No idea why the otome isekai rec chart is doing numbers again but

1) don't follow me, i mostly post annoying tag essays and other people's political essays, not comic opinions anymore. I haven't kept up with anything in months. I hear they caught Mielle now? I dunno.

2) I redact The Princess Imprints Upon the Traitor from the rec list. It's fine as a story, you probably won't hate it, but I shouldn't have put it in the the "otome isekai that's saying something about systematic oppression." It's about a homunculus who starts a slave rebellion against the monarchy but goes back in time to save is beloved special one-of-the-good-ones princess so she can enact gradual, incremental, non-revolutionary change. "What if I could stop a violent revolution by single handedly initiating a 🌊🌊#bluewave🌊🌊 using my royal clout" does not belong there. Go read Lady Evony.

If I'd made a category for like "stories where the author could have written a world of sexism to girl power her way through but instead made all of important, interesting characters female and most of the unimportant mob characters male with little dialogue, without ever commenting on this fact, (always the better choice)" I would put it there. That's it's own post though.

Advertisement for "King's Throne: Game of Lust" that popped up while playing Picross.

Weird hip, shoulder that doesn't even look attached, a top that has to be glued on, whatever is going on with her head/neck, and that's just the girl on the left.

I don't think the girl on the left looks that bad but the more I look at her neck and shoulder area the weirder it gets. However, the girl in the middle seems kind of snakey from her silhouette. Also, knowing nothing of King's Throne, is it really a NSFW game or is it like Evony/Wartune that just advertises itself as the most X-rated, censors hate us, we promise you an orgy my lord thing but is actually just like a very repetitive generic strategy game or whatever?

DCA Dorm Leaders + Sophie turns into Kids?!

It happened at different times but the experience was shocking nonetheless. Everything odd just happens when you interact with NRC students. For some reason, the one time the ten dorm leaders of DCA visited or interacted with NRC something unexpected happened...

Evonie

She was spilled with a potion that a student was carrying but accidentally dropped it from the window of the alchemy class. Her form shrank in the puff of purple smoke and when it was gone she was suddenly a toddler. 

Epel who was escorting her around the campus grounds started to panic and decided that in cases like these he must go to the dorm leader. As soon as he brings her to Vil, she's going to be dolled up in little frilly dresses and ribbons while an antidote was being made. 

Evonie's two dads always dress her up in cute clothes which shouldn't be a problem… But she was used to cotton and animal onesies, Vil was making her wear silk and a bit of lace that are kind of itchy. 

Epel just feels odd with the entire scene he is witnessing. Evonie looks very displeased, he can only look back with a look of understanding her ire. He hates lace too… 

When Epel has to look after Evonie, she'd sit in his room chewing on apples and rolling around the blanket. She wasn't very active but she never made a fuss, Epel thinks that the Evonie right now and the older Evonie barely has any difference, which puzzles him.

Ella

A lot of students are dropping potions from the window nowadays, Ella is the latest victim to the falling chemical and this time Rook was with her. 

There she was, a toddler who looked up at Rook with her big eyes, he almost forgot what he was going to do since he got distracted by her cuteness. 

Of course, he reports the incident to Vil who reports to Divus. While waiting for the antidote, the Pomefiore dorm is blessed with the image of a cute doll-like toddler waddling around following Vil. The first moment Ella's eyes saw Vil she immediately points to him and says, "Pwince". 

It was so endearing and it got a chuckle out of Rook and Vil. If Vil was too busy to look after her, she was left in Rook and Epel's care, she'd busy herself playing princess with Rook and clumsily doing curtsy, Rook laments on how he wished he had a sister as charming as her. 

Ella would assume Epel was a princess but he can't be mad at her because she's a kid. He'll just tell himself repeatedly that she's a kid and doesn't know any better.

Allison

Well, the incident happened in the alchemy lab in DCA this time. She got turned into a toddler and while the students were busy trying to calm down and prepare an antidote, Allison sneaks off through her door and onto Heartslabyul grounds. 

