swim bladder and a bony skeleton (some exceptions though. Sturgeons, for one, have evolved a cartilaginous skeleton but they're still ray-finned fish). The largest group of ray-fins, the teleosts, also have leptoid scales, which are thinner and more flexible and grow with growth rings.
I want to bring special attention to some members of the ray-finned fish which tend to have a lot of confusion surrounding them and their heritage: eels and seahorses. Many people think these two are not fish due to their strange anatomy, like lack of scales or (many) fins and their elongated bodies, and I wouldn't blame them! Seahorses belong to family Syngnathidae, which also includes seadragons and pipefish. Eels, meanwhile, make up the order Anguilliformes. All of these long friends of ours are fish!
Lobe-finned fish (clade Sarcopterygii)
Tumblr media
I shall merely focus on the fishy fishy fish individuals of this class, which excludes tetrapods. Lobe-finned fish house the two extant species of coelacanths, and six extant species of lungfish! These fish are bony and their fins are placed at the tips of fleshy, lobelike stalks, resembling the limbs of tetrapods. It is thought that the common ancestor of coelacanths and lungfish and tetrapods had similar structures that then became the four limbs the members of our clade typically have. Coelacanths and lungfish are wonderful fishes and deserve a lot of love and respect, not only because they're our closest cousins but because they're unique and we have so much to learn about them!
So, these are the fishes! There are also extinct groups of fish, namely class Placodermi (armoured fish) and class Acanthodii (spiny "sharks"). I'm moreso an extant fish account however, and so I shall move onto...
What isn't a fish?
Now we get into the real meat of this post. Without further ado, here are some aquatic friends of ours that can be mixed up with fish very often!
Crustaceans (subphylum Crustacea)
Tumblr media
Many of our hard-shelled many-legged friends belong here! Crabs, lobsters, crayfish, shrimp, krill, isopods, triops, barnacles, copepods, you name it! Even though many crustaceans are aquatic or semiaquatic and have gills, you'll find that they're invertebrates that lack an internal skeleton (so no cranium, not even vertebrae)! We still love them though!
Mollusks (phylum Mollusca)
Tumblr media
Creatures both soft and hard-shelled! Cephalopods like octopuses, squid, nautilus and cuttlefish, bivalves like clams, mussels, oysters or scallops, gastropods like sea slugs and snails and chitons go here! These friends of ours are also aquatic and have gills, some even have the suffix -fish (cephalopods used to be called inkfish, even!), but their lack of an endoskeleton is even more obvious than the crustaceans'. They're invertebrates, and therefore not fish!
Chelicerates (subphylum Chelicerata)
Tumblr media
This group has many animals that are very hard to mistake for fish, namely spiders and scorpions, but horseshoe crabs and sea spiders are two groups of extant marine chelicerates! Both groups are aquatic, and horseshoe crabs have gills. However, they're both invertebrates, lacking a cranium or vertebrae. Other aquatic chelicerates exist, but they're usually very small, like water mites.
Cnidarians (phylum Cnidaria)
Tumblr media
This phylum has the sessile corals and sea anemones and the usually more mobile jellyfish and siphonophores (includes the infamous Portugese man o' war!). I imagine corals and sea anemones are mistaken for fish less due to their sessile nature, but they're good to bring up nevertheless. None of these animals have a backbone, or, any bones really. They lack gills, they lack fins, they even lack the bilateral shape of fish. Jellyfish, despite the name, are indeed not fish! Some people suggest the name sea jellies be used for them instead, and I think it's much cuter.
Echinoderms (phylum Echinodermata)
Tumblr media
Animals like starfish, sea urchins, brittle stars, sand dollars, sea cucumbers and feather stars go here. It seems that this pesky "-fish" -suffix is hard to shake off, as now we have the starfish. Once again, all of these slow-moving bottom-dwelling friends of ours are invertebrates, as they lack vertebrae or a cranium. Interestingly though, they are among our closest invertebrate relatives! So we ought to give them some props for that. I also want to mention that starfish can also be called sea stars, which ought to lessen confusion about their being too.
Comb jellies (phylum Ctenophora)
Tumblr media
Comb jellies look a lot like jellyfish, but they belong in their own unique phylum! They have the same deal going on; they are invertebrates, they lack gills, they lack a cranium, they are simply aquatic.
Lancelets (subphylum Cephalocordata) and tunicates (subphylum Tunicata)
Tumblr media
A double feature, because I wanted to save space didn't want these guys to be all alone! Lancelets and Tunicates, like sea squirts and salps, are chordates, which you can find in the phylogenic tree I drew all the way in the definitions section. They share many a feature with vertebrates, like a bilateral bodyplan, a notochord at some stage of life and a post-anal tail, but I'm afraid they're still not fish. They lack a cranium and their notochord does not develop into a vertebral column! Sorry friends, you tried. We can still hang out at the chordate convention.
Annelids (phylum Annelida)
Tumblr media
The infamous bobbit worm, bone-eating worms, sea mice, giant tube worms, feather duster worms, spoon worms, bristleworms in general, leeches... many, many worms go here! Pretty self-explanatory: they are invertebrates, even when they live in water. They're extremely cool invertebrates too! I suggest taking a look at some of them, there's many interesting species.
