So to start off my account, I suppose I'll info dump on one of my two Undertale AUs, UnderRule (name's a possible wip).
Plain and simple it's a AU open to the community based on one of my favorite video games, Ocarina of Time. The characters and some elements from Undertale will be put into the story of OoT.
About two or so years ago I wanted to create a UT AU to call my own and I thought of one of my favorite video game series (and the first video game series I've ever played Link to the Past). When I started thinking of which of the many games to draw inspiration from, I first picked Ocarina of Time and that's when I found there's so many similarities. The Deltarune symbol and the Hyrule royal family crest being similar, the fact that there are six human souls (not counting the player character) and six medallions, and several of the characters fitting well together between the two games.
I wasn't sure if I wanted the UT characters to be placed in the world of OoT (just kinda swapping places with them, being above ground), or still being in the Underground. I think picking both is the better option. Although, I'm not sure how a underground desert would work with no sun and all that (kinda an aesthetic type of thing). Not sure if some places will get their names from UT or OoT (Hotland/Death Mountain for example)
Frisk (Link) has to venture around to free Boss Monsters who have been corrupted into Amalgamates. They can either pacify them, returning them to their original state, or kill them. Both tasks can be carried out with items Frisk finds along their way, resulting in either a Pacifist or Genocide route.
There won't be any time travel and the first three dungeons (Deku Tree, Didongo's Cavern, Jabu Jabu's Belly) will be merged with the others (Forest Temple, Fire Temple, and Water Temple).
I have most of the main cast picked and the reasons behind it, so....
Frisk (Link) - Starts in Temmie Village. Has a Temmie companion who "helps" in Frisk's journey. Route depends on which items they use and how they use them. I originally (and very briefly) thought to put Sans in this role, but quickly changed it, as he's not the main character.
Chara (Zelda) - Their motivations and the ending of the storyline will depend on which route Frisk takes. Might have them be friends with Asriel, might not.
Temmies - Takes place of the Kokiri and the faries. One accompanies Frisk on their journey. Will try to convince them against the Genocide Route.
Flowey (Ganondorf) - Is not connected to Asriel. Will probably take the form of a large flower monster normally. Final Boss form is Omega Flowey. I don't think I've seen a AU where Asriel and Flowey aren't connected, much less Flowey being his own monster.
Sans (Happy Mask Salesman) - Might reference having dreams of alternate events happening or deja vu. Might even comment on the Moon looking different or how the mask he sells have a mind of their own.
Papyrus (Running Man) - Runs around to train to be in the Royal Guard. Could also be a postman.
Alphys (Lake Scientist) - "Likes to study fish." Her and Undyne are probably together.
Napstablook (Guy in Windmill) - Probably wouldn't mind if the windmill was messed up. Could be a form of a jukebox where Frisk could listen to all the music they've discovered or come across (such as overworld themes) and remixes of those songs.
Gaster (Poe Collector) - Once Frisk completes a sidequest for Sans, they can obtain a mask that looks similar to Gaster. Would allow them to find Gaster and take on a sidequest to look for his missing fragments.
Nicecream Guy (Magic Bean Seller) - Maaaybe? Although, this could be Sans too since he works as both sentry and a hotdog(cat) salesman. He also tries to sell you snow while increasing the price.
Burgerpants (Fisherman) - In OoT you can steal the fisherman's hat and drop it in the pond.
River Person (Malon/Epona) - The only character I can see for Epona and being able to travel faster.
Shyren (Scarecrows) - Once Frisk befriends her, they can make up a song with her. Once they play/hum/whistle it, she will be summoned(?) and help Frisk get to hard to reach areas.
Dog Guards, Rabbit and Dragon Knights (Royal Guardsmen) - Self explanatory.
Muffet (House of Skulltula) - Will be looking for her lost spider friends. Will reward Frisk with various items, discounts, and hints. Will still run a bakesale.
Monster Kid (Kid in Graveyard) - Looks up to Undyne and the Graveyard is right where the Shadow Temple is in OoT.
Asgore (Rauru) - Sage of Justice (Light). Orb of light instead of owl? Does talk to the player every time you die and when you sleep after fighting Toriel in Undertale. Separated from his family?
Asriel (Skullkid/Saria) - Sage of Kindness (Forest). Close friends with Frisk. Not connected to Flowey. Separated from his family?
