My 2023 AO3 wrapped

Looking back over my writing in 2023, I can say that I've had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed myself and it seems like those reading my work do too. Thank you everyone who left comments, they really brighten up my day every time I get one, and those who left kudos too.

The word count is a bit off on this, I have approx 100 - 150k more written but haven't posted yet as it's mostly from two long fic that I won't start to post until they're finished (werewolf AU & Seal!Buck for those following along). I also have a few more shorter incomplete fics and partial chapters for my incomplete WIP's that I will finish one day!

Phoenix, Rising is my favourite fic this year because it challenged me the most. I wanted to see if I could write about a well liked, kind and caring character making a life altering mistake and hurting someone he cares about deeply; and what would happen after that. Could I write it in such a way as to not villainise him for his action? It was very difficult emotionally and mentally and I think I achieved my goal. 2023 for me finished with gastro, ED visit, more gastro, another ED visit, correct diagnosis of the gastro as appendicitis while also ill with influenza A followed by emergency surgery. Recovery during a heatwave followed by a tornado on Christmas Day night and then several days without power then followed by 3 months of rain in 2 days starting on NYE, resulting in widespread flooding and the second disaster declared in our region in 7 days. December was not fun for me at all, friends, and there was very little writing done, sadly. But! Tomorrow hubby and I are off to Tasmania for our first holiday alone together since we had kids. I am very excited and I just know I'll return rested and refreshed and ready to get back into writing once more.

3) What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

I think I am most proud of "You Went And Saved the Best for Last" which is in the KinnPorsche fandom. I made all these allusions to Jane Austen's Emma (also Clueless) and I really liked how it came out.

13) What is your longest work this year?

So sorry - both of these are KinnPorsche (and I know you haven't seen it). It was called Talk to Him and it was 51,641 words. I 27) have no idea how I managed to write something this long this year!!

27) I'm so sorry - this will be a boring answer. I don't really listen to music when I write. Unless the fic has a line from a song and the song is really integral to the fic (like I wrote a KPTS fic called "Common People" that was completely inspired by the song by Pulp) I don't really listen to anything.

27 - What do I listen to while writing?

Nothing usually. I'm not fond of headphones or earbuds and while I used to have a little stereo, it died of age a while back and I haven't replaced it.

29 - Favorite line/passage I wrote this year?

That would be from my 'Skyfall without Bond' story https://archiveofourown.org/works/49862728 "I Do Not Have a Clean Shot":

Silva or Rodriguez, whatever he calls himself, has one of M’s arms twisted behind her and holds a gun to her head.

Eve hesitates.

M looks her dead in the eye and orders, “Take the bloody shot.”

30 - Biggest surprise while writing this year?

I wrote a 200 word SPECTRE fix-it for 007 fest, https://archiveofourown.org/works/49022593, "You Rebuilt My Car" that and continues to get reblogs here and kudos on AO3.

13. What’s your longest work of the year?

My longest fic this year is Scooby Doo and the Mystery Ghoul, my Scooby Doo/Ghost crossover fic :D That was my first ghost fic and it was so much fun to do! I'll put the link here X

14. What’s your shortest work of the year?

I had a lot of short fics that are all under Life in the Abbey, but I think the shortest one that's a standalone fic is Just a Little Harder, a spicy Dracopia fic :3

27. What do you listen to while writing?

Most of the time, I'm doing my writing in a coffee shop so I'm listening to whatever they're playing over the radio. when I write at home, I'm usually listening to those lofi hiphop videos.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

I really enjoyed writing the last part of Scooby Doo and the Mystery Ghoul where Copia sings the Scooby Doo theme song :D

favorite title (for a work or chapter)

I’m terrible with titles, so I usually choose something simple or just something that reminds me of something else. Like a song lyrics. This year my favorite title from my works was “An Offer From A Gangster”. I wanted to read the Bridgerton book series (still didn’t do it), and the book 3 title, “An Offer From A Gentleman” kind of stuck in my head? And in that fic, Jaeho makes Hyunsoo an offer so I thought it was a brilliant idea for the title 🤣

what relationship are you excited to explore next year?

