tommy (at this point already casually dating buck) hanging out with eddie and calling him out on his feelings
alternatively eddie last minute helping maddie before the wedding and maddie calling him out on his feelings
or both
both? both. both is good :D i hope you enjoy it, it got a little long haha! if you want to send me a buddie prompt, click here!
Tommy is the first one to bring it up.
They're finishing up on the basketball court, and everyone has filed out by this point, leaving the two of them alone. Tommy is driving Eddie back anyhow, and today was an intense game, so they're taking their time.
Why Tommy chooses to bring it up before the car ride, Eddie doesn't know. But what a way to make it awkward.
"Hey, man I need to tell you something," he says as they return to the car. "So you're not blindsighted when it happens."
"Everything okay?" Eddie asks, clearly concerned.
"Well, not really." he lets out a tired laugh. "Uh...I'm going to be breaking up with Evan. I wanted to tell you so that, you know, you could do what you do and be there for him."
Shocked, Eddie steps in front of Tommy, "Wait, what? I thought things were going great with the two of you." he feels his gut twist uncomfortably - the last thing Eddie wants in the whole world is to see Buck hurt again. "Tommy, come on, Buck is great. He's amazing. There's not a thing about him to not like."
Tommy scoffs, "Believe me, Eddie, I know that."
"So then what's wrong?"
"Eddie, seriously?" Tommy rolls his eyes. "I can't keep dating him and ignore...whatever it is you two have going on. I like Buck, a lot, I do but, there is clearly something between the two of you."
Eddie lets out a small laugh of disbelief. "Tommy," he says, grinning, trying to find his footing in this conversation. The rug has been swept out from under him. Him? And Buck? No way. "He's my best friend. That's all."
"You know Eddie," Tommy rolls his eyes, walking past him now. "I know everyone is a bit of an idiot with love, but you're acting obtuse purposely."
Eddie turns around and follows, "Hey," he snaps. "I'm sorry if we're too close for you to handle, but I'm not going to apologize for being his best friend."
"I don't want you to Eddie, really, I don't. But you should both take your head out of your asses so that you can stop hurting other people."
That stops Eddie from making a retort.
Tommy picks up his pace as he walks over to unlock his door, as though he can escape Eddie and erase the fact that he is also driving Eddie home. That they are going to have to share a space for twenty minutes before Eddie can leave and be alone, and send Tommy on his way to break his best friend’s heart.
Does Eddie love Buck?
Of course.
Buck is his best friend. Why wouldn’t he love him? How could he not? Buck is beautiful, and kind, takes care of his son, and has been there for Eddie since the day that they met. Buck is honest and hopeful, Buck is tender and funny, he is knowledgeable and earnest. He’s the best friend anyone could ever ask for. Eddie knows all this, and of course he loves him for it.
But that doesn’t mean he’s in love with him…does it?
***
“Thank you so much for helping me Eddie,” Maddie sighs as they walk into her house, Eddie with boxes stacked in his arms. He doesn’t even know what’s inside them - Maddie needed help, so he agreed.
“Sure thing,” he kicks the door shut and follows her to the kitchen, gently laying the boxes on the table. “Here’s okay?”
“Perfect,” she rubs his back. “Want some coffee? You’re welcome to stay for a while.”
“Coffee sounds great, thanks,” Eddie nods, watching her move around her kitchen. He feels a little awkward–he likes Maddie just fine, but really, he hasn’t spent too much time with her, so he isn’t sure where to strike conversation. They already spent an hour talking about kids in his truck, he feels like he’s used Christopher enough.
“So,” she says, tone careful and light, prepping mugs. “Did Buck tell you about Tommy?”
“Yeah, he did.” Eddie murmurs, Tommy and Buck broke up three days ago. Eddie listened to Buck tell the story, and hugged him tight. He gave him beer, ordered him food, and let Buck stay over for the night so he wouldn’t have to be alone.
At least you’re always going to be here, Eddie, right?
Nowhere else I’d rather be, Buck.
Eddie broke up with Marisol a day later. He has tried not to think too hard about why that is but…he has spent the last three days thinking about what Tommy has said.
Eddie clears his throat. “It sucks, I thought this would work out for Buck for sure.”
Maddie sighs sadly, starting to prepare the coffee for them, before she turns around and gazes at him fondly. “I already knew it wouldn’t.” When Eddie just continues to look at her, she rolls her eyes and smiles. “Eddie, come on.”
“What?” he asks.
“Seriously? You’re going to make me spell it out for you?”
He feels his heart skip a beat, understanding dawning on him. “Maddie,” he shakes his head with a small laugh, although what he wants is to run in the other fucking direction. “Listen-”
“All I do is listen, Eddie. I listen to my brother talk about you like you hung the sun in the sky. I listen to him complain when he can’t see you and Chris. I listen to him talk about everything you do for him, everything you say to him.”
“He’s my best friend,” Eddie says, feeling cornered.
“I know that I really do. And maybe I’m wrong, maybe I don’t know you as well as I think I do but…I know my brother. It could have never worked with Tommy, because he was too busy being in love with you.”
“Maddie-”
“Hey, maybe I’m wrong,” she says, pouring their coffee. Why do these things never happen when he’s about to leave? “But look into his eyes Eddie, and you’ll see it. Promise me.”
Eddie doesn’t know what to do.
A little part of him admits that he’s afraid to look. Afraid of what he’ll find.
“Maddie,” he says softly. “He’s my best friend.”
“Eddie.” she sighs. “You look at Buck the way I look at Chimney. The way Karen looks at Hen. The way Bobby looks at Athena. This is so far beyond what you think it is. Promise me you’ll think about it.”
“I promise.”
***
Eddie thinks about it all the way to Buck’s house.
He thinks about his life, about what makes sense, about his son, and what makes sense in his son’s life. He thinks about the obvious - is he happier when Buck is around? Yes. Did he like Marisol? Not really. Was that because of Buck? He doesn’t know.
Does he miss Buck when he’s not there? Yes.
Does he think Buck makes him a better person? Yes.
Does he love Buck? Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
He makes it to Buck’s apartment and knocks on the door. It opens a moment later.
Look into his eyes, Eddie.
Eddie looks.
Buck smiles, bright as a thousand suns. Just because Eddie thought to come over, to just spend time with him.
Buck’s eyes sparkle – there is love there, warmth, undying devotion.
Eddie, finally, can see.
“Can I come in?” Eddie asks.
Buck steps aside, and Eddie takes the first step into the rest of his life.

