As ganhadoras do “Best New Artist” do GRAMMY agora exploram uma nova jornada.
A composição da canção introdutória é um verdadeiro ponto forte, trechos como “After so much rain in the room maybe / A river of hurt may have formed and overflowed / And in the end, I couldn't even have realized that I was drowning” são excelentes.

☆ ALICIA’S MONTHLY MEDIA MENTIONS: June `22
hello! as promised, I’m back with another monthly media mentions post! June has been a bit of a crazy month - I got another job (which I actually like - hooray!), my grandma is staying over and needs taking care of, my sister crashed the car LMFAO, and I’ve just been trying to help out around the house a bit more. unfortunately I didn’t create as much art as I wanted to - most of my time was consumed editing that damn art critique video (like literal weeks). but, this is the media that got me through a tough month! cheers to another summer ☀️
Shows:
Umbrella Academy (season 3)
this show is so gd entertaining. I think I finished this season in 2 days? it was great! super fun scenes and special moments between characters. Robert Sheehan and Ritu Arya are perfect for their roles - Ritu especially is so charismatic and I hope to see her in more projects!
Street Woman Fighter
I'm not sure why I didn’t watch the episodes as they came out last year, but I’m so mad I didn’t! these ladies slay and I'm so happy that dancers have been getting more recognition through this show. I want Monica to be my mom and Lip J to be my auntie. everyone in this show is so COOL I can’t even describe how awestruck I am with them all. Aiki - give me one chance PLEASE
Haikyu!!
I've tried to watch this show a few times - with my sister, by myself, but for some reason or another did not continue watching it. I restarted it again because my lovely friend loves it and recommended I watch it - so I did :) it’s super cute and also has me missing my volleyball days >:(
Stranger Things (season 4)
I'm sure this has been on a lot of people’s watchlist - I actually wasn’t planning on watching this season, but saw the clip from that one scene in ep 4 and I changed my mind. Either this or season 3 has been the best so far, but I can’t say just yet because I’m still waiting on the second part! Sadie sink supremacy.
Music: (my Spotify June 2022 playlist)
YOUNG-LUV.COM - STAYC
I didn’t like RUN2U the first time I heard it, which is why it took me some time to listen to the album. but the STAYC girls don’t disappoint. I love the guitar and the feeling of nostalgia I get when I listen to YOUNG LUV. 247 and SAME SAME have lovely vocals. RUN2U is also growing on me, but I will say I do like their other title tracks better in comparison.
Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) - Kate Bush
I had kept getting recommended this song in my YouTube home page and later realized it was because it was featured in the best scene of Stranger Things ever. Lyrics hit, music hits. I want to listen to this as I sit and cry during blue hour.
According To You - Orianthi
COMPLETELY forgot about this song until recently. perfect for screaming the lyrics to because I still remember them all.
Run BTS - BTS
kind of gives Disney channel diss track, but slaps nonetheless!! oh how I missed listening to new BTS music. Rapline killed it!
Glimpse of Us - Joji
why does this man make such sad music. I'm so interested in how he shifted his career and image. another track I’d like to cry to. also, this music video has such a frightening, chaotic energy, but the way it progresses towards the climax of the song is surprisingly moving. 10/10
Eat You Up - BoA
this song is so gd fun to listen to. I was too young to get into Y2K era artists, but this song in particular brings its revival full force.
Better - BoA
if you couldn’t tell, this is because of Street Woman Fighter. you better than this, you better than this!
Childish Adult - Gummy
lately I’ve been into jazzier songs in general, and added this onto my playlist after watching Rihey singing it on Knowing Bros! idk how to describe it...but I feel grown listening to this song, which is kind of ironic haha
Youtube:
Megan Thee Stallion - Hot Girl Summer ft. Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign / Harimu Choreography
I am ENTRANCED with the way Harimu moves. she’s so fun and full of energy. she brings so much life to the choreography. I want to go clubbing with her.
TWICE "What is Love?" M/V
can you believe i’ve never watched the What is Love mv? it’s literally my favourite twice song, too... for some reason when I listen to this song (and other Twice songs) I cry...? but out of happiness...? anyways, I realized I never even watched the mv so I did. amazing. fantastic. life-changing. genuinely think this was the inspiration for thank you, next and that one opening scene in euphoria season 2. What is Love is phenomenal. jihyo’s bridge brings me to tears.
COUPLE DANCE BATTLE - Noze Leejung x Rihey Honey J | KNOWING BROTHER ep 308
as per my recent obsession with Street Woman Fighter, I’ve been watching some other content with the dancers! Rihey slays so hard in this video and I wish I was half as cool as her. If you’re going to watch any video from this list please watch this one. Also knowing Rihey won every single one of her no-respect battles in Street Woman Fighter??? GIMME THAT FOOTAGE DAMN
Nothing on Leejung? #Aiki #Choreography #shorts
ME AND WHO?????? my life changed after watching this video. the LOVE. if anyone is confused about what the female gaze is, THIS IS THE FEMALE GAZE. I would sell my soul to be either Aiki or Leejung in this situation.
Art:
One Hundred Live and Die - Bruce Nauman
I was looking back at photos from my trip to New York back in 2018 and found some from when I visited the MOMA. Got to see some of Bruce Nauman’s neon light art pieces. I wish I could go back - I think I would have appreciated the opportunity more.
Pixel Art
I learned how to make pixel art on photoshop - so stay tuned for some works haha. it’s actually quite easy and a less tiresome, calming art form.
