Fuck it Friday
Tagged by @jamespearce9-1-1 @jeeyuns & @try-set-me-on-fire.
Thanks for the tags! And thank you to everyone for the Wednesday tag .. consider this my wip Wednesday as well 😅
So pretty much all of you guessed correctly in the last snippet of Rival Firefighters 🚒 in regards to what Bobby wanted to talk to Eddie about sooooo … here you go!
“Grab a seat Eddie, I’ll be right with you.”
Eddie sinks into the chair and begins twiddling his thumbs, eyes roaming around the office as he wait for Bobby to finish up. He’s been in the office before on his first day at the 118 which seems like so long ago now. He can’t believe it’s only been two months.
Bobby finishes writing and sets his pen down.
“I know you already have a station and that you’ve been there for a year now, but I saw how easily you fit in here, like you’ve been with us for years.” Bobby says, hands folded on the desk in front of him.
“You’re good people. Good firefighters.” Eddie internally cringes at himself but he doesn’t know what else to say.
An amused grin lifts the corner of Bobby’s mouth, eyes crinkling with laughter that he’s holding back. Eddie’s grateful.
“You’re good people too, Eddie. A good firefighter who encourages those around you to strive to be better. Not only at their jobs, but in all areas.”
Eddie’s not sure he agrees with that. The only person he thinks he’s made an impact on is — “You’re talking about Buck.”
“I’m talking about Buck.”
A fond smile crosses Bobby’s face, one Eddie recognises as he too also wears it whenever he’s talking about Chris. He learnt pretty early on in his friendship with Buck that he and his Captain were close, a kind of pseudo father son relationship. It’s nice to see it goes both ways and it’s not just all on Buck’s side.
“You bring out the best in each other and work together with an efficiency I’ve only seen in partners who have been together for months, years even.” Eddie knows he and Buck work well together but hearing it from Bobby is like getting an official tick of approval. “You’re good for him and this team, and I think we’re good for you. So if it’s something you’d be interested in, I’d like you to be a part of the 118 family. Permanently.” He picks up the form he was filling out when Eddie came in and hands it over to him.
Transfer Request. Everything is filled out, all Eddie needs to do is sign. He feels like he may be in shock. Just a little bit. Staying with the 118 is what he wants and it’s being offered up to him on a silver platter.
“You-you want me to stay?” Eddie asks in disbelief. This can’t be happening. It’s too good to be true.
“Yes, Eddie, I want you to stay. We all do.”

let's build this house (into a home, baby) | 25k
aka the dilf next door neighbours au
The day both Buck's tomatoes and chillies germinate is also the day the universe decides to give him a little nudge. He's sitting out in the backyard with a book on octopuses and a beer, soaking up the last of the day's sun as his attempt at Bobby's six cheese lasagne bakes in the oven, when Christopher pops up over the fence.
"Hey, buddy!" he calls out with a grin. "Did you know that octopuses actually is the correct plural form of octopus not octopi?"
"Cool." Chris smiles, but it fades just as soon as it appears. Buck dog-ears his page and sets his book down.
"Everything okay?" he asks carefully, crossing to the fence.
"Yeah, I'm just hungry." Christopher sighs. "Dad burnt dinner. Again."
Buck glances through his open back door to the dining table with three mismatched chairs, and bites his lip. He's got no excuse today, the evening sun leaving him lethargic but not exhausted, the hour reasonable.
"Hey, I've got an idea." Buck winks at Christopher. "Stay there, okay?"
Buck grabs his beer, book and folding chair, setting them just inside the entrance. He makes his way to the front door, stopping at the hallway mirror to fix his curls into something a little more presentable, and walks the few yards down their adjoined porch to Christopher's door. With a deep breath, he raises his hand and knocks.
The door swings open a few seconds later, and Buck's mouth goes dry at the sight that greets him. Buck was distantly aware that Christopher's dad was training to be a firefighter, distantly aware of the physique that comes with the job, but had been expecting, you know, a dad. Socks and sandals, cargo shorts, a Henley. This is most definitely not the image of Christopher's father he'd conjured in his mind because he's not just a dad, he's a downright DILF. Socked feet in sliders, sweats that leave little to the imagination, and, yes, a Henley—forest green and hugging the meaty curves of his biceps in a way that makes Buck feel a little feral with the urge to just bite. And then there's the guy's face. Fuck, its unholy, illegally attractive. Tan skin stretched smoothly over perfect bone structure, fluffy waves falling over his forehead and looking softer than anything Buck can imagine, lips plush and pink and inviting, a light dusting of stubble across his jaw that Buck desperately wants to feel—not fussed about where exactly he feels it.
As his eyes crawl back up to the man's face, he catches the guy's gaze dragging up his own body. He preens a little, something hot pulsing behind his sternum. When their eyes meet, Buck gets a little breathless. Christ, if the rest of him was divine, his eyes are transcendentally beautiful. Brown as Buck's perfect cup of coffee right in the middle of a non-stop shift and just as warm, brown as earth and with a gravitational pull all of their own, brown as chocolate and just as tempting. Buck thinks he could spend hours getting lost in those molten eyes, thinks he could curl up in those irises quite comfortable for the rest of his life, thinks those eyes could be the last thing he sees and he'd be happy.
