-the age difference. He’s like 120 years older than her he’s a cradle robber

-are we forgetting that chapter where ailina was like “IS HE MY COUSIN” bc I’ll never forget

-he literally couldn’t care less for ailina unless she has her power

-he’s a power hungry brat in the most literal and metaphorical manner

-sure he may have started out w good intentions but he got warped

-he constantly manipulates and abuses those he considers lower than him

ex: what he did to genya is what really sold me on anti darklina. there is no way in which you place a child in a toxic environment and leave her there to grow up abused, ostracized, and RAPED. DAILY. just so you have a loyal servant in the long run (ahem anyone seeing toxic dumbledore parallels hahhahha)

Ex: attempting to do a similar thing by trying to isolate ailina from her grisha peers w fancy seating, wardrobe, and attention (it’s called grooming.)

Ex: raising zoya as a favorite because of her power and then immediately casting her aside once ailina walks in the frame (and then killing zoyas family????)

Ex: kissing ailina silent until she no longer remembered to express the questions and opinions he didn’t want to hear

Ex: murdering every parental figure ailina ever had and hanging them in a tree outside her childhood home and forcing her to look at them swinging in the breeze (is it any wonder she believed him when he said he’d murder the kids? Also, had they not been grisha, he WOULD HAVE MURDERED A BOAT FULL OF KIDS.)

-a control freak in the worst way. Genuinely cannot comprehend how people ship darklina based on the show when it clearly shows that he put a COLLAR. ON. HER. and took away her free will. And fully intended to keep her as a powerful puppet for the rest of her god forsaken life had she not broken free. No. That’s not love. There is no possible interpretation in which that is love. Love does not seek to own or control.

-is anyone gonna talk about how ailina thought mal came into her bedroom to kiss her n shit and IT WAS THE DARKLING DISGUISING HIMSELF AS MAL. SO MANY CONSENT ISSUES HERE.

-all in all. The darkling was based on an abusive ex. And it’s really clear how that inspiration sparked the character when you take a step back.

-he only knows power through fear. If you compare his approach to the decline of grisha: I.E. start a WAR. create the FOLD. and make it BIGGER to Nikolai’s attempts to preserve the grisha; I.E. create weaponry that can only be used if first and second armies work together, sending out spies to collect grisha in dangerous countries/situations, attempting to integrate grisha into society: you can clearly see which is a long term solution and one that provides a better solution to “the decline of grisha”

-I could go into a whole nother rant about darkling vs Nikolai bc clearly the darkling isn’t smart. His power made him settle—Nikolai is constantly striving and learning and INVENTING which given by how fabrikators wernt allowed in combat, is clearly not something the darkling saw as a strength/power lmk if anyone’s interested in that lol

OC dump 2 shameless boogaloo

Setting: in this weird fantasy world (or, you know, set of worlds) I wrote about having made up a bit ago. Vibe: Idunno, man. Fantasy world? Steampunk in some places and swords-and-sorcery in others? Also it's fucked up as hell and half the characters commit war crimes, cos I'm me, you really shouldn't be surprised at this point. (They're also a pack of queers. Shocker.) OK, BLORBO TIEM: in order of appearance/reference, at least in the current draft.

Liyanei Lazhel (aka Ailina Yara) (she/her, 18 at start of story): A murderer, drug addict, polyglot, and sister. She doesn't think she's had other choices if she wanted to survive. She may or may not be right. She may or may not get a chance to prove it, or prove she can do differently the next time.

Eimra Lazhel (she/her, 16): Liyanei's younger sister. A witch who shouldn't be where she is. A healer with unlikely fire magic. Fiercely principled but has never really had to lay down her life for them -- but Liyanei has never let her make that choice for herself so far.

Lady Kylit (she/her, 50something): A warlord and powerful witch in the midlands. Has some sort of agenda beyond kidnapping and enslaving children for her own gain, probably, or at least she did once. May or may not be still alive after an attack on her fortress.

Minishire Yatarel (he/him, 19/20): A witch raised to kill by Lady Kylit. A few years older than Liyanei. His relationship with her is... complex, toxic, manipulative, and utterly codependent. Also a drug addict. Opinions (of the characters) are mixed on whether he deserves a redemption arc. Probably won't get one anyways.

Maivra (Yatarel) (she/her, 18/19 at time of death): Minishire's twin sister. Dead before the story starts. She was as kind as her circumstances ever allowed her to be. The closest thing Liyanei had to a friend, back then.