Grillby (Darunia) - Sage of Bravery (Fire). Runs a bar in Hotland. He and the other fire monsters take the place of the Gorons.
Metaton (Ruto) - Sage of Patience (Water). He and the other monsters from Waterfall take the place of the Zoras. Originally thought to give Ruto's role to Gerson, but the whole thing with the Zora's Sapphire being a engagement thing in OoT would've been weird if people in the Undertale community drew fanart of the whole scenario. Metaton does wear a dress and sings to Frisk in Undertale and the Lake Labratory (by extention Alphys) is near where you can enter Zora's Domain, so it fits better.
Undyne (Impa) - Sage of Perseverance (Shadow). Captain of the Royal Guard and Chara's bodyguard. Her and Alphys are probably together. Wouldn't be surprised if people thought I'd give Ruto's role to Undyne, but she fits better as Impa. When you first meet her in Undertale, she's in shadows stalking you and even disappears in them. She directly associated with royalty as she is the head of the Royal Guard.
Toriel (Nabooru) - Sage of Integrity (Spirit). Her and the other monsters from the Ruins take the place of the Gerudo. Separated from her family?
I think it'd be cool to see Toriel go from sweet motherly figure, to ruthless fighter. That and I think seeing her in the Gerudo outfits would look pretty. Maybe even having the curved swords they fight with?
Mini games/sidequests:
Mask Shop- This would open up a side story type of thing between Sans and Papyrus and allow you to get a mask that would help you find Gaster. It would follow the same path (and maybe add more characters to give masks to). The Keaton Mask could be a Toby Mask that allows you to get past the guardsman towards Death Moutain/Hot Land. The Skull Mask would be something you'd give to Asriel (although, not sure if it'd still be a skull mask. He might find it cool). I can see the kid in the graveyard/Monster Kid looking up to Undyne and wanting to be scary and cool like her, so the Spooky Mask could look like her or resemble her helmet. And Papyrus trying to train to be in the Royal Guard by running could be encouraged by Sans by giving him the Bunny Hood. (As I'm typing this, I just remembered the Fluffy Bunny book that Papyrus likes.)
Fairy Fountains- I actually intended Metaton to be the faries and it still fits. Instead of the laughter when you summon the faries, you'd get Metaton showing up in his square form doing the "Oh, yes" line.
Trading Game- I think for this one, instead of getting the Biggoron's Sword, you'd get an item depending on the route you'd take. Maybe a powered up stick or knife.
Those are the main ones I have so far and I'm open to change stuff around if others think there's characters that would fit others more.
As for how Undertale could fit in the other Zelda titles,........ I dunno. Obviously there's Majora's Mask that can still have the same characters, but some from OoT don't show up in MM especially the Sages and there's only 4 dungeons (5 if you count the Moon).
As for alternate versions of UnderRule, I can definitely see some versatility here. To start off, I can see different versions of this Sans being named after the Masks from MM. I thought of naming Classic Masky, but it sounds kinda silly. I settled on Deku, while Fell could be Goron, and Swap could be Zora. When you get to some other AUs, you could make some connections. The Breman Mask could be Aviantale/Birdtale. If you wanted to take a different approach with Swap, Swap Papyrus could have the Postman's Hat. Romani's Mask could be Farmertale.
Every year I try to beat both games, so maybe this year I'll get more of a chronological event type of thing going, maybe even sorta scripts(?). I can't see this actually becoming a game in its own right, but I think it'd be pretty cool.
As far as that, I'm more than likely not gonna do much with it. Again, it's open the community type of thing. All I ask is no problematic ships, please credit, and please be kind to one another have fun with it.
I can't think of too much to say and if I leave this in my notes to post later, I'm I'm gonna either procrastinate and add more, or completely forget to post it. I don't expect this AU to get too much attention, I just kinda wanted to throw it out into the void and out of my head. Maybe there'll be a small handful that likes it.

VERY long Ramble incoming
honestly now that I'm looking at the auraboa lore situation, I'm just disappointed. There was such POTENTIAL in the idea of the Loop and the horror of a new generation inexplicably being disconnected from it, forcing the newly hatched children into a world totally separate from that perceived by their parents (I mean, hell, they perceive TIME differently!).... but then the writer(s?) just fell ass backwards into Icky Tropes.