Print:
The Art of Frugal Hedonism
you can actually enjoy life’s pleasures without blowing obscene amounts of money - who knew! this self-help book offers insight on money saving tips, but it isn’t filled with spreadsheets and budgets templates - instead, it offers in depth tips on how to spend less money, while changing your perspective on materialistic desires in a society imprisoned by capitalism and consumerism. highly recommend this book to anyone looking to better manage their finances.
Alright, that’s all for June’s media. Check out my Spotify playlist for June 2022, where you can find more songs I’ve been into lately. I really recommend watching the YouTube videos I’ve linked and reading The Art of Frugal Hedonism!

[INTERVIEW] Baekhyun, Kai - 190927 Billboard: “Why SuperM Is Being Touted as K-Pop's Avengers”
"With SM Entertainment’s newly formed supergroup, SuperM, the company hopes to reclaim its dominance as the genre continues to push into the U.S. mainstream.
There have been hip-hop collectives and rock supergroups, but SM Entertainment’s SuperM is being touted by the company as a boy band full of leading men -- and K-pop’s most impressive lineup to date, with seven members from SM’s most successful and still-active groups.
“I see this as a new challenge,” says EXO vocalist Baekhyun, who at 27 is the oldest member of SuperM and has emerged as its leader. “There are a lot of expectations, because even though this is new, each of us comes from a different [popular] group. But there’s this awesome synergy between us.”
Tumblr media
The group -- which will release its self-titled debut EP on Oct. 4 -- also consists of EXO’s Kai, 25, who recently became the global face of Gucci’s new eyewear campaign; WayV’s Lucas, the 20-year-old Hong Kong-born rapper, and Ten, the 23-year-old Thai artist; NCT 127’s Canadian songwriter-rapper Mark, 20, and 24-year-old leader Taeyong; and Taemin, 26, who has been in the industry the longest, joining SHINee at 14. “Our team is the aces of aces,” says Taemin.
EXO has scored four No. 1s on Billboard’s World Albums chart; in January, WayV debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Social 50 ranking; NCT 127 performed on Good Morning America in April; and SHINee has won the Seoul Music Awards’ popularity honor twice.
As for SuperM, its name is a nod to its roots at Korean company SM Entertainment, formed in 1995 by producer Lee Soo-man. Since then, SM has expanded K-pop’s reach, first in Asia and then in the United States. Earlier this year, SM partnered with Capitol Music Group to build a bigger following for NCT 127 in the States. And in August, the two companies, along with Capitol’s independent distribution and label services division Caroline, announced they would launch SuperM together.
Capitol CEO Steve Barnett says SuperM will “be part of our legacy to the future,” and calls Lee the “godfather” of K-pop. Lee’s résumé proves as much. In 1996, SM introduced H.O.T., largely considered the first K-pop idol group, and has continued to produce acts with stateside appeal.
Many South Korean entertainment companies have followed suit: Big Hit’s BTS has had three Billboard 200 No. 1 albums; this summer, YG’s Blackpink became the first female K-pop group to perform at Coachella; and Starship Entertainment’s Monsta X collaborated this year with French Montana on a Mainstream Top 40 hit. All three have redefined what U.S. success can look like for Korean pop groups in the second half of this decade. And while SuperM may seem like SM’s latest effort to rival its competitors, it’s equally an attempt to revive one of SM’s key sonic legacies: SMP, or SM Music Performance. The company-created term refers to dance performances set to a fusion of pop-rock, R&B and hip-hop production. SMP was best illustrated by early-2000s releases from record-breaking boy band TVXQ!, which in June 2018 became the best-selling foreign touring act in Japan, and Super Junior, which has had 21 top 20 hits on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart.
SM has had U.S. crossover success before: In 2009, BoA became the first-ever K-pop star to enter the Billboard 200, and in 2012, Girls’ Generation performed on the Late Show With David Letterman. In June, NCT 127 debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200 with its We Are Superhuman EP. But SuperM, with its blockbuster lineup, is SM’s effort to lead the K-pop conversation in the U.S. market, as it once did in the early ’00s.
“I don’t want to compare SuperM to any of the other groups at SM, but if I had to describe [what] sets us apart, it’s the performance element,” says Taemin. “It’s not just dance, but includes vocals and rapping, where each member can showcase his ability and shine in a different way, that maybe they can’t in other groups.”
So far, SuperM has been tight-lipped about the sound and style of its album and doesn’t plan to share any tracks ahead of the set other than the already-released instrumental version of “I Can’t Stand the Rain.” One thing it has made clear, though, is its goal: “We’re doing something futuristic and more advanced than what the world has ever seen,” says Mark."
SuperM also arrives at a time when SM shareholders are demanding change. In July, SM rearranged its upper leadership at SM Entertainment Group and subsidiary SM Contents & Culture, and announced it would look to divest less-than-profitable business ventures -- mainly the SMTOWN Coex Artium complex in Seoul, a museum, café, theater and store that opened in 2015. If SuperM becomes a crossover success, the company could solidify its footing.
Despite the fact that SuperM already has debuted on Billboard’s Artist 100 chart without releasing a stitch of music, K-pop fans have expressed trepidation over its assembly. Immediately after Barnett and Lee announced SuperM at August’s Capitol Congress -- Capitol’s annual pep rally and presentation of upcoming releases — the hashtag #SuperMDisbandParty was created, as fans, concerned over how the supergroup would impact the futures of their favorite existing K-pop acts, demanded that SM and Capitol abandon the project.
SuperM isn’t fazed. Its members want to prove how strong they are as a whole -- especially when they’re together onstage. (The group is currently in rehearsals, but announced in a teaser Tuesday that it will be making its first-ever performance in Los Angeles at Capitol Records on Oct. 5 -- one day after the release of its debut EP.) “It’s always important to take the next step when people might not expect it,” says Mark. “We always try to make that challenge into something great for the fans -- and for us, as well.”
