Since Asajj Ventress appeared in recent media and is set to appear in future shows and Star Wars content, I've seen a lot of people starting to read Dark Disciple. but besides that book, there are so many stories featuring Asajj over her 22 years of existence. So if you are looking for some recommendations and entry points to Asajj outside of the TV shows, here are some recommendations to get to know her a bit better, in both the Canon and Legends timelines:
Tumblr media
(for anyone looking for a definitive list of everything she's ever been in, I also have that)
for anyone looking for just the list of recommendations without all my babbling, scroll down to the bottom, it'll be there.
Canon
Tumblr media
Dooku: Jedi Lost Audiodrama - Script by Cavan Scott, preformed by full cast (also available in Script format) Starting off, this masterpiece. Telling the dual story of Asajj and Dooku, Jedi Lost is genuinely some of the best Star Wars content out there, in my opinion. Taking place early in The Clone Wars, it tells Asajj's journey battling her ghosts and uncovering her Master's history. It requires only the context of the prequels and The Clone Wars, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes the Prequels, Dooku, or Asajj.
Tumblr media
Brotherhood - by Mike Chen Continuing with the book that serves as an introduction to Asajj in canon (chronologically), Brotherhood presents an interesting take on her first meetings with Anakin and Obi-Wan. She's far from the main character here, only supporting the book's plot as the villain and the initiator behind some of the troubles Obi-Wan faces on Cato Neimodia. This Asajj is more calculated, working behind the scenes while still facing off face to face against Obi-Wan and Anakin, and it uniquely handles her character. The book is a Clone Wars adventure taking place before and it requires only the movies' and TCW's context, once again. *While technically taking place after Hyperspace Stories #5, it contradicts that issue's events and makes more sense if it takes place before, so I listed it first (for more info on the contradictions you can go here)*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #5 - Written by Amanda Deibert, with art by Riccardo Faccini (Variant cover by Cary Nord) Taking place shortly after Anakin's knighting, before The Clone Wars show, this is a short and interesting comic story for Asajj. While tying into an over-arching plot of the series, this issue stands alone well. Simply put, Asajj is sent to retrieve a mysterious item by Count Dooku and encounters Anakin and Obi-Wan in the process. It has fun art, fun dynamics, and it's really good.
Tumblr media
Worthless - a short story from Stories of Jedi and Sith - written by Delilah S. Dawson with an illustration by Jake Bartok This one is not as set on the timeline, but we do know it takes place while Asajj is still working for Dooku. In short, without too many spoilers, Asajj falls into a pit and has to trust on a Clone Trooper's help to get out. The story is a part of an anthology, but it completely stand-alone on its own. If you can read it on its own, I recommend it, but the rest of the book is also very much worth it if you want to buy it for the story. Dawson captures a version of Asajj that rarely gets attention, before the Nightsisters, and manages to show her identity and tell a wonderful story without that tool that's often overly used (in my opinion).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader's Castle #3 - Written by Cavan Scott with art by Francesco Francavilla & Nick Brokenshire Jumping forward in the Timeline, we have another Asajj story by Cavan Scott! It has Bounty Hunting, A baby Sarlacc, pretty art, fun coloring, and Asajj. So what's not to love? Like Hyperspace Stories, Return to Vader's Castle also has an over-arching plot, but that's 4 framing pages of Vaneé being a bitch and has no effect on the rest of it. Solid stuff. (it is also the source of the first picture in this post)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sisters - a short comic story from the Age of Republic Special - written by Jody Houser with art by Carlos Gómez Next, we have a wonderful short story taking place just before The Clone Wars episode "To Catch a Jedi". In just a few pages, Jody Houser brings conflict and personality to Asajj's time on Coruscant. And there's gorgeous art.
Legends
While Legends, and especially the comics, have some of my favorite stories with Asajj, it's hard to recommend individual issues. They can be stand-alone but still connected and ingrained in the ongoing story of the comics. But I tried to hand-pick the best for introduction and knowledge of who Asajj is a character there. So I won't recommend the 12 issues she's in, I set myself the limit of sticking with the same number of recommendations I had for canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Star Wars: Republic: The New Face of War - 2-issue Comic arc - written by W. Haden Blackman with art by Tomás Giorello Although I'm assuming you all have at least a passing familiarity with Asajj's character, introductions are still important. And, yes, Asajj first appeared in a different comic and after a month or so in Clone Wars (2003), but chronologically, in-universe, this is her first appearance. The Face of War is comprised of issues #51 and #52 of the Star Wars: Republic comic series, and although Asajj is only in the last page of #51, it's necessary context. This one isn't a must for me, but it sets the ground for her. And it's good. Giorello's art brings a unique perspective to Asajj's character, and by that I mean it may not be to some people's taste. So take your pick with this one.
Tumblr media
Star Wars: Republic #53 - written by W. Haden Blackman, with art by Brian Ching If the last one isn't a must, this one is. It is a stand-alone adventure, almost feeling like a (better) TCW episode. Obi-Wan is off to infiltrate a Techno Union base with a team of all-star legendary Jedi that are introduced, and everything goes wrong when they run into the Confederacy's best, Durge and Asajj Ventress. I say it's a must because it establishes the nature of the rivalry between Obi-Wan and Asajj, and gives us such a sense of who those people are. It also lays the foundations to my next comic recommendation.
Dark Heart - short story by August and Cynthia Hahn This one, a 1784-word story, originally published on Wizards.com as a part of The Living Force roleplaying campaign, is definitely not a must, but it's barely 2k words, just read it. In all seriousness though, it captures Asajj's essence and I just. love it. You can read it right now, that's the link in the name, it's up online for free legally. While it is a part of the RPG campaign, I read it individually and had no trouble at all.
Tumblr media
The Cestus Deception - by Steven Barnes (The Japanese cover is prettier and has Asajj, ok?) Obi-Wan Kenobi and Kit Fisto head to the planet Ord Cestus to try and convince Ord Cestus's government to ally with The Republic. But under the surface, a mysterious scheme had developed and it gets messy. Never ask me to write a publisher's summary. Asajj is the villain of this one, and I don't have much to say about it, but it is good. Fair warning: it hasn't aged the best in my opinion, and not even in a politically correct sense, some of the descriptions and relationships were questionable at best. If you like Kit Fisto and political adventuring and Clone Wars fights and a mascarade ball, if I remember correctly, this one's for you. It's not much of a story for Asajj but it is a fun read.
Tumblr media
Star Wars: Republic #60 - written by W. Haden Blackman with art by Tomás Giorello I have never ever not once said it but this right here is my favorite Asajj story of all time ever. It does require context, though, so here's it: after the battle of Jabiim, Alpha-17 (Legends Arc Trooper, you may have heard of him) and Obi-Wan (a staple in Asajj's stories, he needs to gtfo women's business) are blown up and declared dead. Turns out Asajj Ventress has been holding them in her castle on the planet Rattatak and this is the daring story of their escape. In this issue, Asajj's origin story is revealed, before the Nightsisters had anything to do with her. More than any other Legends issue, it differentiates greatly from anything you know about Asajj in TCW/Canon. She's a warlord, with armies at her beck and call, a military commander, And it's fun. Her origin story is told in this issue, and it's such a great story that shifted my understanding of her a lot. The art, once again, is by Giorello, keep it in mind.
Tumblr media
Yoda: Dark Rendezvous - by Sean Stewart (Japanese cover, once again) Last but certainly not least, the Legends Clone Wars book I've heard the most positive reviews of, and was not disappointed in the slightest. It is as good as they say. The story doesn't focus on Asajj, and she isn't even the main antagonist, but she gets a meaningful role in it and has her place and her arc in the story. It's also my favorite approach to how Asajj would act when she has to deal with children. Worth the hype and an excellent book to read unrelated to Asajj.