I'm a simple person. I just need Buck to get kidnapped and Eddie to go all Staff Sergeant Diaz on everyone trying to figure out where his man is. And then at the end he loses it because he needs to find Buck and he's not getting closer and he's not Staff Sergeant Diaz anymore but just Eds. (Bonus if fighter Eddie era makes a show)
Anyone seeing this: you have my full permission to write this as a story (let me know tho cause I NEED to read this)

Sometimes, I think about how Eddie must have revealed who Shannon was to Buck/Chim after he left the locker room.
Like, I feel like he'd only told Carla that they were still married, so no one else in this new circle knew.
Because when Buck & Chim go to get Maddie a tree, Buck knows that she's Eddie's wife, not ex-wife like Carla assumed.
So, he at some point dropped that not only was that Christopher's mother, that he's still married. But like when? And how? I have so many ideas. It was probably just so casual too.
Anyway fic writers take it as a prompt if you want. Also, if it's been done, share the fics in the comments.
Also, I love Buck's bewilderment as he realises Eddie (actively) has sex (you also can't tell me he's not visualising Eddie having sex with a woman) and Chimney's "did we know this?" look to Buck.

Buddie or Tuck:
“Theeeere you are. Hi. Welcome back.”
He’s in the hospital. He knows he is. He’s been here enough times to recognize the antiseptic smell, that annoying ass beeping, and the slight chill in the air.
He doesn’t want to open up his eyes. His whole body aches, especially his throat and his lungs. Guess the whole dream he had about a patient choking him out wasn’t a dream, and he’s going to lay here, fake sleeping mortified, until he can’t anymore.
Or not.
He shifts a moment in his bed, because he’s really uncomfortable, and the movement tears a whine out of his bruised throat, which quickly turns into a sob.
There’s a flurry of movement beside his beside and hands he recognizes but can’t place at this moment run through his hair and cup his face.
“Hey Evan, come on, baby, open your eyes.” Evan. Evan. Tommy. Tommy is there, and Buck’s eyes slowly open to gaze at him. “There you are. Hi, welcome back.”
“Wha-“
“Don’t try to talk. The guy did a number on your throat, but it’s okay. You’re okay. They say there’s no damage, you’re just gonna be sore for a while.”
“Hm,” Buck mumbles, his eyes slipping shut again as Tommy scratches at the back of his head. “Sleepy.”
“Go to sleep, baby, I’ll be right here.”
“Stay?”
“Always.”