Tumblr media
SM Entertainment’s Pre-SuperM Supergroups
S.M. the Ballad: SM vocalists from TRAX, Super Junior (and its sub-unit Super Junior-M), SHINee, TVXQ!, Girls’ Generation and EXO -- and two former SM members, one of whom is now in Cube Entertainment’s boy band Pentagon -- released two EPs under the name S.M. the Ballad. In 2010, one grouping recorded Miss You; in 2014, another recorded Breath, which hit No. 9 on Billboard’s World Albums chart.
Younique: In 2012, South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company unveiled its new marketing campaign, “Premium Younique Lifestyle,” and worked with SM to debut a supergroup in promotion. Within two months, Younique -- members of EXO, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, Super Junior and Super Junior-M -- released PYL Younique Volume 1, featuring singer-songwriter BoA and rappers Dok2 and The Quiett.
SM The Performance: The choreography-heavy team has released only two singles since it formed in 2012, and they arrived five years apart. The group debuted with a Korean remix of Zedd’s “Spectrum” (off his 2012 debut album, Clarity) featuring members from TVXQ!, Super Junior, SHINee and EXO. And in 2017, it released “Dream in a Dream,” a solo single from WayV’s Ten that was branded a group track."

Best K-pop, 2018
Tumblr media
The Year BTS Won the West was also the Year of “Indie” K-R&B (Hoody, Jooyoung, Heize, etc.), the Year of the Crossover Collab, the Year of something I've been referring to as The “Despacito” Effect, and the Year of the Three-Part Mini-Album series. But the more things change, the more they stay the same: Red Velvet is still outpacing everyone.

MGA season 4, ep. 7 - Skills Team 1 - Shooting Star #4003 ( Kim Junmyeon ) #4012 ( Kim Yongsun )  #4033 ( Lee Luda ) #4050 ( Kang Daniel ) Boa - Amazing Kiss | Lines
Second place – she'd never expected that, especially after placing last twice. The last two teams she was in, did really well and yet she was still stuck on the first two performances. Still worried she could fall back to the bottom anytime.
But now wasn't the time to worry, she had to choose. She was glad that their team placed 2nd this out of all episodes, otherwise all the vocal spots might have been taken already. And she was extra lucky because her favourite pick out of all of the songs had only one spot left. She didn't even want to imagine what would've happened, had she been forced into one of the rap teams. She'd definitely have been kicked out with her complete lack of rap skills. It gave her hope that now, in the vocal team of her choice, she would have a chance.
SINGING: Amazing Kiss (1), Love In The Ice (5) DANCING: Instruction (5), Handclap (6), Stay (5) RAPPING: Born Hater (2), Who You (2)
“I choose amazing kiss,” she said somewhat confidently. Love in the ice could have been a good choice too, though she knew amazing kiss better. Plus the latter had fewer spots, meaning she would possibly get more screen-time, which seemed like a good choice in her case. She knew that barely anything more than the performances of her were shown and that she wasn't really all that popular either. While she didn't mind others being more popular than her, she was worried that her lack of popularity could be a factor in her elimination. She would have to do her very best and choose the song that suited her the most.
As she walked to the practise room for this week, she felt a bit restless. Usually Luda was a very positive person, always expecting the best to happen, but the past weeks had taken their toll on the young girl. What if she wouldn't get along with her team? What if they all had opposing opinions and didn't work well together or would fight over parts? In contrast to before, she had no idea who her teammates would be and Luda took a deep breath before opening the door.
Once everyone had arrived, Luda could finally calm down. She'd worked with Junmyeon in the previous week and from what she knew of Daniel, she was looking forward to being on the same team. She was especially happy to work with Yongsun again and looked forward to practising lines together.
This week she wouldn't have to dance, which made her even happier and more confident as well. She wasn't too bad with expressions and knew the song. Luda was hopeful again and her positive attitude returned.
Singing was her favourite part as expected, but practising her expressions and body language was interesting as well. She felt that as a group they would do really, really well, but of course after eliminations were skipped last week and this was a skill challenge now, she had to do well by herself. At first she thought she'd go home to sleep more often – like she did on the first night – feeling like a lot of pressure was lifted from her shoulders this week, but the more she wondered if she could go on to the next round, the more nights she decided to stay. Next to the first, the last night was the only one she went home. Soon it became a habit to say good night to the cameras whenever no one from her team was around.
Wednesday was the most difficult day for her. Only two days left and they had to choose favourites for each skill. She wasn't even sure if her part would be aired – she could imagine they'd only show those who'd been named the most and those who voted for them. But either way she didn't feel happy with having to choose only one person each, when she couldn't objectively compare every single contestant. In the end she chose those she thought were best and quickly concentrated on practising afterwards.
Her favourite nights were those, where she wasn't alone, like that one night Yongsun stayed late to practise as well. They'd started to go over a few parts together but as both were tired, they ended up falling asleep, leaning against the wall and each other. Even though it wasn't the most comfortable position, she slept really well that night.
Practising went well, she probably made the best progress so far, compared to all other weeks and while she'd had fun on stage before, she really enjoyed practising as well. It was still exhausting, but she didn't feel quite as tired. Daniel often brought them drinks, especially tea for their throats and he even addressed that she didn't go home or rest much. She was touched that he noticed, but also felt bad that she made someone else worry. Luda was glad though, that he'd talked to her, because otherwise she might have overworked herself much more – she probably wouldn't have gone to sleep at home on Thursday and who knew, maybe she would've lost consciousness on stage. It really made her realise that she had to take better care of herself, so she was thankful to him.