Alright, that's all! I hope you check out at least one of these, they're all great. As said before, I also have a complete list of everything Asajj in chronological order. Feel free to ask me anything about the list and the things in it. I can also give a complete comic reading list for her, since it's a bit more than just the issues she appeared in. For anyone struggling with the accessibility of these recommendations, I have a hopefully comprehensive guide in the complete appearances post. And now just this list because I promised that:
Canon 1) Dooku: Jedi Lost Audiodrama - Script by Cavan Scott, preformed by full cast (also available in Script format) 2) Brotherhood - by Mike Chen 3) Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories #5 - Written by Amanda Deibert, with art by Riccardo Faccini (Variant cover by Cary Nord) 4) Worthless - a short story from Stories of Jedi and Sith - written by Delilah S. Haden Blackman, with art by Brian Ching 3) Dark Heart - short story by August and Cynthia Hahn 4) The Cestus Deception - by Steven Barnes 5) Star Wars: Republic #60 - written by W. but imagine fsgki senate spy but the jedi decide that sending padme to Cato neimodia with clovis is a BAD idea but she won't risk her handmaids so they bust out the Hardeen tech to send a duplicate. only the one doing the Face/Off is Anakin
oh nooo is this Anakin disguised as Padme? Does he forget he’s supposed to be Padme? Does Clovis get hit with ye olde force choke, delivered via someone who is very much not a jedi?? I feel like there is a chance Anakin get’s WAY too comfortable with this tech lmao
but more importantly: the imperial march playing while Padme does the terrifying Anakin/Vader Murder Walk with terrifying Anakin Murder Face

THE ONLY WAY TO DEAL WITH THE WEAKER ARCS IN THE CLONE WARS IS TO COMBINE THEM
for example, take that boring ass Clovis arc [so we're going to use Vader rage to overlook the fact this banker pillock was about to commit sexual assault ok] and the decent but proof Jedi could be imbeciles Hardeen arc and create this:
they realize this likely separatist doofus offering to take padme to cato neimodia where you know there are people who can and DO try to kill her is a terrible idea and instead have her coach behind the scenes the person wearing her face throughout the mission using the Hardeen technology.
which happens to be Anakin.
hilarity ensues. Obi-Wan treats himself to popcorn.

Summary: Jedi padawan reader experiences the events before and after Order 66.
Warnings: Angst, violence, death, injury.
Word Count: 6,296
Tumblr media
Today was no different from the others, but on this specific occasion you felt off. The lack luster of pride, confidence, and tranquility was no doubt obvious to the legion. You were just unable to correspond or focus normally as per usual.
You stood and observed the planet Cato Neimodia from the docking station. Soldiers were scattered around tending to transport ships and various other Z-95 Starfighters that needed more modifications before departure.
The whole reason to you feeling this way was because this was your last mission with the men, alongside master Plo. Your future afterwards would lye in the hands of the Jedi council.
You begged the stars that the Jedi council wouldn’t screw you over. Then again, anything is possible. Whether it be good or bad, there’s always an outcome to everything.
The sounds of beeps caused you to look away from the planet. Tilting your head down, your astromech droid, EV-9E, circled around you, making noises to get your attention. You smiled down at the chipped grey and white droid, then squatted down to be eye level with it.
“What took you so long?” You curiously asked the droid as it made unamused beeps. You placed a hand on its dome, and raised an eyebrow as the droid continued to make unsatisfied noises. EV then opened up one of its compartments where your hand was placed, causing you to retract your hand away. The droid broke out into even more angry beeps.
"I know, I know, I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do. I can’t bring you on this mission and that’s final" the droid wheeled back and twisted its head around, even teetering from one leg to the other, almost like a youngling having a temper tantrum.
"You've been around Artoo too much" you joked. EV stopped and wheeled up to you with a bit of force and bumped into your knees, nearly knocking you off your feet. You haltered the droid by putting your hand up in front of you and glared at it.
"Fine fine" you readjusted your position, now in a kneeling stance "You can prepare my ship-” EV started to beep happily “but I'm not promising that I'll need it" you gave EV a pointed look. EV ignored your words and continued to beep happily as it turned away from you and headed straight to the sector where your ship resided untouched.
"Blasted droids never’ listen" you rolled your eyes at the gruff voice and stood up from the ground, turning your whole body around, now facing an unhelmeted Wolffe.
"Not to you of course" you quipped, folding your arms and cocking your head to the side "I take it you're still not over the whole fiasco with Artoo and 3PO" you teased as you gave Wolffe a sly smile.
Wolffe scoffed and took his helmet from his right arm and switched it to his left. Keeping his eyes focused on the ground, he pushed his slightly cupped right hand towards you. You moved closer to him, eyeing the object in his hand curiously, he shook his hand a little, a sign to take it. With delicate fingers, you took the now obvious rounded pendant into your hand, the chain dangling down and grazing the back of your hand softly.
Carefully, you untangled the chain and held it up in front of you, the chain swayed, and gleamed from the lights above. Your eyes softened, you rested the pendent in your hand, bringing it closer to your face for further inspection. The pendant had a small engrave of what you assumed looked similar to the packs logo. Your finger lightly traced over the engraved markings, the small pendent feeling cool underneath your fingertip.
"An elderly native gave it to me as a thank you gift for helping them recover most of their belongings of what they presumed was lost during our relief mission." you looked away from the pendent and looked at Wolffe "They said it was made out of beskar, and recommended I gift it to someone who was worthy of having it" Wolffe met your eyes, and you smiled at him. For a moment, you felt like the luckiest person to coexist, then that quickly subsided. Your face faltered, having the mindset of being unworthy of a gift from him, especially something as rare as beskar.
“It’s beautiful Wolffe...but I just can’t-”
“Cyare this gift is meant for you and only you” Wolffe froze, his eyes widening a little from the small slip up. He blinked a couple of times before clearing his throat “What I mean is...this is a gift of gratitude, from me to you. Take it as a thank you for allowing me to serve alongside you”
You opened your mouth before closing it, Wolffe gave you a sincere and honest look. You nodded and graced a small grin on your face.
“Thank you for this, and it was an honor serving alongside you” Wolffe felt his heart ache, feeling as everything was coming to an end so soon.
Originally, he wasn’t planning on gifting the necklace to you this early on. A unsure master Plo had mentioned to him that you would take a separate ship to meet with master Yoda on Kashyyyk after fending off the separatists on Cato Neimodia.
Once Wolffe received this information, he had no other choice but to force himself to give you the necklace on short notice. He was just worried that he wouldn’t have another opportunity like this to give it to you.
“Wolffe I have to ask you something“ Wolffes brows raised at you, he examined your face noticing how you seemed hesitant. You fiddled with the necklace in your hand, now starting to feel anxious.
“That is?” He drawled as he gripped onto his helmet tighter.
Confrontation was never your thing, out in battle it was different. Being faced to face with someone alone and away from prying eyes was more of a nerve wrecking experience then expected.
“I was curious about-“ The call of both of your names caused you both to turn your heads towards the direction of the recipient. Plo made his way across the hanger as he looked between the two of you. Wolffe was quick to stand at attention, fixing his posture and clutching onto his bucket.
Plo stopped in front of you both.
“Commander Wolffe, I would like you to begin boarding protocols to your men”
“Yes general” Wolffe placed his helmet on top of his head and made way towards his comrades that were wondering around. Your eyes followed Wolffes retreating figure, then soon you looked back towards your Master.
“Nervous I sense” Plo held his hands behind him as he continued to take in your force signature.
“Just a little, but I’ll get over it” you shrugged and gazed down at the chain that was peaking out of your hand.
“No need to torture yourself with your worries of the Jedi councils decision. I for one know that you’ll make a fine Jedi knight” You bit the inside of your cheek and held onto the necklace a little bit tighter.
“But if they were to disagree, I’ll be sure to reconcile and talk with the Jedi masters in hopes of making them reconsider their choices, which I doubt is something I’ll have to do.” You nodded and kept your head low.
“Rest assure you’ll be just fine. Then again, if you can’t get over your nerves by the time you reach the bridge, just stick with the pack and if you have to, hold position till you feel okay, then do so” You took Plos words into consideration before mumbling a ‘yes master’.
“May I?” Plo pointed towards the Beskar necklace in your hand, you nodded and carefully handed it to him and turned around. Plo unclasped the chain and carefully placed it around your neck, in just a few seconds the hook was successfully secured into the eye clasp. He then let the ends go and backed a few steps away from you. You turned back around and thanked him.
“I’m surprised that you were able to do it so fast”
“Well, I did come to know two younglings who were very infatuated with necklaces during their youth” Plo grinned to himself, remembering both a young you and a young Ahsoka.
Plos comm link went off signaling that it was almost time to depart from the Venators hangar. Plo looked at you one last time and gave you a small nod.