Zoyel of the Lake (she/her, 38): An ex-nun/temple mage, current social worker. Physically disabled and dependent on people she'd prefer to avoid. Knew Eimra as a child. Absolutely wrecked by guilt for the same reason she's seen as a war hero by the folks in the city she finds herself in, and trying desperately to find a reason to continue living.

Karal Nayum (she/they, 17): Ok there's not much I can say about Karal that isn't a major spoiler. Sadly. (Karal is. My fave.) A dancer from the Colonies, beyond the Rim. Has a little bit of magic, but not much. An absolute sweetheart who isn't as naive as she appears. I can say that much. :D

Tarlane (Nayum?) (he/him, 35, trans): A dancer and a mage from the Colonies but not born there. Temple taught, but not affiliated. Karal's father, at least in some way. He's got some sort of secret he's trying to protect, but he is open, friendly, and kind regardless. Flirtatious as hell but not serious about it (unless you want him to be ;) ).

These are my Heavy Emotional Processing Comfort OCs. Don’t ask how long some of them have existed it makes me feel old ;3 But they finally have a coherent plot laid out now after [redacted] years, and I might even finish writing the story someday! Lol.

What did she know, when did she know it, and how could she not know? Six years after the Boston Marathon bombings, questions remain surrounding the role of Katherine Russell as a potential accomplice to the deadly crimes committed by Islamic extremists Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Katherine Russell (who sometimes went by her married name, Karima Tsarnaev) has never been charged in connection with the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing terrorist attacks, which killed three, resulted in 17 amputees, and wounded another 240 innocent people.

While the two perpetrators of the attacks have been brought to justice (with Tamerlan’s death and Dzhokhar currently locked up in a supermax prison), Russell has somehow escaped justice for potentially being an accomplice to a vicious Islamic terror attack on U.S. soil.

She who was born to a “tight-knit” Catholic family in Rhode Island, had excelled in school and enrolled in Suffolk University. Affectionately known to her friends simply as Katie, Russell was described as a popular, friendly person who had everything going for her.

Her life took a radical turn for the worst in 2009 after meeting Tamerlan Tsarnaev, a devout Muslim who would watch radical Islamic videos and generally hated what the United States stands for, according to a neighbor.

Russell converted to Islam in 2010 at the Masjid al Qur’aan in Boston. Later that year, she dropped out of college. She was rarely seen outside of the apartment (other than making her trips to and from work as a home health care assistant) she shared with her husband and young child, according to neighbors. This means that she was almost certainly present as her husband used their apartment (which was smaller than 800 square feet) to make pressure cooker bombs and watch radical jihadi videos.

Her defense team has framed her relationship with Tamerlan as an abusive one. They claim she worked tirelessly, and spent the rest of her time caring for their child and isolated from even the people inside her small home. They say she had no advanced knowledge of his plans.

However, there is more than just circumstantial evidence tying Russell to the terrorist act.

Months before the bombing, she conducted online searches on her Macbook computer for “wife of mujahedeen” and “If your husband becomes a Shahid, what are the rewards for you?” prosecutors said during the 2015 trial. Mujahedeen means people engaged in jihad, or Islamic holy war. A Shahid is a martyr for the religion of Islam.

Following the attacks, she seemed to justify the ruthless methods of her husband and brother-in-law, texting a friend: “Although a lot more people are killed every day in Syria and other places. Innocent people.”

She also retained radical Islamic propaganda videos on her personal computer, such as al Qaeda’s infamous “Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom” video that has provided bomb-making guidance for countless jihadis.

After the bombing, police sought out the help of the local Boston community to help find the suspects they had identified through grainy photos. When pictures of Tamerlan’s face had started to appear on television, Russell called him to inform him, according to police sources, who told The Weekly Standard at the time.

Russell was profiled as someone who was well aware of the planning stages of the attacks in the movie “Patriots Day,” the 2016 film about the Boston Marathon bombings. Her lawyers insist that it unfairly portrays their client, while the filmmakers stand by their research related to her role in the attack.

Since the terror attacks, Russell has jumped around from state to state. She first attempted to move back into her family home in Rhode Island. Although there were signs of initial reconciliation, the efforts to bring her back into the fold failed after she clashed with her family over her Islamic faith, according to one relative.