She starts looking around and sees Trey and Cater, she rushes towards Trey and grabs onto his leg, startling him. They were shocked to see a child here of all places and at first, they thought it was a little sister of one of the students. 

Until Allison used her doors to get away from Cater who was trying to grab her that they realized that it was indeed, Allison. 

The game of tag starts, at first it was Trey and Cater chasing her around the garden but she kept on using her doors to transport into various spots in the dorm area, she ended up in the lounge than the kitchen, and so on, the entire dorm was on high alert for a pink-haired toddler and magic doors. 

What about Riddle? He was already informed when he saw students crouching around trying to find something or someone… 

He tries to be calm and order the students to get her out quickly, but as soon as she sees him and calls him a "The Grumpy Tomato" he forgets that she's a kid and chases after her only to have her use a door and he nearly crashes into the wall. Allison is definitely going to get an earful from Riddle after this fiasco.

Briar

It happened during the time she visited NRC, she was hit with stray magic in the main building and it turned her into a toddler. Everyone in the area was panicking while Briar was confused and startled by the yelling from the students. 

The one who found her was Lilia and the moment he sees that gold hair he rushes towards her only to find her… very small and very young. This was amusing for the old fae and it brings back memories of nostalgia. He can easily remove the spell cast on her but he allows himself to be a bit selfish and bring her over to Diasomnia.

Lucky for him, Malleus and his two guards are in the lounge chatting. The three of them froze when Lilia plopped Briar on the coffee table. Her big blue eyes scanning the faces of the people in front of her. 

Briar first went for Sebek and he was clumsily trying to carry her as she poked around his cheeks because his fangs caught her attention. 

Then when Silver got a hold of her, he fell asleep after a few minutes and Lilia had to catch her. 

Lastly, she sees Malleus and approaches him. Malleus was a bit lost on what to do, this child is Briar but at the same time, he doesn't know what she's like as a child. Briar raises her arms to him asking to be carried, when he did she gently put her small hands on his horns, marveling at the texture. Lilia has a picture he sneakily took to preserve the memory of a stunned Malleus and a baby Briar.

Cerule

Cerule got toddlerized when she tagged along with Floyd making a potion in his room. Of course, Floyd being… Floyd, he put in something weird cause he was curious then a puff of purple smoke turned Cerule into her little mer-serpent self. 

Floyd was now preoccupied with a small oarfish child who was chewing on the black strand of his hair. "Ce-chibi, does my hair look like seaweed?". 

Jade came in the room some time to witness this scene, he doesn't need any explaining to know what happened. But, he takes the opportunity to see how Azul would react so the twins went to show the dorm leader. 

Needless to say, Azul dropped his pen when he spots that familiar red and white hair. 

Cerule as a child was… filled with a lot of chewing, she doesn't have sharp teeth due to her natural diet consisting of seaweed. She also tends to wrap her tail around someone's arm or leg so as not to fall off, Floyd put her tail around his neck and made her a scarf. 

Azul was planning on making the antidote… but Cerule's doe-eyes and cute habits sparked the instinct of a businessman. He decided against it because he'd rather not worry the students at DCA.

Rozeline

It was a book she saw in the NRC library that just happened to be cursed and reading out a spell turned her into a toddler. Luckily for her, the one who was showing her around was Jack. 

He may have been a bit startled but he has little siblings, he knows how to handle children. 

Though he is quite worried about how nervous Rozeline is… she never lets go of his hand and even hides from the other students behind him. She doesn't seem to like crowds and it makes one wonder what happened to her to make her like this? He just carries her towards Divus's office to get the problem sorted right away.

Vidya

It was during her visits to Scarabia that she ended up getting hit with a stray magic beam and she was turned into a toddler. The students who were sparring went pale because they hit a royal who happens to be friends with Kalim. 