On the last day before the performance, after getting ready to go home, the girl positioned herself in front of one of the cameras. While she felt somewhat more confident, she was also worried that this could be more of an individual challenge – and her last one. She'd wondered on previous days if she should do this or not, talk to the camera – the viewers – about how she felt and now she'd spontaneously decided to do so. Her expression was serious and suddenly she worried that this would be too negative, so she quickly smiled and cleared her throat.
“The performance is tomorrow already, time went by quickly again, didn't it?” the girl suppressed a yawn and after thinking for a moment, continued. “I learned a lot over the past weeks and I'm looking forward to tomorrow, even though I'm not completely confident. It's difficult to switch teams every week, but also nice to meet new people, so whatever happens, this was a really nice journey. Of course it isn't over just yet,” she grinned, “and I'll make sure to show you my best performance so far,” she winked at the camera and left the practise room. The girl didn't expect her words to be aired, but she wanted to try and convey her feelings either way.
The next day she was already backstage, waiting again and when it was their turn, she took a long breath, burying her worry of failure as deep as possible. The week had gone well.
I can do this!
To her, a vocal position was the only option. She could challenge herself with a dance position, sure, but if she messed up, she wouldn't only place low for that, but surely also for her lack of good decision making. She wasn't here to become the best dancer, she was here to show her vocal ability, even if her dancing had developed a lot over the past weeks.
They greeted the audience with their practised intro. “Hello, we are shooting,” they lifted their hands to make finger guns, “star!” and they ended their intro while “firing” their guns. It was a bit embarrassing, but the crowd was cheering – though surely not because of her, she thought – so it was fine.
They entered their starting positions and she took a last deep breath.
Vocal condition, expression, body language, she'd done her very best this week and when they went through the performance while practising, she'd done well. She might not have been the most charismatic of the four, but she did do well.
Yongsun was the first to sing, her soft voice filling the hall. Luda joined in on the last line to harmonise with her. She put emotion into the line as she sang softly and looked at the camera, holding her free hand over her heart.
The tip of the starlight, approach my heart Shine the love that is pointing at you
She waited patiently for her next line, her body language fitting to the song as she tried to convey emotion not just while singing, but also physically to the best of her ability. She began her next part while looking up and pretended to catch a star before turning back to the audience and camera. Her voice was still soft, but began to become a bit clearer as the part asked of her and they all harmonised as her line came to an end.
The song picked up a bit in speed and she was already immersed, not thinking about any worries, not even thinking about doing her best, just doing the best she could.
This is only shooting star I believe in our eternity In that sky where our happiness and love is melted Precious in my love which has become a star
She sang her next lines just as well as the previous, but showed more power and her vocals were as clear as usual. The lights always focused on those singing and whenever it shone on her, her heart started pumping faster, while the screens in the back showed a night sky filled with stars.
The song became more “dramatic” and she took a deep breath for the next lines she harmonised with Yongsun, turning towards her.
Finding the meaning of that light Illuminated by each others trust
Her voice sounding emotional, she looked at Yongsun, moving her free hand as though underlining the emotion, before looking up with a longing expression at the end.
Two more lines and she ad-libbed, turning towards Yongsun again, but with closed eyes this time. Their voices matched nicely and both sang powerfully. She quickly had to breathe as she had to continue with her next lines right after.
Amazing kiss Hidden in the darkness Where that light shines The view of two shadows gently leaning on each other Kept inside a star, I want to keep it So it cannot be seen
First Junmyeon ad-libbed as she sang, then she harmonised with Yongsun and Daniel repeated the last part, before Junmyeon ad-libbed once more. She looked at the audience again, excited as she sang and happy to be on stage once more.
The last part they sang together, she puts power into her ad-libs and they all harmonise well, before Yongsun ends the song.
They stand still until they have to leave the stage. “We did!” Luda agrees with Yongsun and grins earnestly. “We all did great!” The adrenaline still pumps through her veins and it's only later, after it died down that she starts to wonder whether she did great enough.

“Eu estou oficialmente divulgando o nome do Álbum! (rufem os tambores, por favor).
Chama “Kaleidoscope Heart”.

King of Anything
Say You’re Sorry
Let The Rain
Hold My Heart
Essa música foi brevemente falada sobre no capítulo “Many the Miles” no livro que Sara escreveu “Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song”.
Not Alone
“You see, nothing has changed since Red Riding Hood. So, what they’re frightened of today are exactly the same things they were frightened of yesterday.”
“Veja, nada mudou desde a Chapeuzinho Vermelho. Então, o que eles temem hoje são exatamente as mesmas coisas que eles temiam ontem.”
Machine Gun
“Eu escrevi “Machine Gun” como uma ajuda a mim mesma pra construir minhas defesas de voltar ao mundo de ser criticado.“

OUTLANDER S3 Ep 11 : "Uncharted" .....New version of Survivor
FIrst....Diana Gabaldon wrote about a short bit about a man on a tropical island that talked to a Coconut named "Coco" LONG before Tom Hanks had Wilson to keep him company.  Just an FYI.
So, Claire jumped ship and the water was supposed to carry her to the Grand Turks where she could get a ship to Jamaica.  That is not what happened. Claire floats for god knows how long and then sees land and barely makes it to the beach.