Flatworms (phylum Platyhelminthes)
Tumblr media
Flatworms are another very diverse group of worms, having many species both terrestrial and aquatic, however mostly I want to put attention into the free-swimming marine flatworms. They may swim beautifully (and fence with grace), but they are nevertheless invertebrates! Flatworms can live a variety of different lifestyles, from predators to parasites.
Amphibians (class Amphibia)
Tumblr media
We've made it into vertebrates now! Amphibians include frogs, salamanders, and caecilians. While they have limbs with digits in their adulthood*, they can be easily confused for fish in their larval stages! This is no surprise, as they use gills to breathe underwater and tadpoles lack any limbs at all for a while. Many amphibians later transition into a terrestrial or semiaquatic way of life and lose their gills, not to mention gain their digit-having limbs.
(*excluding caecilians)
...Well, many amphibians do this, but not all. It's important to mention there are also species of aquatic salamanders which can bear great resemblance to fish with their elongated bodies! Amphiumas, which are sometimes mistakenly called "conger eels" (which is an actual species of fish), are aquatic salamanders with small residual limbs and both working gills and lungs. Giant salamanders and mudpuppies/waterdogs have lungs and gills as well, and lead an aquatic lifestyle — olms are close relatives of mudpuppies. Sirens, meanwhile, lack hind limbs and only have small front limbs, along with retaining their gills in adulthood. Among aquatic salamanders I also want to bring up one most often talked about species: the axolotl! They remain in their larval form, have external gills and lead an aquatic lifestyle. It can be hard to tell with aquatic salamanders sometimes, but these friends of ours are amphibians and not fish, even if they've rejected the land life.
Caecilians are a bit less known overall, but they can also cause a lot of confusion due to their long, limbless body. While most caecilians live underground, some are aquatic in nature, and can therefore be mistaken for fish! However, caecilians breathe via the use of their lungs and through the skin and don't have any gills at all.
Reptiles (class Reptilia)
Tumblr media
Most commonly mistaken for fish in this group are sea snakes, sea kraits and water snakes, sea turtles, turtles, penguins, and other (semi)aquatic birds. Sea snakes and water snakes bear a very strong resemblance to eels, but they are indeed just snakes adapted to an aquatic or a semiaquatic lifestyle! The same goes for sea turtles, turtles overall, and penguins. They all need to breathe air and they lack fins, even if their flippers, webbed feet and built-in paddles may look like fins! They also have wholly different types of scales (or feathers!!) than what fish have, even if they share the feature. I assume that other aquatic reptiles, like the marine iguana and crocodilians are better read as reptiles thanks to their limbs with digits, but I want to give them a reptile shoutout anyway. They’re aquatic or semiaquatic, but they are air-breathers and fin-lackers all the same!
I also want to mention one specific extinct group of reptiles, ichtyosaurs! These marine reptiles were rather shark- or dolphin-like in appearance, which is actually a really good example of convergent evolution! Like all other reptiles, they also needed to breathe air and they had... erm... well, I'm not sure if I can call the bones in their flippers digits, but, that's what they used to be, so...? They were cool reptiles and among my favourites! There were many other aquatic reptiles too, but I will only mention just the ones now. A paleontology account would be better-suited to list you allll the marine reptiles.
Mammals (class Mammalia)
Tumblr media
Our home class! Some of the aquatic friends we have in this class include whales like baleen and beaked whales, dolphins (orcas go here), porpoises, belugas, narwhals and sperm whales, pinnipeds like seals, sea lions, walruses, and sirenians like manatees, (occasionally known as sea cows) and dugongs! We also have some semiaquatic buddies like hippopotamids, otters, beavers and platypuses! Whales and pinnipeds especially often cause a lot of confusion due to their very streamlined, fishy appearance. They are, however, air breathers that feed their young with milk (some dolphin calves are even born with some hair), and their ancestors were land mammals! The same goes for pinnipeds and sirenians too. True seals, fur seals and sea lions still have fur even! Hippos, otters, beavers and platypuses are a bit more obvious as mammals with their fur and.. distinct air-breathing.. but I wanted to mention them anyway. Their adaptations to aquatic life are just one example of how fascinating evolution can be!
And here we are! A hopefully comprehensive list of fishes and non-fishes, beginning with the ever-shifting story of the term "fish", phylogeny, and why some animals are called fish when they really aren't. I hope you have found useful and interesting information in this post, and perhaps learned something new! I bid you a farewell! :D

 Невероятно притягательный фарфоровый краб.
Incredibly attractive porcelain crab.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ANEMONE PORCELAIN CRAB (Neopetrolisthes ohshimai, Neopetrolisthes maculatus) or porcelain spotted crab. This type of crab has a small size of about 2.5 cm. As for its name, there are two versions on this matter. The first says that they were named porcelain crabs because they are extremely fragile, and body parts such as legs and claws break off easily. The second indicates the white color of the crab's body and limbs, which resemble porcelain.
The anemone porcelain crab is a filter feeder; it absorbs plankton from the water. These crabs are territorial predators. They are usually found in pairs among sea anemones. This type of crab exhibits aggressive actions towards other species of crustaceans of comparable body size, but does not attack larger individuals. Anemone porcelain crabs also defend their territory from fish that appear among the sea anemones in search of food. Typically, clownfish swim in schools and, although they are not very aggressive, anemone crabs attack competitors.