"Buck!" Christopher's voice startles them out of their staring match, and Buck watches as the guy looks between them with a frown.
Fuck, maybe Chim was right. Maybe this is weird.
"You're Firefighter Buck?" The guy asks him, raising an eyebrow, and, oh God, his eyes are practically sparkling with amusement.
"Expecting something else?" Buck asks, holding his arms out in what is hopefully not an obvious request for the guy to look at his arms.
"Maybe someone a little shorter and more imaginary," he murmurs with a darting glance at Christopher.
"No, I can assure you I am very real."
"I can see that," he mutters to himself. Buck flushes and ducks his head to hide his pleased smile

Car Safety; Worried Parents
You already know, let's just hop in.
Tumblr media
Harry getting his license was nerve-wracking. Not for him, for Athena. She'd seen many reckless teenagers lose control while driving. So when Harry got his permit, she had the excuse of still being the one driving, or at least being able to make sure he was safe. With the license, he would be alone.
Bobby was nervous too. Mainly because he didn't want to go on a call and see his kid(yes he saw Harry as his own) in the wrecked car. He and Michael were both trying to look for a car that wasn't over the top for Harry's first. May wasn't worried, she trusted Harry. She just made him promise she wouldn't receive a call while she was working about him.
"I know that will be me when Chris gets his license," Eddie said in the loft of the firehouse. Bobby had shared the news that Harry had gotten his license and decided to wait to get a car. Smart choice with how the market was right now.
"I'm worried that Denny will use it as an excuse to leave whenever we're in arguments. Driving while you are angry is the most dangerous." Hen said. Chimney was contemplating how old he would even let Jee-Yun get close to the driver's seat.
"Harry's a smart kid. He's Athena's. He'll be fine on the road when he gets his car."
"You better not give him your Jeep Buck," Bobby warned his surrogate son.
"Don't worry, saving that for Jee-Yun."
"Don't you dare Buckley. Besides why not give it to Chris?" Eddie raised an eyebrow and gave Buck an, 'Oh yeah?', look despite the comment being Chimney's.
"Cause then I'd end up sleeping in the car. Besides Chris already called dibs on the truck."
"Which he'll get when we get another one. So don't even think about it." Raising his hands in defense, he walked behind the counter to help Bobby with lunch. After eating peacefully, the alarm went off and they ran to the truck.
"Alright, we gotta car crash. A Jeep Wrangler and a Lambo." Ravi winced at imaging the ways it could've happened. No matter what, both people in the cars were probably okay. It was a rainy day so either of the cars could have lost control from the wet cement.
When they arrived at the scene, they saw Athena who looked scared. She walked up to the team and debriefed them.
"Teenager in the jeep. Seventeen, turning eighteen tomorrow. The father was in the copilot seat. Lambo was an older man. Had to handcuff him." She explained pointing at the 40-year-old-looking man. Who was cursing the kid across from him. The poor kid looked terrified.
"Already questioned him, I need you guys to get the parent out, he's knocked unconscious." Looking behind her, they were able to see the jeep tipped on its right side. Through the windshield, they could see the father's face. With blood dripping down slightly. Rushing into action they were able to pull him out and make sure he was alive.
When he felt that someone was holding him, he stirred a bit.
"Sir, we're gonna help you out. Can you tell me your name?"
"Mm, Patrick Mendieta. My son, where is he?" He slurred out trying to break free weakly while looking for his kid.
"He's safe sir don't worry."
"You don't understand, he had top surgery a few months ago. Stitches are closed completely but-,"
"In that case, we'll double-check. Right now we need to get you to the hospital to fix up that head of yours." Hen told him while Buck went to go check on the kid.
"Hey there, what's your name?"
"Oliver. I swear it wasn't my fault. We were just driving like normal and he came out of nowhere."
"Yeah right! You were going too fucking slow! Idiot children, don't have no respect-"
"Sir, calm down before I make you," Buck said, effectively making him shut up. Looking back at the kid, he saw the tears streaming down his face. Anger in his eyes.
"He wasn't watching the speed limit. And somehow it's my fault to be careful in the rain."
"I know kid, trust me he'll get reprimanded. Right now I need to make sure you're okay. Your door took the hit it seems." Oliver looked back to his car to realize that Buck was right.
The driver's side was dented, which made the fault immediately go to the other driver. With that he let Buck examine him. Few bruised ribs and a sprained wrist. Nothing serious but would have to go to the doctor to check his back.
After sending the kid away, they dealt with any more issues the rain had caused before heading back to the firehouse. Athena had gotten there early and was sitting at the dinner table eating the food she made for dinner.
"Athena?"
"Couldn't go back immediately. Not after that. Can't stop thinking about Harry." Massaging her shoulders, Bobby made sure she was relaxed before driving back out on patrol.
When the shift ended Eddie and Buck gave Chris an extra long hug. Hen gave Denny another pop quiz on how to handle driving in the rain, and Athena did not let Harry drive any car for a month after that. Not without initial protest. However, it turned to guilt after hearing about the accident from his classmate Oliver.

Well. I was tagged for WIP Wednesday (actually even for Tuesday but timezone) by my precious @pirrusstuff but as long as I'm a little in hell - i share a little only today, so just imagine it's Wednesday still.
There will be disclaimer. I added too much glass but i polish it with superglue.