“I trust you that the center bridge will be secured by the time we’ve finished off the separatists fleet?” Plo raised his brow bones up at you
“Yes master, we will be sure to secure the bridge and escort any remaining citizens to safety” you fixed your posture, now feeling a bit more confident than you originally were. Plo rested a hand on your shoulder.
“Good luck y/n, I’ll see you on the grounds before you know it.” Plo retracted his hand away from your shoulder “Be sure to watch out for the men” Plo turned around and walked the opposite direction to where the fleet and his ship were.
You brought up your hand and took the pendent in between your thumb and pointer finger, feeling the engraved logo. You looked over towards master Plo one last time before turning around and heading towards the LA/AT ships.
From a distance Boost eyes followed your walking figure, he turned his head to Wolffe who kept his head down.
“You didn’t tell them...did you?” Even if Wolffe couldn’t see Boost's face, he knew his vod was a bit disappointed.
“No...I didn’t. I just couldn’t bring myself to confess the way I originally planned to.” Wolffe said in a hushed tone. Sinker patted Wolffes back, providing a bit of comfort for his commander.
“It’s alright vod, you’ll get your chance another time” Wolffe sighed and clenched his fists as he adjusted his posture.
As you got closer to them, Wolffe was quick to move towards the LA/AT. Boost and Sinker shook their heads as they watched a retreating and irritated Wolffe bored the ship. Once you arrived, they were all quick to greet you while boarding alongside them.
You watched as the fleet took their departure, you blindly reached up and grabbed a hold of the handle bar. The ships blast doors closed slowly, the red emergency lights turned on, casting a red hue inside. You stared at the ship's door, it was too quiet for your liking. Only the sounds of your rapid heartbeat thrumming and a few feet scuffing on the ground.
Oh how you disliked these moments where everything felt so tense and the air seemed so thin. It was always you who started small talk with your comrades before and during transportation. But you couldn’t bring yourself to it.
You were just a mess.
The small rocking of the transport ship signaled that you were taking off. You clutched the handle a bit tighter to prevent yourself from losing balance, but also a way to keep you mentally grounded.
***
Entering into the Cato Neimodias atmosphere was a rough start. Explosions caused the ship to have minor turbulence, you all stumbled and clung onto the handles, even grabbing onto one another’s shoulder for balance. You quickly let go of the handle and latched onto the side of the ship next to the blast door.
The door you were next to slid open, you squinted your eyes from the reveal of the harsh lighting. Once your eyes adjusted, you poked your head out, observing as launched missiles had either bypassed transport ships or exploded mid-air.
One particular missile headed straight towards one of the transport ships, reaching your hand out, you made the missile take a detour before it could strike down the LA/AT.
The closer you got to the surface, various Starfighters and separatist ships had zoomed past. As soon as the center bridge's ground was in view you turned your head and signaled to Wolffe with a simple finger gesture, he nodded and grabbed hold of his pistols while the others adjusted their blasters.
You moved closer to the opening, taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly. Adrenaline pumped full speed through your veins, your heart beating at an unnatural rate. With one last final examination of the battle below, you quickly jumped out of the ship and landed elegantly on your feet.
Before any of the droids could turn around, you slashed through them with your blue lightsaber and pushed forward.
You continued to block blaster fire and as soon as you got closer to a few more droids, you raised your hand up, bringing the droids up with it and quickly formed your hand into a fist causing the droids to short circuit and crush into pieces.
Once the LA/AT ships landed, troopers were quick to get into fighting formation. Commander Wolffe, Boost, Sinker, and a few new recruits were quick to catch up with you as you deliberately blocked and slashed through various droids. The clustered together buildings on the bridge made the battle more difficult to move around and correlate properly.
You’re wondering eyes stopped on the sight of a tank moving foreword in the distance, no doubt preparing to strike. Everyone seemed to have noticed the distinct blue colored tank on the front lines of the separatists side.
You and your small group took cover behind a building right before a cannon blast had collided into the ground. You watched as a building crumbled, causing a few troops to yell out and take cover.
“So much for mild destruction” Boost shrugged his shoulders while Sinker snickered as he gripped onto his blaster rifle.
You peeked over the side of the building, glancing around for any potential advantage points. Your eyes landed on explosive barrels that were planted just near the active tank.
“Wolffe could you maybe fire a few shots at those barrels” you gestured your head in the direction of the explosives. Wolffe shifted in his spot, nearly leaning over you to get a look at the explosives.
Wolffe retreated backwards to avoid the possibility of being shot at “Will do” he nodded his head and positioned himself, focusing for a moment before firing a single blaster bolt, triggering the explosive barrels.
The tank exploded, alongside a few droids that were close by. With the tank gone, this gave you all a much greater advantage.
“I’m gonna lead first, I just need you and your men to cover me till I reach the center of the city” you turned your head towards the group of six. Boost and Sinker glanced at each other while the shines titled their heads in question. Wolffe raised his eyebrows slightly, his helmet raising up a bit which you instantly could tell he was about to scold you.
“Are you crazy? That’s suicide! You could-“
“I’m well aware Commander, but now is not the time to be arguing about this! Causing anymore destruction to the city, especially on a bridge, is the last thing we want to do” your eyebrows knitted together as you looked at his visor.
“Likewise, I trust you all with my life! Just this once, for the sake of the mission, follow my orders” Wolffe stared at you, he was indeed concerned for your safety, but he was a good soldier. Good soldiers followed orders.
He tilted his head down before nodding in approval “Fine. We’ll be sure to cover you” your face relaxed, you grinned at him before you turned away from the group and continued onward.
“That’s a Jedi for you” Boost half-heartedly joked while observing his commander who he could tell was internally worrying himself.
“Tell me about it” Wolffe grumbled before pressing down on the public comm link channel.
You heard faint orders from Wolffe telling the others through his comm to cover you as you proceed to clear out the rest of the way while they trailed behind you, making sure to finish off whatever you left untouched.
As the attack on the ground continued, the droids slowly started to retreat back, losing more ground as you and your men continued to take down all protocol droids, and various other commando droids. That high peak of adrenaline was quickly cut short
One of the various ships from the sky spiraled downwards causing Wolffe to yell out to ‘take cover’. You were quick to move out of the way of the crash landing ship. The impact caused a huge explosion, leading to various debris to fly around, damaging clustered buildings even more. After the explosion subsided, it was an obvious indication that the ship had caused a blockade, dividing you from the rest of the troops.
“Y/n are you alright?” You heard Wolffe shout from the other side of the crashed ship, you took a quick glance behind you and noticed droids coming your way. You snapped your head back towards the ship's direction, you cupped your hands around your mouth:
“I’m alright! Just find another way around!” You quickly ignited your lightsaber and heard a faint ‘yes sir’
Using your force sprint, you launched yourself off of a nearby crate. Having landed much closer to the enemy line, you reached your hand out and pushed half of the droids backwards, causing them to pile on top of each other.
You reached out to one of the battle droids and pulled it towards you, making sure to impale it with your blade. Once done, you discarded the battle droid by forcefully pushing it towards an oncoming group of droids, knocking them all off of their feet. You dodged multiple blaster bullets, before exterminating the remaining droids that were left.
You looked around, making sure there were no more droids. Sure enough there weren’t any around you. Looking briefly up at the sky you watched in awe as your master perfectly piloted his starfighter, taking out countless separatist ships alongside the fleet. You admired for just a moment, reminiscing on all the fond memories you had being raised and taught by Plo.
Emotional attachments were unacceptable in the Jedi order, but when it came to the people you truly cared about, it didn’t matter to you. You were not ashamed to accept that Plo Koon took on the mantle of a fatherly figure. If it weren’t for his kindness and his heart, you would’ve been nothing but a heartless, uneducated individual.
You were grateful for him being the man that you knew you could rely on.
Your body had suddenly flinched. A slow aching pain in your head started to form. You brought one hand up against the side of your head and pressed your fingers down. The sounds of incoherent yelling, conflict, and raw emotion was overriding your senses.
Suddenly everything stopped.
Your face was scrunched up in confusion as you wondered what that strange encounter was.
A shiver ran down your spine. The small act made you realize how unbalanced the force had become. Your eyebrows raised. You quickly looked up at the sky, and witnessed in horror as your masters ship was being shot at.
