Chapter 3:
Davis’s pov:
Order and routine is key to a successful day. I wake up at 5:00 a.m., work out, shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, and am out the door by 7:15 a.m. Today, however, the routine is messed up. Holly and I got in an argument about who was going to take the kids to school, and after hours of complaining and nagging I gave in and agreed to take them. That’s how a lot of our arguments went, she would bitch and bitch until i had enough and just obliged.
I arrived at the school around 7:50ish and prepared for my first hour class. When the kids start funneling in, I go out and stand by the door greeting the students as they pass. Class is about to start so I crack my door for the last couple of student who decide to show up right at the bell and the late ones. When the bell rings I look up to start doing attendance and notice y/n isn’t here. I hear whispers from her friends Kameron, Emily, and Amelia.
“I’m worried about her, it’s only the second day.” Kameron whispers while texting on her phone.
“She’s just going through a lot Kameron.” Emily rebutted.
“Yeah I know, Kyrie stresses her out.” Kameron chuckles.
Eavesdropping on my students conversation about a fellow student wasn’t my brightest moment, but I could tell the four of them were close and I simply was just curious. I began to feel a hot, burning sensation flow down and through my body, so I took off my sweatshirt and tried to finish the attendance.
I decided to text y/n to check up on her, last night she was eager to come in for extra help and now she didn’t even show up.
“hey y/n, are you feeling alright? I noticed you weren’t in class today, I can email you the assignment if you’d like to do it before you return.”
I wasn’t sure if I should even be texting her at all, it felt like a professional line was crossed but I didn’t care. I wanted to make sure she was okay.
The rest of the day dragged and felt excruciatingly long. I just wanted to go home, sit on the couch, and drink a few beers before going to bed. Usually my routine also consists of grading papers, but considering yesterday I didn’t assign anything meant my night was free to relax.
I was at my desk playing on my phone during my prep period when I received the text i was long awaiting.
“Im fine, just a stomach ache. I’ll be back tomorrow and if it’s okay with you i’ll just do the assignment then.”
“She’s okay.” I sighed with a sense of relief.
Y/n’s pov:
My alarm had been going off for the last 10 minutes and I didn’t feel like moving to turn it off. My body felt heavy and I felt too weak to lift it. Most days were bad, but never like this. I could always get up and fake it, but today felt different. I felt numb and distant from my body. I texted my mom that I wasn’t going to school and closed my eyes and began drifting back to sleep with the sound of my alarm blaring in the background.
When I woke up again it was around 11. I had plenty of missed calls and texts. 22 notifications from my group chat with Kameron, Emily, and Amelia, but one text stood out from the rest. Mr. Davis. He had texting me to make sure I was okay, which was really sweet, but I didn’t know what to reply back that didn’t make it seem like I was in a dark pit of disparity.
I decided to go out and get some fresh air hoping it would bring some form of life to my cold and numb body. So I went downstairs, made a large cup of coffee, and went outside and sat on my porch. I sat there for what felt like hours, but when I checked my phone it had only been 45 minutes. I felt some sort of peace, but not a feeling of release peace, the kind of peace that numbs you out. You don’t have to worry about the past or what’s hurt you. You just don’t feel anything and that’s what makes it peaceful.
When I went back inside I replied to all the texts saying I was fine and that I would be there tomorrow, even though I didn’t want to be. I sat on my couch and put on a show and took a nap. I slept longer than I intended to because I woke up to Kyrie standing above me.
“What are you doing here?” He said with a sassy attitude.
“I didn’t feel well today so I stayed home.” I calmly replied.
“Well you could’ve at least picked me up, I had to ride the bus. the bus!” he said with his voice cracking.
“I’m sorry Ky, I didn’t mean to sleep in so late.” I apologized.
I felt awful. Kyrie was a really good kid, he got a shitty hand having to deal with our mother, but I always did what I could to save him the heartache of our mothers’ conditional love. Ive spent everyday since he was born to be the person I wish I had as a kid, and I let him down.
“it’s okay, y/n,” he says sitting on the couch putting his hand on the top of my head and petting me, “you’re not feeling well. Have you eaten?”