I would love to write more Kill Boksoon! I have an idea for a Mantis and Minkyu continuation!

Also, I have some ideas for D.P. fics, about Hoyeol and Junho after they met again after the military.

There are some other ships I like and I thought about exploring, like Sieun x Suho from Weak Hero or Hyunsoo x Eunhyuk from Sweet Home (still haven’t watched season 2 yet, didn’t have time 😭).

And of course, I have to finish The Merciless fics. I have a lot of WIPs with them. Thinking of Jaeho and Hyunsoo still breaks my heart. I need them in love and happy (and a bit smutty).

"Don't sniff me," scolded Hyunsoo, mostly because he was a mess of sweat, tears, and few other fluids, while Jaeho looked much more composed, "You said I can use what I find when showering." "I'm not accusing you of anything. Stating a fact," laughed Jaeho, breathing in, "I like it a lot. Almost like you're mine.

From “Mantis”, Cha Minkyu x Mantis from Kill Boksoon "I can be whoever you want me to be," he whispered, leaning down to his boss' neck, "I can be Mantis," he said nipping at the skin in front of him, "I can be Minhee," he added and he just knew that the man rolled his eyes at that, "Or," he said leaning to Minkyu's ear, letting a warm puff of breath into it, "I can even be Boksoon."

From unpublished “Untitled 1”, Han Jaeho x Jo Hyunsoo from The Merciless And there he was, Jaeho, like a king and ruler, sitting in the middle of the big, white sofa illuminated by the club's colorful lights. But he was not alone. Hyunsoo paused in his tracks. There was some brat with him. Maybe ‘brat’ would be going a bit over the top because he could be around Hyunsoo’s age. Even if he looked younger. It could be because of his platinum, blonde hair and the glittery loose shirt that fell off his shoulder. He was also rather slim and delicate looking. Hyunsoo couldn’t see his face because the shithead was busy sitting on Jaeho’s lap and sucking on the skin under the older man’s jaw. And his fucking hand was on Jaeho’s belt. Hyunsoo saw red.

From unpublished “Untitled 2”, Han Jaeho x Jo Hyunsoo from The Merciless He was about to close the bar and go to the tiny apartament he bought not so far away from the bar. He had a few cans of beer and there was probably some replay of a baseball game on TV. All that was left was to lock everything and he was off. However, there was a loud thud on the doors before they opened and somebody stumbled inside. And Jaeho’s breath got caught in his throat. Because he would recognize that someone anywhere. His thoughts went back to him at random moments during the day and he dreamt of him during the night. Of all the bars in all the towns in all the world, he had to walk into Jaeho’s.

From unpublished "Late Night Talks", An Junho x Han Hoyeol from D.P. “Don’t worry, I don’t kick,” hummed Corporal Han finally after turning his back to Junho, “I may steal the sheets though. I get cold easily.”

From unpublished "Untitled 3", An Junho x Han Hoyeol from D.P. Hoyeol lay a bit further away respecting the boundaries. His dog had none of his subtlety because he had his head in Junho's lap. Hoyeol would be jealous if that didn't create such a cute picture.

biggest surprise while writing this year?

This year I discovered that I actually get more inspired when write outside? Like in the malls or coffee shops. Also writing to people “I’m going to write” usually helps me to motivate myself. Mostly @daxianme and @yardmargs have to listen to it. I’m thankful that they're so supportive.

bts with the writer I want to add

Fic I had the most fun writing was probably "Counting Down The Days". I really wanted to write Hyunsoo perspective that reflects Jaeho. Glad it worked out 😁

In December I want to publish one more fic. I started writing it in December 2022, inspired by the Christmas spirit. Unfortunately, I forgot about it during summer. Now I found it again and I'm working on finishing it. It's about Jaeho and Hyunsoo spending Christmas together.

Hmmm. Maybe also a bit of statistics? I like statistics.