It's stupid and messy and somehow i like it
It's still the same story btw. I actually even have something for fuck it Friday but I'm not sure I'll be able to share cause, you know, real life is a bitch.
He hits the panel again. Still nothing. He crawled here apparently just to die. Awesome. Brilliant. Fuck. Eddie hisses. He is an idiot, hands down. Way back is blocked, this way - he tries again - also blocked. So… He sits near the wall because standing here is really uncomfortable, the ceiling is too low. Well, at least he wasn't at the basement when the last saltpeter barrels exploded, so he avoided a very fast and messy death, now he would just sit here and wait and wait and… He laughs. Really, how could he be so much stupid. From the very beginning. He has to save a child, he has to save his army squad, he has to be a good husband, good father and good son. He tried and totally failed in every single part of this. Okay. No. He saved this girl. If they try and spend time taking him out also - they would also be stuck. It worth it. Yes. He saved the day. Not that he believes that himself.  Bobby should be furious. He was so strict with his no heroism stuff just to get this. Maybe they won't… His laughter becomes a little hysterical. Even if they're still searching for him - it's in the wrong place. So no chance… Okay, and what? Man the fuck up, Diaz. You made too many mistakes already, stand up and start to fix them for fuck sake. Your son is waiting for you. And you did promise! This tunnel is somewhere a hundred years old, most probably it's one of the prohibited tunnels, it makes sense in the docks. Than this panel blocking the exit also should be quite old. Then fight, Eddie. You can't afford just sitting here! You were trained for this.  He closes his eyes and loudly exhales. Ok, he promised Evan that everything would be fine. Now he promises himself, he gets out and he talks to Buck. No matter what. They could still be friends after, right?  It's funny, when Eric said he's fine being a substitute - Eddie thought it's humiliating. But now he thinks that he would also be fine with this. If in this case they would still have Buck in their lives. And now it's not even about him, right? It's about Chris… and he should stop this. It's about him also. Fucking Buck. Fucking feelings. Fucking old door! He hits the panel again.

I never badmouthed season 6 while it was airing and I always went into episodes thinking “I’m gonna take what’s good and ignore everything else” and I always blogged what I liked and shut up about what I didn’t like (except the sperm donor storyline, I bitched about it all the time, fuck that shit) but now that I have nothing but praise for 911 season 7 I gotta get this off my chest: SEASON 6 WAS BAD!!! IT WAS SO BAD I DECIDED TO STOP WATCHING 911 AFTER THE GODDAMN AWFUL FINALE!!! The only good things were HenRen Begins, “Mom brought two kids into the marriage, you brought one”, Madney Proposal and 6x13!!! And THAT’s IT!!! I was bored out of my mind half of the time and appalled at the nonsense choices the other half!!! I fucking SKIPPED scenes!!! I’ll never forgive them for making me skip scenes IN MY FAVOURITE SHOW!!! Everything was immediately forgettable, I couldn’t tell you a single thing that changed the characters in a meaningful way!!! They fucking MURDERED Buck and did nothing with it!!! There was no Josh or Sue or Linda!!! dispatch was completely forgotten! The Jinx 2.0 episode was the episode where Eddie had the most screentime and nothing happened!!! They had a WHOLE EPISODE where Buck and Eddie were married and raising Chris together and 2 episodes later they had Bobby tell Eddie “you are a lonely single dad and I feel bad for you”!!! I hate that Chim lost the ring!!! I hated Danny’s father!!! I hated the Han and Buckley parents redemption arcs!!!! I hated Tia Pepa sending Eddie on dates!!! I hated that 6x11 had both Thunder by Imagine Dragons and Fix You by Coldplay!!! It was supposed to be most heart-wrenching episode and it felt like I was watching glee! And don’t get me started on whatever the fuck they were doing with Buck. Seriously, what the fuck were they doing with Buck??? They kept setting up life-changing experiences for him and they always went nowhere! He wanted to be enough to become Captain. He wanted to find happiness. And instead they took away his couch and gave him a dumb book about always saying yes, a bunch of cum jokes and old friends who really drove home the fact he’s only good for spare parts. They told us explicitly he was suicidal and they just made him chase and date a death doula about that!!! They put him through the worst things they could think of and he somehow ended up exactly where he started!!! The pacing was weird, they kept picking up storylines and then dropping them and then wrapping them like 3 episodes later in 5 minutes! The calls were absolutely forgettable! There was no big emergency! They kept pairing characters in weird ways and supposedly best friends went months without so much looking at each other! The finale was an high stakes emergency for like ten seconds! And the fact that it was supposed to be the last episode ever makes everything worse because it means that they wanted to end the entire show with everyone on its own, no firefam, just a bunch of republican nuclear families! How do you make the last episode ever of a 6 seasons tv show so boring that during the same week Lone Star murdered a beloved recurring character and my first thought was “well. At least something happened in this show!”.
that’s it. I’m done. I’ll never speak of this season again. Returning to normal posting about how I love everything and everyone.

Laughing at a thought I just had. I'm not here to rehash the Marjan/Eddie cross over interaction. I know everyone had their own predictions but I think at this point we can all agree Buck was part of the reason. Especially because of the staring part. They didn't need to make him look desperate he could have just said hey I know her from Insta. Or have Eddie join for the thrill of it all. Especially now there was no way "cover my eyes the girl is naked Diaz" purely was trying to hit on her in a wild fire. But what always made me laugh, he was looking at her while the real vibe was between TK and Buck. A watered-down version of our Buddie, but yes, it was there.