Your eyes widened and you started to panic as one of your own fleets pilot got a direct hit on Plos ships wing.
Your eyes stared blankly at the receding ship as it crashed into one of the cities towers right where the blockade was located. Your breath hitched, as you slowly walked backwards, now feeling terrified.
Your body shook unnaturally, unable to process the scene right before your eyes. Your bottom lip quivered, you looked down at your hand that was holding your lightsaber hilt, watching as it shook. Your instinct to fight and survive kicked in.
One faint nearby voice caused you to start sprinting towards the opposite direction. Yells had erupted and soon all hell broke loose.
You were stuck in a crossfire.
Pressing down on your comm link, you input your coordinates and sent them instantly to your droid. You brought your comm link close to your mouth and started urging your droid to start dispatching from the hanger.
“EV, I need you to autopilot the ship and come to my coordinates now!” You activated your lightsaber and skidded to a halt.
If it’ll take time for your ship to arrive, then you surely would make time.
The first initial sighting of one of the troopers, you quickly reached out towards a convenient stand and threw it towards the direction of the soldier. Knocking him and a few others that trailed behind him down.
Blaster fire soon erupted and you worked quickly by blocking and dodging. Every so often you’d notice a stray object at the corner of your eye and threw it towards their direction.
You knew you wouldn’t last for long with just continuously blocking blaster fire and throwing objects at them. You had to work quick before all odds were lost.
What worried you the most was how familiar they all were with how you fought and your infamous strategies. They knew how fast you could think and work which took them little to no time to adjust to your fast pace.
With your complete focus on the enemy in front of you, you completely casted aside your focus behind you.
A fiery graze against your bicep caused you to hiss and your hand holding your lightsaber faltered as another blaster fire grazed your wrist. You made a quick glance to the side and noticed Wolffe and a few other troopers forging their way towards you.
You backed up, continuing to dodge and block as much blaster fire as you could keeping hasty eyes to keep track of your vulnerable points. As soon as you nearly backed up into an abandoned barrier you gave yourself a boost with the force and did a backflip over it, landing right behind it.
Quickly gaining your balance on your feet, you threw both your hands out in front of you and forced pushed the barrier towards the troopers. The screeching metal against the pavement made you grimace at the ear-wrenching noise.
The ends of the metal barrier scraped against the nearby buildings; the buildings crumbled and collapsed into debris. The impact against the pavement caused a mixture of dirt and particles to fly in the air. One accidental inhale and you started coughing violently.
You wavered your hand in front of your face to shoo away the mixture, you scanned the perimeter and quickly turned around, continuing on your way.
You were nearly coming to the end of the giant rock arc, as it became more prominent in size. Fast winds soon started to pick up, now bringing in the atmospheres dense fog.
The motivation to survive turned futile. All you were doing at this point was wasting your energy, using up all your stamina. Everything in training felt like it was thrown out in space. You were unable to control your breathing, you continued to be reckless by using force techniques that were far more advanced and out of your radar.
The sound of your comm link beeping made you look down at your forearm. EV had sent a signal that the ship had just reached the atmosphere. You quickly imputed your new coordinates and sent the signal to your droid.
The fog had settled in, completely covering the whole area of the bridge. You listened around carefully, the sounds of the howling wind breezing by.
You clutched onto your saber, thumb already placed on the ignition pulse. You backed up slowly and carefully avoiding the rubble on the ground. The sound of metal scraping against the pavement made your eyes move around frantically.
You naturally synced into your fighting stance, preparing for the un-proclaimed attack. A gust of wind blew over your face, the cold stinging your skin. You continued to shuffle backwards cautiously, trying to pinpoint the enemy.
A sudden arm wrapped around your neck, causing you to gasp. On instinct you brought both of your hands up to the armored arm, and started to pry at the hold.
“Enough Jedi scum” the voice seethed, your eyes widened at the familiar gruff voice. Wolffe quickly brought his pistol towards the side of your head. You let one hand go of his arm, bringing it up towards his hand that held the pistol. You forcefully pushed against the pistols body, knocking it right out of his hand.
The small act caused Wolffe to become distressed as he struggled to maintain a decent hold on you. Making quick moves, you gripped onto his arm that was wrapped around your neck. You moved your body slightly forward, now handling his full body mass on your back, you body slammed him to the ground. His helmet had flung off of his head, discarded somewhere off to the side.
Wolffe yelped at the impact, he blindly moved his hand on the pavement, attempting to find his discarded pistol. You kicked the nearby pistol away from arms reach and stared blankly down at your commander.
He grimaced and glared up at you, distaste coursed through his system, his one good eye showing nothing but pure hatred. His chest rose up and down frantically.
In a situation like this, you’d feel proud of yourself. But this was reality.
He jutted up, quickly you stuck your hand out in front of you and pushed him back down to the ground with the force. Wolffe attempted to move his body, but to no avail he was unable to budge.
“I’ll kill you, I’ll kill each and everyone of you Jedi!” your hand that you were using started to shake. You felt the beskar pendent press against your chest, feeling as if it was burning a hole through your skin.
“Why? Why are you doing this to us? To me?” You whispered the last part to yourself. You studied Wolffes face, as his forehead creases became more prominent.
“Good soldiers follow orders” chills ran down your spine as you continued to watch Wolffe struggle underneath the force hold. The last strand of hope you held onto for dear life finally snapped.
You were mortified. Your stomach churned at the thought of how little time it took for them to change their motives on the both of you. Why? Why was this happening? You wished you could cry and scream out in anger, but now wasn’t the time.
The recognizable sounds of your starfighters engine became more distinct and loud. Looking up you noticed as your starfighter broke through the dense fog. You almost sighed in relief before gunships followed suite, attempting to gun down your ship.
In one swift move, you wavered your hand to the side, Wolffes whole body slid towards the direction your hand went. His plastoid armor scrapping against the duracrete.
Your feet moved on their own as you ran from the pilots blaster fire. Heat creeped up upon the back of your neck as more shots were fired down on the ground. Your frantic eyes observed as your starfighter had made a loop under the first bridge.
Your feet had sped up, your legs ached and the muscles burned.
Once you were close to the side edge of the bridge, anxiety and doubt started to cloud your mind. You shook the thoughts away as best as you could and dived off the bridge with no hesitation.
Falling felt so slow. The tension and the wind wavered against your body. You closed your eyes to calm yourself, keeping your attention on the distant engines coming closer.
You opened your eyes, and reached your hand out as your ship dived down with you, keeping a decent distances away from you. You pulled yourself towards the open hatch of the ship, your fingertips barely grazing the rim of the hatch. Continuing to reach, your fingertips soon got a hold of the rim; you laid your hand flat on the matrix armor and held on with a death grip as you struggled to bring your other hand to grasp the ring.
Maneuvering your body quickly, you got into the cockpit and closed the hatch. Pressing a few buttons you grabbed a hold of the steering handles and took over the starfighter.
Fighter ships soon trailed behind you, erupting in blaster fire.
“Shake them off of me EV” you flipped a switch and your droid whirled it’s head around and took over the small blaster cannon that was attached to the underside of the ship.
Your fingers quickly grazed over the small screen, blindly you input random coordinates to a random sector, one that you knew would be far away from the republic based planets.
Pulling back the steering handles, your ship pulled up fast. The dense fog soon engulfed your whole perimeter, small drops of water tapped violently against the viewport as the ship started to increase in speed. You’d managed to lose most of the enemy ships in the fog besides one.
Explosions erupted right next to your ship, shaking the entirety of the vessel violently. The flashing lights blinding you for a split second. Beeps started to alarm, signaling an oncoming missile was locked on your ship.
You embraced yourself and turned the stirring handles to one side, your ship soon started rotate at a fast pace. At the last minute, you made a loop over the ship that was in back of you and quickly went back in front of it. The tactic worked and the missile had struck the fighter ship that was trailing behind you. The impact had caused you to jolt forward and the ship shook while you successfully made it out of the planets atmosphere.
Those on the ground, were unable to tell if you were desecrated or escaped.
A now helmeted Wolffe stared up at the fogged sky, watching as a small flicker of light cascaded for a second before fading into nothing.
“Sir, there’s been no word from the piloting fleet as for the whereabouts of the Jedi’s ship” Wolffe looked towards Sinker before looking back at the foggy atmosphere.