I feel like I can see what the idea was, especially with the recent alterations to the Encyclopedia entry... It seems like staff fundamentally understands the true Horror potential here, but... Instead, through the short story, they proposed it through the lens of a condescending outsider character, turning the fears of the older generation into something trivial. And also weirdly demeaning the Auroboa's situation by portraying them as overreacting.
Why... why would you do that? Like, from a storytelling perspective? What's gained from that? Why not embrace the true horror and even Emotional significance of that disruption? Why instead go for "ohh we NEED outsider help we NEED to be saved because we are so helpless and it is so Silly that we, creatures who have never experienced such things, do not know what sleep is"????
And if they WANTED to have a condescending outsider, I feel like they COULD have done that, but it would have to have that character realize the horror at some point. And make it obvious that their attitude towards distressed parents and children facing Eldritch Shit and the Sudden Deconstruction of it was not cool!
(or at the very least be a bit more...idk. Consistent with said outsider character? Juniper just goes from "omg I am so honored that the fascinating creatures of the behemoth have chosen me to speak to" to "oh their wasting my time because they don't know what sleep is. I'd rather be sleeping!! 🙄" like girl... c'mon now. Why are we trivializing it like this. Do you want me as the reader to be invested in their plight or not.)
I mean come on. They're beings connected through one networked hivemind-like system, yet each still maintains a silver of individuality that allows them to move freely throughout the Behemoth that they care for. And they've got an eldritch understanding of time that no other dragon could understand. They're seeing the future, past, and present unfold simultaneously. They're witnessing the birth and death of the world at the same time, and have no way to communicate it to other dragons. The best they can do is maintain their home, and even then, they see its roots spread and decay all at once.
And then the newest generation is suddenly disconnected. An inherent link between parent and child and all dragons in-between, that has existed since the creation of their species, is just suddenly GONE for the newest births. With NO explanation for it. The children have no easy way of communicating with their parents. The children are experiencing time in a way that was not meant for their species. They've forcefully been shoved into a circadian rhythm that they are Not! Built for!
The only way a parent could communicate properly with their child would be when the latter is sleeping, something that is also completely foreign to this species. It would be terrifying for all involved!!!
They are literally experiencing eldritch horror from the perspective of the eldritch being forced into the mortal.
Like why WOULDN'T there be panic!!! And why would that panic be trivialized! Why are we only shown the perspective of an outsider who looks at this situation and goes "Oh the silly tree beasts are being so silly over nothing, it's no big deal!"
That and the way the auraboas talk to outsiders. Like. There was such potential there. Real opportunity to explore how ancient, time-bending beings would communicate to someone who couldn't even BEGIN to understand the intricacies of it.
Instead we got what feels more like baby talk (even described as though they were hatchlings enunciating their first words, which... I dunno man, maybe we don't want to compare them to children like That) and less like... Beings that experience all of time at once. I mean, the hatchlings and the adults speak the exact same way, and that doesn't make any sense given the literal time barrier going on.
I totally get why people thought there was just a language barrier and that auraboas had their own language, thus causing the disjointed speak, and not that it was because They Do Not Experience Time Like We Do. And I feel it would've been far easier to get it across by just... I dunno. Do anything else?? I saw someone on here suggest they speak in the "wrong" tenses, or using multiple tenses in the same sentence, which I think would've been far more clear.
Like, as opposed to "saplings wilt! saplings silent!" just "the saplings will wilt in silence, they've wilted in silence, they are wilting silently." Said all at once like all things are true simultaneously. And if we're going for hivemind, have each auraboa speak in a different tense, all at the same time, and have them switch it up every time. Have our outsider get confused and be like "which is it? are they wilting now, or have they already wilted?" and the cluster of auraboas respond in a cacophony of yes's, no's, and maybe's all at once.
Would've probably gotten across the "alien" vibe they were supposedly going for far better than wide-eyed desperation for an outsider's guidance conveyed through disjointed, in-world described as baby speech.