He really was the sweetest boy, he was born with such a pure heart and every bone in his body was kind and caring.
“I drank some coffee when I got up this morning, but that was all.” I replied.
“Are you hungry?” He questioned.
“A little, are you? I can make something.” I said sitting up on the couch and turning to look at Kyrie in the kitchen.
“I’m starving, but I can cook since you aren’t feeling well,” He said while looking in the fridge for something to eat, “grilled cheese?”
“Sounds yummy.” I answered while walking into the kitchen.
While Kyrie made grilled cheese we talked about his day. After we ate I helped him with his homework and then we watched movies until it was bedtime. He gave me the biggest hug and kissed my cheek and told me goodnight.
When Ky went to bed I tried to keep the house quiet so I went upstairs to my room and laid down and listened to music until mom came home banging around downstairs. I went downstairs to check on her, but to my surprise there’s a man in only his boxers and a wife beater looking in my fridge.
“Um, can I help you?” I questioned.
“You must be y/n, i’m a friend of your mothers.” the half naked man answered.
“I bet you guys are real close.” I sarcastically replied.
I knew this was just another random man that I would never see again so I decided to stop asking questions and to just go back to my room.
I could tell tonight wasn’t a night i was going to get much sleep so i decided to write. Writing music always relaxed me, it was a relieving kind of peace. I loved the feeling of the smooth ivory on the tips of my fingers. I plugged in my headphones and messed around until i played something that gave me goosebumps. While writing it out I began to yawn, so when I finished I threw the notebook on the floor and went to bed.

SICKFIC TROPES THAT MAKE ME GUSH
so we all know i love sickfics, they’re my favorite type of fanfictions (hmu if u have recs im desperate). so, in order to make a sickfic catered to my tastes, here is what i want (and tw for mentioned vomiting!) :
first of all, i REALLY love it when a character denies they’re sick and the other character(s) are kind of like but you are though. bonus pts if person a accidentally snaps at b but b is relentless
oh and when i say sickfic, the ones i prefer are LONG oneshots about like a high fever or horrible flu, the more pain the better (is that a bad thing to say)
there is something so tender about a placing a gentle hand on b’s forehead and saying something like “ur burning up”, my personal favorite. bonus pts if b leans into the “cool touch” LIKE UGH
an alternative to the previous one is a kissing b’s forehead and realizing how warm they are
the more detailed a description about a character’s ghastly appearance, the better. i’m talking pale as fuck, feverish blush, sheens of sweat, the works
for some reason, in het ships, i like it better when the man is being taken care of because it shows a weakness they typically wouldn’t show if it goes against their character (thats why how lily stole christmas is my favorite episode of himym)
if we’re being honest, i adore sickfics where its like a father/son relationship (TALKING ABOUT IRONDAD SPECIFICALLY) the dad person taking care of the son person is so sweet
FAINTING. if a character faints, you have me hooked. bonus pts if they get FOUND like hours later and dont faint in front of their caretaker (but thats okay too)
vomiting is permitted. personally, ive only thrown up three times in my life and i dont have emetophobia so it doesnt bother me and tbh i think it makes the fic better
NIGHTMARES. OMG WHEN A IS SHAKING AND CRYING FROM A FEVER DREAM AND B IS LIKE ITS OKAY IM HERE YOURE GONNA BE OKAY JUST *chefs kiss*
this doesnt happen often in sickfics i see, but b watching a sleep? its actually v sweet and romantic
CUDDLING. when a is laying on b’s lap and b is running their fingers through a’s hair UGH
i like when sickfics start in the middle of the night and a is being taken care of in the dead of night
singing of lullabies or sweet songs, very comforting and heartwarming
when a is delirious out of their mind. bonus pts if u get a confession out of it or some sad shit a has been keeping to themselves slips out I THRIVE ON THEIR ANGST AND PAIN
when b finds out that a is sick and carries them to bed bc they cant walk right—something about it just hits different
BREAKFAST OR ANY SORT OF MEAL IN BED— bonus pts if b feeds a jfc im spiraling
if the sickfic ends with a getting better, ALWAYS say something along the lines of “the fever broke” bc for some reason i like that way of describing a fever being gone