The next 12 minutes is her drying her clothes, walking through the middle of the jungle, getting eaten alive by fire ants, having a boa constrictor slithering over her when she wakes up one morning, and basically trying to find water and survive.  In my opinion, 10 minutes too long, especially since there WAS a HURRICANE in the books which we did not get to experience.  I mean Claire hanging in a mangrove holding onto a tree for dear life in dangerously high winds is much more exciting to me.
Nevertheless, she passes out as she just starts to hear a voice and a dog barking.  She wakes up sometime later, convinced she is dying and trying to figure out where she is and then realizes she is tied to the bed hand and foot with a nice glass of water nearby.
A woman comes in with a poor bedside manner in my opinion and gives Claire the water, but nearly drowns her in doing so.  She tells Claire in Spanish that she is tied up for her own good.  Claire passes back out.
She wakes up again, some time later, and there is a man sitting on the side of her bed and announces to "Mamacita" that their guest is awake at last.  He unties Claire and hands her some water and introduces himself as Father Fogden and asks how she got there.  Claire asks where "here" is and the Father is very pleased to hear she is English. The Father tells her she is on the island of Sam Domingue, three days from Jamaica.  He is shocked to hear that she not only jumped off a ship into the ocean, but is also a doctor.  "It is much more common in the colonies" she tells him lamely.
Claire learns there is a small village on the other side of the island, a days walk from there.  She could get a boat to the next island over and then to Jamaica.  She is eager to go but the Father says that it is not a good idea in her condition and this is where he gets even weirder....consults with "Coco" his coconut friend for advice.  Oooooookaaaay then.  The Father asks Mamacitia if they have any clothing for Claire, perhaps one of Ermengilda's, but Mamacita says no in a big way and calls Claire a whore really not worthy of the clothing.  Mamacita takes Claire out back and gives her a towel with some soap and a robe.  She can take a bath and she relishes in it.
Back inside, Claire is seated to dinner with Mamacita and the Father.  He tells his story of being a missionary in Cuba and fell deeply in love with a woman there....Ermengilda.  She returned his affections, which surprised him.  However, she was already married to a powerful and dangerous man named Don Hernando and the Father, being a priest is never supposed to become involved with a woman, especially a married one.  So the couple fled together and ended up on the island where they are now.  However, shortly after arriving, Ermengilda became sick and died.  She was Mamacita's only child and is convinced that this "whore" is here to take her daughter's place.  Claire says she wishes to depart as soon as possible.  Of course, Mamacita is more than happy with that plan.  Father Fogden and Mamacita start to argue and Claire excuses herself and sits down the hall next to a room and sees a beautiful dress hanging.  Just then, the Father comes and tells her that it was his Ermengilda's dress.
Claire listens to the Father talk about this woman he loved.  He turns to Claire and says, “When you loved someone as much as I loved Ermenegilda, it never leaves you."  . He looks at Claire and having heard her tale of woe about Jamie, he understands. “You have loved someone so much that you would risk everything for them,” he says.  Ummmm.....yeah.....that is why I am trying to leave NOW.
The only one left to convince is Coco to which Claire makes a brave, albeit lame attempt at having a conversation with the coconut when she hears the Father approaching.  However, we don't know if this would have worked, because Mamacita starts screaming for the Father.
When the Father and Claire arrive outside, Mamacita says that a "China man" killed and ate Arabella, their favorite goat.  She hands the Father the skinned head which he gently puts on top of a barrel and grabs a jar and dumps some flesh eating beetles on top.  “Voracious little fellows,” he says to Claire, “from a cave called Abandawe."  Claire immediately gets a flashback of Margaret Campbell in Edinburgh warning her about that cave.  I just call it the "other" stone circle.  Yes, people.....there is more than one worldwide and there is usually stone involved, but not always a standing stone circle. The Father says that it is highly regarded as a place of great power by the locals and that there is a history of people "just appearing there".  Hmmmmmm.
Claire asks for more information when she hears the work "China man" again.  Could it be?  She is told that there are sailors on the beach as some damage was done to their ship.  Claire is pointed in the proper direction and she takes off running.
Meanwhile, we finally see Jamie, sitting on the beach.  Apparently some strong winds (again....HURRICANE people...it IS hurricane season the same time every year) came along and they lost several crew members, like Captain Raines and Mr. Murphy (the cook).  They are busy trying to fix their mast and sails.  Marsali is even asked to help as she is good with a needle and thread.
Claire, running as fast as her feet can run through the jungle, convinced that it is Jamie (hey...it COULD be the same ship you jumped off of...but okay).  There is a montage of men working to get things fixed and picked up and Claire running.  Question becomes, will she make it on time? She cuts open her arm pretty good on the way through, but manages to keep going.  When she finally arrives on the beach, she sees the Artemis out in the ocean.  The ship hasn't left yet, thank goodness, but they are too far away to hear her screaming.  They are not ready to sail just yet, they are still adding the finishing touches to their repairs.
Claire had pocketed a small mirror earlier at dinner time when she went to sit by herself.  She thinks of it now and uses it as a beacon which catches Jamie's eye.  When Jamie looks through the spyglass and sees his beloved Claire there, the next thing we see is Claire running toward the beach and small boat arriving at the beach, but Jamie is already out and running towards Claire.
A beautiful reunion moment, where Jamie tells her he thought he lost her again and he thanks God that they have found each other.  Kissing of course comes with this.
A little later, Jamie and Claire are talking and Jamie confesses he has given his blessing to Fergus and Marsali to be married.  He has seen that Fergus loves Marsali like he loves Claire.  He thinks it a good idea to have a wedding as a way of lifting the mood of the men and a celebration (they found each other again!).  Claire just happens to know of someone who could help out in that area. Oh, and Mr. Willoughby stitches up Claire and she approves of his work.