So then we get it again with Taylor and Lucy. Taylor is confronting Lucy while Buck gives zero fucks because Eddie is next to him. So why I laughed. All I could picture is Taylor standing their blaming Lucy when there is a knock on her door and it's Eddie singing "It's me, Hi, I'm the problem it's me".. and honestly when the 118 has tea time they probably agree!!!
But it's honestly one of the reasons I think they will go Canon. No relationship will work. They both have a buddie shaped wall in their life another partner can't fill.. "It's me, Hi, I'm the problem it's me".
LOL Nonnie, absolutely! I mean, it was always obvious that Eddie’s whole thing in that ep was to cockblock Buck. But just in case we needed further proof of that, three weeks after the crossover aired, we got 406 in which Eddie clearly indicates he’s not ready to date again, and Bobby has to talk him into it. So if not interested in dating, why was he flirting with Marjan? Eddie “that is MY HUSBAND and the father of MY CHILD” Diaz was initially just soooo jealous, there’s literally no other explanation. The whole thing is built not around Eddie seeing how pretty or badass Marjan is and wanting to join her team, it’s literally around Buck noticing her and Eddie’s reaction to that prompting him to stalk over and find a way to be paired with her. But Eddie is so soft for Buck, the sec he's reminded she’s not a threat by looking at pics of what he and Buck built together for their son, he changes to, “You’re not following him back on your social media, you don’t understand, he’s just a tiny pup, please don’t do that to my hubby,” and sincerely, that moment when he chooses Buck’s joy is so underrated. Eddie is THAT whipped.
And yes, I died during that bit in 516 where our worried Buck looks over and literally chooses just a casual conversation with Eddie over stopping whatever disaster may arise from Taylor and Lucy chatting. Buck basically told us his real priorities would always include Eddie (and Chris) over anyone and anything else. They both choose each other and will forever do so, and yep, no other romantic partner can win over that. It’s why I said time and again, they SHOULD go canon. No other endgame would satisfy the viewers, no other ending would be true to their story so far.
Thank you for the lovely ask, have a great day! And as always, here is my ask tag. xoxox

boys broncs and bull dogging
top gun maverick, hangman/bob preview
Of all the places in the world to hide, rural Wyoming seemed like a pretty good place to Bob. Though, if he’d known who else was a closeted bronc rider, maybe it wasn’t his smartest decision.
“Hey, Bobby.”
His head swung to the ground below the chute, eyes blowing wide. What the fuck?
“Hangman,” he says hollowly, just minutes away from climbing on a bronc and his most recent pest has a front row seat. “What are you doing here?”
He shrugs, waving the cage helmet aloft. “Same reason as you.” Swiftly, he clambers up beside Bob and starts fussing with the tack on the horse.
“What are you doing?”
“Making sure they tied it right. Don’t need Phee’s wizzo taking extra time out for injuries,” he mutters. Bob is taken aback. There’s too many things running through his head at once and now he’s seconds away from getting aboard. Hangman turns to him, standing with one foot on the rails, the other dangling in the air. “Hang on, Bobby.”
He scoffs. “Is that why they call you Hangman?” There’s a twinkle in the other cowboy-slash-aviator's eyes. “Oh my god, it is, isn’t it?”
“All-round cowboy two years running in college,” he says slyly. “Third year was my first in flight school in the Navy. Helmet got caught on the rope when I went to bail, kept me there thirty seconds until someone broke it off.”
Bob whistles. “Hell of a ride.”
“Yeah, don’t go having one of those, alright?”
“I ain’t here to break any records,” he assures. The gate hand signals him up, Bob moves to straddle the chute from above, horse eye balling him from below.
“Then why are you here?” Hangman calls.
“Same reason you fly singles,” he says before closing it all out.
The horse is warm beneath him. More than once he’s been told he has a death wish when riding bareback broncs. Men don’t just hand over all control to their pilot unless they’re a little crook in the head. Bob knows his wild and western tendencies are carefully hidden. An unruly youth is better kept in the past. To show up to work every day and have people see what they want, someone unassuming and gentle is the way he likes it. He likes it because he can keep a secret.
Secrets have been clawed out of him for as long as he can remember. People struggle to take him at face value. They look at him as if to say, is this it? Is this all there is to you? They don’t like that the answer is yes.
“He’s a regular at off season rodeos. His full time job is flying at supersonic speeds in the United States Navy, rider 189  is born and bred in this town, ladies and gentleman , Robert Floyd riding Freight Train!”
The crowd always loves the fact he’s born in this town, and the fact he’s in the Navy makes him a crowd favourite, even if they have no idea who he is. The commentator is a friend of his fathers, meaning that information is common knowledge and frequently trotted out.
He nodes, peripheral vision blocked by the cage around his face. The gate rattles open and the horse leaps out from underneath him.
Bang.
Bang.
Bang.
Three bucks, rapid fire. Like flares dropping over a demolished Uranium site.
Bang.
Bang.
Strong broncs, left arm high, eyes to the ceiling.