appendicitis fics are awesome even though that SHIT HURTS (ive never had it but ive seen that episode of the cartoon madeleine where she got it)
i dont like sickfics where the character is terminally ill because I MAY WANT THEM TO SUFFER BUT NOT ETERNALLY
when b drapes a blanket over a sleepy/cold a like that shit is so fucking adorable—if they give a jacket, thats cool too
when b has to take home a from a date or something cause they’re sick and being a stubborn lil bitch
any sort of touchy-feely stuff in fics will earn a 10

a’s refusal to eat bc they are either whiny asf or just cant keep shit down
bonus pts if the reason a is sick is because they were wounded previously and the wound is infected in some way
MAKE THEM DIZZY, i always get dizzy when im sick
i said this already but it needs its own bullet point—make it a long oneshot—like i want a to be sick for like a week or so
the tucking of a into bed or helping a change into comfy clothes

Broken Horns and Broken Hearts Chapter 8
Chapters: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10
Tubbo had collapsed into bed only a few moments before, but the next the boy knew, he was sitting in yet another meeting, with the rest of the cabinet casting him slightly strange looks as they argued.
He internally panicked, scouring his brain for any memories of getting up, or even walking to the meeting - but there was nothing. A quick check of his timetable confirmed that he’d only lost a few hours this time, instead of two whole days, but that didn’t make it any less terrifying. Where were these sudden gaps in his memory coming from? And why was Quackity staring at him like he’d grown a second head? He shook it off as nothing, perhaps their confrontation last night.
The meeting was followed by another speech, where Schlatt announced a festival to be held in a week, the organising of which was probably going to be delegated to Tubbo on top of the rest. The teen scanned the cityline in boredom, and he was pleasantly surprised to see Wilbur duck behind a parapet. Thankfully, the ex-president couldn’t see him - specifically his horns - from where he stood next to Quackity, but he took a small step back anyway to make sure. Remembering the conversation he had with Tommy yesterday, Tubbo made a mental note to write down the ambush plans they’d discussed earlier and deliver it to the hidden chest.
The gaps in his memory became more frequent as the festival drew near, but Tubbo somehow managed to keep his act together, ignoring the strange looks he got as his horns grew and his patience diminished. The teen also ignored the way his friends talked about him behind his back, denouncing him just because of Schlatt. He simply pretended not to hear the hurt remarks about his grumpiness.

Tommy slashed wildly with a stone blade, shards of granite screeching off the wall, and he heard Techno chuckle condescendingly from behind. The teen spun around in irritated tiredness to snap at his older brother.
“At least I’m preparing and not just farming fuckin’ potatoes for three hours straight, dipshit!”
The mocking smile on Techno’s face widened.
“The thing is, Tommy, I don’t need the training - you clearly do.”
“Oh, shut up. Stupid pig bastard.”
Tommy glanced worriedly upwards towards the ravine entrance, where Wilbur stood, currently fucking up his sleep schedule even more. The pig followed his gaze and raised an eyebrow, silently judging his hypocrisy, but Tommy ignored the hint and went back to attempting to massacre the granite wall. L’Mandog could look after Wilbur. They had a war to fight, and if The Blade was going to slack off, well. Then it was down to Tommy to carry their rebellion, wasn’t it?
3 bites of a baked potato later, Techno was back in his farm, both him and Tommy trying their best to pretend each other didn’t exist.
Strangely, it didn’t work.
Eventually, Tommy gave the wall a break and swapped his stone sword out for iron, strapping the bare blade to his hip.
“I’m gonna go check the notebook chest!”
The teen called to Techno, trying not to disturb Wilbur in his moonstruck reverie as he left. Despite his efforts, Tommy felt his brother’s eyes on his back as he crept through the undergrowth.
A few hasty ducks and desperate, pleading headshakes at Niki later, the teen made it to the hillside underneath the prime path that hid the chest. For a split second, he thought he saw a flash of black - Tubbo, maybe? - dash around the corner, but it was gone before he could call out to whoever it was.