Back at the "ranch", Marsali is trying to get herself ready for her wedding.  She is having difficulties with her corset and Claire comes to help her.  She asks Claire if she knows of a way to prevent pregnancy.  Claire asks why a young girl like Marsali would not be pleased to start a family right away.  First, Marsali says she just wants to have her and Fergus time to enjoy each other (very future modern of her).  She then confesses that when Jamie would pull her mother close, her mom would shrink back.  But, she sees Jamie with Claire and it is different.  Claire loves the touching, etc.  Claire admits she does and as she finishes up the corset on Marsali, tells her once they are back on the boat, she will tell her how it is done.
Marsali is pleased that there is actually a way and that maybe Claire is not the devil after all.  Gee....thanks girl.
The wedding happens....well....for the most part.  LOL!  Father Fogden is high, crazy and possibly drunk (but there was none of the famous drink in the show).  He turns to the wrong man and asks him if he chooses to marry this woman and the poor man says no and points to Fergus.  The Father asks if he is sure as this "one" only has one hand a “I suppose it’s fine unless he’s missing his cock. He isn’t, is he?” asks the priest. To which Marsali responds, saucily, “I could tell you if you’d up and get on with it.”  Marsali is getting impatient and speaks her mind a few times.  When it comes to Fergus's turn, the Father asks his WHOLE name.  Fergus tells him that Fergus is his name.
Jamie speaks up that his name is Fergus Claudel FRASER.  Fergus is more than pleased.
Back on the ship, we don't get to see Fergus and Marsali, but we get our Turtle Soup scene, although it isn't quite as good as the book version IMO.  Claire is slurping up soup and telling Jamie how good it is.  She is obvious drunk (from the soup) and Jamie also sees she is burning up of fever.
She tries to get him to help her inject her with the penicillin.  Jamie gets close, but can't do the final deed of stabbing her with it.  Claire does it herself.  She comes on strong to Jamie and tells him to bolt the door as she is climbing over the table to him.
Jamie thinks it is wrong to take advantage of a woman who is drunk and feverish.  Claire disagrees and says she is not drunk.  What follows is a hot sex scene (they finally do it like "horses" like Jamie thought on the wedding night), but Mr. Willoughby knocks to see how "first wife" likes the soup and if she wants anymore.  Jamie is trying his best to do his deed, and keep his wife quite but she isn't that easy to handle.  Mr. Willoughby gets the message when he hears a couple of sounds and walks away.
That is a great way to end an episode.  At least this week, they are together and not in danger.  However, we still have Jamaica and for one, I am NOT happy they chose to do it in only two episodes.  Jamaica is almost HALF of the freaking book and quite a bit happens while they are there.  Well, I guess we will see.
What are your thoughts or opinions on this episode?  I give it a FOUR as they once again spent too much time on something where they could put something they are leaving out IN.

This is gonna be a rare “life update” post, rather than a food post.
Starting with my answer from the last post: Where am I going for vacation in a few days? SEATTLE & VANCOUVER. Seattle is completely new to me, & just like Vancouver, my trip is very food-heavy :D I’m excited to use my new camera for photos & videos. I’m also excited to spend time away from home, in general. However, a part of me is “worried”. I’m not the type to “worry”, but I’m going with a girl friend who I’ve never traveled with. I know my own travel style very well & I’m very particular with certain things- the idea that it’s a “trip for two” kinda/sorta stresses me out. But we’ll see. .. maybe it will be great!
Speaking of stress, I have recently noticed that certain qualities in ppl really stress me out; like my tolerance has dropped immensely since 1.5 yrs ago. I almost wouldn’t call it annoyance or frustration now, but actually stress & anxiety. The quality is: “slowness”. You can interpret that however way you want, but it’s 100% true. I can’t deal with it. .. & sadly, I can’t be away from it either lol that being said, I’ll keep it brief: I am looking forward to new changes at work. It’s gonna be a looooong journey of change & challenges in the next few yrs, & I don’t foresee it being “pleasant” in any way, but for now, I’m almost grateful that THE newest change is happening within a month of my return to work. Although most will assume it’s a change that will affect me negatively, I view it as a short term (& hopefully will change into a long term) disconnection from sources of stress ^^
Okay moving on. . . the future of my YouTube channel. Yeah, I have a YouTube channel haha I posted daily vlogs on a weekly basis for all of 2018. I stopped once 2019 started as it was meant to be a 1-yr project that I wished to try out in order to learn some video-editing skills. It was fun! Hard at times, but glad I did it. For 2019, I’m gonna aim to post short videos of my eating experiences in Edmonton. I have a few up already, but the idea is: every Saturday (publishing on Saturdays seem to work for me best so I’m keeping it that way) I will post a ~1min video on YouTube about an Edmonton restaurant/café. These will hopefully align with the blog posts on here. I can’t guarantee that bcos I might not have enough video content to make a good enough video depending on the circumstance but I’ll try!
Next topic --> the future of my ETSY shop. Yes, I have an Etsy shop, where I sell paintings. That was a 2017 thing. .. that got taken over by daily vlogging so .. . things happen, right? Well, I’ve finally resolved my password/account situation so that’s a good re-start. The next days, I will spend some time reading the ‘saved’ articles from a while ago. When I look at the Etsy platform now, it’s more seller-friendly, the dashboard is very informative, & more importantly, for someone without any business background, they offer good resources for online advertising & marketing. Not sure if it would be news to you or not, but Etsy is slowly moving towards store/event type of purchasing now. In the past few yrs, not just limited to Canada, there has been pop-up’s, larger scale booth-style show events, & the carrying of Etsy products in real shops is becoming a thing. If there’s an event near you, you should check it out!
