Lizzie wandered the earth looking for something. It was a strange feeling, to have no idea where you were going while following your heart wherever it brought you. Especially in lands that did not seem familiar at all.

She was familiar, to some. People stared at her dry pink locks and her torn white dress with a tremendous amount of expectation she could never live up to. They backed off as soon as they realized she wasn't who they thought she was, but the disappointment always stung. It was best to remove herself from situations like that, for everyone's benefit.

Her heart let her wander to where once was the ocean. People had to explain it to her; how can there even be so much water in one place? She pushed past it and ambled through the deserted streets of a colorful mesa kingdom, beautiful even in ruins, smashed terracotta hands and limbs and heads everywhere.

At the foot of a magnificent dead tree sat one of those terracotta people. On his knees, head bowed down, hands resting limply in his lap. It was a miracle the wind hadn't blown him over. A simple crown rested on his head and he wore the color of royalty. His eyes were not closed, but his gaze was empty. Deactivated.

Lizzie settled near this broken terracotta man - or clone, as passing survivors called it. It used to be a kingdom of clones, and it was no surprise a clone of the king found solace with the mother tree. When offered to come with them, Lizzie declined - she was staying here. Her heart had always told her to move, and now it told her to stay.

So she stayed. After the first nine years, she stopped counting. It made time pass by even faster - so fast she sometimes forgot herself, or her goals. With one glance at the clone she remembered she was supposed to be here.

One day, after what must've been many years, the clone moved. Rusty after staying still for so long, his eyes regained a spark of life and Lizzie watched curiously as the man came to life when his gaze met Lizzie's, he stared for more than a few seconds. Somehow, it didn't bother her.

"Lizzie…"

It didn't trigger memories so much as it unlocked some. Not all, but some. Small moments here and there, just enough to know who was sitting there and what he was supposed to mean to her.

"Joel."

He sprung up and wrapped her in a tight embrace, which she returned. Any hesitation washed away. Even though she still didn't remember most things, one thing was crystal clear to her: she loved this man, and this man loved her.
