Minor Nimona Spoilers
So I just finished watching Nimona and for some reason two scenes paralleling one another that really stuck out to me is the Small-Minded Questions one and how Nimona reacts to them, because it feels so relatable as a queer person
The first time it is used, it's after Ballister, without realizing it, asks Nimona to justify her existence
Tumblr media
"How did you get like this?" or "why are you [x]" is certainly a question that many queer people must've heard throughout their life. It's trying to act someone to justify their existence, treat something intrinsic to their nature as something "other" that corrupted them, not as something that is just... part of them And Nimona is understandably upset
And then the second time the words Small-Minded Question are used, is after Ballister asks this question
Tumblr media
And this time she takes it a lot better. Because he's stopped asking Nimona to justify being who she is, and now he's asking about her experience, what it feels like from her point of view.
And I think for many queer people, they'd always prefer to be asked the second question rather than the first. To share our experiences with the people around us, without being asked to justify it and treat it as "other"

A lot of folks said that Marina in the rap was being passive aggressive back towards Shiver, but honestly I rather think that Marina is intentionally being nice. I think she chooses to come across as clueless.
I think if you told Marina “you know shiver’s not being nice, right?” She’d say “figured.”

saiki being an oblivious harem protagonist is the funniest concept ever to me... its so fitting with the normal tdlosk shenanigans too...
like imagine, maybe hes wearing his ring, is out of town, or doesnt have his powers in the exact moments someone realizes theyre in love with him.. so he doesnt have the benefit of immediately hearing the words "im in love with saiki" so he'll have to figure it out with context clues and yk. emotional intelligence.
WHICH HE SUCKS AT AND DOESNT HAVE.
notice how the only people we know had a crush on him in the show are people who very explicitly thought "i have such a huge crush on saiki.." "i think im falling in love with saiki!" "saiki youre my soulmate, kiss me!" but anyone else could have and he just didnt know... what about people who are more subtle with their feelings, people who havent even realized their own feelings yet, or even people who are actually pretty obvious but saiki just doesnt get it !
(also i wrote this out a while ago and then read this volume a bit later and im adding this cuz it reminded me of it lol)

WHAT HAPPENS TO PHRASES AFTER THE COLLAPSE?
DOES SAINT DO THE THING
I NEED TO KNOW
oh i have a page in a sketchbook page about this! one sec
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
no sorry to say but phrases does Not get to ascend, i think they just sit there until their systems are overcome by the cold and theyre just. beyond fixing, beyong consciousness. if its any consolation it wouldnt take very long. theyre so far north that the cold is already so encompassing that when there arent two or more iterators near eachother they dont emit enough heat to melt enough water to keep themselves alive under normal circumstances. now the entire world is coming into an ice age and the poles are getting c o l d. soon theres not enough water to sustain phrases and nights, and with phrases age (they were like. midearly gen 2) their structure is giving in on them. nights falls shortly after them
my headcanon for the slugcats follows canon pretty closely, and i like to think moon's group was pretty central, so saint wouldnt get anywhere near phrases' group. in my heacanon the events of saints campaign are just saints experience as an echo forever. i guess you could argue that before that saint went around and ascended everyone then went to the sea, but idk why would it just be moon and pebbles forever, what makes them different from all the others yknow? maybe theyre the first ones saint ascends? idk whatever lmao im losing my point which is no i dont think any of my ocs got ascended by saint
which means that they all just slowly died, like an iterator naturally does without support in a dying world. i would consider this functioning in the cycle like death of old age, and they would all start an entirely new cycle, with no memory of who they were before. maybe they incarnate into like a...... yeek relative evolved to better withstand the cold or something idk
Tumblr media Tumblr media
its right below you buddy. the water? right there! tantalizingly close. its so so close, just sitting around your structure but oh you cant drink it, cant reach it because its frozen. its too cold. and now your pipes are freezing. and youre starving. and its there but you cant reach it and your body is giving up on you a