Speaking of which, Kalim just happens to witness this incident and immediately runs over to pick up a tiny Vidya into his arms. Then Jamil runs into this scenario and is told of what happened, now he has to make sure Kalim didn't get her hurt from giving her a piggyback ride. 

Vidya as a child is no different from her older self, she has proper manners and Kalim gets flustered when Vidya calls out on decisions that could lead to disasters. She sticks to Jamil a lot though, mostly supervising the magic training of the students. 

Her mature temperament just made them realize how she molded herself to be a perfect ruler at an early age which made Kalim feel bad since he thought Vidya smiling at parties meant she had a carefree childhood. Jamil is reminded of how his childhood was like when he sees Vidya's attitude and habits. They try to coax her into acting more childish, even for a little bit.

Jinlong

Jinlong was toddlerized after one of the Savannaclaw students were having an argument and they struck each other with magic, only problem was that the magic hit Jinlong. 

Now she was a kid in the middle of a dorm filled with beasts, most of them didn't bother with the kid and went to go tell Ruggie about it. But the ones who do bother her are met with a shocking surprise kick. Jinlong studied under an outcast master in secret, she was put through a tough training regimen. 

Jack who witnessed the event along with Ruggie, was shocked and amazed. Ruggie goes to inform professor Divus. Jack follows Jinlong to make sure she doesn't get lost but she's just standing there wanting to try out a training dummy. 

But being a child with the mentality brought up in her hometown she isn't comfortable around the male students. 

Until Jack takes her somewhere isolated and prepares a dummy for her that she starts to lose her nervousness and get hyped up.

Elu

It happens during the time she was sparring against Leona during the DCA festival. Both were close to hitting each other when a puff of purple smoke hit Elu and Leona was thrown off balance when he didn't hit anything solid. 

When the smoke dispersed he saw Elu but smaller and younger. Turns out that smoke was a miss from one of the game booths. She was still feisty as a cub, so seeing this big lion man made her raise her paws and starts to hit him. 

Her punches weren't that strong and it felt like he was getting a massage. He found this amusing and just continued to tease the poor cub, by holding her back with his tail, and when she tries to do any semblance of damage he just sits there with a smirk. 

The entire image is just so amusing to everyone that the girls from Sagamore weren't mad at Leona, it just looks like typical siblings being siblings situation.

Perrine

Perrine wanted to try out Allison's recipe for mystery cookies then she contacted Trey if he wanted to taste test it with her.

Allison mentioned that the effects vary but none that is harmful to the person, it’s a recipe full of whimsy so it makes sense. When they both ate a cookie, a puff of purple smoke and Trey had four-leaf clovers growing out of his head which made him chuckle a bit but when he looked to Perrine he nearly had his glasses knocked off from surprise. 

She was a toddler now! Luckily for Trey he was skilled with handling kids because of his younger siblings. 

Perrine was adorably diligent, while waiting for the effects to wear off she would always be behind Trey ready to assist. 

While he was on rose painting duty she was already putting newspaper around the bush to make sure the grass didn't get paint. 

And when he was cooking, she was zooming about the kitchen handing him the ingredients he needed. It was endearing for him and it was almost a shame that it was only for a moment, he's going to miss his little assistant for a while.

Sophie

Sophie was given the role of a tour guide for the first-year squad, and they stopped by the Futterwacken tea party to try out some of the mystery cookies. 

After consuming the cookies, Ace had sparkling eyes, Deuce could see in grayscale, Jack's wolf-like features turned into a poodle's with the ears and the fluffy hair, Epel had a deep voice which he thought was manly, and Sebek was speaking in gibberish. 

Sophie was turned into a toddler and the first-year squad is in a panic to who has to make sure she's turned back. It's a hilarious scenario but the Futterwacken students have seen their fair share of oddities so they shrug and walk off. 

It didn't help that Sophie was curious about everything, she starts crawling about and climbing around. It was chaotic until they handed her over to Sebek, she started to put her hands in his mouth curious about his fangs, and Sebek just speaking nonsense but still held onto Sophie.