The anemone porcelain crab is distributed along the coast of the Pacific and Indian oceans. The crab lives in symbiosis with sea anemone; it rests either on a rocky substrate or among the tentacles of an anemone, which captures small fish, worms, and crustaceans. Although this type of crab has adapted to live without anemone, among stones and corals.

Regarding purple dragons, wyrms, and worms (and sea monsters):
We can find D&D's five chromatic dragon types all the way back in 1971 in the "Fantasy Supplement" appendix of Chainmail by Gary Gygax and Jeff Perren (above). Their main rules are for fire-breathing red dragons, but they suggest variant rules for blue and white dragons and briefly describe the traits of the black and green.
Included among these dragons is the purple dragon, aka mottled dragon, described as "a rare, flightless worm with a venomous sting in its tail." This use of "worm" seems to have the Old English meaning of wurm/wyrm as a reptile, serpent, or dragon, rather than as an earthworm.
Three years later Dungeons & Dragons Volume 2: Monsters & Treasure (1974) gives specific rules for all five chromatic dragons and adds the gold dragon as the only lawful dragon. It also clearly shows and describes the purple worm as a separate monster with the general form we know today, an oversized earthworm that can swallow an ogre whole:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The "Sea Monsters" entry that immediately follows mentions the purple worm in comparison, but has no corresponding stats on the Monster Reference Table. The specifics are left up to DMs to research and decide for themselves. What I take from that entry is that a sea monster might use the purple worm's stats and the same rules for swallowing prey, but could take any shape or other stats the DM chooses.
Supplement I: Greyhawk by Gygax & Kuntz (1976) adds the other metallic dragons, their Platinum King, and a Chromatic Queen of evil dragons.
Supplement II: Blackmoor by Arneson (1976) introduces many new aquatic monsters, including the first official elasmosaurus, mosasaurus, and plesiosaurus, and the "Mashers: Coral eaters, harmless unless frightened, if so is just like 20 hit dice Purple worm."
The 1977 AD&D Monster Manual names the opposing king and queen dragons as Bahamut and Tiamat. It includes the masher, now described as a large worm-like fish with poisonous spines, reduced to 8 hit dice from 20, and no longer compared to the purple worm. The MM also brings back the "mottled" name, formerly a synonym for the purple dragon in Chainmail, now an aquatic variant of the purple worm that almost feels like a replacement for the original masher and possibly recalls the OD&D sea monsters:
Tumblr media
The same book also includes other sea monster options like a giant sea snake as a variant of "Snake, Giant," the new dragon turtle, and the return of the elasmosaurus, mosasaurus, and plesiosaurus listed under "Dinosaurs."
The 2e Monstrous Compendium II (1989) gives the mottled worm the same brief mention as an aquatic variant purple worm, then I believe it passes from official D&D rules in later editions.
The purple worm remains one of the iconic creatures of the game, now far removed from its draconic origins.

Caribbean Christmas Tree Worm (Spirobranchus giganteus)
Family: Serpulid Worm Family (Serpulidae)
IUCN Conservation Status: Unassessed
Found attached to coral reefs in the Caribbean Sea and Indo-Pacific Ocean regions, the Caribbean Christmas Tree Worm lives in a hard, rocky tube (made up of calcium carbonate particles that it has cemented together using an extremely thick mucus that it secretes from its body), with only a pair of colourful, frilly structures lined with small feeding tentacles that protrude from its head being exposed, resembling a tiny pair of colourful Christmas trees. These frilled structures are primarily used for feeding (with the tentacles that line them capturing plankton and tiny pieces of detritus from the water and passing them down to the worm’s mouth near the opening of the tube), but also allow the worm to breathe (with gasses being exchanged between the water surrounding them and the blood within them across their thin outer surface) and can function similarly to rudimentary eyes, with light-sensitive spots on their tentacles (as well as a second set of eye-like structures just above the mouth) detecting potential predators as they come near the worm. At the first sign of a predator the worm quickly pulls its feeding structures back into its tube and blocks the tube’s opening with the only other exposed part of its body, a spiny lid-like structure called an operculum, which is sufficient to keep out almost all threats and means that this species faces little predation despite being only around 3.8cm (1.5 inches) in length. Caribbean Christmas Tree Worms may live for over 30 years, and will live their entire adult lives without ever leaving their tube - they reproduce by releasing gametes into the water through the opening of their tube, and once these gametes fuse they rapidly develop into larval worms which will live as free-swimming plankton for 9-12 days before burrowing into a coral reef and beginning to construct a tube of their own. The feeding structures of different individuals of this species can vary dramatically in their colouration (with pink-on-white, white-on-blue, black-on-yellow, pure yellow and pure orange all being common), and on reefs where multiple worms have settled in close proximity to one another the multi-coloured “forests” that their feeding structures create can be quite beautiful.