"snow hates katniss because she's lucy gray reincarnated" well no. it's not magic, not some kind of prophecy, not a saga of one family that's fated to overthrow the regime. katniss *isn't* lucy gray, she's just a girl. that's the point. she's nobody.
except that she is lucy gray. not *actually* but in spirit, in her actions. because what lucy gray and katniss -- and snow himself -- prove is that nobody can be truly independent of their community. snow wants to believe (he is taught to believe) that we are all ungenerous, calculating, power-hungry. that we all value ourselves above all else, that we could never love selflessly because we are, at our core, selfish. so when lucy gray shows him that doesn't have to be the case, it terrifies him. and so, in his fear, he kills her, hoping that will kill the doubt she seeds inside of him. kill the source of the doubt, kill the doubt itself. prove to yourself that love is selfish. win at the game that you yourself created -- snow lands on top.
and for years, you really believe that. you won. you steadily gain power, people show you the same story, over and over. and it twists you, warps you, into the calculating dictator you were told you had to be.
only then, decades later, another girl shows you the very same thing: true, unselfish, radical love. a girl who volunteers to die for her sister, who sings to her friend as she dies, would rather die than kill the boy she loves, and she's from the same place as the very person who first made you doubt it. you thought you'd killed that doubt years ago, but what you failed to account for was that killing lucy gray doesn't kill her love.
so katniss reminds snow of lucy gray, but not because she *is* her, but because she created something that can't be killed. it's not magic, it's art. it's no accident that katniss grew up singing her songs. lucy gray is dead, but her art lives on, and woven into that art is the love she showed snow all those years ago. her love can't be killed because it doesn't belong to her individually -- it belongs to her people. and it's nurtured in that community. it's in the art, the music, and thus in the people that live there. love becomes the soundtrack of an entire community, and then it lives on in their lives and their actions. it lives on in katniss' father who sings his way into her mother's heart, it lives on in haymitch who holds his ally when she dies, and then in katniss and prim and peeta and every person from district 12 who shows that same selfless, radical love. it wasn't fate, or destiny, or even one family. it's community. it's art. no man is an island. we cannot survive without love.