1 - What does (Your!oc) think of (My!oc)?

Conrad: Evonie is beautiful, but Conrad isn’t one to trust a pretty face. He’d keep his guard up around her waiting to see how she really is. Then seeing her unafraid to dirty her hands to help others makes him soften a liiiiiiiiittle. Because he likes hard workers, but that also means she isn’t afraid to dirty her hands in another way... Once he knows she fences he would be more interested, since he himself does swordplay. Well, his doesn’t have rules though. He’d still like to try fencing but probably can’t muster the courage to ask, or always remembers another thing he had to do instead. It leads to the most productive month in the Piraticus dorm, at least!

Tink: Likes that she’s around cuz Pomefiore weirdos focus on her and not him. Evonie def has confronted him about being mean to the students he pranks so he isn’t fond of that. Won’t admit it but does like her voice.

Conrad: The focus could be on the fact they both like swordfighting/fencing and know the value of hard work. If someone depens on him too much Conrad will assign them little sibling status, he prefers someone he can equals with. So Evonie being so aware of others helps. It’d be sooooooooo slow burn it hurts given Conrad’s issues tho. The romance of a pirate and royalty doe sound nice to him but that’s the nerd in him.

Tink: Tink is sadly simple. Evonie could scold him for his schemes and he’d try to get better if she lets him know she doesn’t hate him for it. Or if she tried to understand him. Knowing about her love for rock and metal would help a lot. He’d laugh at it at first but more so cuz he doesn’t see why she’d have to hide it. She’s such a perfect princess already, if anything that contrast makes her more fun!

Krok: Offer food tbh. He’d already admire that she sticks up for other people so it’s not hard. The only problem is he’s so out of it he won’t catch on to any attempts unless they’re straightforward. And even then...

Seeing as fanfiction has no sense of humour and deleted so many great lulz, this site will be used to host the amazing Tara Gilesbie classic, My immortal.

For those of you who do not know what My Immortal is, it is in short and most accurately completely retarded. My Immortal is a very loose Harry Potter fanfiction story about Ebony (or Enoby) Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way, a gothic teenage vampire girl who attends Hogwarts school. To say anymore may spoil the lulz. The story is infamous for its horrible abuse to the english language and extreme gothic attitude.

Those who remember My Immortal well should also remember the first few chapters (1-15) were co-written with 'Raven' hence they were spelt better etc but don't worry Raven leaves in chapter 16 (which is where her character Willow gets expelled from Hogwarts).The copy on here I'm pretty sure is the 100% original version of My Immortal with no edits at all outside those by Raven (which were in the original). This copy includes the 'hacker' chapter of 39.

She's usually surrounded by her friends, "Stanist" "goffs" who slit their wrists, cry tears of blood, shop at Hot Topic and move into Slytherin, while everyone else (including Dumblydore) is a prep who listens to Avril Lavigne and hates the goffs for no reason.

The plot is mostly centered around Vlodemort trying to force Enoby to kill Harry. After this, Evony goes back in tim to try to prevent Tom Bombodil from ever becoming Volxemort, by making him fall in love with her. Snap and Loopin are pedophiles who enjoy masticating and eventually get sent to Azerbaijan (or "Abhkazian", what could possibly be a product of the Cupertino Problem if not for the fact that the fic has clearly never seen a spellchecker). Then there's some drama between Egogy, Drako, and Vampire, and...who are we kidding? There's nothing resembling a plot here.

honestly ? i think sinead probably does a lot of the cooking. she's an artist , and cooking is definitely form of art. it requires a lot of patience ( that evony doesn't always have ) but also , i think it'd be one of the ways that she could take care of evony without them getting all defensive. like bringing her a plate of somethin to help her feel better , or just makin any sort of meal. it's a nice way of showing someone you care , and evony loves food. evony would definitely do some of the cooking , but living in nyc has made them lazy. why cook when you can stop at the bodega and get snacks ? or just hit up the deli that's across the street. some of the best cuisine in the entire world is just minutes away.