Not even five seconds have passed and he’ll be in for some money. At least, he might have been. If it weren’t for the next trick Freight Train tries, it is throwing himself into the panels of the arena and then into the floor.
Jake doesn’t know why the first person he tries contacting is Maverick, as if he’s their emergency contact to a bunch of school kids. But for a rare time in his adult life, he feels the need of an adult. An actual adult. A supervisor, not a peer.
He’s on his third call, the first two ringing out when he finally picks up.
“Ice-”
Maverick’s voice is muffled and Jake wonders what the hell he’s just interrupted.
“You seem to not get the message, if someone does not pick up, it’s because they’re–”
“Bob Floyd’s in the hospital. There’s been an accident. Please tell Maverick.”
Wait, shit–
He just cut off the COMPACFLT.
“Jake.” That’s Maverick’s voice. “Jake, you’re on speaker with me and Ice. Talk to me. What happened?”
He stares at the stall of Bob’s horse. Seemed he had a jam packed night. Bulldogging and bronc riding. “We’re in Wyoming. Ran into Bob at a rodeo.” It feels like a betrayal to tell them this unknown side of the wizzo. “There was an accident.”
“What happened?” The Iceman’s voice is slow and deliberate.
Jake forces air in and out of his lungs. “Bob was riding. He drew a rank horse. I knew this horse’s trick. I should have told– It threw itself against the arena railings, then onto the floor. It’s bad, sir. It’s bad.”
Half a day's drive away, two senior officers feel their hearts stop.
Maverick clears his throat. “Where are you?”
“At the rodeo grounds. They air lifted him to the hospital. His dad’s friend went with him.”
“Do you want me to fly out there, tell the others? What do you need me to do, Jake?”
He doesn’t know, only that he thought that Maverick would know. “I don’t know.” Then after a pause. “I’ll call Phoenix. If you could contact the Admiral. We’re due to report in a week. We all are.”
There’s an implication in his words.
What happened is bad enough that Bob won’t see the outside of a hospital for a while.

listen, I'm as buddie obsessed as possible, obvi, they currently ocuppy my mind 24/7 (and have been for the past 2 years since that week I binged the first 3 seasons lol), and I wanna see Eddie broken and wrecked and destroyed, and losing his mind over the possibility of losing Buck (yes, Eddie's my fave, clearly lol)
but I think that in this storyline, it's gonna be Maddie and Bobby that will break me ngl
Maddie bc I'm a sucker for sibling relationships and she's Buck's older sister, and watching that will be so painful - but also because it's Jennifer Love Hewitt and I cry as soon as she's about to cry (there's no other person that can hit me as hard with one facial expression as JLH fr)
and Bobby bc I'm an even bigger sucker for parent-child relationships, especially father-child relationships (bc I have issues™ and it's probably why I'm so fucking excited for this very father-focused season lol) and I just know that Bobby's reactions and how it will affect him will fucking destroy me more than anything
like, all of them will kill me, but I'm scared of Bobby's and Maddie's scenes the most 😂

Sub!Hen makes so much sense! Especially the further you get into the series as she gets more and more buried under all her different obligations its so easy seeing her need someone to help her just like. Take a breath. Relax. It's the same thing as with Buck I think? Where it's like. That boy is bouncing off the walls he absolutely needs a caregiver to look out for him and Bobby is *perfect* for it, especially given their Canon dynamic which is so father/son like.
I'm working on a dynamic AU with little!Buck right now where he's been hiding it forever but it picks up during the lawsuit Era when he gets caught out. It's just such a good concept and there no shortage of places to whump Buck tbh. I was also thinking caregiver Bobby and you've given me so much to think about !
Yes absolutely!! That's actually so real. I wonder also what the affair from s1 would look like with Eva as her former dom (I don't think it excuses it at all, but I think considering the power imbalance, it would be interesting!)
Yes on Buck. Canon, the boy needs someone to rein him in. I'm drawn to these types of characters 😂
That's such a good idea!! I would be so interested to read what that knowledge does mid lawsuit. I'm generally team buck fucked up (though I really understand some what he was feeling and also he def needed to see a professional after the explosion and the tsunami) when it comes to the lawsuit, but Buck as a little coming out???? I'm so into it
I've started at the beginning of season 1, so I have set it up where both Buck and Bobby see the arrangement as temporary. Buck because he's sure Bobby is going to realize how much of a burden he is and Bobby because while he's thinking he can give the kid a soft place to land and some time to find a more permanent cg, he's still s1 Bobby who plans to finish his list and die to join his family. So angst central 😂

the arc 6b is stablishing
okay so
I have to say, after so many years, I should not be surprised by fandom’s obvious lack of comprehension when it comes to arcs and storylines
but here we are and I’m once again rolling my eyes at some takes in the fandom
this time around? the overwhelming anger towards the show “insisting on redeeming bad parents”.
First of all, most of the “bad parents” we are talking about here aren’t villains. Yes, they are extremely flawed human beings who have fucked up and hurt their children due to their shortcomings... nearly every single parent of the 118 firefam is. They aren’t evil or actively going out of their way to hurt them, though. Chim’s dad, who might be the most openly harmful imo, is neglectful and absent. And the show hasn’t really made any move to humanize him up until now. So let’s see wtf is going on outside of Howard’s point.
REGARDLESS THOUGH, that’s not even my point.