“Tell the others to call off the search for now, we’ll be sure to hunt down the Jedi until they’re executed under Order 66” Wolffe walked off towards the remaining transport ships that were left unoccupied on the bridge.
Wolffe glanced over to the side, observing as his men inspected the remains of Plo Koons ship to assure the Jedi’s death was a success.
There was faint ache in his heart that he easily ignored. He turned away and continued to the transport ships.
****
You adjusted the rods of wood, and forced them down into the ground to keep them stable. The small fire crackled, the source of light wavering and illuminating the small shelter you made.
You landed on some unknown planet and were fortunate enough to have found few scraps of material near your location. You let out a soft huff as you sat down on the ground underneath the tarp. You wrapped your robes around you tighter, feeling a small gust of wind overpass your face and exposed skin.
The planet was cold and quiet, only sounds of a few chirps from birds in the distance and rustles from the trees. Your arm and shoulder blade hurt, all from the blaster fire that had managed to get a snag at your body.
You had no medical equipment, no bacta patches, nothing. You worried that your wounds would get infected if they weren’t treated anytime soon.
Carefully, you slid your robes off your body, alongside your top. You shivered at the contact the cool wether made with your upper bodies skin. The tank top that you left on did nothing to help with the cold.
You tore a long strip of fabric off your lose white ribboned tabard. You eyed the length of the fabric before wrapping it around your left side bicep. You winced at the uncomfortable contact the fabric made, it rubbed lightly against the blaster wound that was still oozing blood.
Tightly securing it with a decent knot, you ripped another piece with the same length and wrapped it around your dominate hands wrist. You grimaced at the irritating sting, your wrist hurt more than your bicep. You carefully put back on your robe, not bothering to secure it around you.
Letting out a shaky sigh you pinched the bridge of your nose.
Your eyes gazed down at the small fire, heat barely radiating from the flames. You brought your legs up to your chest and hugged them. EV beeped more quieter as the astromech droid wheeled up to you.
“We’re not going home EV” your voice was hushed, nearly cracking. EV beeped lowly, shifting to stand on its two legs. “Yeah bud...it’s over. Theres nothing for us to go back to...not unless we want to be killed like the others” you turned your head towards EV, placing a hand on its dome before retreating it back to pull at your robes. You sat quietly for a moment, thinking over thousands of thoughts that were running through your head.
“Everything we’ve been through...the losses, the near death experiences....we did it all for nothing.” You whispered to yourself, accepting your once overthought ideology that the Jedi were bound to fall to ruins at some point. But not in a million lightyears did you ever think the jedi would end like this.
You gently rubbed at your temples to sooth the small headache. EV opened up one of its panels, outstretching one of its tools. A blue hue started to illuminate, broadcasting one of the voice files that your droid commonly used for decoding or recording private messages.
The conversation had started off quiet. You were almost incapable of interpreting the words correctly, which you guessed that during the time of the recording, your droid was far off in distance from whoever the recipients were.
“You plan on giving the beskar pendent to them?” Your head slightly perked up, relishing at the familiar voice you could pinpoint out of all the clones.
“Yes...may not be much, but it’s all I can offer” there was a faint cling. On instinct, you brought your hand up to the pendent that rested against your chest.
You shut your eyes, squeezing them before burying your face into your hands. Curling into yourself more, you adjusted your hood over your head, and laid down on your un-injured side. A small piece of cloth was the only thing separating you from the dirt and blotched grass.
“I’m sure it will be enough for them. Besides, what that pendent is made out of is worth more then our own lives.” your eyes stayed glued to the fire as you continued to listen to the voice memo.
“I’m just worried that the gift won’t...benefit the both of us” Wolffe sighed to himself, feeling frustrated and conflicted from however he was feeling.
“It takes time Wolffe, you just need to have more patience’s, be more understanding of people instead of getting irritated and irrational over the simplest things” Comet studied Wolffes face, watching as his features softened before his brows creased together.
“Still, what can you do? A clone and a soon to be jedi knight going against the republics law and having secret retaliations together? We could both get in trouble, even worse, we can both get exiled which is the last thing I want to do” Wolffe stared down at the ground, compressing his human emotions. Comet shook his head and glanced to the side before looking back at Wolffe.
“I’d recommend you give it to them, even if you’re heavily influenced by wanting to be the best commander you can be. Then again, most rules are meant to be broken to help you improve and grow as a person” it was silent for a moment before Comet continued on “Plus their droid may just as well confess for you” Wolffe looked at Comet, then turned his head, witnessing as your droid retreated back to the hanger.
The audio files soon stopped playing, everything fell silent, just the sounds of the wind and the fire crackling. You blinked away your tears and looked at EV who beeped sadly.
“So that’s why you were late and Wolffe complained about you?” you said softly, gracing a sad smile on your lips before the corner of your lips turned down once more.
The real meaning behind the gift felt like a punch in the gut. It hurt. Terribly. It was worth more than simple admiration or representation of a ‘thank you’. There was much more behind the necklace then what was explained.
But what hurt more was the horrendous heartbreak and betrayal. The only people that you ever trusted and loved were gone. Plo, the only man you’d ever cherished and looked up to was wiped out of existence. The men you worked alongside with that you cared for wanted you dead. And Wolffe, Wolffe was a much more sensitive topic.
You were alone. You were alone and you’ve never felt more useless your whole entire life.
“I just wish we had more time” you murmured quietly to yourself, feeling as your eyes watered in mockery. You shut your eyes and a warm tear slid over the side of your nose and fell. Your tired and sore body ached for rest. Distant thunder rumbled, the noises seamlessly getting closer every minute.
The muffled noise lulled you into slumber as you snuggled into your robes even more.
The least you could do for yourself is rest one last time.

A/N: i wanted to create an experience with a genuine order 66 approach. since not much of the planets city was described, i had to do a bit of tweaking and research during the time to get it as accurate as possible. as you can tell i tried my best to write some action and i hope it fulfilled the standards. overall i hope it made up for my absences and broke your heart.
with love,

Dear Theodosia
Arc Trooper Fives/ Reader
Tumblr media
Fives burst into your room like a vulture droid was on his tail. You laughed slightly.
“I didn’t miss it did I? Kix he told me and the General let me go on the first transport back…” he faltered looking down at the baby girl in your arms.” Hi ik’aad.” He grinned.
“You want to hold her?” You placed the squirming bundle in his arms. You watched his heart melt. Not even a day old and she had her daddy wrapped around her finger.
“What to say to you?You have my eyes your mothers hair. I’m dedicating every day to you. Domestic life was never quite my style when you smile you knock me out I fall apart and I thought I was so smart.” He smiled down at her.” I promise that when I’m done the galaxy will be a safer place for you ik’aad.”
You snapped a few pictures and smiled.” Do you want to know what her name is?” He grinned even wider.” Tuli Eyayah l/n.”
“Eyayah?” Tears budded in his eyes.
“Echo was always her favorite.” You smiled.” It felt wrong if she wasn’t named after her favorite uncle.”
“Have I ever told you how much I love you?”
“All the time cyare all the time.”
He looked back down at Tuli.” Y/n she’s half me oh force. I flew and airwhale for kicks oh little gods. What are we gonna do.” You laughed.
“Fives it’s gonna be alright. We can handle it. Anything the galaxy throws at us. But you got to calm down.” He took a few deep breathes and looked back down at Tuli
“Ni kyr'tayl gai sa'ad. I know your name as my child.”
——————————————
“Welcome home!!” You laughed as Torrent flipped on the lights. There was a banner on the back wall of your apartment that said welcome home ik’aad in scrawled writing.
“You guys are supposed to be on Cato Neimodia how?” Fives beamed.
“Skyguy and I kicked ass and got us out early. You think we’d mis this Ori’vod?” Ahsoka smiled.” I’ve got a niece or nephew to spoil force knows Skyguy and Senator Amidala are taking long enough.”
“Commander.” Rex groaned slightly
“What everyone already knows.” She laughed
“Maybe but it makes me feel better to pretend they don’t.”
“Does the ik’aad have a name yet so we can stop calling them ik’aad.” Jesse interrupted.
“Boys meet my daughter Tuli Eyayah l/n.” Fives grinned.
Rex came up and pulled the three of you into a loose hug.” Congratulations you’re going to make wonderful parents.”