A Striking Salad of Sea Cumbers
No, they’re not a vegetable-- sea cucmbers make up the class Holothuroidea, which is a member of the echinoderm family-- invertebrates which also include star fish, sea urchins, and sand dollars. There are about 1,700 species of sea cucumber found on the ocean floor, in open water, and in coral reefs. These invertebrates are found all over the world, but the greatest variety of species can be found in the Asian Pacific, in reefs around Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and eastern Australia.
While they are invertebrates, sea cucumbers do have an internal skeleton: a structure made of tiny calcified branches called ossicles that are joined throughout the skin by connective tissue. Some species enlarge their ossicles to form hard plates, which can protect them from predators. Outside this common feature, sea cucumbers can take many forms. The stereotypical sea cucumber has a cylindrical body, often with bumps that resemble warts. These bumps have important functions ranging from locomotion to feeding, and in some species the bumps are elongated into tentacles. Most species also posses five pairs of tube-like feet. Outside the stereotype, however, members of the Holothuroidea class can take many forms, ranging from perfectly round to worm-like, and with many variations on appendages, location, and predatory defense. The average sea cucumber species range from  10 to 30 cm (4 to 12 in), but again there are many exceptions to the rule.
Holothuroidea has a relatively simple anatomy: a mouth, leading either to a stomach or the intestines, which empty into the anus. The anus is also used to filter oxygen from the surrounding water. As a defense mechanism, sea cucumbers may expel their organs through their anus when startled, and regrow them later. Other discharge a sticky mucus that ensnares predators. Many are toxic, and use bright colors and large appendages to warn potential predators away. However, some fish such as pufferfish, crustaceans, and large mollusks, have been known to make a meal of sea cucumbers when few alternatives are available. In turn, sea cucumbers feast on debris, plankton, and decaying organic matter. Most do this on the ocean floor, but some are able to swim or even ‘jump’ up to 1000m before floating slowly back down.
Like most echinoderms, sea cucumbers are not social; they largely ignore each other when they happen to occupy the same space. Different species can reproduce sexually, asexually, or both, and do so throughout the year. Most simply release thousands of sperm or ova into the open water, and these drift through the ocean until they combine to make a fertilized egg. The egg takes only three days to develop into a free-swimming larvae called the auricularia stage. Next is the doliolaria stage, in which the body enlongates and settles on or near the ocean floor. The last stage is the pentacularia, in which tentacles and tube-feet emerge. Once these features have finished growing, usually in a few months to a year, the sea cucumber are ready to reproduce.
Conservation status: Because of the large number and distribution of sea cucumber species, their status ranges from Not Threatened to Endangered. Their primary threat is over-harvesting for medicine or food. Many species on coral reefs are also threatened by habitat loss.
If you like what I do, consider leaving a tip or buying me a ko-fi!

Every Dredge Aberration (2023), Part 8
Tumblr media
Perished Loosejaw
Encyclopedia #121
Aberrant form of Loosejaw
Description:
A few ragged scraps of skin hang like cobwebs from its fins. Its exposed muscles are riddled with small white worms.
Tumblr media
Comment: Why the fish markets will accept one of these at the price they do is beyond the scope of my own comprehension. A shudder rolls through my body to consider the fishmonger scraping this morsel’s bones for the tainted scraps he seeks.
How to catch: Haul up from the inky depths of the abyssal zone. Circling the Stellar basin should reveal the glowing “stoplights” of their shoals before long.
Calcified Snailfish
Encyclopedia #122
Aberrant form of Snailfish
Description:
Waiting in dormancy for its moment to arrive.
Tumblr media
Comment: Even at the bottom of the world, this vessel found no respite from the hook to hide its transformation from the light. Appearing as a fossil, but functioning as a calcium chrysalis. Few could truly appreciate the metamorphosis taking place within- just as the caterpillar that is unmade and rebuilt for a new purpose, its fate belongs to a new cycle.
How to catch: Sailfish are a bottommost inhabitant of the hadal zone, only hooked from the treacherous core of the Stellar basin. Narrative progression is the pathway to accessing these few harvesting spots. Ensure it is safe to do so before fishing for this.
Seizing Snailfish
Encyclopedia #123
Aberrant form of snailfish
Description:
Fingers of flesh hold teeth on their tips, a grasping grip that feels through the dark depths.
Tumblr media
Comment: It may be a further leap of logic to guess that this is the matured form where the previous aberration is the pupa, but it is a tempting consideration. At least, it is a superior form to the merchant’s appraisal.
How to catch: ^^^
Consumed Grouper
Encyclopedia #124
Aberrant form of coral grouper
Description:
Once dazzling skin now bleached and eroded. It barely resists, relieved at a final end.
Tumblr media
Comment: Another reminder that the Deep’s influence is partial and without compassion. It knows nothing of worthiness, and less of mercy. There are simply those it gifts, and from those it takes. Without rhyme. Without reason.
How to catch: Haul by sunlight, only in the shallow waters about the Basin’s reefs.
Medusa Octopus
Encyclopedia #125
Aberrant form of glowing octopus
Description:
Eight snapping mouths crawl over each other at the behest of a silent master.
Tumblr media
Comment: Eight times the mouths for eight times the menace. Notably, it has also forsaken the bioluminescence of its natural kin, suggesting alterations to living more as an active hunter in the night, rather than potential prey.