On one starry night in Pennsylvania, Maddie Buckley and her brother Daniel, met a boy who brought them on the most marvelous adventures. With just a bit of faerie dust and happy thoughts, they fly out of their bedroom following the little boy called Buck.
The three of them go on grand adventures from mermaids to pirates, flying to swimming. The magical young Buck is fearless and happy to find these friends hoping they’d stay with him forever.
The dream doesn’t last - there’s no mistaking the rattling cough that shakes Daniel’s body and the concerned furrow of Maddie’s brow.
Daniel needs help that he can’t get in Neverland.
In the days and weeks following their adventure in Neverland, Buck periodically visits his new friends.
Until one day, there was only Maddie.
Being an ever loyal friend to the Buckley children, Buck decides to keep a close eye on Maddie through her heartbreak.
A month after Daniel’s death, Buck discovers that he can no longer fly without Tink’s help.
Two months after, the boy who never wanted to grow up decides he must … for the boy who never got the chance.
Or;
Buck is Peter Pan AU - he’s not actually Maddie’s brother but they’ve been so close since Daniel’s death, they might as well be. Buck still goes on his travels and it’s less about running away and more about discovering everything he stopped himself from wanting. He still writes postcards to Maddie about his adventures; Maddie still marries Doug; they both still end up in LA; Buck still is fired and rehired by Bobby - after so many years of being a boy it takes him a hot minute for adulthood and maturity to sink in
The only difference really is that Buck has more fantastical stories to tell Christopher and Jee-Yun. He’s a bit more fearless and that much more brave.
Sometimes he’ll think of about Tink and the rest at pixie hollow, wonder how the mermaids are doing, imagine the taste of the feasts he’d have in Neverland. But then he’ll look around at a gathering at Bobby’s with the 118 and be so grateful for the life that he’s been given.
Peter Pan quotes for inspiration under the cut ;)
“Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.”
“All children, except one, grow up.”
"To die will be an awfully big adventure.”

I’m thinking (I’m already doing it) of pulling a Buddie prompt list together based on quotes that could spark a Buddie connection or just inspire a Buddie fic. Quoted from the show, since I seem to have already done a few. I’m looking up Buck quotes now and then Eddie quotes, quotes from other characters about Buck and Eddie, etc. Also, might restart my rewatch (again) to pull quotes as I watch.
If you have a quote you would like see turn into a Buddie moment, feel free to send it! Let me know if you’d like it to be an established relationship or not if you have a preference.

WHAT IF WHAT IF WHAT IF
Eddie had to do CPR and it worked this time. He was able to save someone he loved this time, the car didn't take them.
Eddie had been in love with Shannon once, and he still loved her when he watched her die, and Eddie had been so helpless then.
But not tonight, he thought determinedly as he pushed his arms to work on Buck's sternum, willing for the other man to just take a breath.
"He got a pulse!" Someone shouted, probably Hen.
And Eddie, he still felt helpless anyway as they whisked Buck away.
Helplessly in love with his best friend.

Should there be a Buck intervention?
It probably wouldn’t be right for the show, but I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a intervention with Buck. The firefam (mostly Bobby, Maddie, and Eddie) sees what is happening to Buck and is afraid to say anything besides “you died”. They thought he would get it, but they see his relationship with Natalia and realize that their son/brother/best friend ‘aka soulmate” is not accepting what happened to him, etc... and they develop a intervention for Buck. It could take everybody to tell Buck how much they love him to make him “wake up” and accept what happened and to finally live. Could it take Christopher to finally wake him up from this regression?
This is just me rambling.
Also, this could be prompt/fic idea. If anybody is interested.

HAPPY FRIDAY, LOVE! CAN I SEND YOU A PROMPT? :D
Buck/Tommy -- the (4th?) date moment where Buck (maybe accidentally) lets it slip to Tommy that he's really kinda obsessed with the cleft chin (and what happens after).
GIVE ME GRACE I RARELY WRITE IN BUCK'S POV .. eep
Tommy is talking about something, but in all honesty, Buck isn't paying attention.
It's not his fault, it's really, really not. He's just a man, after all. He can't help it.
Tommy is just...so fucking cute.
He's hot, too, holy hell, is he hot. From how he can easily pick Buck up against the wall when they're kissing heavily, to when he manhandles Buck on the couch as they rearrange themselves to make out (there's been a lot of that lately, now that Buck has been feeling a little braver about asking for more), but Tommy is also cute. Buck has noticed how gentle he is with him, how careful, how much he doesn't push, always waits on Buck.
But what Buck thinks is the cutest is his cleft chin. And that's what he's staring at when Tommy sighs in exasperation.
"That's it," he sighs, shaking his head as he leans back in his seat. "What is it? Do I have something in my teeth?"
"W-what?" Buck asked, a dopey smile over his features.
"You're staring, and not in the usual way that I like. You look like you want to laugh."
"Laugh, oh...no, Tommy, no." But Buck does chuckle, and then clears his throat. "Sorry, no. I was just staring cause uh...it's kind of embarrassing."
Tommy gives him that look - the one he gives Buck when he's saying a million different things instead of the one thing he wants to say. "So...I do have something in my teeth?"
"No, embarrassing for me." Buck leans forward a little, and Tommy follows. "I'm uh, kind of obsessed with your chin."
"My--what?" Tommy asks, eyebrows raised.
"I know, I know, every time we go on a date you find out something new and ridiculous about me. It's just...I don't know, really cute. On you, specifically. I, uh..." he brings a hand up tentatively, and grabs Tommy's chin, pressing his thumb right in the middle as his index finger hooks it from behind. "Kinda am always thinking about doing that."
Tommy smiles - it's very large, very bright, Buck likes that a lot as well. He can't remember the last time someone he was dating looked at him like that.
"Or..." Buck's own smile gets wider. "Kissing it. Is-is that weird?"
Tommy grabs Buck's hand but only so he can kiss it. "No. You're not weird or ridiculous, Evan. In fact, you're stupidly adorable."
"Oh yeah?" he tilts his head. "I'm glad that my ridiculousness is working out for me then."
Tommy chuckles affectionately, kissing his hand again, before letting go. Buck takes a moment to squeeze his chin playfully with a loud laugh as Tommy lets him with an equally lighthearted roll of his eyes.
"Anything else you're always thinking about doing, Evan?" Tommy asks, taking a sip of his beer, smiling over it.
Not for the first time, Buck is stunned by the fact that Tommy is so smooth - he doesn't remember ever being someone who fumbles on dates. But now he is (and he doesn't mind it one bit).
"Uh, sure. Yeah. Plenty." he breathes.
"So, wanna get out of here then?" he asks, already getting up and leaving his money in the chequebook on the table.
"Definitely. Yes, definitely." He pushes away from the table without grace, noisy and nervous - the good kind, always the good kind lately. As he stands up, Tommy gets in his bubble, a hand on his waist as he kisses Buck's cheek with a smile.
Buck grabs Tommy by his chin, and right there in the restaurant, with his thumb tucked into the middle, he leans forward and kisses him, right on the lips.