I have seen that 'story' go around a lot and I still don't know what it is. WHAT is My Immortal??

Ok buddy get yourself comfortable cause this is gonna be a long one:

Let’s go all the way back to 2006, when the internet was just becoming a thing to young people. Back when a majority of the websites we know today were either just starting out or just starting to pick up in popularity, including fanfiction.net. A lot of fanfictions had already filled the archives, both bad and good, but one fanfiction in particular caught people’s attention almost immediately. And it was ‘My Immortal’ by “Tara Gilesbie”, or ‘XXXbloodyrists666XXX’ as was her username on the website. Supposedly taking place in the world of Harry Potter, this particular fanfic gets to a point where, had it not been for the actual characters’ names being present, you can’t really tell what it’s supposed to be referencing as it has very little acknowledgement of the source material’s canon. The story’s main focus is “Tara’s” self-insert OC, Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way. Also known as Enoby, Egogy, Evony, Ibony, or just Tara. To anyone who has only heard of ‘My Immortal’, it just sounds like your typical run of the mill “mary sue” fanfiction. But what made ‘My Immortal’ stand above the rest were three things: the butchered grammar, the author’s seemingly obsession with the gothic subculture, and the mary sue herself.

The grammar is terrible, there is just no other way to put it. “Tara” had a very distinct way of writing, which was better exemplified in her ‘author’s notes’, her little thoughts that she always puts at the very beginning of each chapter or sometimes at the end. And other times in the middle of her story, to either talk back to the ‘flamerz’, go on about how much she loves a band she mentioned, or point out a pun she made. And it all greatly resembles someone sending a text message:

“AN: STOP flaming! if u flam it menz ur a prep or a posr! Da only reson Dumbledeor swor is coz he had a hedache ok an on tup of dat he wuz mad at dem 4 having sexx! PS im nut updating umtil I get five good revoiws!”

That kind of style is present throughout the whole story. Granted the actual chapters have better spelling, but the way it’s put together is all the same. And it actually worsens the further it goes to the near point of illegibility. In fact, legend has it that the story’s grammar was apparently so bad that fanfiction.net deleted it due to the sudden drop of intelligence on the site. No one knows if that’s true, most likely not as that seems like quite a stretch. However, it was actually deleted, perhaps by Tara herself, though she later reposted it.

But the real kicker is exactly how the fanfic interprets the source material. Hogwarts is no longer a school of wizardry divided by bestowed houses, but is now a more high school-based setting where everyone is divided by cliques, though only three are present. Goths, preps, and posers:

•Goths are the good kids. They’re the only ones who understand this dark and depressing world better than anyone else, and shows their individuality by shopping at Hot Topic together and listening to the same exact bands. They’re also half vampires for some reason. And they’re all part of Slytherin even if they’re originally from another house in the actual story.

•Preps are the mean kids. They just like, totally don’t understand goths so they’re like so mean to them and call them scary and stuff. They’re all just bitchy and are like totally jealous of the goths and only shop at stores like American Eagle and only listen to crappy music like Hilary Duff. And all those stupid preps are in Gryffindor.

•Posers are just goth wannabes who listen to Avril Lavigne and probably don’t even know who Good Charlotte is. What houses are they even in, no one knows and no one gives a shit. They’re mostly there just to show the reader what being goth is really all about.

And above them all is the only true goth, the queen of Mary Sues herself, Ebony. Now the definition of what makes a “mary sue” has been drastically skewed over the years, and probably shouldn’t even be relevant anymore, but if you at the very least want a true-to-heart example, Ebony is the way to go. Tara’s obsession with being goth is greatly reflected in this character. She loves bands like My Chemical Romance, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and Evanescence (who wrote the song ‘My Immortal’ which this fanfic is named after). She shops at Hot Topic and wears the type of clothing that any 13 year old goth wishes they could. In fact, Ebony’s outfits are always described in great detail and takes up to almost paragraphs in every chapter:

“For example today I was wearing a black corset with matching lace around it and a black leather miniskirt, pink fishnets and black combat boots. I was wearing black lipstick, white foundation, black eyeliner and red eye shadow.”