MY POINT IS ARCS AND STORYTELLING.
Now, hear me out. 6x10 is three things at once:
-The continuation of the show’s overall story
-The continuation of season’s 6 overarching storylines
-The beginning of season 6b’s arcs
So my point here is... we are at the BEGINNING of those arcs. The show is telling us where these characters need to go.
So let’s look at the evidence we do have:
-The Buckley parents are being oddly nice. Yes. Oddly so. And you can roll your eyes and call bad storytelling... except, the show is spotlighting how weird it is. Buck, Chim and Maddie all comment on it. So whatever that weirdness is coming from, they are telegraphing it to us. Eventually, we’ll find out.
-Buck and Maddie believe that their lives would’ve been happier if Daniel had lived. They just fed this to us right openly... BEFORE WE SEE BUCK’S FEVER COMA DREAM WHERE DANIEL LIVED AND EVERYTHING ISN’T ALRIGHT. As a matter of fact, it looks like Buck is actively trying to get back to this life, his real life, with his found family.
So? What can we learn in this second example, that we already saw on the first? The characters have made a statement (either by actions, the Buckleys, or with words, Buck and Maddie). The show will prove them wrong. They will learn and grow from it.
-So, thirdly, while I do think they are going to try to to ‘cut some slack’ for Chim’s dad or show us his point of view, I think the whole point of him being here, the whole thing, it’s just so we can get this wonderfully wrong line: A man cannot raise a child fathered by another man.
Now, I don’t think I need to explain how this is wrong... but I want to use it as an example of how this entire episode was filled with wrong/false statements. This line, it jumps at us, because we KNOW that it goes against the thesis of this show. Here’s some examples:
a) Bobby has been clearly stablished as Buck’s father figure. In show. In interviews. And specifically in this episode, which was all about parents and children, mostly fathers and sons.
b) Buck is practically co-parenting another man’s child. Whether they acknowledge it being romantic or not, the show does acknowledge Buck’s part in raising Christopher. Other characters do too. The actors and writers even. It’s an undeniable fact.
c) Howard himself was raised by another couple. And it wasn’t just shown to us, it was made rather explicit when he invited them to be part of Jee’s life in the role of grandparents.
d) Hen and Karen are raising a child who doesn’t biologically belong to either of them but the show has consistently insisted on their family unit and, furthermore, is currently exploring those implications.
e) The show literally just made the point to have May call Bobby her dad last season during Mayday. And it was a big, important, and insisted upon moment.
So? We know this statement is wrong. We know it’s being made specifically so the storyline in 6b can state, once again, how and why it is wrong. And I suspect we’ll see a lot of that with Chris and Buck next episode already.
Anyway, I wish fandom spent less time freaking out about “bad” stuff in the show and used more of that energy to analyze where those plot points mean to take us.

When we fell in love
Buddie fic. Heres the ao3 link
When Buck kisses Eddie for the first time he has an audience.
It’s after a particularly tough 5-alarm fire where Eddie's radio got mangled and no one could locate him for ten excruciatingly long minutes. For ten minutes Bucks heart was missing. It was like the well all over again.
Buck ripped off his mask the second Eddie was located and kissed Eddie fiercely. It started angry, furious. In a “Why did you do that way?” and then it got calmer, safer in an “I’m here now, I’m back” way. He was livid at Eddie for being missing but kissing him just made Buck realize he was glad Eddie was safe.
On the ride back Bobby makes him ride in the ambulance. Buck was a bit confused until he got back to the station and dragged Eddie to a supply closet instead of kissing him Eddie stated
“Why the hell did Bobby just give me a dad talk?”
Buck laughed “I don’t know babe. I do see him as more of a dad than the one I was born to”
“Phillip is a piece of work” Eddie agreed “Also I like you calling me babe”
Buck smiled “That he is, and also I like your mouth on mine”
That’s all the conversation they had before they went back to making out (at least until a thoroughly embarrassed Ravi found them)
When they stepped out of the closet Eddie’s neck was covered in hickeys Buck was very proud of.
When Buck and Eddie told Chris they were dating Chris simply rolled his eyes and said he’s suspected so for years. Also, he saw them kissing like wild animals on the news. Eddie had looked at the ground sheepishly and said to stop watching the news. To which Chris replied it helps him know his dad is safe. Which started a back-and-forth that made Buck slowly back away from the father-son duo before Eddie grabbed his arm and proclaimed he was part of this too.
When Buck tells Eddie he loves him for the first time it’s during a heated game of Monopoly. Eddie had just won and Buck was not there for it.
“ Babe I love you and all but you're a fucking cheating asshole and there is no way you actually won that”
Eddie and the rest of the room looked at Buck shocked.
“You, you love me?” Eddie managed out
Buck rolled his eyes “Of course I do you idiot”
A statement that led to them making out in the middle of game night and Chim pelting them with popcorn.
When Buck took Eddie on their first date it was to a crappy Mexican food truck that Buck hated but Eddie loved.
After the food truck, Eddie had taken Buck back to his house, and after Chris was dropped off they had a little family movie night (Even though it was Wednesday).
When Buck moved in with the Diaz boys Buck didn’t even tell Eddie He had slowly started moving stuff over there and eventually, his lease went up for renewal and instead of renewing it Buck just moved the rest of his stuff over. It was a random Tuesday and he just went over and grabbed his stuff and texted Eddie afterward that they didn’t have to worry about the loft anymore. Which cause Eddie to call him up and ask what the fuck was going on and ask for an explanation.