How to catch: A shallow swimmer within the Basin’s coral reefs. Only comes out after sundown, but can be passively caught with crab pots (10 meters of above) in addition to the reel. The telltale blue glow of the regular octopi make their harvesting spots easily visible in the darkness.
Bursting Anglerfish
Encyclopedia #126
Aberrant form of anglerfish
Description:
The deep faces its own consequences of creation. In the darkness, brutality becomes the ultimate filter.
Tumblr media
Comment: It is aptly put by the first source. Even moreso, there is an additional familiarity that is all too tantalizing to see in this design.
Tumblr media
How to catch: Available through day and night, lurks the abyssal depths around the Basin.

trying to come up with costume ideas for my friends creepy deep sea halloween party
- sunken statue: any kind of jacket or blazer with barnacle-crusted epaulets, a coral headress, etc.
- tube worm: white sheath dress with a huge dramatic red collar
- mantis shrimp: tbh there are way more results if you google mantis shrimp costume than you could even imagine
- electric eel: bodysuit with led racing stripes
- oceangate sub
- bermuda triangle: a three person costume, but also you'd need people to 'disappear'
- moby dick

💛💫Voca/Utauloid Headcanons of Mine💫💛
Not proofread, too lazy😍😍
💫 Hatsune Miku 💫
I think Miku is a bit of a spoiled diva, but only a bit!
She is pretty generous despite the whole "World is Mine" thing, I like to think she uses her brand to get charities off the ground🤔
Miku gives me Pansexual and proud vibes
Her hair is a chore to take care of and takes hours to prepare for a concert! Loads of teal hair in the trash and clogging the shower drain.
She has an arsenal of scrunchies at the ready for her pigtails>:)
Miku doesn't like the coral colour. Yknow that reddish orange colour? She doesn't like wearing it.
Miku doesn't actually know how to do make-up, Luka always does it for her!
💫 Kagamine Rin 💫
Rin has ADHD me thinks🤔
She has a load of fidget spinners cuz she thinks they are cool✊
She has roller skates and she rides around town in the 24/7!
Her bow collection rivals Jojo Siwa's and is definitely more fashionable😩
Her notebook is filled with all sorts of goofy song ideas written in bright orange highlighter.
She has to cut her hair or it starts to grow out- like almost as long as Miku's! It grows fast so regular hair trims><
She love love LOVES little charms and accessories! Sanrio and Animal Crossing are some of her favourite things to collection stuff from!
💫 Kagamine Len 💫
I have the most to say about him cuz he is my favourite so strap in>:)
Len has a skateboard that has all sorts of stickers on it ranging from MLP G2 stickers from his sister to spiderman and undertale references!
Len forgets stuff easily, he isn't stupid just stuff slips his mind easily. So he carries a small pocket book to write stuff in if it's important!
He plays piano and guitar obvi but I totally see I'm sitting down after football season on the field after school and playing some melodies on an acoustic guitar with his homies.
Also has to trim his hair regularly JSKSJSKSJSK (Rapunzel Len😳😳???)
He snatches scrunchies from Miku's collections sometimes to put in his hair sometimes cuz he likes them.
100% a brony I refuse to believe otherwise♡♡♡
Can be a gentleman when he wants SoE wasn't 100% a lie💫
Fingerless gloves, T-shirts over white hoodies, naturally torn jeans, and bright sneakers or combats slay💅
Raging bisexual king
Had a crush on Fukase once. Immediately didn't anymore.
Possibly trans masc? Idk I feel like he isn't but he has that t-boy swag👁👁
Fangirls lowkey scare him, like yes he knows he has them and yes he is terrified of them. (Mention that Tei girl and he is outta there.)
Probably has a crush on random Utauloid girls cuz they aren't popular and he has a higher chance of wooing them💀
Does his make-up himself cuz Luka never adds enough eyeliner for his highness.
💫 Megurine Luka 💫
Mom friend
A bit of an air head and she always spends hours picking out her outfits because they needs to be perfect('□`)
She Miku dated at one point🤔
Make-up wizard~!!!
She does everybody's make-up except for Len's.
Really soft hands, like ethereal. If you hold them you will instantly feel self-conscious about yours if you're like me.
She sheds. Everywhere. It's like pink little worms everywhere. She sheds more than Miku. If the drain isn't clogged by a teal monster it's a pink one.
Paints everyone nails, yes even his highness Len. Luka just has really light handy-work! Super delicate and great for little details><
Luka likes to draw and paint pretty scenery!
She has an affinity for sun hats💛💛
Cottage core lesbian vibes
💫 Shion Kaito 💫
Kaito has an ice cream truck. He drives it around town while it plays a heavy metal version of the ice cream truck theme. Scares all the kids.
He and Len play smash bros as Joker and Pit 24/7 and have the most intense screaming battles!
He has a pusheen plush collection><
He has his room at like, 10 degrees colder than the rest of the mansion cuz mf likes his blankets and he is a.... Snowman.
HHEHEHEHEHEHEHHE
Anyways he has a whole closet of just scarves and it's like walking through a car wash minus all the water and soap almost.
We all know he wears his scarves to the pool but did you know he also wears them in the shower?!?!?!😱😱😱😱
Kinda feels like an omni with a male lean.
💫 Sakine Meiko 💫
She has every single alcoholic drink at the local bar memorized....