This year I wrote only 4 fics but all together they had more words (25,616 words) then all the ones I published in 2022 (23,342 words). I noticed that I actually plan more plot and write longer things. I’m happy about it :D

hi friend, much love for sending these asks ❤️❤️ i enthusiastically talked about the character who's giving me the most trouble (kang isaac in my money lender au) and the WIPs i'm taking into 2024 (money lender au, sex tape, elevator troubles) here, so --

i'm going to let you in on a little secret: i have a new mini-story in the works. angsty. more esoteric than anything i have written thus far. plotwise, it's all done. i just have to rewrite it.

the summary goes like this:

instead of k, it's gaon who jung sunah lures to the abandoned warehouse. she doesn't kill him. no, she does something almost worse.

They commented on the maleo tumblr ficlet and I loved it and asked if I could use it for titling the posted fic. Mostly, I hate coming up with titles 😅

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

While I have a bunch of wips scattered around, as one does, I am not actively working on one atm. So, as of right now, there isn't a single one that I feel like I am taking to next year.

16. What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?

For this year, "humiliation", "pwp" and "sub Scott Mccall" tie at 7 each. My overall highest additional tag is: "angst".

Hey! 10, 19, 30 for the ask game🙃

Hey! 10 - What work was the quickest to write? This is not that easy to answer, but maybe Winner's Choice, my very first Ilya Rozanov/Shane Hollander fic from the book Heated Rivalry. I wrote it after a huge slump and then I started this fic and suddenly the words started to flow again and it felt SO good.

19 - What's one pairing you want to explore next year? I definitely want to write a lot more for Hollanov (Ilya/Shane), I have quite a few ideas. In general I want to write more hockey related fics, let's see about the pairing(s) and in which direction that might go.

30 - biggest surprise while writing this year? How much I love hockey as a sport and how easy it is to get into it, also with all the terms - but there are still a lot of things I have to learn about how the sport in the different leauges works. And on the embarassing side: Apparently there exists something like em dashes, I honestly didn't know it was a thing I should use instead of a hyphen 😂

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Well not any one specifically but my most commented work on A03 was my oneshots collection from Weems x Thornhill x reader.

But the one that surprised me was probs how many people loved “wheezy winters” (700 notes!!!)

10. What work was the quickest to write?

I usually don’t time them but if i had to guess id say “nosebleed” (1.2K) id say about 15-20mins. I can type abnormally fast it’s why I usually post a lot (unless i have writer block / don’t have time / not motivated).

12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

Ummm… again i plan nothing i am a creature of chaos. But in terms of random dot points of 3am ideas in my notes app … 113. But i may combine some of those ideas and that Includes my requests which i have planned. Thats also for all fandoms i write for and a couple other fandoms ive written for but not posted.

27. What do you listen to while writing?

TBH nothing specific just a lot of random music. Top artists are probs Eminem, bo burnam, Coldplay, Katy Perry, fall out boy, green day, panic at the disco, imagine dragons, hilltop hoods etc. basically everything haha.

Either back to the start (Star Trek Discovery, Laira gets stuck in a time loop and uses her politician speech giving skills to remember enough science to help everyone else break it, not without a sneaky time loop kiss(tm)).

I remember this one was going to be a drabble and it kept going and got kind of fun and poetic. Also fun, because like Jack, she is bad at science and surrounded by people good at science, which makes her adorable.

Or it's you will be mentioned in their biographies (Star Trek Discovery, Charles Vance, the lonely admira muses on how Michael is one of those captains who moves the universe around her and how Laira is a historic leader and they get married.)

It's in second person, it was written in like an hour in the middle of the night and it got me out of a no writing funk. It is wonderful and odd and also that odd poetic feeling. That seems to go with my fast things.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

I wrote Beverly/Jean-Luc. (he can't be here) I haven't written them since 2011, but Beverly was injuried in Picard s3 and that...is catnip, really. I love her. Seeing her was great and I had thoughts and...I did not get the hurt comfort I wanted, (or really much of anything that I wanted form Picard) BUT the fic is decent.

