Watching a Netflix show nowadays is like curling up next to a warm fire on a cold winter’s night and reading your new favorite book and just as you get to the good part someone walks past, yanks it out of your hands and throws it into the fire.

artists have "draw this in your style", i think fic authors should start doing "write this in your style" where a ton of people write the same prompt but all do their own lil interpretations and characterizations and fun dialogue bits etc

Just rewatched wakfu s1 again and like man Yugo is definitely up there as one of the most traumatised child protagonists.
Like s1 is wild. His dad is turned into a tree, and nearly dies, then his dad rapidly loses years off of his life span, his friends repeatedly get kidnapped and possessed, Amalia nearly dies, he finds out he might be the last of his species, then his dragon uncle (not rlly uncle but effectively) does actually die, he gets hunted down by a traumatised dog, has to fight on the frontlines of war (he’s twelve), and they actually lose and he and two of his friends die, but then someone rewound time so just far enough that only one of his friends are dead, and all he has to show for it is the worlds evillest cube which also made a man so crazy he killed thousands.

promised my baby @ghosts-cyphera i'd write some more vampire gaz and i couldn't get this first meeting out of my head
you met him at a house show, introduced to you through a friend of a friend. his costume for the halloween themed show was cheesy, but he did put in more effort than most of the guys in attendance. his dracula cape looked like it came from party city and the widows peak on his forehead was crudely drawn on. but what really caught your eyes were the fangs.
they didn't look like the bulky spirit halloween fangs that you would fit over your real teeth. they looked so natural, fit right in with the rest of his teeth perfectly. his smile was fucking gorgeous, you couldn't deny it. he was charming, his accent smooth and eye contact steady as he asked you questions about yourself, genuinely trying to get to know you. it caught you off guard a little bit, meeting someone wasn't really on your mind going into tonight but you weren't going to rebuff his attention.
when the music started you two ended up drifting away from each other. you joining your friends closer to the stage and him chatting with some people along the back wall. when your eyes finally met over the crowd, you have to tell yourself that the red eyes staring back at you must be a trick of the lights.

god i wish they hadn't retconned maul's death. i get wanting to explore more of his character because he was, objectively, one of the coolest star wars characters to ever hit the big screen and didn't get much screentime prior to his death, but also his role was fulfilled perfectly within those constraints so i wasn't too upset by it.
but by retconning it and making it so he never died it's like. okay. what now? the whole point (well, to me, ymmv of course) of the theed generator fight was that it was the first ever fight between the jedi and the sith in thousands of years, and that in the end even though the jedi (obi-wan) won the fight, a jedi (qui-gon) and a sith (maul) still died. a master and an apprentice dying together to herald the start of a new age/the return of the sith. perfectly paralleling the way in rotj a master (palps) and an apprentice (anakin/vader) died together to herald the return of the jedi. in both instances, a father figure (qui-gon/vader) dies in the arms of their son (obi-wan/luke) as a sith (palps/maul) is cast down into the abyss to their deaths. (palps being alive in the ST and retconning his death in rotj is also annoying for this reason)
i mean i like maul. don't get me wrong. he's an incredibly compelling character and i enjoy seeing more of him... but there's always the thought hovering in my mind like "he should be dead though. he should 100% be dead. this wouldn't be happening if he was dead, but i honestly would rather it not if it meant that maul was dead."
like the tpm fight just doesn't hit the same knowing that canonically he's just. going to become a robot octopus at some point. (shoutout to palps becoming sith glados in the ST) it cheapens the moment for me. it was supposed to be a moment of triumph marred by the deep and soul-crushing loss of a loved one and it's just... not, anymore. or at least not to the same extent. AUGH i'm just. frustrated. wish star wars as a whole wasn't constantly reframing/retconning what's been established. just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

The problem with adapting the "Foundation" novels was always going to be that Hollywood runs on individual heroism, whereas the thesis of the books is that history is primarily a deterministic, collective phenomenon. Having now watched the first season of David Goyer's version of the story, I would say that he's having some difficulty squaring that particular circle.

i am good at my job because i told my undergrads that they will almost inevitably put their thesis in the wrong place (usually the conclusion) and the first draft i'm looking at a student put their argument in the conclusion.

a list of motogpblr creators
Hello, I initially wanted to do this to celebrate some kind of milestone of mine but I have none of them in sight and I got the inspiration for this earlier this afternoon, so, here we are.
My memory is not the best and I tried to research stuff through my blog but I already know that I have forgotten people and I obviously don't know about everyone here, no matter how small motogpblr may seems to be, so, my apologies.
Just a quick thank you to everyone who uses some of their time to create for the fandom and also a thank you to people taking the time to interact (with likes, reblogs, comments) with the content created, it's always appreciated.

I'm fully convinced that if Hannibal and Clarice were on a road trip with her Mustang, our girlboss wouldn't let him take over the steering wheel for a second as it was stated in the books she's crazy for cars. Hannibal would just sit next to her studying maps while she's gleefully on a ride into the unknown.

Once again thinking about how canonically the Blip happened in October and TFaTWS began in March of the following year, meaning that there was a Christmas that took place between the two... how did Sam and Bucky spend it???
I'm certain Sam would have been in Delacroix, but talk about emotional whiplash: from his perspective, he's three months out from being on the run from the US government, and now he has to cope with the fact that he was gone for five years, and suddenly he's alive and free and supposed to be merry on top of all that?
And he's celebrating with two nephews he barely knows, who would've been babies or toddlers when he saw them last. Plus a sister who lost her husband -- we don't know exactly when, but it's reasonable to assume it was while Sam was on the run or snapped out of existence; she and Sam have their childhood in common, but Sam has been out of her life for years, and no matter how glad she is to have him back, there's got to be something fraught in their dynamic.
Does Sam wake up on Christmas morning and see the shield, and think about the Steve-shaped hole in his life? Does he spend the whole day celebrating and smiling and laughing and genuinely having a good time, even though part of him still feels like he's going to just disappear?
And does Sam text Bucky? Maybe he even tries calling him, because it's Christmas and even if Bucky has been ignoring him, he still feels bad that Bucky is alone?
(And Bucky is alone; he told Dr. Raynor that he was planning to get Chinese food and walk around the city, but when he hears his neighbors playing carols and laughing with their family, he decides to just stay in. Going out would mean being faced with all the celebrating, happy people, and that feels so inaccessible to him that he'd rather just avoid it altogether.)
(And he ignores Sam's call for the same reason: because he knows Sam will be able to hear how happy he isn't, and it wouldn't be fair for him to ruin Sam's Christmas like that.)
So Sam just hangs up and slips back in to rejoin the festivities, and he doesn't let anyone know that even though he wasn't expecting Bucky to answer, he's still kind of upset that he didn't get to talk to the one person who might understand the complicated shape of all the joy and the grief that he's feeling that day.