When Buck proposes to Eddie it’s an accident. Buck had just been wheeled into the ER and they said only family can follow and Buck loopy from blood loss replied to the question of if Eddie was family with  “Yes, if he agrees to marry me”. (Buck later clarified he did very much want to marry Eddie)
When Buck married Eddie it was after work the same day and they had passed a courthouse and they decided to just go and get married not wanting to waste a single second not married.
When Buck adopted Christopher it solidified that they were a family and finally, the Diaz men were complete.

Hello, I’m back to talk about the weewoo show! So, Chris is going to go see Buck next episode. I will blow up next episode.
The thing that I’m truly hoping for is that Chris gets angry. He yells at an unconscious Buck because he’s terrified of losing his Buck. Chris will yell until he no longer can and then he’ll look at Eddie, terrified, then ask if Buck is ever gonna wake up.
Eddie is going to be somewhat shut down. He’s not gonna know how to answer his son’s question, so he’ll look over to Bobby for help, but Bobby won’t know how to answer either. Eddie is gonna be half functioning at work, not knowing what to do or where to go without his other half. Him and Buck are two peas in a pod, so I wanna see Eddie struggling to get shit done or for him to just be kinda shut down next episode.
I want Bobby to be going through it. I want him to sit there and think about how stupid he was, because in his mind, he’s going to think about how he never should’ve sent Buck up there. He never should’ve even thought about the ladder. I want Athena to be there, helping him understand that he didn’t know this was gonna happen (which is when the hug comes in to play). I wanna see Bobby breaking down crying as he sits next to his son’s bed and watching him breathing off of a ventilator, having to leave the room because that’s his boy.
I wanna see Chimney feeling shaken. I wanna see him sitting there and thinking “holy shit, that could’ve been me.” I wanna see him talking (or yelling) to his dad about how shitty of a father he was, but he’s realized that he has to forgive him. Not just for Jee, but because he doesn’t know if he’ll ever get the chance to do so.
I wanna see the Buckley parents ACTUALLY being concerned. I wanna see them sitting there, feeling SO DAMN guilty for treating Buck like shit for the first (over) half of his life, now he’s just laying there in a hospital bed, in a coma, and breathing from a tube. I wanna see them understand that they TRULY need to be there for BOTH of their kids now, not just Maddie. Not like they’ve done in the past.
I wanna see all this shit in the next episode. Will that happen? Probably not. Do I want it to? FUCK YES. However, if it doesn’t, I think it’ll definitely build up to it or something. I hope it does.

WIP Wednesday
And actually I'm close to the happy ending already, cause I've done enough hurt in this
The main issue it's like twenty pieces in my phone's notes and i need to combine it. Cause now it's out of order!
Eddie said he is more than enough for Chris but apparently he was lying, today it was his day of lies. Buck feels the urge to break something. Anything. Phone. Head. Anything would work! This cup for example. Just to concentrate his anger on it to be ready to talk with Chris again. And fix it. He is the fixer! It was pleasant to be fair, seeing the cup shutters on the floor. And helped a little. But now he needs to clean it, cause it could be sharp and totally unsafe. And get a new cup. Cause he tried to drink coffee straight from the coffee pot once, wasn't his best idea. He opens the drawer and freezes again - on the inside of the drawer door is full exposition of pictures of him, Chris and Eddie. And this stupid heart drawing he made a year ago or so. He didn't even know this drawing still exists. He should ask Eddie about it when he has a chance. If he has it... He just stands there when his phone is ringing again. And this time it's Bobby. And hell he needs all his will to answer this call 'Bobby?' 'Buck .. can you come here?' Buck just slid to the floor, squeezing his phone so hard it could break 'Buck? Buck!' It's hard to find a voice but he manages it 'Wh-Why? Is Eddie dead? Is he?!' He hears crutches noise on the floor and sees Chris in the doorway with horrified face 'No. No, he's not, it's just... It's not a phone call Buck' 'I mean... Yes. Yes, i can, just.. i...' 'Don't drive, I'm begging you' 'Yes but ... Chris?' Bobby keeps quiet for a moment 'We figure it out here. Just come' Buck looks on the dark screen. 'We need to... Chris. He's alive, i just can't leave you here' 'What's with 'social workers'? Apparently you can't leave me just because you have to have me? I can call Carla, she also has to have me, you know. Part of her job.' 'Chris... That's... That's not the case.' 'All my family is in El Paso, Buck. And my father is dying. And that's why you stuck with me. I'm sorry I've caused you so much trouble!' Okay, he is on the edge of tantrum. And they need to go now - surprisingly Buck managed to call an uber 'It's not that, you can't possibly cause any troubles! Chris. And your father is not dying!' He totally is. Why else could Bobby asked to be there? 'Stop lying!!!' And there it is. Hell he is so much like his father. Well, Eddie can keep it inside for much longer but endgame is quite the same. But that's not Eddie. That's Chris. On the first place he is still a child even if he doesn't think so. Buck comes closer and holds him. 'I'm here. Everything is gonna be fine. We manage this. Chris. Please.' Chris answers something inaudible and then 'You say all my family is in El Paso!' He definitely did. Cause as he knows that is the case. 'But you're here and...' He choked on crying. 'I'm here. I'll always be here for you. Chris, what's wrong? 'I thought you are my family!' Oh, that's why he is so upset. 'I... It's not for me to decide...' 'You're a jerk Buck' 'Please don't say that!' Even if he is. Even if... Fuck he wants this. He wants a family. And to be more specific he wants this family. He wants Chris to be his. Hell he wants Eddie to be his so much. Real thing, not that erzatz-family story when they just act like one and then go to the dates with somebody else. Did they pretend somewhy? Cause it looks like it wasn't pretending for Chris. Do you want to be in love Buck or you just want to be loved? Well, Maddie, there's a catch. The person i want to be in love with is way out of my league. So I'll take the second option just because i don't want to end up alone. And i still end up alone. But Chris has nothing to do with that. Even if Eddie is... How did he say. Not a backup plan but the only plan? Is it though? Who cares. Chris needs him now. Buck needs Chris.

