Reprogrammed my own brain by realizing that people don’t just get your devotion outright, but have to work for it. You do not go from 100 to 0 as people fault u. You go from 0 to 100 as they prove bit by bit that they are worthy of ur trust and patience. I used to be infinitely patient & understanding bc I thought that was my “gambit”—an initial investment I was hoping would beget more investment from the other party. I don’t do that shit anymore bc it has never served me once. I will show kindness and compassion to someone, but unless they prove they’re willing to put in the work to make a relationship work (platonic or romantic alike), I’m not going out of my way to emulate patience bc I’m hoping that somehow that will change them. Never ever ever. Humans almost always never work like that. They either give a fuck when they see you’re on the outs w them and change, or they don’t and you’re better off. It’s not “you’re worthy of my time until proven otherwise.” It’s “you’re not worthy of extra effort by me until proven otherwise.” And that may sound harsh but it’s healthier than the opposite approach

saw this tiktok of a girl frustrated about people having self-centered conversations, i.e. someone not responding to anything you say about yourself, only expecting you to show interest in what they say, and speaking as if you're not there. well you can actually beat this one folks! there was a guy I talked to for a while who had the most self-centered conversations with me ever, but so did I with him. so we went back and forth talking to ourselves until one day he gets bored and asks me a question about...things I shared?! and now he converses 'normally' for the most part. because I didn't give him the satisfaction he wanted so he straight up gave up. now I no longer speak to him in a self-centered in response as I feel like i'm no longer the only person expected to try.
ultimately if you match someone's self-centeredness they will be forced to change their behavior in order to engage with you. or get bored and leave you, of course, but it's not a huge loss if the relationship isn't enjoyable.
i'm sure everyone has had a conversation like this before. it's pretty common due to the simple fact that everyone likes to feel acknowledged by the person they're talking to. it will only become a problem if you have zero response to what the other person is saying. at that point it's barely a conversation between two people.

“jesse. i don’t know. WHAT would make you think that i would EVER sell you to one direction. really, just calm down and think about this logically, think about it. what would i possibly gain from selling you to one direction?? i don’t even know how one would get into contact with them. please, just take a moment and think—really think—about who WOULD be able to contact such a famous band. a man of high social standing, right?? a notable businessman, who—what?? this envelope of loose british pounds in my hand?? jesse, ive always had this—”

This 1915 building was once Baltimore (Maryland) City Library #11. It's been converted into a loft style home made for entertaining. 3bds, 4ba, $1.050M. Problem is that it wasn't very well planned. I'm a librarian and would need millions more to redo it, even though it would my dream home.
The main floor is a huge entertaining space.
You could probably rent this out as a venue, too, but this isn't a kitchen.
These must've been the stairs to the stacks. I'm surprised that there's no elevator. But, then how did they bring book trucks up for reshelving on the tiers? Could that narrow door on the left be a small elevator? And what about ADA compliance? It was a public building. Apparently, the whole building has a security system, 'cuz Baltimore. This would be hard to secure, heat and cool.
This is the only kitchen, so if you rented it out, the public would have to use your kitchen. This is just awkward and it looks like it's located in the storage room.
More entertaining space up here. They must've gotten a deal on tables and chairs.
There are lots of seating areas.
One of the bedrooms.
An exposed brick shower. I can't see the flooring, but from what I can see, it's looks like you'd have to wear flip flops.
Small shower room. Cute.
Tons of empty living spaces. I really think that it could've been configured differently, but it probably would've cost millions.
Another sitting area. According to the description, there are 2 fireplaces that they don't show.
Nice bath. What are the sticks above the shower. Looks like a piece of marble tile is missing on the tub surround.
This is at the top of the building on the observation deck. It could be nicer.
View of Baltimore.
A glass tower.
Huge basement. More potential.
Still looks like a library, architecturally.
I guess that's the secure parking area on the right. It has space for 4 cars, plus an electric garage door. But, is there parking to make it an event venue, or to even have guests? I hate to say it, but I think it's going to be a hard sell.