And trust me when I say they only get longer. It isn’t just the outfit descriptions though, the whole entire story is written in Ebony’s favor. Like a Hot Topic being in Hogsmede despite it being a nonmagical store (not to mention being an american chain) and a club where Ebony’s favorite bands just happen to be playing concerts in despite being muggle bands. And how cutting, underage drinking, and smoking is glamorized as being “dark” and “beautiful” and has no repercussions whatsoever. And how there’s no uniforms so Ebony can show off her over the top wardrobe.

Since Ebony is the main character and this is a fanfiction, all of Tara’s favorite characters from the Harry Potter world are Ebony’s gothic friends and accompany her in Slytherin, even if they’re canonly in other houses as I’ve mentioned previously. And all of Tara’s hated characters are Ebony’s enemies, and are depicted as either nasty preps or a bunch of posers that belong in Gryffindor. It doesn’t stop there though, as all the male characters have a thing for Ebony because she is just so sexy and looks exactly like Amy Lee. But Ebony only focuses on her two main love interests, Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter, who now goes by Vampire Potter because he likes the taste of human blood.

This is all just the very basics of the fanfiction, there are plenty of more absurdities you’ll stumble upon the further you read. Like Voldemort and the Death Eaters disguising themselves as My Chemical Romance, Snape video taping Ebony taking a bath, characters from different sources making cameos like Marty Mcfly, the list goes on.

But what truly, TRULY made ‘My Immortal’ such a phenomenon is that no one knew if it was legit. There were two sides to how people felt about it, those who thought it was a real story and Tara at the time was another young angsty teen who had just been introduced to the internet (which would explain the terrible grammar and botched sex scenes), and those who thought the story was one big joke written by a genius troll who made Tara up as a persona, which was extremely plausible since everything about the story was so wrong and completely blown out of proportion that there was no possible way someone could’ve come up with it and been completely serious. But people on the other side have argued that they’d have a very, VERY dedicated troll.

One of the biggest factors to their argument was Tara’s friend Raven, who not only had her own OC named Willow that was featured in the story, but also had a helping hand in writing it. She even had her own fanfiction.net account called ‘bloodytearz666’. Raven was Tara’s creative filter, as she was in charge of spelling and grammar and came up with some plot points in the story. At least until chapter 16 when the two apparently had a falling out and Tara killed off Willow, but later brought Willow back as an apology. So this troll would’ve had to not only make Tara, but also make Raven as a means to support their persona, unless Raven was created by a second troll. But both of those trolls would’ve had to write other stories pre and post ‘My Immortal’, as well as manage several social media accounts, which is a whole lot of effort just for the sake of making a joke.

Since the story was made, many people have come forward claiming they are the mysterious Tara, with promises of more material and continuations of the infamous story. So no one knew for sure who Tara is or her whereabouts. Until now.

After years and years of shrouded mystery, “Tara” has finally logged back into her more than decade old account and revealed herself to be Rose Christo. As it turns out, she co-wrote ‘My Immortal’ with Raven, who was actually a real person and her friend, during a very hard time in her life. And it wasn’t for a reason most might have thought. She revealed that she purposely made it as bad as possible so she could gain enough publicity to find her younger brother that she had been separated from.

She even wrote a memoir about it that is set to be published in 2018, which you can read about here.

You can also read the fanfiction itself if you’re interested here. Even if it did turn out to be a fake, it’s still a very humorous read, and very interesting since we now know its backstory.

EDIT: So as it turns out the whole thing with Rose was a hoax and the real Tara is still out there. Waiting, longing, in a dark alley with her hand stretched out so that I may one day shake it.