Latest Kpop obsessions: Chung Ha & Mamamoo. Chung Ha is a new-ish female solo artist, & to me, she gives off a strong Sunmi x Boa vibe. Charismatic on stage & her singing + dancing stability is amazing! Mamamoo is a girl group that I’ve heard of for several yrs, but it wasn’t until recently when I skimmed thru MAMA 2018 that I actually listened to one of their songs. “Starry Night” is currently on repeat :P
The most recent Kdramas I’ve watched: Memories of the Alhambra, & Your Honor. Memories of the Alhambra has a unique storyline, & Hyun Bin. .. he is simply a piece of art haha the fantasy/game background & having 2 plots going simultaneously is similar to W-Two Worlds, more so bcos they share the same writer. The drama started strong but around ep 12-13 out of 16 eps, it felt draggy to me. I watched bcos I wanted to finish the drama & I wanted to keep seeing Hyun Bin. On the other hand, Your Honour turned out to be a better drama than I thought; the beginning half was kind of slow-paced but the main couple had so much chemistry & their acting was really good. Comparing the two, I would recommend Your Honour.
. . . anything else? I think that’s it for now. Talk to you again soon~

Mermaid Speaks Her Mind: Let’s All Quit Kissing BTS’ Asses Already
Any ARMYs here?
That's a question that's become something of a meme amongst K-Pop fans on the internet. It stems from the phenomenon of BTS stans completely derailing the comments section on nearly any YouTube video, even if it's not even remotely related to the group. Even if you just comment on a YouTube video, saying anything at all, with BTS referred to in your username or icon, expect to have about a billion replies in your notification box screaming about Jimin's jams, or lack thereof.
It's part of the phenomenon that has risen around BTS--or Bangtan Sonyeondan, or Bulletproof Boy Scouts, or whatever it is you may call them. In just four years, the septet have risen from a group of nugus on a no-name label to one of the biggest names in K-Pop. That is, if you ask their fans.
Sure, there's a lot that BTS can be proud of. Their second full album Wings holds the record for the highest chart peak for a K-Pop album on the Billboard 200. They're the only K-Pop group to ever win a Billboard Music Award. They're the incumbent winner for Mnet's Asian Music Award for Artist of the Year. They even ranked at #5 on Forbes Korea's Power Celebrity List, which isn't bad for a group of dudes averaging around 22 years old. Their international fanbase is one that many groups can only dream of (and takes up a rather large portion of western K-Pop fans). There is no undermining the fact that they've made great strides in such a short amount of time.
But for one second, can we stop acting like BTS invented the very concept of K-Pop as we know it? Can we stop pretending that the 2008-2011 era of peak Hallyu never existed? Can we stop acting like BTS were responsible for bringing K-Pop to the forefront in the west? Please?
We seem to forget BTS' forefathers (and mothers) in hallyu. The roots of K-Ppo can be traced back to traditional Korean trot music of the early 20th century. K-Pop as we know it started to take shape in the early 1990s as groups like H.O.T., g.o.d., S.E.S., and Baby VOX rose to prominence. K-Pop, and  hallyu in general, began to make its presence known in the west in the early 2010s. Around that time, Girls' Generation, Super Junior, and SHINee began going viral for their stylish videos, catchy hooks, and breathtaking choreography. The wave moved even further as groups began doing one-off shows in New York and L.A., and in 2011, S.M. Entertainment held its first SM Town Live concert at Madison Square Garden. From there, groups began scheduling regular tour dates in the States, and in 2012, Los Angeles hosted the inaugural KCON, a convention dedicated to all things hallyu. (BTS themselves would be guests of the convention two years later.)
Since charts seem to be super important to Stan Culture, I'll lay some knowledge down on that, too. BoA actually holds the record for being the first K-Pop artist to chart on the Billboard 200 with her self-titled English debut, but BIGBANG's Alive EP is the first album to chart on the Billboard 200 that's actually fully in Korean. Before BTS, 2NE1 held the title for the highest Billboard 200 peak, for 2014's Crush. As far as Korean charts go, they still can't hold a candle to first-generation groups like H.O.T., Seo Taiji and Boys, and Shinhwa (who are still around today!).
And don't even try to tell me that BTS were the first group to try to crack the Western market. Many groups have tried, with, admittedly, not a great deal of success. BoA's aforementioned self-titled US debut never seemed to make it out of the lower reaches of the Billboard 200. Girls' Generation's US debut bombed as well, unheard of for a group touted as The Nation's Girl Group. The Wonder Girls' stints with the English-speaking market didn't really stick either--from a touring stint with the Jonas Brothers, to a made-for-TV movie on Nickelodeon, to an actual English-language single featuring Akon. It greatly affected the Wonder Girls' presence in Korea, which may have been a factor in their disbandment. Something similar could be said for 2NE1, who got locked in the basement laid low after Park Bom's drug smuggling scandal. As 2NE1 lay in wait, CL sprung for the US of A in search of her big break as a soloist. Even under the wing of Justin Bieber/Ariana Grande impresario Scooter Braun, and despite collabs with Skrillex, Diplo, and Lil Yachty, she still hasn’t quite made it. But hey, she got James Corden dancing at least.