A quick glance in ‘the mailbox’ (as Techno called it) revealed the notebook they'd been writing correspondences in, but thrown hastily down on its front, bending the spine. The messy placement was at odds with how it normally lay when it was Tubbo’s turn, but the teen didn’t think much of it other than a muttered curse at the dictator who was keeping his best friend busy doing everything that Schlatt should have been doing.
Tommy skimmed through the rushed explanation of the festival’s weaknesses and snapped a picture of the map Tubbo had painstakingly sketched of the proposed layout. They’d agreed not to use names in the book in case one of them was caught with it, so Tommy just scribbled ‘Thx bitch, hang in there’ on the next page and replaced the book.
For a moment, he entertained the crazy idea of abducting Tubbo so he wouldn’t have to deal with the drunken tyrant, but the thought was soon brushed off due to its impossible nature. Plus, who would be their spy then? Will tried to get in contact with Fundy, but was left on read - the fox was still seemingly bitter about losing the election, even if he did cheat.
After a wistful glance at the half-broken walls, Tommy shoved his communicator back in his pocket, took a step back and fell into a creeper hole.
“Fuck!”

It wasn’t long until Tommy came back from the mailbox, but it was 11:30 at night, so Techno once again tried to convince Wilbur to come into the relatively warmer Pogtopia. The ex-president was mumbling a steady stream of nonsense (which was slightly concerning, to say the least) but it wasn’t exactly a strange occurrence.
“Wilbur? Will?”
No response.
“I’ll make you stew if you come in.”
Food usually got the attention of his siblings, especially Tommy, but still Wilbur ignored him. With a sigh, Techno gave up and went back to his farm, giving L’Mandog a pat on the head as he turned away. It wasn’t the best result, but at least he tried, right?
Casting his memory back, the piglin couldn’t remember Tommy eating that day either, so he pulled a cauldron on top of the campfire anyway, letting the water boil while he rummaged in the chests for some steak. Cutting the meat into small cubes, he threw it into the pot alongside some salt and half a clove of chopped garlic. While the pot simmered, Techno sat cross-legged on the ground next to it and got to peeling and chopping some of the potatoes he’d farmed, throwing the peel in a nearby bucket. It didn’t take long for Tommy to come barreling down the narrow stairs, an ecstatic look on his face as he sniffed the air.
“It’ll be ready in a bit.” Techno grunted at him, ignoring his excited yell.
“Do me a favour and get Wilbur.”
The teen raised an eyebrow at him.
“Bet you already tried.”
The piglin glared at him, and Tommy raised his hands in surrender.
“Okay okay, I’m going!”

The festival date was set. Planning was under way. All the information had been leaked to the rebels - and yet Tubbo couldn’t help but feel he was missing something important. The feeling was so urgent, he’d checked off lists a million times and gone over everything with Quackity a million-and-one, and it still hadn’t gone away. That, combined with the memory gaps, bleeding horns, and the alcoholic president, weighed on him more heavily than he’d admit. Sleep was a rare luxury, not a necessity. Fundy took every opportunity he had to glare menacingly at him, and even the recently-released Niki kept her distance. It hurt, to be so isolated from these people he’d fought beside for months, but there was no time for moping. There was barely even time for breathing.
“Tubbo! Get me a coffee!”
“Yes, Mr. Schlatt!”
As he sped down the hall, clipboard and a stack of papers in hand, Quackity called him from outside. He set the papers down on the hallway table and stuck his head out the door.
“What?!”
Big Q motioned towards the square, where a large hole sat in the centre of the seating.
“A creeper blew up the square, can you fix it?”
“Yeah, just-”
“TUBBO! COFFEE!”
The teen bit his lip and gestured awkwardly over his shoulder.
“I gotta go-”
Without waiting for a response, he dashed back to the small break area where the coffee maker was kept. He set it going before rushing to collect the stack of forms left on the table. While the coffee brewed, he read through as many as he could. This was the usual routine - multitasking, never taking more than a second’s break, trying to stay on Schlatt’s good side - and he’d gotten used to it. As Tubbo grabbed a stack of cobble from his chest, a message buzzed through his communicator. Cobble in one hand, communicator in the other, he typed a reply in snatches, mostly looking forward as he hurried towards the creeper hole.