What’s your opinion on transgenders people? I ask as i have seen you reblog a few things and I am unsure on your stance. I mean this in no judgmental way i would just like to know your thoughts
anon this ask both excites me and fills me with caution, but! I will provide you with what you seek!
what do I think about transgender people? Here’s my answer to that, but be warned, it is lengthy!
1) they’re to be treated as people, not outcasts. Human is human, and we are supposed to treat fellow humans with love, care, and respect, even if we don’t agree with the people in question, or if it’s just plain hard.
2) I say this with gentleness: their perceptions of themselves are skewed*, and there are many reasons for this with the primary one being that we live in a broken world, which leads to everything else. But one of the absolute worst things we can do to trans people/ people who want to be trans, regardless of the reason, is to go along with the idea that they are or can be any other gender than the one they were born with. As you can probably tell, I believe in the God of the Bible, and that while human hands may have written the physical book, He speaks through the people that wrote it. So let’s let His Word do the talking.
You know the creation story, yeah? It’s ok if you don’t, let’s recap anyways:
Every day for 6 days, God made aspects of our universe, and when He declared everything finished – perfect! God’s work ain’t finished ‘till it’s perfect – He rested on the 7th day (Genesis 1 and 2). On the 6th day He made humans, male and female, and they were made in the image of God Himself (Gen. 2:26). They were also the only aspect of creation God formed with His own hands; Genesis 2:7 says God made the first man from the dust of the earth, and verses 21-22 says He took a piece of the man to make the first woman.
That might not seem huge to you, but it speaks volumes of the care God put into humanity specifically. Everything else – the sun, stars, sky, trees, dogs, almost everything you can think of – God simply spoke them into existence. But for humans; for you, anon? He got up, got His hands dirty, and shaped your head, your heart, your spirit, your body. He gave humanity a literal special touch that He gave to nothing else.
This is reinforced again by God speaking through king David’s Psalm 139, verses 13-16:
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body     and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!     Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,     as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born.     Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out     before a single day had passed.
God is omnipresent, meaning that He’s everywhere all the time any time, and nothing escapes His knowledge. This includes the creation of a new human being (again: male or female, no secret 3rd option for this one). And because God Himself – who makes no mistakes – oversees and ordains the creation of every new little boy or girl, wouldn’t it make sense that God would make them as He intended to make them: perfectly, without mistake? There is then no ground for the “born in the wrong body” argument to stand on, because God made your body with you in mind; your body was made specifically for you, and there were no errors on His end.
Now, what if you just straight up don’t like your body? I think everyone has disliked their body and/or felt uncomfortable in it at some point, that includes me. If someone’s going through puberty then they are almost guaranteed to be uncomfortable in their body because that kiddo and their body both are growing up. Sometimes you’re uncomfortable in your body simply because it’s changing, but this particular change is a good thing! Going through puberty is a sign that your body is working as it should, even if it feels weird. To try and block this transition from happening, or deliberately alter it, is to actively harm your body’s natural progression.
So yes, I do think that a trans person’s view of their body – that they were made for a different body and so they should change it – is not only wrong, but harmful to themselves in the long run. Why are we affirming this; giving people of all ages the means to scar themselves to feel good in the now?
Last bit before the TL;DR: if there’s anyone out there who thinks God won’t except them for any reason that you can think of, I’m gonna stop you right there. There is grace for you. Yes, even for that; please refer to my pinned post. And also this.
My explanation doesn’t cover all bases I’m sure, but the TL;DR is that the human body is a sacred thing designed by God, with care, made differently and specifically for every individual person, and it is medical malpractice (evil) to alter it within the context of transgenderism. If you have undergone the gender transition at any time – or have done anything else, ever – God still loves you with his whole heart, and He wants you to let Him help you with whatever may have dragged you down this time. Even if it was self-inflicted.
Lastly, some stuff I didn’t know how to cleanly fit into All That
*it is worth noting that basically everyone has a skewed perception of themselves about different things and to different degrees, but in this context I mean “a skewed perception of how a trans person relates to their body”
Creation was deemed “good” before people, but after people, God declared it “very good.” Again, in Genesis 1. I literally cannot stress enough how much God wants people to come to Him for whatever the reason

people who are saying 'no' on that "is listening to an audiobook the same as reading?" poll are super annoying and i hate that we have this same discourse every couple of weeks but it's reallyyyyyy interesting to me that so many people are saying that you aren't 'interacting' with the story in the same way because, the inherent ableism of that aside, you absolutely can analyze and think critically about a story even if you don't physically read it. you can listen to a story and think deeply about it and i think you're all very very weird to believe you can't. just because you only half-listen to things doesn't mean the rest of us don't pay attention and think deeply about it.

ok I am once again having Thoughts on Nimona:
This has been said before but Nimona and Gloreth's backstory is so incredibly heartbreaking especially because it never occurred to Gloreth to treat Nimona differently because she's a shapeshifter, she just thought it was really cool and they kept being friends. BECAUSE THATS HOW KIDS ARE!!! Yes kids can be incredibly cruel sometimes (I got bullied a lot, I know) but they generally don't care about what's "normal" or not. Prejudice because of specific differences is taught. It's not something that people would naturally do and maybe that's the reason this movie hit me so hard right now because there's all these people demonising queer people lately and I've been do frustrated with people saying that having idk, two dad's in a kid's book will confuse the children...
Nimona isnt just a queer story because there's canon representation but because of the THEMES. Nimona and Gloreth just gave me the vibes of children who behave outside of heteronormativity and get told that they're not supposed to do that and then internalise all that hater and direct it at people who refuse to fit themselves into a box...
Also the fact that Nimona was just defending herself again a mob of people and was made out to be the monster???? What the fuck man....