And also maybe would've had less accidental connotations. Because as it stands, I completely see why people have made the connections to the real world where they have. This doesn't read like eldritch timey-wimey intrigue, or even a respectful look at how younger generations can become detached from their families' cultures over time and the struggles that come with it. It reads like a culture being perceived by an ignorant outsider who (despite supposedly respecting these dragons) scoffs and rolls their eyes because the tree beasts with their funny words are being silly again, and that Hey, isn't it actually a great thing that the children are fundamentally different in all manners now? Because now they can join the rest of us in the "real world."
Yknow. Ick.
(I Personally think it would've been better to have the perspective be one of the Auraboas themselves, especially one of the children, to really understand what was going on here. Give us the full brunt of the mind of a creature experiencing all of time interwoven as one shape. The waters fall and the oceans crash with waves. They've now fallen to drought. The ocean has yet to be born. Caves have been carved out through the waters' currents. And when I break from this timeline, I open my eyes to see a child, the child not yet born, the child born now, the child born yesterday. Why can't I hear it? Why couldn't I hear it? Why won't I ever hear it?)
I dunno. People more qualified than me to speak on this matter have already torn the lore apart, I'm just... dropping my own two cents. Potential got weirdly squandered and we ended up instead with unfortunate implications and tropes that could be connected a liiiittle too awkwardly to irl situations.
*Also, before anyone points out: Yes, I know the hatchlings aren't COMPLETELY detached from the Loop and can join it when they sleep. But the fact is, these thangs never had to sleep before. That wasn't in their species' nature. So that's still weird and foreign for them on both sides. And since the hatchlings now have a circadian rhythm, they can't stay connected to the loop permanently. And also Also, seeing as the previous generations aren't experiencing time linearly, who's to say they even recognize when their child joins the loop? They'll speak with an echo of their child when that child was last asleep ages ago, not knowing that it's not them presently, because there is no 'present' for the older generations.

How do you find pose references for all those gorgeous and cute and aaaaaaa drawings. H o w. Where. (<-from someone struggling to draw characters interacting)
(if you don't use references, take it as a compliment to your godly anatomy and posing skills)
I don't really use references for poses that much. I'm not sure how to explain this without sounding weird but when I'm about to draw something, I visualize it in my mind, and when it's character art I sort of see them as 3D models that can be posed and rotated. And I just sort of try to replicate that on paper, sometimes it's easy and sometimes it doesn't work out at all (a good reminder that when you browse someone's art, you usually only see the pieces that the artist is at least passably proud of, not the piles of failed projects that went nowhere).

on one hand i hate fridging and i hate how diane as a character basically only exists to provide rick with a crybaby backstory.
on the other hand i actually am going really crazy over the fact that rick prime truly and actually and for real killed her off in every single universe just to spite rick c-137 ("you're the only thing i can't replace" from the fear hole episode did something insane to me) especially since the rick we know is so used to hopping dimensions when shit goes south. in this case there are absolutely zero chances for him to try again and it's one of the few times he DIDN'T cause the problem he's running from in the slightest... i guess it does give some new insight as to why he's so attached to the morty prime and the current smith family, because in a lot of ways they kind of ARE his second chance, even if that wasn't his original intention...?
which just brings me back to being upset about diane's character only being used to further rick's development once she's dead... sigh

Something which caught my attention during my rewatch was this line said by Sara in S2 E4:
Tumblr media
She didn't had to bring Wilhelm and Simon in this conversation at all, but she did anyways. Like, it made me think, what if Sara treated Wilhelm and Simon's relationship as a blueprint in approaching August?
Because, as Sara says, she literally saw Wilhelm and Simon's relationship unfold in S1. She was probably the first person to notice them and one of the few people who actually knew how their relationship was (topped by maybe Felice in S2):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Sara has a tendency of subconsciously copying people and their behaviors, the biggest example is Felice. She tries to dress up like Felice, wears Felice's clips in the exact same way she does, and even becomes a boarder to experience Felice's life. It's not supposed to be malicious or even intentional, it's just something that she craves and tries to replicate subconsciously to fulfill her desires of a upper-class life.
And when August kissed her at the stables in S1 E4, it set the gears in motion in her head. She never would have thought of pursuing August if he hadn't made the first move. For him, it was just a (petty and totally uncalled for) way to get back at Felice, but for Sara, it opened up a new desire, a new possibility in her: to date someone from the upper class. In her head, it's what Felice did, it's what Simon did(although I think she knows that Wilhelm's status doesn't matter to Simon at all).