He sighed angrily.

Another message pinged through but Tubbo ignored it, shoving the little black box back in his pocket and continuing with his tasks. The next thing he knew, it was the middle of the night, moonlight streaming through the window of his room. A slight jolt of nausea accompanied the sudden change in his surroundings, but the teen shrugged it off. It was routine, after all. It was a struggle to pull his pyjama top over his head, as his horns grew bigger every day. Surely they’ll stop growing at some point. The sharp points protruded about a centimetre past his chin, and were a lot thicker than before. Succumbing to his exhaustion, Tubbo let out an ear-shattering yawn and fell into bed, digging his nails into the itchy skin around the base of the horns. A jolt of pain made him yelp, and something warm trickled down his hand.
Blood.
Note to self: Invest in bandages for these things!

I took the quiz thing a few times and I either got ENFP and the other times I got INFP so I guess I’m both intro and extroverted! I am the definitely the therapist friend! But I love making new friends and the only downside I have is that I have bad social anxiety so I don’t have great social skills. But when I do make friends I get excited too fast or I like skip small talk and start getting close and personal and everyone I met finds me to be too much and overbearing because I’ll rant for hours about things I love and people cut me off cuz my eyes get big and I talk louder and I start talking fast and it throws people off? But I’m fun I have a range of interests I’m family oriented. I love kids and have an ambition for teaching! I am a big risk taker and throw any rollercoaster my way and I’ll do it:)

Hen, Chick (and Hawk)
A concept sent to @yandere-love-love-love got me started on this fic, and the first thing I’ve written on my new laptop! Still getting used to the keyboard and it sucks! :D Anyhooo, this is written from the pov of the kid, purely because I thought it would be a bit more interesting.
You didn’t like the new apartment.
It was small; your apartment was nicer. It was big. Daddy called it an eyrie. Your room at home was big and soft- it had to be, to accommodate your wings (you were big enough now that you could keep your flapping under control, but it was annoying at home, where the worst meant Mommy and Daddy finding out you lied about brushing your teeth,but here that meant knocking into something, and after a couple of weeks your wings were sore). You didn’t have any toys here either, and that was no fun.
Mama liked it here though, you could tell.
You didn’t get it.
At home, Mama didn’t need to work. She didn’t have to leave. She could play with you all day if she wanted, or lay in bed all day. But now Mama went to work every day and left you with an elderly neighbor named Mrs. Saito. Mrs. Saito was nice, you guessed, but she was old, and didn’t really want to play, or do anything very interesting.
You missed Daddy.
You wanted him here, now. But Mama wouldn’t let call him, or tell you what was going on.
It all got fuzzy when Daddy had to leave town- he said he’d be gone for two weeks, but he’d bring back lots of presents to make up for it. Mama had hugged him tight when he left, and cuddled you when you started siffling. That day, Mama was jittery. She kept disappearing into hers an Daddy’s room. When Daddy called that night, to tell them good night, Mama had picked up and told im about her day, then let you talk to him.
But the moment that you were off the phone, she’d said you were leaving.
And you didn’t have any choice but to go with her.
You slept in the car the first night. Then you walked everywhere. There was a tiny motel room where the water was brown and the sheets had cigarette burns. It took two weeks for Mama to find a job and another month to get the apartment.
“When can we see Daddy?” You whined that night as Mama tucked you into bed.
Mama frowned and looked down at you, carefully tucked away for sleep, your wings folded gingerly.
“We aren’t.” She admitted, and you didn’t understand. Why wouldn’t you go home? Wasn’t this just a vacation?
“B-but I want Daddy!” You whined, your eyes getting hot with unshed tears. Mama sniffled and climbed into bd beside her, pulling you close.
“I know baby, but it’s better this way.”
But you didn’t understand.
So Mama told you a story.
It wasn’t a nice story.
But you never asked when you were going back to Daddy again.
You think about your Dad more than you want to admit.