“Actually we want to talk to you.” Fives smiled.” If anything happens to either of us we want you to take care of her.” Rex pulled back.
“Fives I I don’t know that I can. We’re not made to last.”
“Rex I trust no one more to take care of her than you.”
“It’s a just in case. It was going to be Echo but..”
“Alright but nothing is going to happen to you if I can help it vod.” You handed Tup Tuli the younger trooper was fawning over her.
“Does she have a clone name yet?” He blinked up at me.
“No?”
“I guess we’ll just have to find her one then.” Hardcase exclaimed clapping his hand on my shoulder.” That’s a pretty sweet ik’aad you made there. Are we sure this is Fives kid she’s to cute.” He turned slightly
“We share the same face vod what do you mean?” Fives pouted
“Some of use just wear it better.” Hardcase smirked
“What like you?” Jesse laughed.” Come on the entire GAR knows Commander Cody is the prettiest.”
“Master Kenobi certainly thinks so. My turn.” Ahsoka laughed taking Tuli from Tup. She had an army of uncles at her disposal and an Auntie Soka.

trying to stick with Clone Wars timelines while writing fics is almost impossible. Check this out:
According to Wookiepeedia, the defense of Cato Neimodia (the battle Ahsoka and Anakin were on before the temple bombing) occured in the last month of the war.
Tumblr media
This makes absolute zero sense; because that would mean the entire events of season 6 and 7 occured in a span of that month which makes even LESS SENSE.
I'm just gonna assume this article is wrong but this just hurts my BRAIN

so the new Brotherhood novel moved “that business on Cato Neimodia” from right before ROTS in Labryinth of Evil to before TCW even starts, that means Anakin held that grudge for nearly three years

Maybe - Captain Rex x Reader
*All POV’s will be female unless requested otherwise*
So.... I’m in the mood for angst. This idea has been in my head for days, and I’ve been listening to a lot of instrumental soundtracks lately, which only fueled this (lots of Across the Stars and Burying the Dead). Eventually I decided to just sit down and write it.  Got pretty into italics with this one. It’s kinda long. Also this is the first time I’ve posted something like this, so I hope you like it :)
Part two can be found here!
Y/n: Your name
Y/l/n: Your last name
masterlist
***
You walked the never-ending halls of the Resolute, a neutral expression on your face. Your mental shields were strong, or as strong as they could be. You weren’t really sure if you were fooling anyone.
Hopefully you were, because if people (namely, other Jedi) sensed your inner turmoil, things could go horribly wrong; after all, Jedi don’t feel this way. They don’t spend their nights crying silently, hoping that nobody hears. They don’t simultaneously curse and cherish their memories with a particular person. Jedi do not have broken hearts.
Because a broken heart could mean you broke up with someone. And to do that, it usually means you fell in love.
And Jedi do not fall in love.
Except... when they do.
***
It started two years ago, when the war had just begun. When you had first stepped foot onto the Venator-class starship that would soon become your home. When you met him.  Your captain, CT-7567. Rex.
“Hello, Captain.”
“General.”
“Sorry, do you have a preferred name? Seems we should get to know each other a bit.”
“It’s Rex, General.”
“Well, Rex, I look forward to working with you.”
“And I you, Sir.”
That’s where it all started- and eventually ended.
***
The war was hard on everyone. You watched as the people you knew so well started to- well, change. Anakin seemed angrier, Obi-Wan more stressed, and you… you seemed, for lack of a better word… hollow. The men dying all around you, your order seemingly breaking (you were never meant to be soldiers, yet you lead men who had never known anything else), it felt like you were being crushed on the inside. Yet, you had him.
He was there.
Whether it was quiet talks in the night, locked eyes in the briefing room, or a lingered touch in a turbulent LAAT/i, he was there. The war escalated and the world changed and sometimes it felt like your soul was on fire with pain- but he was there, until he wasn’t.
Eventually it really was too much. The war put a strain on an already fragile relationship (Jedi are not meant to fall in love). The threat of you being caught had always loomed heavily on both your heads. You would be expelled from the only family you’d ever known… and he would be court-martialed, or worse- decommissioned. The thought of the man you loved being cast aside and killed for following his heart plagued you with fear.
Fear was not the Jedi way.
You started fighting. Little things, that sometimes exploded into larger issues. The survivors’ guilt and the stress of so many battles (you never knew what the next day would bring; could one of your names be added to the list of remembrances? You didn’t know… and didn’t want to, ever) made you both edgy and it was hard to discuss it without conflict.
Your relationship burned bright for so long until it crumbled.
“So, that’s it then? A year, and then… we’re just… done?”
“I think that would be best, Sir.”
“Don’t! Don’t call me that! Not now! Right now, I’m just Y/n, and you’re just Rex. You and me! What happened to that?”
“It’s not right, General-” “Stop calling me that!”
“It’s what you are! You’re the general, and I’m the captain. Jedi and clone. That’s all it ever should have been, and it has to go back to that.”
You were supposed to be the composed one… but your emotions were spiraling and gripped your heart. “I won’t let it.”
“You don’t get to decide that, Sir.”
“Rex, I-” You choked out, but couldn’t finish. You didn’t even know what to say. What would fix it?
You just watched as he put his helmet back on and left your room quietly.
With your head in your hands, you tried, really tried, to repress the tears- until you couldn’t.
***
If your Co-General and Commander noticed your changed demeanor, they were kind enough not to mention it. You and Anakin used to have a game, of sorts, of who could get away with the craziest maneuvers on the battlefield without an injury- whether it be jumping out of a flying LAAT/i, taking on a whole droid squad alone, or grabbing onto a rocket droid like a speeder. You and Ahsoka would team-up and tease Anakin together pretty often around the ship. But that all changed.
You wouldn’t take on as many droids alone- something Kix was probably happy about. The crazier ideas all came from Anakin, the more “sane” (as the rest of the legion would call it) plans came from you. Ahsoka would poke fun at Anakin while you watched with a forced almost-smile. Actually, that forced content on your face was probably your most common expression these days.
Life took on a grayer hue.
So, you worked on shielding and repressing, keeping your pain hidden until the dead hours of the night.
***
Were the hallways smaller, now? It felt like it. Every turn, every corridor, no matter where you went, it felt like he was always there. Somehow, you ran into him everywhere, with a shallow nod and the slightest of glances.
2 years. Strangers. Friends. Lovers… Then strangers again.
It was a cruel cycle.
***
For a while, you had thought about requesting a battalion to lead alone. At the beginning of the war, you had been assigned to co-lead the 501st due to your familiarity with Anakin- both Crechemates and eventually Padawans with your masters as good friends, you spent a lot of time together growing up. The Council felt it would be good to have their resident loose-cannon lead a legion with another, to make sure he didn’t go too off the rails.
What the Council hadn’t realized was that yes, while you were the more rational of the pair, you enjoyed Anakin’s crazy plans- most of the time. Sometimes, they really were insane, which was where you stepped in.
A bonus of being assigned to the same legion was that you met Ahsoka. The young Togruta sometimes felt like your own Padawan, and you adored her. She was endlessly curious and brave, and wise beyond her years. And you grew even more proud of her as she grew up.
Now, she was older, and more experienced- and as she came into her own, you realized you weren’t always needed anymore. Granted, the missions were sometimes shorter and had more solid planning due to having an extra Jedi General around, but your presence was no longer a necessity. Anakin and Ahsoka would do just fine without you. Besides, leading a legion as large as the 501st meant you had to watch more and more clones be taken with every battle. The longer the war went on, the more recruits there were (who seemed to be getting younger all the time).
And even though it was selfish, with your own legion you wouldn’t have to be around Him all the time. Maybe it’d be nice, to be away from him; maybe you could heal without the pain of it all filling you when you saw him. Maybe.
You could handle your own battalion. You were capable, and more than ready. You knew this, but didn’t necessarily like it.
***
Eventually, you reached a decision. It was the last thing you wanted, to leave Him; you loved him fiercely, still. Yet, leaving was what you needed. You had to be at your best to lead the troops, and lately, your best was sloppy. It was time to reign in your emotions and gain control again.
Of course, nothing was final, but the feeling of something ending echoed around you.
The last time eating in the mess with the men who almost felt like brothers.