And it also reminds of a subconscious but competitive sibling behavior of wanting something the other sibling has/had. Maybe you don't even want it or need it in reality, but it won't be a reach if Sara had this thinking of, "Well, Simon got to date someone from the upper class even though he hates them, so why can't I?", which again, doesn't actually have anything to do with Simon himself but it's more like Sara latching onto and projecting her own desires on a person who showed some interest in her, no matter how much far fetched or shallow it was(at least according to her). And in the beginning it was just an attempt to see how dating someone feels like and that too someone from the high society, but then she seriously fell for August.

Hey-o, back again with another chapter of that other thing! Apparently people actually liked it? I guess Imma have to start drafting an entire story now...Ah well, it's a good way to pass the time. I already finished the third chapter, I gotta type it up and edit it tho.
Anyways, here's the chapter! We get a peek through the boys' perspective this time...
On with the show!
(Ch 1 is here if anyone wants it)
Word Count: 1, 660
_______
Sun’s smile falls quickly into place as he greets the children, matching his persona of the sweet, bubbly animatronic he was designed to be.
He was quite literally made for the stage, which is why no one ever questioned how smoothly the daycare ran. He wrangled children and entertained them, attending to his charges and keeping the place up to date, organizing itineraries and schedules, effectively (running the place) entirely on his own…with Moon’s help, of course.
He made sure everything was perfect-and it was!-without anyone’s help. So he never could understand why management had hired that nuisance that clearly wasn’t wanted.
Ah, the “Daycare Assistant.” He stole a glance at you, smile faltering to a grimace before he corrected himself, watching you interact with the children. If it were up to him, he wouldn’t let them anywhere near you, but rules were rules.
You apparently felt his eyes on you, because you looked up and gave him a small wave. His eyes narrowed, and he made no move to return it, taking small joy in how you faltered and shrank in on yourself.
They couldn’t wait until your contract expired and they could finally have the place to themselves. Try as they might, they couldn’t find any loopholes in the document, Fazbear made it airtight. They had tried to scare you off and make you quit, but like the bothersome little imp you were, you refused to yield. They had expected Moon’s scare the first few nights to do the trick, but to their surprise, you just came back the next day. His taunts and tricks got nothing but an eye roll and a shrug. Sun kept pushing, making up rules that didn’t exist to no avail: you just went along with the changes and apologized for not knowing.
There was that other thing that baffled them, how you kept trying to worm your way into their good graces. You played nice with the kids, you didn’t argue against their wishes, you apologized for your and their mistakes. You followed them around like a puppy, always desperately eager to please. Couldn’t you get the hint and realize that they wanted nothing to do with you, that your tricks wouldn’t work?
He took another glance out of the corner of his eye, noticing your change in wardrobe. At least it hadn’t been like last time, he’d caught you with earbuds in and a shirt that was not up to dresscode. Still, even with your efforts to make yourself scarce, it wasn’t enough. They knew why management had hired you: to keep an eye on them and report everything, the company’s little spy. You had no right to be here, in their daycare, nosing your way into things and writing little notes to management every shift, commenting on things and picking them apart. No one had asked for your opinion, certainly them, and they didn’t know what management saw in you to value yours over theirs.
(They noted begrudgingly that your comments had yet to say anything against them. It was mostly just recommendations for things or supply requests, little notes about how each day went.)
You did your job, but not well enough. You were absentminded, always staring off into space as if there was something more important to be done. You hung back and left them to do all the work, and even when you actually did what you were paid for, it wasn’t done up to standard. You didn’t play with the kids often, usually hanging back and leaving them to do all the work. Sometimes, you didn’t even show up! They could recall last month, when you had missed two weeks, two whole weeks, of work, citing your excuse to management and asking that it be kept private. They hadn’t detected any issues with your health (except for a slight increase in stress levels and lack of sleep, which would be worrying if they could bring themself to be concerned about the likes of you), so whatever excuse you’d given was probably invalid. And you left the daycare during work hours often, despite having the whole hour of naptime off, which you’d never used no matter how much they wished you would.
Speaking of naptime, the lights cut, and Moon comes out, quickly settling the children in. He selects a story from the shelves and spins a tale for them to drift off to. Soon enough, the air fills with soft, whistling snores and wafting lullaby notes in the comfortable silence.