It’s hard not to think of him, when wings sprout from your back, soft white and itching to fly. But you don’t, because that quirk would be too noticeable.
(Mom paid someone in the Quirk Registration offices to lie- you’ve got a weak quirk on paper, something about sensing changing wind currents. You don’t fly. Your wings are always folded neatly beneath your clothes, feathers plucked as soon as they grow in.
Mom cries every time you do it.
But she doesn’t stop you.)
You look like him too. You hate that.
But Mom doesn’t flinch when you move too quickly (a memory that you recovered when you were ten), or spend a scary amount of time with hat blank-faced stare when you do something that reminds her of him anymore (something that she did but used to hide). So things are okay.
You think about the story.
(The first time she told it, it was the bare bones.
There was a man who fell in love with a very unlucky woman.
He followed her and learned everythig about her; her name, where she lived, what she did, what she wanted.
And he approached her and wooed her and she loved him so much. Everything moved so fast her head spun, but that was alright, she thought, because she loved him.
She married him.
And then things got bad.)
Things are nice now. Normal. You’ve moved out of the dingy apartment and the gross hotel room. Now you live in a nice neighborhood. Mom has friends that she goes out with on Thursday nights. You usually hang out on Sundays- they remind you of when you were little and it was just you and Mom, because Dad-
(Her new husband always wanted to know where she was. He always kept her busy, and soon her other friends faded away. He was angry whenever she suggested going back to work because he could provide- why would she need to work?
She let him isolate and manipulate her until one day she went out without telling him.
For no reason she decided one day that she wanted to go out. If he loved her, she said to herself, he’d understand her need to breathe, to be away from him, just for awhile.
She didn’t do much that day, just walked around. Did some window shopping.
But she never entertained the thought of calling her friends. Or leaving him.
When she came back that evening, he was waiting at the door for her. He dragged her inside and that was the first time he hit her.)
Mom’s gonna be late tonight, so you’re probably just gonna get pizza and do your homework. You’re thinking about calling your friend Chi and bitching over the latest garbage episode of your guys’ least favorite show that you both watch unironically.
You like Chi because his favorite hero wasn’t Hawks. Well, there was more to it than that, but it made your friendship easier, purely because you didn’t have to look at your Dad’s smug PR smile on his merch everywhere when you went to his house. Chi preferred All-Might, something you both had in common.
But the thing is, you feel uneasy.
It’s nothing new, you always feel like that. Anxiety, Mom calls it, looking guilty. So you don’t tell her about it. It’s not her fault that you’re always scared that Dad’s coming, that he’ll find you both. You keep your long nights secret- nights where your breath is shallow and rattles in your throat and you can’t breathe because you’re so sure that he’s outside the window waiting waiting waiting
But you get home without incident. You unlock the door, lock it behind you, change into some sweatpants and text Mom you made it home safely. Then you study- math’s kicking your ass. You learn better by doing, and sitting still has and always will be a nightmare.
Mom says you get that from him.
But she didn’t sound sad when she said it. You’d been in the teacher’s office, again, because you didn’t get it, you got frustrated, so you lashed out. Mom had to leave work. You felt awful. But she didn’t yell at you or anything. She let the teacher talk, agreed you were in the wrong and then you talked about it at home. When you finally told her how hard it was she’d nodded and petted your hair.
“We’ll work on it together.”
And you did.
You learned how to listen, how to pay attention. Little tricks.
You’re not stupid, you just needed extra attention.
(And not because you don’t have a dad, like the PTA mom’s hush-whisper about)
Around 6 you order pizza, checking your phone. Chi hasn’t called you back. Mom’s messaged you to remind you not to stay up too late and that she loves you.
Love you too, ma, you text back.
(After that, her husband didn’t let her leave the house. He kept her locked in the bedroom. Sometimes he drugged her to keep her quiet. He’d come home and fix dinner and bring her out and feed her as if she were some pet.
But now the woman knew what kind of man she’d married. She began to fight him, using the pain to spur her onward.
One night she nearly got away.
But by nearly, she almost made it to the door.
Her husband dragged her back to the bedroom and he hurt her.
