Castiel should have known something was up when Sam phoned him, the request incredibly polite when asking Castiel to return to the bunker. Typically, the Winchesters were much more brusque, though it was usually Dean making the call. Because, less than a minute after entering the bunker, he was met with a smiling Rowena, a frowning Dean, and a fidgeting Sam. “Hello, Castiel,” Rowena said, voice low and eyes watching his every move down the stairs, “so kind of you to come.” “Hello,” Castiel said. “Sam, Dean. Why is she here?” Dean opened his mouth but, before he could speak Sam stepped forward and said, “We have a case. Sort of. Rowena thought we could use your help.” “A case.” Castiel narrowed his eyes. “Sort of.” The group stood silently. Sam kept wringing his hands, periodically wiping them on his jeans. Dean appeared to have a bad case of indigestion, his mouth clamped shut. Rowena, however, remained her usual composed self. Rowena approached Castiel. “Well, now that we’re all here, we should get to business.” She reached into her skirt pocket and produced a small black box. A simple gold band gleamed from the pillow inside when she opened it. “Castiel, would you please do me the honour of being my unlawfully, falsely wedded husband?” All three men spoke in unison. “What?” Castiel asked in confusion. “What!” Sam shouted in shock. “What,” Dean stated in displeasure. Rowena smiled.

The spirit he finds is a polite, broad shouldered, blue eyed man in a trench coat who, instead of throwing Dean through the window in a vengeful rage, asks Dean for help. Dean agrees to assist Castiel, the Friendly Ghost, with moving on to the next life. Cas isn't like any ghost Dean had ever met. The usual rules don't apply to him. He's kind to Dean. He loves books. I get people want their favorite character being in the final, but I actually thought it was a favor to the character that Cass got killed in 15x18. If Cass were in the final, he might just stood there. It’s a shame Berens didn’t write better script. He was never my favorite writer, but his Rowena and Sam’s scene in 15x03 was pretty good. I love Rowena’s “I believe in magic …” lines. I wonder why 15x18 was like that. Although I’m indifferent with Cass, I wish he had better ending for the story.

You have to remember that Misha was an aspiring politician. The politicians you see on screen only shows 10% of their charisma, the screen almost acts like a protective barrier. To meet skilled politicians in real life is almost akin to witchcraft, you're under their spell.

I sometimes think this is why hellers like Jaistel goes to so many cons despite numerous reports by fans of Jai looking miserable and lonely. A real life encounter with Misha rejunevates that spell enough for Jai to continue their agenda of grifting and fleecing people until the next con.

So anyways, like Robert Englund whom Misha convinced to write "Man Who Would be King" in attempt to salvage Cas's character ahead of the finale "Man Who Knew Too Much" that would irreparably damage Cas's character that the general audience would turn on, Misha convinced Berans to help salvage Cas's ending and provide enough ambiguity to keep his paying minions on the hook. Look how long Xena's lesbian fans stuck around due to Xena and Gabrielle's ambidous friendship. The difference was there were enough build up to Xena and Gabrielle to eventually have a canon romantic relationship. There was no same build up to Cas's confession to be interpreted as non-platonic, but that was actually okay with Misha. Just like his fake bisexual confession at the New Jersey con, he expect it to just stay in the fandom and never get picked up by mainstream media.

Misha would know most of the digital low-tier media like Buzzfeed, Mary Sue, and Daily Got will disappear. Even the online TV Guide (not to me mistaken for the physical TV Guide that has different owners) have scrubbed many of their articles to make room in their server. It's why Misha will only say SPN is about Sam and Dean in mainstream media like Larry King and in WB's SPN retrospective shows.

Lastly, we give that ~confession scene way too much credit and attention in an otherwise decent episode. Castiel was never a main character so his farewell speech doesn’t have the same kind of impact. Sure a lot of superfans find his overly praising Dean was be OOC or non-canon compliant, but that speech wasn’t for them, it was for general audience and casual fans to remind them that Dean is still a hero because they only seen Sam acting heroically trying to protect people from the Snap. Dean going after Billie looked more like revenge and it was at the cost of Cas’s life. So this lesson to Dean is that it isn’t all about him. That’s right, a speech that seems to be all about Dean is actually saying it’s not all about him.

I’ve had a couple of people request this, so here ya go: my masterlist for the SPN Deserved Better 31 Days Creative Challenge hosted by the wonderful @foundfamily4eva , in which I basically tried to fix canon for as many of the characters as I could, not just Team Free Will 2.0 + Eileen (although those five all definitely got the endings they deserved, too!).