For a moment, everything is right.
Unfortunately, it’s interrupted by a certain someone.
A shame, really, that you insisted on staying. He was so sure you’d tire of it eventually and just out like every employee had thus far, and yet here you were, back just to spite him.
No matter. He would find a crack in your facade eventually, and he’d watch you break.
He was content with just bugging you for now, finding the little chinks in your armor and chipping away at them, trivial as they were. You were quite fun to mess with, though he wished you’d give a proper reaction.
He stands up, calling his tether and launching into the air, scanning the daycare in search of you. As usual, you’re at the desk, eyes trained on its surface with a dim look, like you were seeing through it, beyond the dimly lit room.
Carefully descending from the ceiling so as not to alert you, Moon sets two hands on the chair.
Nothing.
Without warning, he jerks the chair and swivels it harshly to face him, prompting a sharp inhale as you stiffen, tensing at the sight of him. He snickers, and you catch yourself, forcing your shoulders to lower. You give him a questioning look. “Hi, Moon. Need something?”
You sounded bored. That wouldn’t do. He resists the urge to roll his eyes and scoff, instead turning his faceplate slowly with a mocking grin. “Just waiting.”
Predictably, you tilt your head and ask, “For what?”
His grin grows wider, and he quickly snatches your bag and shoots back up to the ceiling, just out of your reach but still clearly visible as he begins to rifle through your belongings.
You make a little sound of protest but don’t voice your annoyance, just watching him examining its contents with mild irritation, standing up and crossing your arms.
So he tries harder to rile you up and provoke you, taking more things out and messing with them before tossing them onto the floor half-hazardly.
That seems to do the trick. Your eyes narrow slightly, lips pursed in restraint. You sigh and shoot him a tired glare. “Moon, can I please have my stuff back?”
He only chuckles, rummaging through the bag full of all sorts of things. You always made sure to take particularly good care of your things, which made it all the more easier to get on your nerves. Wire earbuds are pulled apart to an uncomfortable length before being discarded, along with a book he skimmed through. Knowing it was yours made him feel less guilty about stretching out the spine and dog-earing a page or two, especially with the satisfaction of watching you hold back your anger under your well-placed facade when he crumpled a couple.
Still nothing from you outside of your repeated request for your things back.
He plucked your phone out, dangling it from a dangerous height to scare you before slipping it into his pocket and ‘confiscating’ for the day with the small declaration of “Mine now,” at your indignant look. His eyes landed on a small notebook, and he picked it up, weighing his options of whether he should open it or not, not noticing the way you tensed when he reached for it.
His thoughts were interrupted when you tried to swipe out of his hands, having gathered up the rest of your things. “Come on, Moon, give it back.”
Oh? How interesting…He shook his head with feigned apology, dangling it away from you but not opening it. “Sorry, security protocol gives me authorization to check luggage if I’m detecting suspicious behavior.”
You both knew that it didn’t apply in this situation, but he knew you hated confrontation almost as much as he liked pulling rank. You reluctantly allowed him to continue his unwarranted search (as usual).
Satisfied with having aggravated you, he took his leave, content with his minor torment. He returned to the children, watching his work pay off.

You survey the damage. He’d been relatively tame with it today. You recall the last time he did a search. You’d had to buy new headphones and tape a couple things together, not to mention being locked out of your apartment until he graciously returned the keys he’d ‘borrowed’.
You ran your hand over your book, grimacing at the creases. You’d just bought it, needing something to do during the hour of naptime after having been banned from using your phone, which currently sat in Moon’s pocket.
(You realized you’d need to ask Sun for that afterwards.
Great.)
Technically, you could go on break during naptime, it was the given block of free time management had provided for lunch. The issue with that was leaving your things here, with a certain someone who had a knack for making your stuff disappear.
So no leaving the daycare, which meant doing absolutely nothing for what felt like an eternity. You’d considered sleeping like the children, but you didn’t trust them not to pull something.