-Mom shows you the scars on her back when you’re 10, because you didn’t know how bad it was and you wanted to know.
You traced the scarring carefully, with gentle fingers. You could imagine the feather in Dad’s hand. Brighter red than the blood welling up. He’d taken care that it was scar, would pull if she moved a certain way.

And after that she couldn’t fight him, because then she was going to have a baby.)
You take a break after you order. Your eyes are starting to ache and your hand is cramping. You could call it a night reasonably. Instead you shower and unbind your wings, sighing as you flex them. You’d be lying if you sad that you didn’t worry about what the constant plucking and binding was doing to your wings.
There’s a knock on the door and you scramble to grab your wallet.
“Coming!” You shout, running because, well, pizza.
But when you open the door and standing there, holding the pizza box is your Dad, smiling like nothing is wrong. Like you saw each other this morning, not 6 years ago. Like he isn’t a monster.
“Dad,” you say quietly, gripping the door. His smile is every bit as predatory as his name.
“Hey eyas! Gonna let your old man in?” You notice that his foot is wedged against the door. You couldn’t close it if you wanted. Or, rather, if you had the presence of mind.
But all you can think about are the scars on your Mom and how much he scares her still. What will he do to you?
Dad’s still waiting, and laughs a little, “c’mon kiddo, pizza’s getting cold. We can catch up til your Mom gets home!” There, there’s that darkness that you know is there, never noticed as a kid.
Wordlessly, you step aside and let him in, trying not to tremble.
You know what he is, and you hate him. But that’s still your Dad. And he wants to know all about you.
“You don’t deserve to know me!” You snap, interrupting his steady stream of questions as he goes through your phone. You shove your pizza away and stand up to leave- to run.
But your Dad’s wing flares out, blocking the door and cornering you. Dad just looks up at you without moving his head.
“Kiddo, sit down. We’re gonna have a talk now, okay?”
You know what he can do with those wings. Mom tortures herself and watches his televised fights. There’s a reason that he’s #2. So you sit your ass down. He nudges the pizza towards you again.
“Tell me, why don’t I deserve to know you? Is it because I didn’t find you immediately when your Mom had a moment of insanity and stole you?” You open your mouth, but he keeps talking, eyes flashing. “Do you have any,” he takes a deep breath and tries to lower his voice, “any idea what it was like when I came home and you both were gone? Bags packed, no note, your mom’s ring just there on the counter-!”
“You can’t even tell the truth now, can you!” You demand, because damn the neghbors, hopefully they’ll cal the cops. “You called her nightly to make sure she was where you put her! How long until you rushed home because you knew she’d found a way out, a way to get us out and stay safe-”
“Safe?!” He snarled, “I finally track you down and you’re terrified of me, your wings are- are plucked, living illegally-”
“Mom has a legal job-!”
“Lying to the Quirk Registry Office is a crime, along with kidnappig.”
“You kidnapped her! You isolated her and hurt her and raped-”
His backhand is sharp and snaps your head to the side.
“Don’t you ever say that again.” Hawks voice is dangerously low, and goosebumps break out on your skin. Your cheek hurts- it’s gonna bruise. But you don’t move. “I love your mother, I did everything for her, to keep her safe, and happy. Sometimes people don’t know what they want,” remarkably, he smiles again, and you want to hurl. “She needed me, and she needed a baby- and now she needs to be reminded exactly why you don’t kidnap your child and hide them for 6 years.”
“Dad-”
“Love is a beautiful thing, kiddo,” he cups your hand and curls his wing around you, and you stifle a sob.
You...you have good memories of your Dad.
Memories that you don’t like thinking about, because he’s a monster, good memories of him aren’t fair.
But dad taught you how to groom your wings and held you when you were scared. He took you to the doctor when you got sick and surprised you in the morning with omelettes and cheese because he wanted to show his family that he loved them. When sat on his lap he’d wrap his wings around you and you felt warm and safe and you’re crying now, you can’t help it as he hugs you close and strokes your hair.
“Love is so beautiful, and I can’t let anything ruin that,” he coos, kissing your head.