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Sixty Seconds hands fucking down. I wrote in ... two nights? I think? And it wasn't beta'd. And it was so simple, and very very short, and I just absolutely didn't expect it to make the impact that it did. (I really had no idea if it was any good) The engagement was so so great, literally the excitement I had posting that fic was second to none. Just love it. I gave you hugs with that fic and you gave them right back.

12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

I actually keep most of my WIPs in my brain until they finally explode out of me. The number of active WIPs that I actually intend to make good on? Pretty damn low. Like ... if we're being honest ... two. Definitely A Mild Case of Madness, but I am hoping that fic won't actually come out next year. I'm going to try and get it before the new year, but who knows tbh. A major fic I haven't written a word for is my Stardust AU - I have planned it a lot, tho. I don't think @cutestkilla would forgive me if I didn't eventually write the damn thing.

27. What do you listen to while writing?

Predominately chill, sad music. I listen to a lot of purely piano music because it doesn't distract my brain too much. I mostly listen to my fic playlists while planning, but then do the actual writing in silence. Here's a few of my major fic playlists. The last playlist (The Dwindling Pines) is actually the second of my two actual, real WIPs which I have posted almost nothing about.

15: What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

I’m currently working on a story for @the-elle-kat where Tony and Stephen are in an Established relationship when the Battle of New York happens…and Tony doesn’t make it back through the wormhole. We then see Stephen dealing with his grief, while dealing with canon Marvel events (car accident, becoming a sorcerer) and one day, years later, Stephen opens a portal…..and Tony falls through it.

I'm about 25k in and I’m hoping to have it finished by the end of January 💖💖

28: Favorite work you wrote this year?

Betwixt! It was a story I’d been itching to write for months and I was beyond ecstatic when @renlybaratheon-tyrell fell in love with the idea too. The back and forth between us definitely kept the creative fire stoked and I had the best experience writing it! It was a lot of fun, and I hope that my love for the story shines through!

Honorable mention: Overbearing I had quite a lot of fun writing this little snippet!

17. Your favorite character to write this year?

LOL, if you'd asked me this question two weeks ago, the answer would've been quite different! It probably would've been Lucy, because I feel very fiercely about her, and her complexity, and wanting to give her All the Good Things. I want to give her the world, and I love how writing her has given me the unexpected gift of thinking about how other characters, relationships, and events could shift.

With Simon and Baz, we get a wealth of material to work with for their characterization, and with Lucy, I feel like I'm constantly mining - and (bless Rainbow) - finding gold.

Now, in a Jelly Babies world....... you are probably not surprised at all to hear that it's SWITHIN. He's just such a soft, pining boy, and I LOVE writing pining. He is thoughtful and introspective, and incredibly shy and sweet. He is just a gentle person, and I love protags like Anne in Persuasion who have subtle qualities and strengths.

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?

Probably The tears of Mummers House, because of the way it was written! I wrote "Tears" basically in a weekend (yeah, I have no idea how, the writing gods were very good to me), but with the posting schedule spread out over three weeks, I had a lot of time to edit. I am not usually the type of writer who puts in commas and takes them out and puts them back in, but that's what editing "Tears" was like. At the same time, I'm surprised that "Tears" didn't change drastically from the first draft to the last. I definitely tweaked a few tiny things to make them a bit more ow ow. 🙃

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

This one is super difficult, cause I like most of my fics. I think more recently, it would be Leave A Light On, mostly cause it's a bit different than my other fics, I introduce a new OC, and just packs an emotional wallop.

11. What work took you the longest to write?

If we are going WIP, it would be the big crossover. Started it in April and it's still a WIP. For published work, perhaps 'Some Ghosts Never Leave', mainly because the fic went in one direction all on its' own, and then I was like...should I go there? And what does it mean to the whole 'canon' if I do? Might still write some more in this 'spin-off', it's definitely an interesting what if.

17. Your favourite character to write this year?

I think we all know it's Hesh Walker. I started out really like Logan, and his relationships, but then switched to Hesh. Combination of the older brother, losing everyone, giving him a partner (Kick), it's been a fun rollar coaster!