Your stomach growls, crying out for food, and you wince. Right. No break meant no lunch. You’d tried eating in here once, only to be stopped by Moon, who claimed that food with unknown substances wasn’t permitted because of the children’s allergies. You hadn’t had breakfast this morning either, but that’s alright. You’d make up for it afterwards. You just had to survive for three more hours…
Aaand that's a wrap! Hope that was up to standard, I'm still trying to figure out how to make the dialogue more tense, sorry. Moon's teasing here is a lot less drastic than it usually is, but it still annoys MC because it they have a certain order that things need to be in. I did base y/n heavily off of myself, as this was more of a personal thing before I decided to make it a fic. But yeah, the boys are kinda just assholes for now. It'll get better eventually, although I do need to figure out how not to rush the plot too fast...
Third chapter'll be out in a couple days, maybe? I don't like submitting what I have without having something else prepared, so it's gonna be on pause until I start the fourth one. The third is...not to my liking, but we'll see.
Also thanks for reading, I do appreciate the comments :) Criticism and suggestions are also welcome, as I am new to this whole thing.

"Why did you order your Spartans to jump from the Pelican?" the interviewer demanded once again.
Her face was shrouded in darkness. A lamp was pointed directly in his eyes. Fred smirked. Did they really think that conventional interrogation tactics from centuries-old cop procedurals were going to make a Spartan sweat?
"It was the best tactical option." He shook his head once. "No. It was the only tactical option."
The interviewer scoffed loudly and crossed her arms over her chest. She kept doing that. As though she had any idea what it was like to be in the field. Maybe she did. But she didn't know what it was to be a Spartan.
"Don't you feel responsibility for what happened to your team?" she asked harshly.
Externally, Fred remained emotionless. Passive. He was the very picture of the robot super-soldier that the UNSC rank-and-file believed the Spartans to be. Internally, he recoiled.
Did he feel responsible?
He felt nothing else. He saw each of their faces - every Spartan that had died under his command. Malcolm. Joshua. Grace. Anton. Vinh. Isaac. The list went on. It filed through his mind on an endless loop, whenever he had a spare moment to think.
Then there were the others. Gray Team... wherever they were. Omega Team, too. Randall, who'd been lost years ago. Cal, Arthur, Solomon, and Daisy along with him. Kelly.
He wished she were here. She would've been able to put his head back on straight.
Of course, with his track record lately, he could very well have lost her on the Unyielding Hierophant. Maybe it was better that Halsey had absconded with her. He could at least believe that she was still out there. Force himself to believe it. He wouldn't make it much further if he didn't.
"I asked you a question, Spartan One Zero Four." The interviewer's voice was full of venom. She practically spit the words. She was trying to intimidate him.
That must have been a joke.
Fred rose from his seat. Even out of his armor, he towered over everyone in the sealed interrogation room. He reached out with one hand and very deliberately turned the lamp out of his eyes - a challenge to the interviewer. Go ahead and make me sit back down, he thought.
"I made the best decision. Unlike many in this facility, I care deeply about the soldiers under my command and I refused to waste their lives." He didn't say the words so much as growl them. His right hand clenched into a fist so tight that his knuckles turned paper-white.
The interviewer stared up at him. She was trying to put on a tough face, to keep control of the situation. To her credit, she was doing a good job. She almost managed to hide the vein pulsing in her forehead. The ever-so-slight widening of her eyes. The almost imperceptible tremor in her voice when she barked, "Are you implying that HIGHCOM wasted Spartan lives?"
The Spartan managed to choke down the biting laughter that threatened to escape him. Thirty Spartans combined for RED FLAG. For a suicide mission. But here they were, trying to pass the buck for their deaths onto him.
Fred smirked again. "No, Ma'am," he answered, forcing himself to slacken his fist. He looked her dead in the eye. She had blue eyes. Almost as light in color as Kelly's. "To imply would leave some ambiguity. What I am doing is inferring."
The woman's face coiled in disgust. But it was only skin-deep. She didn't have the clearance to know what he was talking about... she was just here to be ONI's voice. To provide them with plausible deniability for the public eye.
She opened her mouth to answer. Then the door burst open to reveal Fleet Admiral Lord Terrence Hood himself. The Admiral's face was red. He was shouting. The interviewer was escorted out by MPs. Fred watched it all from the sidelines.
Kelly would have found the whole situation hilarious.
Then Hood turned to him. "Suit up, Senior Chief. We're sending Blue downstairs - you ready to get back to work?"
Fred nodded, standing at stiff attention. Then he smiled. "Eager, sir."
