I saw you opened your requests so here is mine, would it be okay if the scenario featured the reader who can’t sleep at nights because of nightmares so they go up to the boys dorms, more specifically Katsuki’s room, and he cuddles them to, sort of, show he’s protecting them? Sleep. What a valuable and wonderful thing. That is, if you’re able to sleep.

For you, it was something that you dreaded to do every night. Ever since you were a kid, you would constantly get nightmares every night. Instances where you were being murdered or being chased down by a dark, shadowy being clouded your mind during the depths of the night and it is, in no way, a fun experience.

By the time you entered junior high, your parents decided to bring you to a specialist. They diagnosed you with something called nightmare disorder, or ‘dream anxiety disorder’. Your nightmares always consisted of you being in danger or having your life being jeopardized.

The doctor was able to prescribe you with medicine after you were tested at a facility. The pills worked for the most part but the doctor did caution that some days, days filled with stress and tension, could lead you to having a nightmare.

Since then, you had graduated from junior high and were now in your second semester in your first year in U.A. All was going well, and despite the various villain attacks, your sleeping schedule wasn’t as bad as it usually was. But since your boyfriend, Bakugou, was kidnapped by the League of Villains, you were always on edge. Although he was alright now, you were constantly worried and thus exerting tension on yourself.

And tonight, you experienced a nightmare after a long time.

It was different from the usual ones you always got. You found yourself being captured by the League and you were put in the same place Bakugou was put in. And you were terrified.

You woke up panting, chest heaving up and down and sweat beads piling up on your forehead. Your body was shaking and your fists clutched the covers so tightly.

The only person who knew about your condition other than your parents was Bakugou. And right now, you desperately wanted some peace of mind by being beside him.

You grabbed one of your smaller blankets, wrapping it around yourself due to the cool air. Grabbing the doorknob, you peered out the doorway as you tiptoed towards the boys’ dorms. You were praying that you wouldn’t get caught due to the strict rule of no girls being in the boys’ dorms and vice versa.

You stopped in front of Bakugou’s room, knocking softly against the door. No answer. You tried knocking once more, this time a bit more loud. Still no answer. Pushing the door open, you peered into the dark room and tiptoed your way towards Bakugou’s bed.

Despite normally being a light sleeper, Bakugou was in a deep sleep, his chest rising up and down in a smooth and steady rhythm. You gently shook his shoulder. “Katsuki?”

He let out a groan, opening one eye and glancing at you. He rubbed his eyes, still remaining in his position, and lifted the comforter up to allow you entry into his bed. He knew you only disturbed his sleep when you had nightmares. “Come ‘ere.”

You grinned, crawling in beside him. He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you against him, nuzzling his face into your neck. “You wanna talk about it?”

You shook your head, curling your fingers around his hand. “No, I’d rather talk about it tomorrow. I’m still a little scared from it.”

“Mm.” 

“I’m sorry for disturbing you. I know how much you love your sleep.”

“Whatever. Nothing is more important to me than you,” Bakugou mumbled. You felt yourself blush, unaccustomed to his sweet words.

“Still, I’m always bothering you about my problems.”

“I’ve got shit to deal with about myself, too. You’re not bothering me. I’m your boyfriend, and if I can’t be there for you when you need me, then what the fuck am I good for?”

You smiled to yourself, snuggling against his warm body. “You know, you’re actually really romantic when you want to be.”

“Shut up. One more word about me being romantic and I’ll kick you out.”

You rolled your eyes playfully. “Yeah right. You love me too much to do that.”

“Damn right.”