The last time going through a briefing with your Co-General, watching Admiral Yularen’s face fill with exasperation and irritation as Anakin laid out a daring plan.
The last time you met His warm Golden-Brown eyes in the halls.
Your comm chirped, and you ducked into an empty storage closet to take the call. You were met with Masters Yoda and Windu’s holographic forms.
“Something you wanted to discuss, you had, young Y/l/n?”
“Yes, Master Yoda.”
***
A week later, you stood in the briefing room with the usual command crew: Anakin, Ahsoka, Admiral Yularen, and Him.
Deep breaths, Y/n. In, and out. “I called this meeting because I have some… news, and I thought you should be the first to know.” You glanced around at them, swallowing. “I’ve requested to lead my own battalion- and it’s been granted.” Letting that sink in, you continued: “I’m leaving at 0800 tomorrow morning, in my fighter. I’ll head to Coruscant, where I’ll meet the men, and then we’ll ship out sometime next week.”
Silence.
Anakin was the first to speak. “What do you mean you’re leaving?”
“I’m getting my own battalion. I requested it a few days ago.”
“Why?” You heard the growing anger in your friend’s voice and decided to tread carefully.
“Anakin, you don’t need me here anymore. Ahsoka’s more than qualified to lead the 501st with you, and with the war- there’s more and more troops who need leading, and not enough Jedi to do it. But I can, and I have to; It’s my duty. The Council agreed with me.”
“Y/n, when did you talk to the Council about this?”
“A few days ago- but it’s been on my mind for a while.” You said gently. You didn’t meet His eyes, didn’t even look over there; if you did, your resolve would crumble. You just kept your gaze on Anakin, occasionally looking to Ahsoka. She looked surprised, and a bit sad, but understanding. Anakin looked… well, it was wise to be cautious of your tone.
“Do you know where you’ll ship off to?” Ahsoka asked politely.
“Not yet, but I’ve heard that it might be Cato Neimodia, or maybe Anaxes. I can’t be sure, though.” You looked down. “I just thought you all should know first.”
“Well, best of luck, General. It’s been an honor.” Admiral Yularen nodded at you, then went out to the bridge. Eventually, Anakin and Ahsoka left too, the latter guiding her Master with a soft hand on his arm.
That left you and the Captain. Alone, for the first time in weeks.
“So… your own battalion. That’s… big news,” He said quietly. “I know you’ll do well.”
“Thanks, Rex,” You practically whispered. “I’ve enjoyed our time together,” You met his eyes briefly, barely keeping the floodgate of emotions at bay. “I’ll miss working with you.” I love you. I love you more than anything.
He nodded. “And I you, General.”
***
You left that next morning, with your men watching from the hangar. His presence, the one you had treasured and held onto like a lifeline... the one that got you through the worst of it all, the one you had loved (and still did, so much), stayed behind, slowly fading from the forefront of your mind.
It’s for the best.
Maybe you’d start to heal.
Maybe.
Fin.

A Chance Encounter (Savage Opress x reader) Part 2
{Masterlist}
Summary: the reader needs protection from bounty hunters and decides that her only option is the man with a higher bounty
Notes: Female pronouns, slow-burn
Warnings: Mentions of injury, purposefully stiff/dismissive dialogue throughout a lot of it (it’s a slow-burn, I have to start somewhere), purposefully strenuous relationship
Words: 1556
<- Prologue
…………………………………………..
3 weeks later
Blaster bolts and frantic chirping was what roused you from your nap. With an undignified snort and a mad scramble to get your feet off the console, you dove for the communicator and activated it, which revealed the image of Savage. His wrist was raised to his face and he looked focused as he deflected the blaster bolts of what was undoubtedly a group of hunters. “Y/n, get the ship ready for take-off.” Savage barked into his comm.
“Where to, sir?” You quipped immediately, already hovering over the pad to punch in coordinates.
“Cato Neimodia.”
You nodded in response despite knowing he couldn’t see you and began to punch in the coordinates for the planet. With the computer beeping to confirm your location, you returned your attention to Savage. “Coordinates programmed, need me to come pick you up?”
“Yes.” Savage growled low though it wasn’t directed to you. The holo-image of Savage crouched low, bringing his double-bladed saber across his chest. The golden zabrak was careful to keep his communicator’s wrist close to his face in case he needed to bark more orders at you.
You moved swiftly, nimble fingers dancing over the controls as you locked in Savage’s target. “I’ve got a lock, on my way, sir.” You end the call as the hijacked ship’s engines roar to life, slowly lifting you into the air. The stolen nubian ship handled like a dream as you glided over the sandy dunes of the random wild space planet you and Savage had wound up on thanks to his mysterious talisman which seemed to glow on a whim. To be honest, you were certain Savage was on a wild goose chase across the galaxy (he hadn’t told you why he had the necklace and you didn’t care enough to pry) but so long as he continued to protect you from those that sought your head on a silver platter, you would happily go along with the insanity.
You were swiftly approaching Savage indicated by the increased chirping emitting from the scanner and soon enough, the telltale sight of blaster bolts came into view atop one of the dunes. As you crested over the top, you were able to take stock of how many hunters Savage was up against. From the looks of it, five but one was dead already-lying face down in the sand. The other four had surrounded Savage who was carefully deflecting as many blasts as he could. Flicking a switch, you readied the guns on your own ship and opened fire-careful to avoid accidentally hitting your companion. The bounty hunters scattered to avoid your attack and you couldn’t help but smirk-it seemed as though your lessons with the pilots of your home planet were paying off. In the brief interim created by your attack, you landed the starship in front of Savage, encouraging him to get on.
As soon as you saw that your companion had made in on board, you took off, leaving the bounty hunters in the dust. As the desert planet faded into the distance, Savage entered the cockpit, footsteps heavier than normal which told you he was exhausted. You glanced at him out of the corner of your eye. “You look exhausted, sir.” You hummed as he fell into the other chair. The zabrak grumbled in reply, eyes closed. “I’m about to make the jump to hyperspace.” Your voice was quiet now as a way to avoid enraging your companion. Savage mumbled his approval and that was all you needed to continue. As the stars began to zoom past you in a blue blur, you flicked on autopilot and turned your chair to face the man. He was injured as well, not horribly but it was evident that he had taken some hits. A black eye was forming already and his lip was swollen on one side-indicating a fistfight. There was also a scratch on his left cheek that was steadily leaking blood. “You’re injured, I’ll get the medkit for you.” No reply. You stood up and made your way further into the ship-past the collapsed medical droid that Savage had punted across the ship the last time he was injured. Moving the downed robot to the side, you began digging through drawers in search of the aforementioned medkit.
You had developed a sort of routine with the yellow zabrak already despite not knowing him long. He’d go out in search of information, you’d stay with the ship, he’d come back injured, and you would find him the medkit and then stay put to open or hand him whatever he needed. Savage didn’t like you directly helping him with his injuries which was fine by you-you didn’t want to help him anyways especially not after witnessing what he did to the droid. A part of you felt guilty for not pressing to help him but then again, you were only helping him in the first place so you didn’t die. And part of not dying was making sure you didn’t piss off the man acting as your protection.
With medkit in hand, you returned to the cockpit where Savage had moved to your chair to look out at the boring bright blue of hyperspace. He always did that though you never understood his fascination with the speedy form of travel. You cleared your throat to get his attention and the looming zabrak slowly turned on his heel, crossed arms coming down to rest at his sides. Wordlessly, you held up the medkit and padded over to his side. “What led you to Cato Neimodia, sir?” You asked tentatively to break the heavy silence that always permeated the area between you two. You never truly liked silence, having come from a busy planet perpetually buzzing with life and movement.
“The bounty hunters mentioned it.” Savage answered plainly, eyes watching your every movement as you combed through the kit for antiseptic and bacta patches. You handed them to him, careful to avoid touching Savage’s hand with your own. Your head bobbed thoughtfully, eyes trailing away from the zabrak down to the blinking lights of the controls. Savage grunted suddenly, catching your attention. The man, however, was focused on his right arm as he held it out to the side. His saffron eyes combed over the muscular appendage and you couldn’t help but look as well.
“You got shot, sir…” You observed when your eyes combed over his tricep.