the "big picture" - whether that refers to some detached, calculated greater good; ruthless ambition and progress for the sake of progress; or even the dear listeners' cosmic indifference - as an antagonistic force in wolf 359 is so fascinating to me because of the way eiffel as a protagonist is set up to oppose it, just by nature of who he is. eiffel retains his humanity even under the most inhumane circumstances. his strength is in connection, and with that he's able to reach others who share his core values, but he's operating under a fundamentally different framework from the show's antagonists. he can never understand where they're coming from or be swayed by their points of view because, for better or worse, he can only see the world through a close personal lens.
it's an ideological conflict he has with all of them, but notably with hilbert: "you talk about helping people, but what about the real, live people around you? [...] that's your problem. you're so zoomed out." eiffel will never, ever see that "big picture" because he is so zoomed in. at his best, he puts things into perspective and grounds the people around him. at his worst, his perspective narrows so drastically inwards that he becomes blind to everyone and everything else. his failings are deeply, tragically human - they're personal, they're impulsive, they're self-destructive. they're selfish. no matter how much he might try to narrativize or escape from himself, he's still left with doug eiffel: "it's taken me this long to realize that running from everyone else means that you're alone with yourself." eiffel could never be convinced to harm others on purpose, but he has hurt people, and it's never been because he didn't care. the very fact that he cares so much, that he's incapable of reconciling the hurt he's caused with the things he values, is what keeps him from real growth for so long. where many of the other characters in wolf 359 will justify their cruelty in service of something they consider more important, eiffel is so caught up in vilifying himself and the fear that he's always going to harm the people he cares for without meaning to that he shuts himself off from the people who care about him and perpetuates his own self-fulfilling prophecy.

Saw this post and got inspired to find some numbers
On AO3 there are 315 fics tagged Ashton/Orym
Of those 315, 186 are tagged 'other' (59%). Of those 186, 62 are also tagged as m/m (33% of fics tagged other, 19% total). And from what I can tell, of those 62 only 19 of those fics have another m/m relationship (30% of fics tagged other and f/m, 10% of fics only tagged other, 6% total fics)
On the Callowmoore side, there are 108 fics tagged Ashton/Fearne
Of those 108, 67 are tagged as 'other' (62%). Of those 67, 8 are also tagged as f/m (11% of fics tagged other, 7% total). And from what I can tell, of those 8 only 3 have another f/m relationship tagged (37.5% fics tagged other and f/m, 4% of fics tagged other, and 2% total fics)
So in conclusion, callowmoore writers are more likely to tag their work as other, and less likely to tag both other and f/m than ashrym writers are likely to tag as both other and m/m
Feel free to check my math/numbers, I just thought it was interesting to point out

The development of 2012 Leo is honestly sad cause in truth his development is him losing himself or at least his childhood innocence.
It’s not positive character development for him but not in the means that he becomes a horrible person, no, more that the pressures and high expectations of him being leader slowly starts to get to him and take away his innocent mindset he once had in season 1. He wanted to be leader because he wanted to be just like Captain Ryan, unaware of the responsibilities and trauma that will soon come his way. I guess we could say it’s him rushing to maturity or the harsh reality hitting him because he’s leader.
He becomes some what of a jerk but given his situation, it’s understandable. He has a hard time trusting people (Ex: Slash, Fugitoid, Mona/Sal, Shinigami, Usagi etc) because his goal is to keep his brothers safe which result in him coming off as rude towards those people. Not to mention how he must always have this persona of him being a wise, serious and strong leader his brothers can look up to and trust, to keep the hopes in his team alive.
I always talk about and admire 2012 Raph’s positive character development, how he learns to be more open and not fear his own emotions. For Leo he goes through a negative development, but not in the sense that he becomes worse or a horrible person, but that his life becomes more sad, he has little chances to grow in a positive light, let alone act his age. All his growth/maturity comes from trauma and reality being cruel, he was forced to grow up way too quickly, and it all started when he asked to be leader.