“His late father always said that a useless man should strive to be useful, so to that end, third-year high school student Nariyuki Yuiga dedicated himself to becoming a high-achieving student in his school, despite his history of poor grades. In order to give his destitute family a better life, his ultimate goal is to obtain the special VIP nomination, a prestigious scholarship covering all future university tuition fees. Although Nariyuki could feasibly be a shoe-in for the nomination, he is constantly overshadowed by classmates Rizu Ogata and Fumino Furuhashi in mathematics and literature, respectively. To his delight, Nariyuki receives the nomination, but there's a catch: he has to tutor his two star classmates, who are each hopelessly mediocre at the other’s subject of expertise! To make matters worse, the subjects they are horrible at are the same subjects they want to pursue for their future. As the time to submit university applications draws nearer, Nariyuki must find an effective tutoring method for the girls before it’s too late.”

gradblr challenge week 4: 08.22.2018

I’m finished with orientation, although I start work tomorrow! I used the afternoon to finish reading confederates in the attic and this article for my women’s and gender history class, and I also cooked some very delicious alfredo noodles for dinner. since it was a student discount day, I enjoyed a matinee of crazy rich asians earlier in the afternoon. (I actually love going to the movies by myself.) 

tomorrow I start my first shift at one of the archives on campus!

SOUNDS DELICIOUS: Cults Cover The Motels’ Self-Titled Debut

I can still remember the first time I heard Cults’ music. It was 2010 and I was on a short break from a particularly bad day at a job I hated. A friend or colleague (I can’t remember who it was honestly) sent me a link to their Bandcamp page where they’d posted three debut tracks. My day was instantly brighter. It was obsession at first listen. We literally included them on every “best of” list that we could that year and I’ve probably wore down the grooves on our copy of that vinyl.

They’ve released three full length albums since that time and our love has never diminished. From “Go Outside” to “I Took Your Picture”  – we’ve cherished everything they’ve ever released in our home.

So, as you can imagine, when they reached out to us about participating in SOUNDS DELICIOUS, we were ecstatic. It’s seriously been hard keeping this one under wraps but we’re excited to finally share the news: Cults’ are the latest featured artist in our SOUNDS DELICIOUS series and they’re covering The Motels’ self-titled debut album from start to finish.

Cults had this to say about the release:

A song begins. A guitar is gently strummed. The slow patter of drums enters to keep the beat. A woman’s voice joins singing in a desperate tone. “Every night I sit, home alone, sitting by my…” Sounds familiar right?

The casual rhyme of “alone” and “telephone” has been irresistible a long, long time. It’s easy and it makes sense now more than ever. But Martha Davis isn’t sitting around waiting for a call from a boy. She’s there “Sitting by my, radio. Just hoping that something good will come on. But it never does.”

This is one of the many subversions of classic songwriting that made us fall in love with this album. Whether she’s chastising (and reveling in) the idea of fashion on “Dressing Up” or unpacking the meaninglessness of instant pleasure on “Kix”, Martha Davis is kind of writer who sees clearly and never takes the obvious route to express hidden truths.

We found out about The Motels about seven years ago, when we were on tour with an amazing band called Total Control in Australia. We thought it was the greatest band name ever and later found out through googling that it was based off a song that came out in 1979 and was a big hit here and down under. After listening to it dozens and dozens of times we starting covering it to help lengthen our set (we had only one 33 minute album at the time!) and to pay homage to what we felt was a kindred spirit.

When we started talking to Turntable Kitchen through some friends, the idea of covering a whole album sounded like a blast. Luckily, we didn’t have to pour through our vinyl collection or have long debates about what to choose. It was gonna be ‘The Motels.’ It was one of the easiest decisions we’ve ever made as a band.

Anyway, we hope y’all enjoy our take on it. We knew we could never match the punch and raw emotionality of the original recording, so we tried to get a little weird with it. We stretched some parts out, shrunk others and took some liberties here and there. We hope y’all find it trippy and fun to listen to. We certainly had fun making it. If all this this yammering comes down to one final point it would be this.

Like the artwork for both the GEMS and Pure Bathing Culture releases before it, that beautiful album jacket is designed by Seattle-based illustrator Teresa Grasseschi. Wait until you get a load of the whole spread. It’s a beaut!

Cults’ version of Motels is only available by subscribing to SOUNDS DELICIOUS. In addition to a deluxe edition for our Kickstarter supporters, it’s available on white colored vinyl for recurring subscribers and gift orders of 6-months or more (while supplies last) and on black vinyl for all other orders. As always, each copies comes packaged with a digital download of the album. Only 1000 copies were pressed in total! These are expected to begin shipping next week!