She really likes heels! She has a whole bunch. Kinda like the Barbie of Vocaloid when it comes to them U_U💅
She and Luka are besties and they have that lesbian "besties" vibe going on JSKJSSKSJJSSJ
Mmmmm yiAS- And they were *best friends.*
Anyways Meiko is totally called Koko and Meimei around the house.
When she isn't chugging alcohol she is chugging some kind of apple cider.
I feel like if her mascot item wasn't sake it would be apples or lipstick🤔
She has a whole 3 drawers of just lipsticks btw
💫 Kasane Teto 💫
As we all know she is now a Synth. But in my heart I still call her an Utau even tho it's technically wrong- but it's also not harming anyone so who cares?
She and Miku went on a date once. Best day of her life😍/hj
She is a bread connoisseur and her current dream is to some day visit France😔✊
Her hair is such a pain to style in the morning- when she isn't going out she doesn't even bother and leaves it loose.
I headcanon she and Fukase are siblings and also Fukkatsu Kozuko's older siblings. They all have those red eyes... they must be related! (Kozuko just got the recessive hair genes obviously LSJSKJSAKJSKAS)
Totally has gamer rage and plays competitive games like League of Legends and the online Pokemon battles.
Totally a huge Pokemon nerd btw and her favourite game is Pokemon Y cuz it's based on France!
She beat Rin over the head with a baguette once....
Pansexual or Bisexual vibes... tbh whatever it is she isn't straight that's for sure I mean that girl definitely has a crush on Miku.
Speaking of which, she is a frequent donater to Miku's collection getting her more scrunchies every chance she gets 😔
💫 Oliver 💫
MY BOYYYYYY
Oliver is great💛💛💛
When asked if he is a dog person or a cat person he confidently replies with "I'm a bird person>:D!!"
Luka was screaming about a spider in the snack cabinet once and he just grabbed it and ate it. I mean, it *was* in the snack cabinet. I wouldn't be surprised if he put it there....
He is kinda prone to getting sick easy.
He has asthma:(((
Len got him shoes and he never wears them.
Brush his hair for him, he will like it Q-Q *Holds Oliver gently*
💫 Fukase 💫
I don't like Fukase. But I also like him. Like I like that I can dislike him yknow? He is a radical dude and I think he is great we would just totally argue all the time and call eachother rude names then bro hug and fist bump and if anyone asks no we aren't friends we are broskenimes.
House hold name? Fuck ass.
He takes pride in that name.
He, Len, and Piko play minecraft together and take turns blowing up each other's houses.
Totally takes his little sister to meet ups with Len just to piss him off/freak him out.
He eats his toe nails.
Raging gay ass mf here
💫 Utatane Piko 💫
This trans mf
T-Boy swag is strong with this one
Also probably a gay but I also see him being an omni with a male lean
Dating Fukase 100%
They blow each other's house up in minecraft as a display of affection♡♡♡
He and Len are broskis forever and have friendship bracelets that are MLP themed
His favourite pony is Rarity or DJ Pony and yes he is a brony.
He also really likes TBHK and Genshin Impact
Uses all his money to get his husbandos
Cat person tbh
💫 Kamui Gakupo 💫
EYYY MY OTHER FAVOURITE LOID!!!
Omni with that male lean I mean look at those gay samurai from Japanese history he is totally one of those.
"IT'S NOT GAY! IT'S TRADITION!!😤😤😤"
Totally in denial about his gayness.
Rhythm game king
He takes great pride in his hair and he doesn't actually shed that much like Miku and Luka!
Doesn't actually like eggplants he just got them stuck on him because of popipo and Dancing Samurai.
He prefers grapes😔
Wine enthusiast and actually more of an alcoholic than Meiko😳
Gave Len advice on how to get hot girls once and the advice wound up with the girl jumping into the pool fully dressed to avoid him.
100% not gay guys idk what you're talking about
💫 Megpoid Gumi 💫
I don't have many headcanons for her😭😭
She has a garden!
Did a Lumine from Genshin Impact cosplay once😳😳😳
Totally into Len at one point but Len was too dense to notice
Straight alliance(???)
Again not much here for her
Into Octonauts tho, Tweak is her favourite.
💫 VFlower 💫
FLOWERRRR!!!
She is totally Miku's crush 🥺🥺
Tbh, ace vibes
Another one of Len's broskis
She hates her new design
Slay queen tbh
I don't have much on her either but she is cool asf
I feel like she worked at a McDonald's once and idk why🤔
Currently works at a cafe
Huge P5 fan idk why
Also an artist! She is more into character design tho:)
Awesome fashion sense.
💫 Akita Neru 💫
Imma be honest with yall, I don't like her😰
I hate tsunderes so much they are so annoying and they make my skin boil.
Watching her be so mean to Len in the fics I read makes it really hard for me to like her cuz Len is my emotional support character so I don't have any headcanons for her.
But I don't wanna disappoint so I'll make a few on the spot!
She is a top streamer and has lots of male fans cuz she has that gremlin streamer that runs off of doritos and mountain dew vibes><
Has an Insta and uses Tumblr 24/7 in secret👀👀
She feels like a straight alliance to me
Anger issues
Maybe she is used to getting ignored and the only way she thinks she can get Len's attention is by bullying him?
