I've been thinking after a conversation with @guraiuna how everyone describes Childe as unpredictable.

And... yes, technically he is unpredictable. In the sense that human mind cannot conceive the shit this guy comes up with.

But also in every single interaction he *explains* what to expect of him. He states his goals, in which capacity he is currently here (personal/professional) and what he is going to do about that.

Even when you are a complete stranger and an enemy he is currently trying to trick, he still does it, just in the form of a hint.

He does it in the Golden House before the duel and before summoning Osial, he does it in Labyrinth Warriors, he does it with the treasure hoarders in Liyue and those thugs who threatened the blacksmith in Fontaine. He does it with Neuvilette (who then proceeds to assume the boy is just making fun of the court).

I wonder if it's because he views everything as a game or a duel and it makes sense to let the opponent know the rules. It's not fun to cheat (he's also confident in his ability to win).

He is extremely straightforward if you listen to him. I rarely see people who announce boundaries and intentions this clearly.

Does anyone ever take that seriously? N o p e. And somehow he's the crazy and unpredictable one. I can't with you all.

(to be honest, I do that too. I've spent so much time thinking the first encounter in Fontaine was a trick of some sort)

Maybe I cry the ocean

In the last few weeks I have felt numb, still do and I'm not even sure if a few weeks is enough. It feels like years.

The ocean in my head is drowning everything out. In the far distance, I can hear the 52hz whale crying, but I can't answer. Water stops my voice and fills my lungs. I can't breath, but my heart beats faster than I can count.

I don't have the energy to stay afloat, so I'm sinking like a wrack. The darkness beneath me grabs my feet and pulls me down. I close my eyes, waiting to hit the ground.

I don't feel it. As I open my eyes to look down, all I see is black. I know that down there is a ground. Nothing is infinite. I just don't see it. I can't see it.

While still sinking, the world of creatures swims by me. Beautiful and ugly, tiny and big. I try to touch a shiny fish but it swims away.

I cry.  At least I think I do. My tears immediately mix with the water of the sea. I can't tell them apart. The deeper I sink the more I get pulled down. Harsh. It will probably leave markes on my skins.

I try to scream  but every last breath of mine seems to be made of the sea. Or my tears.

Maybe I'm drowning in my tears.

Maybe I cry the ocean.

Actually, while I was complaining about bad writing, Childe low-key saved the world. He bought Neuvilette and the Traveler enough time to figure out the whole shtick with the prophecy and the primordial sea.

here’s the story behind our latest single, The Loneliest Whale 🐋🛸👽🖤✨

it’s a story in three parts

the first verse is about the loneliest whale. in the 80s, there was a scientist who picked up a weird signal on one of her machines. eventually, she realized that it was the song from a blue whale. what was weird about it was that it was at 52hz, whereas most blue whales songs are at around 20hz.

since this blue whale has such a unique signal, scientists have been able to track it over the years. and they’ve noticed that the whale is always alone — they never pick up the 52hz whale song with the song of another whale. scientists believe this is because the signals are so different. the loneliest whale can’t hear the whale song of other blue whales, and they can’t hear him.

when I learned about the loneliest whale, I immediately thought about aliens. we’re kind of in a similar boat — we’ve been sending out signals and we’ve never gotten a response. are we alone in the universe? or are we just at the wrong frequency? either way, we’re functionally alone. that’s the second verse.

the third verse brings it back to a personal level, and is about how being human is inherently lonely. no matter how well you know another person, you’ll never really know what it’s like to be them.

the short answer is that the song is about loneliness.

What I Liked

hhhhh god the first person pov was. at first. i rly dont like first person pov but the best way to use first person pov is an unreliable narrator trope and it works so well here. chi nan is rly truly dense/maybe in denial? low self-esteem? but he rly doesn't know when ppl like him and even all of salinger's gentleness just goes over his head like ur so nice to ur fanboy salinger-oppa but that's also part of why salinger has grown to love him so much. like some parts were? p obvious to the readers prob? like when salinger wrote wish it is love and had a second helmet made but chi nan is just like, wow that's nice ge! and i am there like, salinger is prob falling in love w u, u silly boy

soul vibration really is the perfect title for them, what salinger and chi nan have rly could be described as simply as "soul vibration". the series of fate-like coincidences, the way their tacit understanding just forms so naturally, as if they were two halves of a whole just waiting for the other to come to them... tbh with the way salinger treated his past lovers and music and how his confession would be "would you start a band with me?", he somewhat reminds me of the 52hz whale, living in this world with no one else quite on the same frequency as he is. but then comes chi nan, who loves him, who loves his music, loves rock, and the text doesn't say it, but i really do wonder if this is salinger's "first love", in a way

i also like the romantic, whimsical, poetic, yet melancholic vibe that permeates the whole story, told in chi nan's rose-colored filter of his idol salinger, the admiration that has turned to love somewhere but is untold, maybe because chi nan doesn't quite know when it became love or doesn't admit it due to a mental block, his concern over his hearing loss and how he lives every day like it's going to be his last to be embraced by music

it's full of vibes is like a crap way to describe this wn but it rly do be full of vibes. mb bc it's in the pov of a songwriter but the prose is filled w metaphors of an ordinary sort of beauty that could be turned into art bc that's how inspiration is, how something so trivial could become a muse... it's the sort of story that evokes something like an image as simple as the first ray of sunlight of a dawn breaking through the night, in between tall skyscrapers of an indifferent concrete forest, but also the silent roar of a blackhole spinning endlessly in the depths of the universe as a new star is born in a different corner... im just rambling at this point lmao

the vague happy ending told in post-ending extras, just enough to give a taste of what happens but not elaborated enough that it gives a lot of room for readers to imagine what happens after...

What I Disliked

dr solo and ending the story just as they get together /crying

more abt the tl, but there r like plenty of grammar mistakes n typos. via lactea i believe u can do better.