Sure, PSY was successful, but only in the way that he's perceived by Americans as a novelty. We don't get him the way Koreans do (FYI--"Gangnam Style" was a satire, and a damn brilliant one at that). Plus, the fat old Asian man doing the silly dance is no threat to the vaguely attractive young white boys on the charts already. We enjoyed PSY for what we thought him to be. Can a foreign language song top American charts? If "Despacito" is any proof, it probably helps if a white guy is singing. (And that’s a remix! I didn’t even know that there was a version without Bieber, which says a lot, I think.) Zayn might be the most high-profile Asian pop star we have now (he’s half Pakistani, which is still Asian, y’all), but I’m thinking there’s a reason why he’s not up there with Bieber and Shawn Mendes. Hmm.
“But their YouTube views!” This is only something western fans seem to care about. Every year there’s some fandom trying to get their artist to break the record for the most-viewed video on YouTube. YouTube views are only a small factor into what charts on the Billboard Hot 100, and I don’t believe it plays a part in the Gaon or Hanteo charts at all. Sure, PSY holds the record for the most-viewed video of all time, but again, we don’t treat him like the serious pop star that he is. The truth is that it’s really just western fans who put stock in YouTube views. It’s really not as big a deal in the Korean industry. It’s not extremely detrimental, but I wouldn’t really call it significantly helpful either. Let’s take my girl Christina Aguilera for example. Her music video views pale in comparison to most current artists like Ariana Grande. But it’s Xtina who Ariana considers one of her biggest influences, and not just Ariana, but many of her contemporaries as well. In fact, most girls who can sing (and a lot who think they can) consider her an influence, as well as Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, who made their mark in a time before YouTube existed. (Also, YouTube views are easily manipulated by auto-refreshers, so I really couldn’t call that a good indicator of success, with a good conscience.)
While BTS are an extremely hardworking group of good dudes who have a lot of accomplishments to be proud of, gassing them up like a lot of stans tend to do erases the work of the first and second-generation acts that paved the way for them. Remember that you can be a "stan" and still be objective. I'm reminded of a quote by Key of SHINee: "My goal is not to be 'the best,' it's to be someone that I'm not ashamed to be." Your fave doesn't have to be the best. Who cares? At the end of the day they're your fave for a reason. They probably saved your life. That's what matters, right there. If charts and sales figures are what attract an artist to you, then I can safely assume you may be in it for the wrong reasons and will probably bounce once they stop racking up Perfect All-Kills or Billboard No. 1s.
That said, if one more person tries to tell me something BTS apparently invented, I might have to write another angry blog about it. Until then, I guess I’ll just keep stanning flops.

The Bug presents Killing SoundChapter 4: Poems & Drones
I dedicate this show to the memory and work of Stephen Gordon aka The Spaceape. I still vividly remember Kode 9 playing me his earliest broadcasts from the abyss, alongside Stephen Gordon aka The Spaceape. Floored I was… even tho I had also previously embarked upon similar ideas with my album Pressure. Here was a duo, who were splicing together dissidence, science friction and sonic sorcery for their immaculate cover of The Specials’ “Ghost Town” or Prince’s “Sign o’ the Times”. Much later, when I asked Stephen to record my poem “At War With Time”, he didn’t just ice it, I completely froze when I heard the result. Goosebumps. And when I remembered how I used to read the numbskulls on ‘dubstep forum’ moaning about The Spaceape’s words interfering with the mood of the dance, I remembered how much I used to seethe, at their blinkered vision and closed ears, as he did too… for sure… lol! For me, Stephen’s poetry and prose had knowingly inherited Linton Kwesi Johnson’s dread delivery, and tipped a hat to Roger Robinson’s baritone blues, but had blazed its own futurist path to a scintillating, bewitching void. The Spaceape had re-ignited my interest in the idea of combining language with cosmic tones, and for a tremendous wordsoundpower. Other than being smitten by Sylvia Plath’s Lady Lazarus at school, poetry didn’t register on my radar till I saw Linton Kwesi Johnson fearlessly recite “Inglan is a Bitch” on national British TV’s Old Grey Whistle Test. Unplugged and a capella, his tale of alienation, indignation and the two-faced brutality of British colonialism resonated with me deeply. At that time, I knew I was pissed off at everything, and here came an angry man who verbalized my inner fire, albeit from a cultural opposite. But it was after hearing Roger Robinson’s appearance on the Chocolate Art EP that I subsequently invited Roger to guest with Techno Animal on the track “Dead Man’s Curse” (re-recorded here). I had found a meeting place for music and poetry in my soundworld. But I wasn’t the first, and certainly won’t be the last, I hope. And when I recently heard Rider Shafique’s fantastic “I-dentity” on Young Echo, it was great to hear the virus spreading still further, again. And likewise, with drone, it went from what I guess had been Eno’s mesmeric wash of sound for Bowie’s Low or John Cale’s relentless electric viola fueling The Velvet Underground, which had alerted me to the immersive appeal of sonic minimalism. And for me, the more I submitted to the magnetic foundation of drone music’s hypnotic core, the more I became addicted to its best players/composers/producers’ heart of spaciousness. When Justin Broadrick and I began work on the first Techno Animal album, and subsequently on Re-Entry, we had well and truly become disciples of drone, in our quest to explore anti-music, and the possibility of melting down conservative song structures. We wanted to get wasted on waveforms, and get suspended by endless loops of fx. Whilst many of us have lost faith in words and language due to misuse, political abuse and floods of imagination stealing ad-rushes, it’s a pleasure to put together this show with its slow musical evolutions and psychological revolutions. And with the shockingly depressing rise of the far right globally, and countries scrambling to close borders, it was crucial for me to bring together disparate voices from disparate cultures, united in their protest, passion and affirmation of life. Drone is the weapon, words are the ammunition. Enjoy the meditation. – Kevin “The Bug” Martin 1/ Charles Bukowski x Max Richter – The Bluebird x What Had They Done?