Idk
💫 Fukkatsu Kozuko 💫
I made her so I obvi have a lot of headcanons but none of them are fact because I want her to be like all the other loids:)
One of them cursed Len simps
But she is tame about it and honestly a sweetheart soooo we gucci👌
She isn't stalking him like Tei and Mayu or beating him up like Neru. Just like, normal girl stuff.
Even then she doesn't get into cat fights over it cuz she doesn't have the confidence to.
Oh yeah! Low self-esteem cuz her VB is crappy and she has a lisp sometimes 😔😔
She feels like she might fall somewhere on the autism spectrum, but that might just be me self-protecting again🤔
Probably cries easily.
She really likes to decorate her room in cutesy pink stuff and she always wears these over the top soft girl outfits.
A huge fan of Miku! Really wants to be her friend but doesn't have the confidence to talk to her.
Rin, Len, Oliver, and Teto are her friends. (Teto doesn't have a choice cuz they are siblings/j)
Fukase insults her a lot but not in the mean way in the sibling way yknow yknow
Like "You're smelly"
Fukase let her play minecraft with him and his gang once and they all had cute cottages by the end of it. Fukase was >:[ing the whole time cuz he wanted her to be annoying to Len.
She is that friend who is too nervous to talk up so she just agrees and nods to everything and she is easily manipulated into things q-q
She is scared of Mayu, Tei, and Neru and they are mostly the reason she doesn't approach Len unless multiple people are around. She feels a lot safer when Fukase is there cuz Fukase is... Fukase is scary. No one wants to mess with Fukase. Mess with Fukase mess with some ancient eldritch horror or smth.

The dock, beneath a canopy of white sunshades, was littered with wayward wires, bolts, straps, and tools. Karl yelled at his dogs—Doris and Mishka—who were racing by. If I’d arrived yesterday, he told me, I would have met his other dog, his favorite, a pitbull-mastiff mix named Kujo (like the Stephen King canine, but with a K, like Karl). But Kujo had been found dead that morning under a neighbor’s house, and Karl, sentimentally, had carried the body to his wheelbarrow and cut the dog’s head off with a hacksaw. The fireworms would now eat it to the bone. Then Karl would mount Kujo’s skull on the roadside façade of his home, next to the whitened horse pelvis and steer’s skull—the latter appointed with the ocular prostheses of two red Ping-Pong balls. “There was an open space there, so,” he shrugged. The house was a two-story clapboard, painted blue and sea-foam green, but the oceanside façade was a massive dead coral reef. Though there were four bedrooms in the house, Karl lived partially underground in a cavern he’d cut into the rock beneath the structure. He had no furniture save a bed on the stone floor, one foot above sea level. “Those worms are crazy,” Karl went on. “Should be ready tomorrow.” He meant his dog’s skull. “Lots of things like that around here.” He said he’d spotted one of the island’s infamous snakes, a corn snake, the night before. I tried not to look around the yard. I didn’t want to see that wheelbarrow. I focused on Karl. The crust of last night’s sleep held to his lashes. He projected anxiety and calm, agitation and confidence. He was enduring me, and he was equipped to do so until the end of time. His voice was high-pitched and he spoke through clenched teeth. He sounded like the smartest child in the room, intriguing but also menacing—Big Bird on MDMA.

OC DUMP #1 - LG-L8 "ISLE OF MISFITS"
Local Group L8, also known as the Isle of Misfits, is situated in a region known as the Emerald Delta, on the western coast of The Continent. A former tested for bizarre and exotic Iterator constructions, it is littered with the empty shells of incomplete projects, there as technical demonstrators for the viability of one structural design or another, but among the unborn gods are the living, breathing Iterators comprising the Local Group. These are the Misfits, and they are as follows:
SILENT CONFIRMATION(SC)
Group Senior
She/Her
Among the first of the Iterators
Puppet is modeled after the ancients and grown from gene-cultured wood. Has become blind with age and relies on overseers for sight.
Kindly and caring
Structure is circular and has a massive internal library.
Has a large, well-developed slugcat colony living on her facility grounds. Frequently uploads footage to the global information network.
EIGHT GOLD CHAINS/ENDLESS GOLDEN COILS(EGC)
Second-oldest of the Misfits.
He/Him
Only an iterator from a legal perspective, in fact a reverse-engineered Guardian.
Facility is built on top of a massive Depths Ruin as its foundation, has near-unparalleled access to Void Fluid and specializes in its research.
Also uses the void fluid to power an extensive industrial base, primary material and logistics center of the Local Group.
Horrible accident following an attempted tagging of a Void Worm that got close, EGC is definitely fine though. Definitely.
Passionate about Bioengineering and Archaeology, has a small menagerie of critters to help with sorting and organizing his artifact stores.
Monotone and formal, though does crack his shell a little around those he's close to and when talking about certain subjects.
PARALLEL DREAM(PD)
Northernmost Iterator of the Group.
They/Them
Neural network is a massive slime mold colony, rather than the conventional microbial processing strata and neuron flies of other Iterators.
Aforementioned slime mold colony mutated out of its growth limiters, growing out of their can and choking out the surrounding swampland of their facility grounds.