This week’s entry: My Immortal

What it’s about: What some consider the worst fan fiction of all time. (Which, as anyone who’s read much fanfic can attest, is up against some stiff competition). Published in segments in 2006-2007 as Harry Potter fanfic, it focuses not on Harry, Hermione, Ron, or even any of the series’ many supporting characters, but introduces a teenage vampire, who tries to travel back in time so she can defeat Voldemort, but only after what Wikipedia charitably calls “incomprehensible narrative and constant digressions.”

Biggest controversy: No one’s sure who even wrote My Immortal. It was published under the name XXXbloodyrists666XXX, who eventually gave the “real” name Tara Gilesbie. However, in September 2017, established YA author Rose Christo claimed responsibility, suggesting the work is an elaborate satire. She claims she has provided “evidence of her authorship” to Macmillan Publishers, but the imprint found factual errors in a planned memoir by Christo, so we don’t know whether her claim to authorship is a hoax. Wikipedia doesn’t have any information on Gilesbie, and it’s unclear whether she’s come forward at some point or is in fact a real person.

Strangest fact: At one point, Gilesbie claimed someone else hacked into her account and wrote two chapters late in the book. (Regardless, she plowed ahead with the story, never excising or rewriting those chapters). But there’s nothing stranger about My Immortal than the storyline, which is referred to more than once as “exceedingly complicated.” It includes many familiar Potter characters, depicted in unfamiliar ways. For example, Harry is a vampire; Snape and Lupin are lovers; professors Trelawney and Sinistra (the occasionally mentioned astronomy professor) are combined into one person; Hagrid is a teenage student (with no explanation); and Tom Riddle, who would become Voldemort, was in a band with James Potter, Snape, Sirius Black, and Lucius Malfoy while at Hogwarts in the ’80s, even though in the books Riddle is a generation older than the other characters, who attended school in the ’70s (the elder Potter died in 1981).

Draco Malfoy (here a bisexual goth) also kills himself early in the story, but later appears alive and well as Voldemort’s prisoner, with no explanation. Dumbledore later goes goth, but is considered a poseur by the other characters. There’s also an inexplicable cameo by Marty McFly, complete with DeLorean (which, equally inexplicably, can transform into an iPod).

Thing we were happiest to learn: Not everyone hated it. Io9 described the story as a “masterpiece of weirdness,” Buzzfeed called it “oddly touching,” and the story has garnered a following of “so bad it’s good” fans not unlike the cult surrounding The Room. While some believe Christo’s claim that the story is a parody of bad fan-fiction, the prevailing view is that too much care was poured into the story for it to be anything but sincere.

Thing we were unhappiest to learn: Spelling is a subject clearly not taught at the Hogwarts depicted in My Immortal. The main character is 17-year-old vampire Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way, but her first name also appears as Enoby, Evony, and Egogy. Professor McGonagall is often called McGoogle, or McGoggles; Snape is sometimes Snap or Snope; Lupin is sometimes Loopin; Young Tom Riddle sometimes refers to himself as “Satan” but also occasionally as “Stan.” As with most aspects of the story, it’s hard to tell if the cavalier disregard for consistent spelling is legitimate bad writing, or a satirical attack on the perceived quality of other fan fiction.

Best link to elsewhere on Wikipedia: Before there was an internet, The Eye Of Argon held the title of worst fantasy book, and was passed around in analog fan circles as a “so bad it’s good” masterpiece. Written in 1970 by 16-year-old Jim Theis, the novella tells the heroic tale of a barbarian named Grignr, and was good enough to be published by the Ozark SF Society’s journal. Writers Tom Scortia and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro got ahold of a copy and “took turns reading it to each other until we could stand no more.” It spread throughout sci-fi fandom and as group readings “started to become a hideous entertainment.” The text of the story is available online, but leaves out some of the original’s charm, mainly the typesetting (mimeographed, poorly) and illustrations, which “were a match for the text.”