“Seems so.” Savage grunted back to you but you had already begun rummaging through the kit for bandages. Locating the roll of the white gauze, you carefully began to unroll it enough so Savage wouldn’t have too much hassle getting it wrapped around his arm. Savage took the offered medical supply without a word, beginning to wrap his arm while you dutifully held the roll for him. When the male deemed he had enough he went to tear the gauze but found himself struggling as his other hand was useless to him at the moment.
Noticing it, you met his eyes questioningly in a silent investigation into whether or not you could help. He grunted to signal you could. Reaching to your belt, you grabbed a vibroblade to cut the gauze and tie it off to keep the bandage from moving. Without thinking to ask, you set about patching up the rest of his injuries for Savage who made no move to stop you. “There you are, sir.” You hummed when you had finished. As you turned to pack the kit back up, Savage spoke.
“Why do you call me that?” His rumbling voice startled you though you did your best not to show it as you turned to meet his eye. “Why do you call me ‘sir’?” He elaborated upon noticing the confusion.
“I am in your service, Savage-at least while you are protecting me from the hunters.” You explained simply, rather perplexed as to why he didn’t understand. On your planet, if someone did a service for you that protected you in any way you were to treat them as though they were above you which meant you called a lot of people ‘sir’ or ‘miss’ or ‘madam’. “I was taught that you call anyone who protects you by their proper title.”
“Don’t call me it anymore. There is no need for dominance between us, Y/n.” Savage’s voice was quiet which wasn’t much of a surprise but it was intense. There was some strange animosity attached to the idea of being addressed in such a manner that you did not understand.
“Forgive me, Savage, I’ll try not to let it happen again.” You drawled uncertainly with a dip of your head. The zabrak grunted but you did not stick around to hear anymore as you skirted out of the room with the medkit. You didn’t know anything about Savage and you knew that the only way you could learn about him was to talk but...why bother? As soon as you helped him, you would be en route to Coruscant to plead your case to the Senate to call for action. Savage was just a stepping stone. You weren’t supposed to get attached to stepping stones. But still, you could feel the familiar spark of curiosity calling you to speak with the yellow zabrak currently standing in the cockpit, equally conflicted.

Watching the Clone Wars, part 6
Congratulations, everyone!  This past week we reached the rare episode I physically could not complete, and we actually just skipped it and moved on to the next episode.  So with that said, click keep reading to see reviews of "Bounty Hunters", the Zillo Beast arc, "Senate Spy", and the first three episodes of the Geonosis arc:
"Bounty Hunters" (2x17)
So, I love how the episode starts out with Anakin and Obi-Wan (both of them important military figures with thousands - perhaps tens of thousands - of soldiers under their command) going off to investigate the disappearance of a medical station full of injured clones.  Spoiler alert, the episode never really clears up the mystery - or rather, it briefly implies all those injured clones are dead before getting on to the real story at hand, a... redux of Seven Samurai!  I have to admit, I found this a bit repetitive at first, but that's mostly because I recently watched The Mandalorian's Seven Samurai redux.  I love remixes of the Kurosawa classic, but twice in a month is a little much.
Anyway, once you forget about the clones as the writers so clearly want you to, the episode isn't bad.  Felucia is just really pretty, and the story itself is executed passably well.  Obi-Wan is starting to show the cracks, by the way - his reference to defending people who won't defend themselves is...telling.  Anyway, the bounty hunters are so anodyne that I forgot their names almost immediately after viewing the episode.  Hondo was, as always, a ridiculous villain. That's all for the good, honestly, because thus far TCW is not very good when it's trying to tell serious stories.  The story is neatly wrapped up with Hondo cutting his losses, and Obi-Wan and his children catch a ride off Felucia with the bounty hunters.
Lastly, can I say how disappointed I am that no one in fandom has seen fit to write Obi-Wan Kenobi/Sugi FWB?  C'mon guys, that feels like a slam-dunk right there!
"The Zillo Beast" (2x18)
It's a Godzilla homage, or maybe King Kong?  Either way, it's a Palpatine and Anakin episode, and like all Palpatine and Anakin episodes it mostly serves the purpose of:
a) showing how horribly evil Palpatine is
b) how little power the Jedi have to counter his goals
c) Anakin is falling to the Dark Side and it's scary
a) and b) are both reasonably good storytelling goals, but I wish they were integrated more cohesively into the plot.  Like Cade Bane and the holocron arc, limiting these stories to little episodic islands is a bit amateur for the writing team.  Personally, I feel like c) is a lost cause, but that's basically the fault of George Lucas's bad pacing issues.  Dude had Anakin cross his moral event horizon less than halfway through the Prequel trilogy, and nothing anyone has tried has been able to salvage the character.
"The Zillo Beast Returns" (2x19)
And the inevitable follow-up to Palpatine's decisions.  To be honest, the writers hewed a little too closely to the plot of Godzilla/King Kong/Jurassic Park - I found this episode to be very depressing due to the tragic death of the Zillo Beast, which is, after all, just an innocent animal being tormented for Evil Science.
"Senate Spy" (2x04)
And this right here was the first episode we went ahead and skipped!  That's right, I finally found an episode so awful I couldn't bear to watch it even as background noise.  Anidala-focused?  Check!  Anakin being a teenage boy jealous of his girl's prior hookups?  *barf* Check!  The Jedi conducting an intelligence mission on a Senator of "the Banking Clans", using another Senator as an operative?  Oh Lordy, check!  Padme, a Senator of the Republic, going to Cato Neimodia, to observe another Senator leads negotiations with the Trade Federation, a group the Republic is currently at war with?  Furthermore, a group that hates Padme's guts for her successful expulsion of their invasion from her planet ten years before???
Fuck my life, CHECK.  My friends graciously assented to us moving on the next episode, because I just could not take this mess.
"Landing at Point Rain" (2x05)
I call this the "saving private ryan episode", and I think that fits.  I don't necessarily think there's anything terrible about the episode - it's all pretty much action, start to finish - but it's not really excellent either, if that makes sense.   Mostly I just like looking at the nose art and different clone trooper armor styles in this episode.  Also amazed that we have a scene of the GAR literally flame-throwing the native species of the planet, because as we all know, that's totally suitable for a kids' show.
"Weapons Factory" (2x06)
And it's time for another Luminara episode!!!!   Guys, I love her, even though I don't feel she's used very well in this episode.  Also the first introduction of Barriss, who I also love.  This was actually a really great Ahsoka episode, at least in my opinion, and I don't think we've seen too many of those so far.  The mission is one that actually makes sense (I mean, for a certain value of sense, anyway) for two Padawans to be on, and it's good to see Ahsoka interact with someone on the same level as her.  Anakin's story... again, i just feel like they're shoe-horning in his Inevitable Fall to the Dark Side at every possible instant, which means that Luminara has to serve as an Moral Lesson, which means that she acts sort of weird from a character perspective in order to provide a foil to Anakin's behavior.  It lacks verisimilitude.
"Legacy of Terror" (2x07)
And it's time for the zombie episode!  I am not fond of horror as a genre, so my eye is untutored, but I think this episode was actually reasonably good?  Luminara's characterization reverts to a more naturalistic course since the story take precedence over the thematic message in this episode.  We also get to see Obi-Wan Kenobi, the most annoying fucking friend/older brother in the galaxy.   The little defeated sigh Anakin releases before stating "I think the nose" just says multitudes about their relationship over the years.
And that's it for this batch of episodes.   I'll be back in a day or two to complete my viewing of the final episode of the Geonosis arc, a few one-off episodes, and then the TCW arc that actually made me quit watching the series the first time around.

One of my absolute favourite things when creating characters with a lot of shared history is noodle incidents. For people who haven't fallen down a TV tropes rabbit hole only to emerge three hours later, a noodle incident is an event from the past the characters reference without giving much detail on it. A (non-eu) star wars one is when Anakin and Obi-wan are talking about Anakin saving him and Obi-wan insists that the business on Cato Neimodia doesn't count. An example from my own life would be when my best mate and I talk about heatwaves or school, one of us will inevitably bring up 'the tuna attack'. It gives some form of reference but doesn't elaborate on what happened.
I think it's both realistic (because why would they explain in detail, the other people were there and know what's being talked about) and creates an 'off-screen' life and history that I can have fun with. That being said, never have I met a writer who has written in a noodle incident reference that doesn't know everything about that incident but knows it would make no sense to go into detail about it.