I am in the middle of MULTIPLE fics. Yet as I'm rewatching 4x14 my brain goes... what if Buck was shot while climbing the crane?
I don't have time to write that. Does anyone know any fics with that. OR EVEN BETTER: can someone write that 👀👀

So I was catching up on 9-1-1 and I couldn’t help but wonder if there’s some like, lingering trauma with Buck being a sperm donor. Like there’s probably a part of him still trying to be a good person and insecurities and all that, but I was more thinking of how his parents revealed he was supposed to be able to give his brother a bone marrow transplant, and failed in saving him.
Like, I’m just curious if any of that is carrying over. Does some part of him subconsciously think that’s the only way he can do good? By literally giving parts of himself?
If someone could write a fanfic on that Id really like to read their take on it. Or really any kind of idea off of this. Otherwise I’m just sharing thoughts.

118 - body swap au
Buck - Eddie - moves his - Eddie's - hand very, very, slowly to ease the truck into park. Today is just... He's still partially convinced he's dreaming. Or in a coma. Or dead. It's just... It's too weird to think that he and Eddie have actually switched bodies due to a witch's curse.
"Ok." Eddie says, but its Buck's voice, and that sounds so strange to Buck's borrowed ears. "Let's just get Christopher, hopefully and go home."
"You're taking this a lot better than I thought you would." Buck can't help but saying that aloud, and damn, Eddie's voice saying the words he's been thinking? Somehow actually not as weird as hearing his own voice.
Eddie scoffs, and Buck watches his own mouth curl upwards in an amused grin.
"Yeah well, I'm still convinced we were drugged again and we're both high."

They don’t talk about it.
Sure, it was all on their minds when the shooter was lose - more so the thought of themselves or their teammates getting shot and less so of how the 136 got eddie to the hospital so fast after being shot.
Bobby was focused on protecting his team from further harm, and then focused on recovery
Hen was busy studying. Chimney was focused on Maddie. Eddie was acting like nothing had happened (some days Buck wonders if he remembers anything about that day besides waking up in the hospital).
And Buck? Buck has been focused on being fine. Everyone else seems fine. He wasn’t even the one who got shot.
Except, no one truly knows what went down between Eddie and Buck responding to the call to ending up in the hospital waiting room. Or the extent of how much Buck is ignoring and pretending everything’s fine.
Or; no one at the 118 knows that Buck went into the line of fire and got eddie from bleeding out. That is until bodycam footage is leaked showing an up close version of events (even inside the firetruck during triage??) that bring the traumatic event into the public eye

Fanfic idea: Buck has an twin sister, but they look exactly the same, like if Buck grew his hair, shaved and put on make up, they would look the same. So imagine she was also a firefighter with the 118, but they didn’t tell anyone they were related (she could have a different last name because she was/is married, or something) and everyone is like: “wow you look so similar” and they just keep confusing people in very different ways. Like she’ll just see Buck for the “first time” and just say something so random, but also so specific that only someone who knew him would know it. And everyone asks like, so you know each other, but they just keep saying no. I just think this would absolutely hilarious if it’s done right.
I may write a fic like this, my Ao3 is Rainbowblob