I know one romantic trope doesn't make a pairing, but you have to admit that the "fake married" trope is a pretty big romantic trope that Sam and Rowena got to play up in an episode. Even better, it's one that Dean and Cas HAVEN'T had, so it sets it apart nicely as its own relationship and not just DeanCas support.

You mean the altar spell? Yeah I get the visuals but it kinda needs someone to say they like each other too at some point to be an obviously romantic trope and not just pretty framing ;) but yes it can definitely be seen as visual romantic framing in itself.

I also just wanna make it clear here that I in no way am saying people shouldn’t ship Samwitch, like, I totally get it, it’s just not to me an obvious written youre supposed to want them together they’ll be together in the end ship, but I totally get the organic common interest etc.

I’m also very invested in the fact that to me given there is no real intent for it to be romantic, that we be able to see a man and woman have a connection based on shared traumas and experiences which doesn’t have to be romantic.

I’m also very invested in Rowena not being a winky wink sex pot easy lass for every friggin guy on the show.

Im very invested in them as platonically understanding each other and being fond of each other but not romantic unless I’m explicitly told otherwise because Sam Deserves Friends and Rowena Deserves Not To Be A Boner Garage, she is her own strong independent character and unless I’m blatantly told to ship her with someone I like her remaining as so.

Hope that explains it! I’m not against it I’m just way more invested in them as individuals and remaining individuals with their own deep and meaningful reasons for being kinda fond but nothing more of each other (esp Rowena but also Sam has been explicitly endgame-linked to Eileen so).

The Sam lover in me is jumping up and down over Sam’s more central narrative in 14x15!! And the clearly platonic Sastiel was REALLY fulfilling!! I mean, Sam was the one in trouble; Cas, Dean and Jack were more or less doing their own thing in terms of screen time but still adjacent to Sam’s victimization. Sam then admits he hates the bunker, currently associated to his self-hating grief over Michael!Rowena killing the AU hunters (also, his grief re: Cas was certainly different from this — and different from Dean’s grief re: Cas. You can sort of see the varying “shut-down” of his emotions via burying himself in hunts. It’s fresh. It’s terrible. He’s fixating on it. He isn’t FineTM).

For the first time, Sam felt a stable sense of leadership and purpose besides caring for Jack. Now that he’s lost it, we’re observing his slow process of self-introspection. To him, how valuable was his position as Leader — something he always felt he was meant for? Does another role lie beyond this? Sam needs space, and considering the Sam/Rowena = Dean/Cas mirroring we’ve observed recently, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sam ends up disclosing this gaping loss to Rowena, his subtextual spouse (or Cas his brother, or both). After all, she led a Mega Coven (although she was still exercising her authority maliciously). Maybe this can pave the way for further insights re: Rowena’s true (humanized) feelings of accountability; while Cas similarly expressed his failures of leadership re: Heaven...losing his old friends and old allies who chose him over the hierarchy when he was Garrison Commander.

Not to mention that Justin Smith!Sam and his fake wife narratively portrayed as an illusion (Sam generally being associated to M/F couples *Sam & Eve’s Records*) TOTALLY alludes to the fact that Sam is no longer seeking a normal life with a normal wife and normal dog in a normal house (we additionally saw an M/F couple and dog walk by Cas and Sam; don’t get me wrong, I think he still wants a dog. I’m just stressing the Normal concept). Like his brother Dean, the fantastical idyllic idea of normality doesn’t make him happy.

Sam is a Hunter, and he now seeks “something”, with “someone who understands the life.”

Yockey previously coded that someone as Rowena in 14x14. It’s deliberate folks, and I can’t wait to see how their relationship expands...

The Empty Spaces In Between The Lines Series (Rated M)

My very first fic, which started as “what if endverse Cas met pre-series Dean? Has anyone written that?” A few days later I was like, “wait. I can write that.” I leaned pretty heavily into my “souls are colours” headcanon in this one.

Sequel to Empty Spaces. Two years later. Set during season two. Cas is in a better place-- relatively. Dean works though his issues, specifically his internalized biphobia.

Written to bridge (ha ha, see what I did there?) the gap between In Between and The Lines. A take on 3x08 with Cas in it.

A oneshot I wrote because I was very stuck on The Angel. I started thinking about the many different Castiels we’ve seen through the series and I started to wonder what they would think of each other. Thus, this fic.

Written for the dchappilyeverafterfest. Dean plants flowers in the meadow he spread Cas’s ashes years ago. Cas returns from the Empty through a portal in said meadow. By gardening, Dean and Cas learn how to navigate their relationship in a post-Chuck world.