Listen I haven’t watched 9-1-1 in like a year but. AU - you can hear what your soulmate is thinking but only if it’s absentminded/not conscious
Athena & Micheal used to be soulmates but started hearing other ppls voices like overlapping radio stations, Athena usually hears recipes from Bobby and the first time she heard “and now for the secret ingredient: love. Also know as an extra teaspoon of cocoa” she laughs for the first time since her and Micheal had the divorce conversation- Bobby usually hears police codes or Athena turning cases over in the back of her mind, especially the ones she has personal history with, used to hear his wife but yk how that ended up and he hadn’t heard anything but silence until he started opening up to people bc the universe is a bitch who knows what’s best for you even if you don’t
Listen. Eddie used to hear Shannon’s to-do lists for every day and yes it did make him feel both connected to Chris and like a bad father why do you ask? During/after the tenseness and then her leaving for her mom and staying gone he started hearing fun or “fun” facts like that mini golf used to be called Tom Thumb golf or that earwax is actually a type of sweat (??) Buck hears Eddie’s worries bc I love that man but he do be an absent minded worrier, some of it not bad like wondering if Chris is going to bring up mummification practices at dinner AGAIN and he’ll have to pretend like he doesn’t turn green bc he wants to encourage his kid’s interests but some of it heavy like the Texas period where he had three jobs and was worried about bills and not being there for his kid even if he was more present than he has been since he left for the army
Maddie hears hypothetical questions and pop culture references. She’s convinced Doug is her soulmate bc maybe he takes her to the movies their first date and mentions all these Hollywood classics that she’d never seen? And even when it turns out he doesn’t want to experience them WITH her he just likes to talk about something she’ll listen to and won’t have any opinions about she kind of smooths it over, confirmation bias yk. But he never once asks her about her plans for the future and there’s. That. And when shit happens she thinks about the latest question her soulmate would’ve asked her maybe as a distraction or something for the future? By the time she meets Chim she’s made plans for almost anything including time travel, zombie apocalypse, and suddenly becoming allergic to bubble gum. Chim thinks about a lot of different things ok. He swears he and his soulmate kept each other motivated bc Maddie would be thinking encouraging things while studying for a test or quiz in Anatomy (or another nursing class what am I a paramedic?) and realize they were both if not studying the exact same thing having a theoretical study session. It would move on to Maddie maybe thinking about things not to do? Even writing this is ugh but. Trying not to make Doug mad in a thousand and one little ways until it stops and he’s so scared bc what happened? But when he hears her running through her checklist/procedure for getting out of there, getting a little more foolproof every time, it’s the biggest fucking relief because he couldn’t do shit when he didn’t even know who she was. When he has his first random run of the mill thought since what was presumably Maddie’s residency he cries
And Karen and Hen!! Karen definitely gets a lot of statistics at first I think, from Hen’s job as an insurance agent and then when she starts studies her ass off to be a paramedic yk that’s the only thing for a while. And well. Don’t know if the infidelity still happens in this universe but can you imagine how chrushing it would be to have one of the thoughts she hears after she and Hen are married be don’t tell Karen or smthg and then have that be the way she finds out abt Eva and Hen meeting up? The angst. Hen hears calculations and know her soulmate is going to be brilliant even before she starts getting into the serious stuff bc sometimes they’ll skip like a record and she’ll go from one side of the equation to the other with no thought in between (which does fuck with Hen sometimes maybe? Like why is she only getting incomplete thoughts? Are they not fully soulmates/is something changing (bc YES in this universe soulmates can change bc you are an ever evolving person and so is everyone else, you’re not going to be perfect for the same person your whole life) and maybe that’s part of the events that lead to Eva happening? And like obviously it’s not Karen’s fault it’s just a sign that humans are emotionally lead and messy etc.) and when she meets literal rocket scientist Karen everything just kind of… clicks. And if they do have the Eva mess to go through I think they should both still have to work for each other? Like yes you’re soulmates but that doesn’t mean you just accept that and never worry about your relationship again, you have to adapt evolve grow with hardships and joy. (I like to think that Karen has at least one “well of course it’s not rocket science or else I’d be able to DO it” thought every time someone says that phrase and it always makes Hen warm and fuzzy because that was part of how they found each other)
Anyway many thoughts for a fic I will probably never write