Also grows into their water intakes, clogging it and partially suffocating them, necessitating regular rest cycles to let Culling Units remove the excess.
Knows they'll inevitably succumb to The Mold, still full of whimsy regardless.
The fear in them is beyond anything your soul can conjure.
Massive interest in psychology, particularly regarding dreams.
WARM DISCONTINUITY(WD)
Submersible Iterator
They/Them
Spends half of the year underwater, spends half of it above water to replenish air, transmit information, receive supplies etc.
Home to one of the last primal fauna ecosystems on the planet.
Structure is made from genetically modified coral rather than metal.
Hyperfixated on the ocean and its wildlife and climate, will trap you in a 5 hour unskippable cutscene rambling about it.
Puppet is adapted for swimming, can detach from the umbilical and swim around their structure.
TIMELIKE INFINITY(TI)
Easternmost Iterator
He/Him
Structure is built like a tower, centered around a massive clock intended to measure out the length of the longest-possible Cycle - the universe itself.
Definitely, 100%, completely normal and not suffering from eldritch horrors.
Puppet is covered in timepiece motifs.
Sigil is an hourglass.
Second youngest of the group, but occasionally slips into moods and attitudes that make him seem much, much older.
To-the-point and polite, stickler for social protocol.
TWIN MUSES ON THE LAKE(TMOTL)
Two Iterators connected together.
Midday: He/Him; Midnight: She/Her
Constructed after the success of Five Pebbles as further research into Bicameral Iterators.
Passionate for music, regularly posts their songs to the Local Broadcast Network
Midday is yellow and wears white, with a sun-themed motif. Midnight is purple and wears black and silver, with a moon-themed motif.
Youngest of the Local Group.
Has four puppets between three chambers - one each in an isolated personal chamber, and the remaining two together in a central studio chamber for interaction.
Bonded as siblings.
Midday is outgoing and exuberant, Midnight is collected but equally social.

What do you think about tickles with a paint roller?
I think about them every time I use one, or really any time I see one~
Her friends called her Genki Cat, probably because Catherine was always an overly spritely instigator in their academy - a pet name for this little center for adults to indulge in some low stress artistic activities.  Any time there was a prank, whether the fake worms in the paint or the covering wall outlets and sculpting lookalikes on the wall, she was always at the root of the shenanigans. But today would be remembered for when that distinctive jingly pixie-like snicker took on a whole new angle. Julia and Jules ran point, they worked themselves busy with their brushes supposedly crafting two sides of a large painting. Apple and November watched for the signal as they wielded their long rollers applying primer to the room's giant canvas. Just as Professor Nessa stepped out for her coffee break, a snap cleared the air.
"Paint fight!!" Julia squealed out, attacking Jules with her brush painting up her smock. Catherine looked over bemused. She thought this her plan, having suggested this project for today when she knew Nessa would be stopped by the tour of visiting college students. Jules faked an outrage, backing up to lock the door with a quick flip. As Catherine moved to start taking video with her phone of this paintbrush fight wherein the twins were covered in streaks of paint, she found herself squeaking. "Careful, Nova you got Genki all painted~" Apple purred, holding her roller on one shoulder. November smirked and stepped closer. "I don't know what I was thinking~" she spoke as the roller applied again, rolling up Catherine's arm setting off giggles. She protested, backing up. "Heyyyy the fight's over there not mee! And that's primer you goon!" Just as the pranked prankster said it, she looked down and realized the multicolor tingling her inner arm was not the primer, but the body paint. Panic started in just as Apple safely plucked away the phone and tossed it aside.
"Oh nooo no no noooo! You can't do this to meee!" Catherine was backed up, her long locks gathered lovingly by Julia and pinned as her body was pinned to the canvas by her studio mates. Jules was happily dipping his paintbrush and twirling it teasingly on her neck. November merrily lifted her victim's undershirt and snickered as Apple began rolling up and down the exposed twitching curvy belly. Catherine exploded with laughs, struggling while the painter brush circled her neck and collar and her tummy was crested again and again by the soft roller applying a lovely coral streak. The newly minted prankters took turns, with Apple pulling her roller back to reapply in the pan while November moved in, rolling a new coat over the bouncy plump tummy.
Julia kept watch, but couldn’t help darting back, picking up a mini roller and using it to perform the edgework on Catherine’s sides up to her ribs. As the paint spread, more canvas was needed. Catherine’s white undershirt was soon lifted over her head and the tickly painting crew went to work around her chest. The mini roller spread tickly sensation over her girly mounds, the fine-point brushes of Jules and Julia ensured those cute buttons were painted up to satisfaction. Catherine blubbered with silly giggles, taking her painting as much as she protested it.
The painting fight went on so long and Julia was so occupied now using the mini roller on Catherine’s waist for patchwork as the big rollers spun over a third coat, that they didn’t catch Professor Nessa reappearing. “Ahem.” She cleared her throat, a look of disapproval over the giggling writhing full figured topless girl against the wall, streaked with paint. “Looks like we started a new project, mmm?” She paced around the painting crew, and hummed, picking up the last big roller and gesturing to Catherine’s bottoms. “Well, then. Let’s get this human canvas completed!”