She found a better fit in the New Jersey home of her late husband’s sisters, Bella and Ailina Tsarnaev, the latter who appears to be a radical Islamist. In 2015, she told her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend that she knew people who could set off a bomb in her home.

Russell has since remarried and had another baby, Ailina Tsarnaev said.

It remains unclear whether prosecutors will ever decide to pursue charges against Russell. She has kept an extremely low profile over the past year. In September 2016, authorities wanted to question her with regard to Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s activities. Russell released a statement through her lawyers in September 2016.

“The injuries and loss of life – to people who came to celebrate a race and a holiday – has caused profound distress and sorrow to Katie and her family. The reports of involvement by her husband and brother-in-law came as an absolute shock to them all,” the statement said.

“Girls! Hurry up! We need to leave now!” Gavin called out to his daughters. 

Not long, quick thumping steps of the girls can be heard as they ran down the stairs. Gavin sighed at their antics and told them to wear their shoes as they got ready to leave home to meet Shaw. The girls were excited to meet their paternal uncle again. Unbeknownst to them, the said man was expecting them to give him a nickname just like they did for Kiro.

As the trio arrived at New Light Mall, they searched for the lavender-grey haired man. They spotted the man sitting at a fast food restaurant with his phone in hand. Gavin ushered his daughters to scare the hell out of their uncle. ‘Have a good scare, brother.’ Gavin grinned in his head. 

Alina and Aiyana grinned to each other and ran to their uncle from behind, 

“Uncle Shaaaawww!!!” They glomped on him, making him drop his phone on the table. 

What a girly scream ye got there, Shaw. 

Shaw looked behind him and saw his two nieces laughing. The man couldn’t help but laugh along as he placed a hand on Alina’s head. Gavin’s laugh was heard behind them. The older man took a seat opposite his brother. The girls released their uncle from their hold and took their places. 

Aiyana looked up to Shaw, “Uncle~ We gave a nickname to Uncle Kiro the other day!” 

Shaw’s smile twitched and it became crooked as he remembered the photo that Gavin sent him, “O-oh… Really? Wha-what did you both call him?” Alina grinned, “He’s now Uncle Chicken!!” 

Gavin snickered, knowing what his brother is currently thinking about. At the same time, Shaw chuckled at that nickname. He was aware that the girls used to call the blond ‘Uncle Chips’ but apparently it has finally been replaced. He played along, “Why did you call him ‘Chicken’?” 

“Mommy always fries or roasts chicken for uncle Kiro.” Aiyana said with a-matter-of-fact tone. 

“We also found mommy’s and uncle’s “Cursed Photo” of them wearing matching chicken onesies when they were younger.” Alina added.

“Uncle Kiro’s hair also looks like chick’s feather.” Aiyana unknowingly roasted (pun intended) her blond uncle.

Shaw cackled at those reasons. He couldn’t help but find them very amusing. Before he could speak, Gavin beats him to it. 

“So girls, any nicknames for your dear uncle Shaw?” Gavin sent a smirk to his brother. Shaw kicked his shin and sent a middle finger under the table. The sisters had a blank look on their faces and shook their head. 

“We didn’t think about it…” They said in unison.

The look of betrayal and disappointment had been slapped onto Shaw’s face. 

Aiyana tilted her head slightly and pondered. In a few minutes, she looked up, “How ‘bout… Uncle Stormy??” Referring to his evol. [Yes, Yuki and I spoiled more infos about him. :’) ]

Alina blinked and nodded in agreement, “It’s okay, but somehow the first thing popped  in my head was Uncle Sharky…” She turned away in embarrassment. 

Shaw had a kind smile (for once orz). He patted both of his nieces head playfully, “I don’t mind both of them. As long as it’s from the two of you.” 

Alina and Aiyana stared at him, “Uncle sounds so much like daddy for a moment….” 

“It’s a brothers thing, dearies.” Shaw shrugged. Gavin had his thousand yard look on his face. Feeling unimpressed. The girls just giggled at their similarities. 

Suddenly, growling stomach can be heard from Aiyana’s side. Alina turned to her father, “Daddy, Aiyana’s hungry again!”

Aiyana smirked at her older sister, “Daddy!! Alina’s hungry again!!” 

Gavin chuckled and stood up to order some food. Before he could leave, Shaw was already on his way to the kiosk. 

“My treat for today~!”
