15 DAY BL CHALLENGE - DAY 8
The Trope You Hate Except When It's This Series
Tumblr media
I don't tend to like "Soulmates". For example, I wasn't a big fan of the trope as seen in La Pluie and Color Rush. Both definitely are better in that they deal with discussions around the darker side of the trope (ie. the color blind kidnapping their soul mates in Color Rush). But, at the end of the day, the main characters always overcome that and the fated love interests always still get together.
Tumblr media
It's not because Soulmates is a bad trope, I think the idea of it just creeps me out. Like there is a person out there FOR YOU, and you are FOR THEM and neither of you could possibly connect with anyone else on the same level even if you had completely different politics/backgrounds/cultures/languages/etc. I actually have some plot bunnies written for a subversion of the trope where like: what if in a dystopian world the government forces soul mates together and there are like programs finding and forcing people together. But enough about my writing I'll get to the point. And the point is...
Tumblr media
THE SIGN MADE ME ENJOY IT SO MUCH
I think it's mainly because, in The Sign, they are Karmic Soulmates, and it's not like they live in a universe where everyone has a soulmate. It just so happens that they have this intense connection from their past lives.
I think they also do a great job showing like: but that's not the ONLY reason these two like each other.
Tumblr media
That moment Phaya discharges himself from the hospital after he realizes he and Tharn are karmic soulmates is *chef's kiss*.
Tumblr media
Like before that: yes, they were in love. But after that it was like: NOT ONLY are they in love they KNOW they are KARMICALLY BOUND TO ONE ANOTHER. I loved that, and it didn't make me feel like they were forced together the whole time. It was definitely my favourite thing and made me rethink my general dislike of the Soulmates trope.

hate is a strong word by skeilig
Fic can be read HERE.
Post-Canon. Completed. Rated: G. Word Count: 3045
Pairings: Kageyama Ritsu & Reigen Arataka, Kageyama 'Mob' Shigeo & Reigen Arataka
Trigger Warnings: None
"Alone in the office with Mob again, Reigen leans back in his chair and chuckles. “Wow, your brother hates me.”
Mob looks up, wide-eyed. “You think Ritsu hates you?”
“Well,” Reigen says, starting to sweat a little. He thought it was obvious. He thought Mob was choosing to ignore it, to stay uninvolved, which was the wise thing to do. He had never before considered that Mob simply didn’t know."

where did the whole Amy hates Shorty thing come form?
I definitely exaggerated it for the funnies, but I do think Amy and Shorty are the most likely to bicker and not in a funny rival way
Tumblr media
Like here in issue 97 Amy is fucking pissed at shorty (kinda justified really), qnd it's not in a fun jab way, it's a genuine anger "what the fuck is wrong with you"way
They just seem like really different kids

Gotta say absolutely love your writing! and if I could ask why do you hate Danse?? If you already explained or rather not my bad 😖
It's fine haha, Danse isn't a real person I don't think he'll mind me talking shit <3
The personal bias comes from having an ex-boyfriend with his exact vibes. Super into the military and patriotism to the point it bordered on unhealthy. So Danse lost automatic points for that.
But I’ve always felt for the synths and ghouls. The Brotherhood’s intolerance for anyone they deem inhuman turned me off from their faction. I’ve never been impressed by their gadgets. I think seeking out technology just to destroy it is extreme. And I much rather be a spy than a soldier, which is why I loved the Railroad.
Do I like Danse’s arc of realizing he’s a synth and being forced to recognize his own prejudices? Yes! Do I still find his Ad Victorium mantra, law abiding morality and overall personality annoying? Also yes.
However, I think I write him fairly unbiased. Just because his character isn’t remotely my fave doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy him :) People have tons of headcanons I don’t agree with. We’re allowed to have different opinions and I’d never try to police how someone interprets a character. :)

hate is a strong word. despise is better.
i am good at a lot of things
i am able to do a lot of things
and Thank God I can
but truthfully
i hate
no,
i despise
being able to do things
that i do not care for.
why is it that the thing i love
is so far from me
why am i joined by soul to things I do not love
did I once wish in the past to be good at such things
did i once love such things, too?
but love is forever
even if i do not remember
but love means you remember
and love is not love if you do not wish for it
but hate
is hate
despite not wishing for it
take it away
i wish to be good at love
and love being good at things
but i hate
no, i despise it
i wish i wish i wish wish
that i was good at things i love
because loving is when you make something beautiful
despite not being good at it
and hate
despise
is for things i make with such abhorring
that i cannot admire being good at it
i despise love
i hate love
i love love
hate is a strong word
but despise is better
even if love is stronger.

Oh man. A tomb? That’s horrifying. Like I knew it would be gross and creepy cause it’s the empire and the Sith (just look at what they did to Luminara in Rebels) but by goodness, that’s just… that’s just… horrifying.
And the opposite of what generally the Jedi do. They burn their dead. Leaving them encased like that, suspended and preserved, it’s gotta be a pretty intentional choice in direct opposition of what is usually done to Jedi dead.

The fact that it didn't even end with the Quincy genocide or the horrific experiments that Mayuri did on the remaining Quincy but it also continued in the present with Mayuri further experimenting on the sternritter he took after the war into his disgusting corpse unit AND wanted to do the same with the fullbringers fills me up with unfanthomable rage. Even under Kyoraku's leadership, it was overlooked. Nothing changed. The shinigami will never change their ways. They are rotten to their core. Hollows, Quincy, even the Humans they say they "protect" or their own kind, they don't care

Hate a food if you must. Despise it even. Never eat it. Take no guff from those who try to dissuade you. Whatever cliches they present to you tell them where to go. You're an adult, you have agency, eat what you want. Be fatigued at people's insistence. Be picky. Laugh at and pity those who think there is some moral component to not eating a thing.
"Kids are starving in _____."
"Well then, send it to _____."
Tell me you don't eat it. Tell me you can't stand it. Tell me you won't eat it. Say "ew" loudly in a drawn out way. Make gagging/vomitting noises. Tell me you dislike it. Tell me it's gross. Tell me you have an aversion. Tell me it's disgusting. Even tell me you don't know how I can stand to eat it. Tell me "no thank you" in an overly sarcastic way.
Please please don't tell me you hate it. (Write that you hate it, I guess. I'll try to read that as dislike).
Know this: IRL when people have told me that they hate a food I enjoy (or even love) it has been abundantly clear that they don't merely dislike it. They don't have an aversion. They don't think it's gross. They HATE hate it. It's not just that they don't want to eat it but that the offending food should be stricken from existence. No one on earth should be able to consume the food, EVER. I, in particular, am a vile & abhorrent abomination for even knowing the food exists, let alone eating it and enjoying it. I should join them in their vitriolic POR or suffer the consequences.
Hate is a strong word. To me it means you think the object of your hate should be eradicated from the earth. If I don't join you in this view clearly there is something wrong with me and I am the one with the moral failing.
